(00:26):
man himself, the one and only Jeff Schwartz, Good morning,
Welcome in. It is one day closer to football. We
have football every weekend now between now and the middle
of February, and it's a great time of the year
to be talking about sports, thinking about sports, and waging
on sports. Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
Hall of Fame Game coming up here in a couple

(00:47):
of days. I don't know that I've ever been more
excited for a Hall of Fame game. Uh, and I've
probably said that every single year the Hall of Fame
Game approaches. But you know, listen, like everyone you know
points out at all. You know, the preseason was shut down. Look,
the Hall of Fame game got shut down because the
turf was melting. One year. I remember being on the
year while it was happening, going Wait, so we're just

(01:08):
not gonna play this game. It's just when it's just
not happening. Yeah, I was a bummer man. As much
as we tell ourselves we're not gonna watch you know,
the threes and fours play in the Hall of Fame game,
I'll be up till till midnight. E started watching the game. Absolutely,
let's already pencil into the calendar. My wife's gonna be
super piste when I'm when I'm like, hey, I'm gonna

(01:28):
go in the other room and watch football. She doesn't
even know it's here yet. I've told her it just
doesn't care. That's the best part. Just doesn't even know
football's arrived yet. But yeah, it's gonna be uh a
lot of fun to watch a real football on Thursday. Yeah,
it's My wife was telling me, uh, you know, we're
we gonna start going to church more on Sundays, and
I just said, that's funny, A good one. That's funny.

(01:53):
I sent my daughter up for a dance class on
Saturdays and it's from twelve fifteen to like one fifteen.
I thought to myself, well, uh, you'll be doing that
drop off especially so my so my thing is like
Saturdays for me is family day because most of most

(02:15):
often Paths twelve games aren't on until later at night,
and I can you know, I don't really cover college
football nationally very often, Like I like, I don't have
to go to working Monday typically and talk about college
football outside the Path twelve conference, right, That's not what
I have to but I can catch up on it
pretty you know, pretty much till then. But you know,
the NFL I cover full time. So Sundays is my

(02:35):
NFL day, So you know, I trade off Saturday's family time. However,
when Oregon plays at noon against Ohio State, that's that's
blocked off. I will have to hire nanny for the
three hours or four hours. I'll do whatever I can.
I'm not leaving the television. And also, to you know,
my family never gets to watch organ play because they

(02:56):
play so late at night and my kids go to bed.
So this is an opportunity for my son and to
watch the game with me. Um, and I'm super pumped.
I'm hoping to maybe get to Columbus um if I
can depend on work, but I I nonetheless, so I'm
not taking her. Sorry Meredith, by the way, I like
how you're trying to work out this logic on the air,

(03:18):
so you know how to have the conversation with your
wife about there's no conversation. Have Organs playing. I'm sorry
on Organs playing. I'm not taking her to her dance class. Well, listen,
I'm not here to try and piss you off. That's
the last thing I want to do. But I do
feel like you're gonna be very annoyed with a couple
of conversations. Uh this segment. Now, I just want you
to look. I mean, you are a Laker fan, Jeff Schwartz, Um,

(03:41):
you are a die hard Laker fan, and I'm just
curious what you make of the off season strategy thus
far of the l A Lakers who dealt with injuries. Um,
to you know, Lebron James an aging player, Anthony Davis
appears to be an aging player before our very eyes
struggle with you know, the three point shot and their

(04:03):
ability to hit a basket in the postseason against the Suns.
And they follow that up with signing trading for Russell
Westbrook and then adding guys like Dwight Howard, Trevor Reasa,
and Wayne Ellington via free agency. I'm just curious, what's
the plan here, Like, what am I missing? What's going on? Well,

(04:25):
it's clearly not to get younger and get better shooting, So, um,
I don't know what the plan is. I I was
pretty happy with the direction the team went a couple
of years ago, right, obviously they won the title in
the bubble. Um, But I I don't know. But then again,
who who are the options for shooting that it was
available to sign, Like, I don't know what they could

(04:47):
have done. Besides, they need to sign some some players.
I mean, yeah, and I know they got younger, but uh,
you know they went back to Dwight Howard to get
bigger and maybe that's insurance for Anthony Davis, you know,
the Westbrook trade. I think it's more about the regular season,
like if Lebron or a d need time off, Westbrook

(05:09):
will carry the load. But again, the shooting is the problem, right,
Like where is your shooting coming from? Yeah, buddy Healed
was a guy that was thrown out there early on?
Is is you know, potentially making a move And once
they made the decision to go after Russell Westbrook, the
feeling is that that deal is dead. Um, look, I
I don't I don't know if this is just Lebron

(05:32):
having some influence and saying, hey, man, if we're gonna
do this, this is the way I feel most comfortable
protection on the inside with veteran players. I don't want
to have to rely on a young player. Um and
Lebron's you know, similar to a lot of players that
they would rather not have to deal with a young player.
And so Lebron probably wants a veteran roster. But I'm

(05:52):
just I'm looking at it going Look, the injuries are
a real thing. Lebron has been there three years, He's
been injured two in the three years. I mean at
some point, like we gotta start talking about this as
you know, the end being closer than a lot of
people maybe understand are expecting. I think people think the
end is closer than than than not. But again, I

(06:13):
think that's why the Westbrook edition is a regular season edition.
Like he can help them get through a time of
when someone is because Westbrook is rarely injured, right. I mean,
he's plays every night. He he he's high energy. You know,
he scores a lot of points. Obviously, he's you know,
the average triple double. He he's he's legit, he's a player.
The question obviously is in the playoffs and can he

(06:33):
control himself from from just being a ballhog, right and
and just you know and whatnot. Um, I'm curious to
see the health of the Lakers with the with the
regular off season. Like Lebron you remember two three years,
you know, he missed the playoffs and he came back
and was good in a second year. Then they took
four months off and came back in the bubble and

(06:54):
was fabulous. So maybe this time off after losing the
first round of the playoffs in a regular off season
helps him stay healthier next year. Yeah, I mean it could, uh,
and I think that's gonna be and you know he's
gonna be super motivated based on what happened and how
everything went down in the postseason. To me, this entire
team hinges on Anthony Davis and whether or not he

(07:16):
can you know, play a full season and his body
not breakdown. But uh, you know that was one element
of this, you know, segment based around what probably is
going to piss you off, because you know, if you
didn't like some of those moves, you'd be upset as
a Laker fan. So now we transition and do phase
two of how we can piss Jeff Schwartz off here
on a Tuesday morning on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, and

(07:39):
we move over to um, Nick Foles, Nick Foles who
has been subject of trade rumors because of the injury
to Carson Wentz. Jeff Schwartz, Uh, can you summarize your
feeling on Nick Foles as a quarterback at this point
in his career? Not very good? Um, it's she's okay.

(08:01):
So you know what he did in was one of
the most incredible things we've seen in NFL history. Right,
he was un unbelievable in the anti championship game. In
the Super Bowl before that, not very good, very he
almost retired famously, came back and here we brought him back.
And since then he's not been good. I think he's

(08:23):
had one game where he was decent um at least
not He had one game and then he gets a
text before yards. That game was closely resembled what happened
in the ANSTI Championship game and the Super Bowl. Otherwise
he has not been good. He was not good in Jacksonville.
It's not good last year. He has not been a
good quarterback for multiple years now, and people refuse to

(08:46):
admit that, and they just automatically like Nick Foles. Nick Foles,
he's the guy we side nick Foles. Guys, he's not
been good. Why would we sign a player was not
good just because he did it with Frank Right four
years ago? Now that was the seven T wasn't you
in the head coach was Doug Peterson who was calling
plays like, come on, guys, this is not the same quarterback.

(09:07):
The thing that is always so I guess it's not
because I I remember when I used to be a fan.
But you know, the backup quarterback. Everyone loves the backup
quarterback until they actually have to play right. And you know,
I hear Colts fits Jacob Easton just he's he he
if you watch chack up. I watched a lot at
Eastern College as a as an organ fan. I no, no,

(09:30):
I I would not look at Jacob Easton. Sam Elnger,
do you watch him play in college? I mean, does
he scream like legit NFL starter for you? No? Not
not for me. Most franchise quarterbacks, and there are, of
course outliers Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott are drafted
early in the draft. There's a reason for that, they're
typically the most talented players, right, I mean, how often

(09:51):
do we have quarterbacks? Look, Tom Brady was overlooked, but
we can we and we can argue the reasons why.
But he has elite armed talent, he has elite mental assessing. Um,
you know, he has elite accuracy. That that just he
just fell the sixth round for for many reasons, right
like that that that is an outlier. Russell Wilson fell
because of his size, right, not doesn't have elite size.

(10:13):
Dak Prescott fell. He had some issues in Mississippi State.
But again, I mean as far as you know, kind
of body and arm strength, I think coming out of
college there with some questions about whether or not he
fit maybe in the NFL model of a quarterback. He's
has been great obviously. So the idea that Sam Elinger
or the idea that that you know, Jacob Eason or
even Nick Foles, who's the third string quarterback right now,

(10:35):
third string quarterback, is going to come in and be
the savior for the Colts is ludicrous. The savior for
the Colts is Marcus Mariota or Jimmy Garoppolo. But those
don't make too much sense because then what do you
do when once comes back? Like I mean, there's a
there's a there's a fair scenario where Jimmy Garoppolo or
Marcus Marioto played really well the first month of this season. Right,

(10:56):
it's a great offensive line, you have weapons. Do you go?
Do you go? Wentz? At that point, I mean, I
don't think the arguments that that unfair to make that
Mario was better than Carson Wentz. So if you bring
in Mariota, you're bringing in someone who's better than the
guy you've invested in now for a couple of years.
So they might just have to roll with these young

(11:18):
guys out of almost protection for Carson Wentz. Can you
imagine that situation when the guy behind him, fans are
calling for that guy because he's so good, not so good,
better than Carson Wentz. Yeah, I mean that's and that
was the issue in Philadelphia, whether it was you know,
Nick Foles or whether it was Jalen Hurts. I mean,
he heard all that conversation and it felt like the

(11:39):
backup quarterback in Philly was the most popular guy. And
I think that warn't happened went But Wentz has got
to be more mature than to make, you know, to
make that ruin his time wherever he's at. I mean,
you know, we we're we're always getting replaced. I mean
that is the job of an NFL front office is
to replace you, right, to find someone better than you,
who's cheaper, who's who can do the job you do

(12:00):
for less money, right, and so they're always trying to
replace you. And Aaron Rodgers is interesting. Aaron Rodgers for
all the the you know, the drama this offseason, he
actually handled the Jordan Loved drafting exactly how you would
want a super super lingering. He he was the m
v P last season. He he said, you know what,
screw you Packers, screw you, Jordan Love. I'm gonna prove

(12:21):
everyone wrong. And he did. That's actually how you're supposed
to handle it, right. Yeah, of course it bothered him
that they drafted him. Of course it bothered him that
they didn't tell him they were doing it. But when
went at his best year Alex Smith and seen you
know he ever one said he was great about them
Homes Like I gotta imagine he wasn't happy they drafted
ma Homes out so the playoffs multiple years in a row.
Best season of career, right, So that's how you handled that,

(12:44):
Carson Wentz. You don't handle that by by being you know,
by by losing all your confidence. So I think the
Colts have to walk a fine line here of of Okay,
well we have a team that can win. Now do
we roll with Easton or eleanor or do we go
get a quarterback, but we take get someone who's too good,
which get Nick Foles because he's gonna ruined Carson went
to his confidence. I don't know what they do here.

(13:04):
I would go get Marcus Mariotta. You have a quarterback
who can help you in Now you have a team,
especially in this division where you kind of want to
strike waltz Holt right Jacksonville right now, you know, we
don't really know what we're getting with with Urban and
Trevor Lawrence. That could blossom into something else, um, you
know Houston right now. Obviously Deshaun Watson status up in
the air, but they could they could in theory if

(13:25):
Watson shows up and and plays and is happy, they're
be really good in the years to come Tennessee. Obviously
with their roster they'll be good this kind of the year.
To do this right, and so um, I'm fascinated to
seeing Albert Brier mentioned. I think the right way. They're
gonna do this, right, see what happens with the young guys.
Then probably, you know, some point, with two weeks left

(13:46):
in the preseason trade for someone. Yeah, well, I mean
listen to Since you know, Nick Foles is the name
that's out there, I figure it's only fair that we
hear from your guy Nick Foles. Here. He was talking
about the potential of playing for Frank Reich and his
and being mentioned in some of these trade rumors. He
is one of my favorite, if not favorite coaches of
all time. He understands me as a player. He understands

(14:08):
me as a person. But you know, right I haven't
had any talks with him. I don't know. I'm a
Chicago Bear. Right now, he knows me, he understood my
mentality as a player. Carson and I have a lot
of history. I have a lot of respect for Carson
as a tremendous player. He's going through adversity once again,
but he'll bounce back and he might miss a few games,
but I know he'll be back out there. But we
haven't had any talks, so right now, I'm in Chicago, Bear,

(14:28):
and I'm gonna keep swinging with these third stringers and
we're gonna die some up. I don't want to go
to someone that like, I don't know. When you have
a great coaching staff, it's something special, big reason. You know,
we were great in Philis. We had a great coaching staff.
We did really well. They put us in position to succeed.
I don't want to just go somewhere where like I
don't know him, I don't know the offense I've done.
I've gone down that road before, and it's not gonna

(14:49):
be and something that you know, something that you're comfortable with,
so you can pull that trigger as fast as you can.
If all of a sudden you're out there in a
game and you're thinking through things, it's too slow, the
NFL is too fast. You have to be able to
just let it rip. You know, That's what I look for. Listen,
I'm thirty two. I feel great. The version of me
right now is much better than the version that played
in the Super Bowl. I'll tell you that, and I'm
confident in that. So put that through your mind. Yeah,

(15:10):
put that through your mind. Jeff Schutz, how's that feeling?
We had ever had a thirsting quarterback, pandor to to
to an old and old coach as much as that
that's uncomfortable. I'm notagine you're mad, Maggie right now you're
writing a paste. You're like, screw this guy. Definitely. Like
if I was the Bears, I would be like, you
know what, screw Nick, folks. I'm not even a trade yet.

(15:30):
Like even if they call a lot of about trading you, Like,
I've never heard that before for a third string quarterback. Yeah,
there was a lot of get me out of here,
get me out of here. I'm telling you, guys, I could. Yeah,
it was. That was very very bizarre yesterday. Yeah, I
heard that, and I thought the first person I thought
it was you, Like, I wonder how that you know,
get that through your mind. I'm better than I wasn't

(15:51):
the super Bowl? Yeah? No, totally. Everyone can see it.
That's why your third string totally. This is this is
why I think I'm good at my job, because I
don't try to make friends. Like the dude sucks right now, Okay,
like people just fly out say it. He's not very good.
You don't have to pretend everyone that Nick Folds is good.
Right now. He is not good. You don't have to
sign him because he was good four years ago, and
because he makes a pandering press conference about it. Well

(16:14):
the way, also, how is he why was he? End?
Was this like at a press conference? What? Why is he? Why?
The third string quarterbacks to the media. That's the other thing,
the media, media availability for third string quarterbacks. I want
to watch Hard Knocks. I want to see how much
coverage the third string quarterback gets on hard knocks because
it'll be a fraction of what Nick Well, he might
be one of those. He might be one of those
like those you know, those really good, uh emotional stories

(16:37):
right like something happened so there could be some trauma
in his previous life. I think they're the thirst and
quarterbacks sometimes does get a lot of run, but not
because they're good. It's because the storyline is really good. Yeah,
it's a out kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio.
He's have short time. Jonas Knocks is his FSR coming
up next. A major move made in the world of football,
and it could mean some changes in the few hucheer.

(17:00):
We'll have that for you right here on Fox Sports Radio.
This is outkicked the coverage. We are going to get
to a story in the world of football that could
cause some problems down the road. It is a massive story,

(17:20):
a story about change. We will get to that here
coming up in just a few moments from now here
on fs ARE. By the way, Uh, there was a
shout out. Somebody reached out to me on on my phone,
sent me a text message the great Arnie Spaniard. Now,
are you familiar with who Arnie Spanier is sports? Yeah, so,
Arnie Spanier is one of the all time greats in

(17:42):
sports radio. You talk about an antagonist, you talk about
a guy who knows how to really stir the pot
and piss people off. And uh, he is obviously a
Fox Sports Radio family member here you hear him on
the weekends here at fs ARE. And Arnie reached out
and said that I am burying the lead because you,

(18:02):
your brother and Arnie all went to Pacific Palisades High
School here in southern California. It is a very very
famous high school producing the likes of the three of us.
Amy Trask as well, was as as a dolphin um
our school. It's it's going there. Didn't feel like we
had famous people that ever went to the school. But

(18:23):
like there's a lot of celebrities and there's a lot
of musicians that went to Pali. It's kind of odd.
I mean, okay, so where do you guys fall in
the rankings? Like if you were to look at the
rankings of all time Pacific Palisades High schoolers, where do
you your brother and Arnie Spaniards? Okay, so notable alums
j j Abrams, um, Genie bus So. I mean I

(18:46):
think we're below those two. I would imagine, Um, Steve
Kerr below him. Um. Uh looking at the list right now,
one of the members of l m F A O
uh is uh there we are Jeff Schwartz, Mitchell Schwartz.
Um yeah, I mean so we're uh oh, Forest Whitaker, Yeah,
we're below him as well. So will I am a

(19:11):
black Eyed piece, so we're down below, down below him
as well. Um yeah there, I mean there's in this
list here, there's about a hundred were on the list. Um,
Jennifer Jason Lee, who's the actress. Um yeah, man, we uh,

(19:32):
we're We've had a lot of famous uh famous people.
Oh Katie Siegel, Um, so yeah, we're we're not We're
not probably on the top ten. And then again that
doesn't include like like Amy Tross is not on here. Uh,
Mike Silver, who covers the NFL the UNFL network is
he's a dolphin as well. Um. One of the pictures
of of the Israeli baseball team, Um the other day

(19:56):
is a Pali lum. My brother played with him on
the baseball team. John Moscott, I believe is who started
for team Israel. Uh so like we've had we've had
a lot of Uh, I forgot Jennie Buss went to
my high school. Yeah, we're down. We're very down the list.
So basically, see you guys, are you know if this
is a top twenty five like college football, you guys

(20:19):
would be in the five range. Yeah. And this is
a public this is a public school. This is not
like a like a big probably Ja Schroeder quarterback long
time in the NFL. J Schrader, J Strader Schrader from
tech Mobile. I remember J Schrader on tech Mobile back
in the day, the old video game. We have an
Olympic gold medalist in beach volleyball who went to our

(20:41):
school as well. Yeah, well so, so there would be
a debate as to whether or not you guys would
make the top twenty five. But I will say so
you that puts you in the range. If we're just
looking at how the the the playoff rankings went in
college football last year. Here is your top your bottom
five in the top two five Texas, Oklahoma State, San

(21:03):
Jose State, NC State, Tulsa, and Oregon. That is your
twenty through. Your organ ducks are in the bottom of
the of the five there. So at least you know
it's it's a little familiar, but you know you're on
the list. And that's that's saying something that is I'm
going through this list again. This is man, I don't
I don't know half these names. But there's a hedge

(21:24):
fund manager here who has a Wikipedia page. He must
be pretty important. Then, um, yeah, he's made fourteen point
eight billion dollars. So yeah, I would say that's good.
Arnie Spaniers. Not on that list, is what you're saying. Uh, no, good.
He doesn't deserve to be, at least on the Wikipedia list.
He's not. He's not there. He doesn't deserve to be

(21:45):
until he sends me some syrup, which he which he
promised he hasn't come through with. He can kiss my ass. Sorry, Ernie,
not happening. You don't make the list. Oh, Susannah Hoffs?
Was Susannah Hoffs? Also, um, the Bengals, Yeah, yeah, Bengals. Yeah.
And by the way, Joe this and Jeff. If you've
listened to Arnie on FSR for years, he's had stories

(22:05):
about rolling around with Forest Whittaker in a convertible and
he could have taken Genie Buss to the prom. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally, yeah,
totally yeah. I don't can't stand the guy Syrup. Well,
it's very well because he lives in Vermont now, so
he's got from Pacific Palisades to Vermont, and Vermont is

(22:27):
like the syrup capital of the country. And Arnie owes
me syrup and he hasn't come through with it. So
until he comes through with it, I'm not he's not
going to be included in this list. He doesn't, he
doesn't qualify. Let's go live to our I have a
thought on Arnie span your syrup and the state of Vermont.
Insider Christ perfect for the latest. So Arnie's wife sends
everyone in the FSR production crew every year a gallon

(22:49):
jug of Vermont maple syrup and buttermilk, pancake mix and
some preserves. Now everyone, everyone in production gets that. But
somehow Jonas has always been left out from this list
of the maple syrup receivers, which is the I think
the origin of this animus here to bys Man pisces
me off. So so because of that he falls outside

(23:11):
the top twenty five. Sorry he doesn't. He doesn't make
the list for the Pacific Palisades. Great, the Dolphins, right,
that's the there's an owner of one of the Dodgers
owners want to pali the current Dodgers of Dodgers owners.
So yeah, the Pacific Palisades, the Dolphins by the sea.
It's a it's a it's a busy, busy Top twenty
five there, all right, it is that out kicked the

(23:33):
coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, we
got some trouble in the world of football, potentially some
big news. Will get to that next here, but for
all the latest, it's Eddie Garcia. By the way, Jonas,
if you want some of that syrup, I guarantee you
there's some in the fridge here at work that has
been here for god how long. I still think I

(23:53):
have a second gallon at home that I haven't even
opened yet. You're not the only one, Chris, You're not
the only news from the NBA. Several moves made with
the startup free agency. The Miami Heat reportedly gonna signed
Jimmy Butler to a max contract extension four years, hundred
and eighty four million dollars. He'd also getting point guard
Kyle Lowry from the Toronto Raptors and assign and trade.

(24:15):
Lowry reportedly gets a three year deal worth ninety million dollars.
The Atlanta Hawks and start point guard Trey Young agree
on a five year rookie max extension worth two hundred
and seven million dollars. The Oklama City Thunder also signed
guard h Golgas Alexander to a rookie max extension five years,
hundred hundred and seventy two million dollars. Point Guard Chris Paul,
who opted out of his player option on Sunday, agrees

(24:35):
on a four year deal to stay with the Phoenix
Suns worth as much as a hundred and twenty million dollars.
And the Chicago Bowls land point guard Alonzo Ball and
as sign and trade with New Orleans Pelicans. Ball agrees
on a four year deal worth eighty five million dollars.
At the Olympics, the US men's basketball team won its
quarterfinal game against Spain eighty one. Kevin durantled the US
with twenty nine points. US is out of the semifinals.
They'll face the winner of the Australia Argentina game, which

(24:58):
is going on right now. And in gymnastics, US stars
Simone Bio's taking bronze on the balance beam and what

(25:39):
Fox Sports Radio coming up fifteen minutes from now we
are going to have the scraps some things in the
world of sports we've not had a chance to get to.
Those are yours fifteen minutes from now here on fs are.
Let's get into this Quinn yours conversation because for people
that don't know that aren't familiar with the story. Um,
he is the number one ranked quarterback prospect for the

(26:02):
class high school. Um, he's number two overall. So he
is a stud and he's committed to Ohio State. And
because he's in the state of Texas, they have some
rules there in which you can't take advantage of name
image likeness while still in high school. Well, he has
just one class remaining. He's already eighteen, and so he

(26:24):
is finishing up his one class left in high school
and he's going to be leaving high school early so
that he can get to Columbus and so that he
can start taking advantage of some of these name image
likeness opportunities. And we knew that, Look, there were going
to be some some changes that were happening with all
this that players are going to be able to take
full advantage of it. We talked to Albert Brier last

(26:46):
hour here he's in Ohio state alum, and to his point,
he said, look, I'm glad that this is available for
these guys, that they have the opportunity to be able
to take advantage of this stuff while it's here. But
damn man, after everything we went through last year, guys
missing entire seasons of high school football, it just feels

(27:07):
like I'd love to get back out there and play
another year with my buddies, with my close friends. And
he's looking at this straight up as a business opportunity.
I don't I don't hate it. I'm not upset with
him about it. I just don't know if I were
in issues that I would do the same thing. So
many things to get to here, um bo, this is

(27:27):
not the first time this has happened. People, um kind
of went crazy with oh the first time. J T. Daniels,
if you recall a couple of years ago, went you know,
from USC now and like this wasn't a thing there,
but he left after his junior of high school. Uh,
he reclassified and went to USC and and that obviously
is gonna end up working out for him, as he
should be high draft pick out of Georgia this year
at three he transferred what he got hurt. So my

(27:49):
thing with the image like this, I am, I am
very supportive of and I was very happy it happened.
But we were promised a lot of deals on July one.
If you recall a lot of people tweeting out athletes
are getting seven figures, And my thing is like, okay,
well it's been a month. Where are the deals at

(28:11):
show me the deals. If you're if your Quinn and
you expect to have a lot of deals, okay, good,
I'm glad, But you kind of have to play to
get him, buddy, and you're not playing this year. You're
not coming into camp and winning a job out of
high school. Sorry, right, it's I would be I would

(28:31):
be shocked if you won the job. So his first
year at Ohio State, he's not gonna play very much.
And then a second year, is he then gonna beat
out the starter who's now starting this year in the
year two? I don't know. Unlikely, probably, right, I am
in my off base here. You watch college sports, it
feels unlikely. So so now you're now you're gonna have

(28:53):
two years at Ohio State where you're not playing, and
of course injuries happened, and so I'm not saying he's
never gonna play, but at now are you're gonna get
n I L money being a backup in Ohio State. Now,
you can still be the backup next year too, obviously
if you went in that's definitely possible, but be one
less year, right because the guy in front of you
would end up leaving to the NFL at some point.

(29:14):
You would assumably take that job at some point. The
thing about this is that I hope all these athletes
get the money that people have claimed they're going to
get on social media, but we have not seen it
happen to the extent. And I always thought this would
be the case. I argued for a long time. The
n I L is great, but it's only gonna be great,
like life changing for one percent of one percent, like

(29:36):
the very top and the rest of the guys like me,
three star player out of California. Do you know what?
It would have been great to me? And and I
grew up luckily enough for this wasn't an issue of mine.
But like you know, like okay, well, let's have Jeff Shorts.
I don't have You know, I don't have money, as
as you know, my family doesn't have money, and I'm
in college. And now I get free meals. You don't

(29:58):
save myself bucks, get free drinks at the bar. My
rent gets reduced because I play football. Those little changes
like that are great for an athlete who doesn't have money.
If anyone doesn't have money, right, you get free meals,
you get free drinks. You know, you might get five
bucks to go sign autographs like those little changes are

(30:19):
what's gonna be helpful for everyone else. Look, Dearick King,
we saw him get broke off already. You know. Nick
Saban mentioned that Bryce Young their presuming starters gonna get
a million dollars at n I l right, and he
said that for a couple of reasons. One is he
wants to let recruits know that if you come to Alabama,
little Tuscaloosa, you're gonna get money. And he said, speaking
in Texas at high school coach, Yes, I just but

(30:43):
think of that. I want to see these things. I
want to see Quinn now show pot a house. Stay
in the article mention he's gonna get a local kimbucha.
You know, distributors gonna give him money, and he has
merchandising deals. Who who is who is like clamoring for
Quinn Your's merchandise right now? Like like I just I

(31:04):
think I think players have overvalued themselves. Look, there is
some brand value of of Ohio State to be attached
to your name, like there is an athletes think that
they are the only sell No, no no, no, your school
is also helping you sell, right, Cavon Thibodau. Organ is
doing n f T with Nike. Great, great, But if
you're not an organ, if Organ's not attached to that project,

(31:26):
that's not the same project, right, It's not the same word.
So I am happy and els here, but but Jonas,
I need to see these deals before we declare this
a win. And and also when Nick Saban says that
you know, his quarterback Bryce Young is going to be
getting you know, close to a million dollars, there's a

(31:47):
big difference between that and Quinn. You or is just
from the standpoint that Bryce Young is going to be
playing in a month, like you're going to see him.
So if you're a company that's looking to endorse a player,
it's immediate return on your investment. If you're Quinn yours,
how long before he sees the field? Two years? Three years? Like,
I don't know if I'm a company out there looking

(32:07):
to sponsor somebody, like, don't you want to see some
of that? You know that that guy that you're backing
out there on the field at some point and with
him leaving early? I mean, Jeff, I don't. I mean,
if we're making an over under on how long before
Queen yours is the starting quarterback at Ohio State and
I set the over under at two and a half years,

(32:29):
I'm taking the over I'm sorry, you know I thought
of that. This um the return investment thing. I don't
know if the boosters really care and return on investment
with some of this, because you're really not going to
ever get that if you're giving, they're they're just trying
to get some guys in the door at this point. Yes,

(32:52):
and no, I don't. Look, there's always been payment, you know,
behind the scenes for players. Right, How let's not be
how could you you're ruin You're gonna poison my love
for college football by scene and stuff like that goes on.
Let's not be arried about this Okay. Um, Now, the
money behind the scenes a not taxable, right because you

(33:14):
don't know it's there now. Of course you maybe the
parents and players are finding taxes on the money, but
that'd be easy to track, right. Um, So do boosters
now want this stuff to be known? Right? We paid
five hundred thousand dollars for a player. It's definitely possible
that this becomes more public. But I don't know if
boosters really want to make this public, right, So I'm
not sure it changes kind of black market behind the scenes.

(33:36):
So I just don't know how much he's You know,
the N I L deal are supposed to be made public, right,
so we can also for transparency at least you're supposed to.
Who knows, But again, I think boosters are not gonna
want to throw away the money publicly, as they're more
willing to pay for these guys privately. If that makes sense. Yeah, No,

(33:57):
it's uh. And And this is why I think there's
going to be some examples. And I'm not saying that
Queen Yours is going to be one of these examples,
but there's gonna be some examples of a guy who
who made a bunch of money, who who jumped early
at an opportunity to make some some money early in
his career that maybe, in the long run, might have
made a mistake. And I don't know if that's gonna

(34:17):
be quin yours, but I think that there's gonna be
some of those cases. It's interesting too that he said
in the article that his family doesn't need the money.
But this is more on principle that Texas won't let
him even earn money on his which is silly. Right,
Texas should change that law immediately. Um So I thought
that we're right. He said it's not about the money,
it's about principle, which I found. I don't know if

(34:42):
he's the is he now like the leader of this movement?
Like I I it's just kind of you know I
I is he? I it's I get what he's doing.
Not the first player to do this, because J. D.
Daniels left early. We kind of freaked out about this
and like, oh, this is the first thing ever. But Jonas,
I want to see this. I want to see it happen.
I want to see the numbers. I want to see

(35:03):
that the names are Likeness has given Quinn the money
he thinks he's gonna get Yeah, it's uh and and
we will wait and see what sort of these deals
look like when it's all said and done. He's Jeff Schwartz,
I'm Jonas Knocks. It's I'll kick the Coverage here on

here Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knocks Jeff Schwartz with you

(36:07):
here on fs ARE. We will be back on the
air tomorrow morning, six am Eastern time, three o'clock Pacific,
as we continue the countdown to the Hall of Fame
game and the degenerate debauchery that will be some of
the gambling lines that we dive into here coming up
for Thursday. But we will be again back here tomorrow,

(36:27):
same time, same place, right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Right now, though, it is time for something we do
on the show, and it's called this How could you
not get to? These stories? Are the scraps? And for
that we turned it over to our executive producer, Danny
g to find out what the hell we've missed so

(36:47):
far in the show. Danny, all right, the headline from
the USA Today Yankee Stadium grounds crew desperately tries and
fails to corral a cat on the field. We've seen
this before, obviously, lee, especially at baseball games, But Monday,
during the Yankees game against the Orioles, play was stopped
in the bottom of the eighth after a cat wandered

(37:07):
onto the outfield. The Yankee Stadium grounds crew they had
more than they bargained for. They could not catch this cat.
It was running up and down the side of the wall.
You got to see the video. It's gone viral. This
cat's jumping all over the place, and much like other
cats on the field that we've seen, the real enjoyment

(37:28):
comes from the fan reaction and the broadcasters commentary. Yankee
fans chanted, m v P. Let's go cat. In fact,
I have the TV call right here. Listen. We've seen
this before, Michael, remember in Seattle, and then the groundch
crew actually picked up that little kitten and the kitten
bid him, ended up trapping him again. What that cat

(37:52):
is going to be exhausted out? It's just opened the door.
What do they do with um of goodness? Two times
the cat was right near the bullpen door and they
kept the door closed. It makes no sense. I can't

(38:13):
make this up. Hey, that thing was pretty elusive to
catch out there, Joey Gallows said. Their tactics to get
it I think could have been worked on. But that
thing was quick. By the way, why Yankee Stadium. You've
seen the size of the sewer rats in New York.
That cat. If you if you're looking for some action

(38:34):
like go somewhere else, go into the street to Manhattan,
go around and one of the alleys there, but by
one of those street meat carts and and and hang
out there? What are you doing in Yankee Stadium? Come on,
it's a bad place to be. It was a funny
video to watch yesterday, it was, But I mean, there
are better options out there. If I were a cat,
I'm not going to Yankee Stadium. I'm out. Sorry, you

(38:55):
don't want to overprice the beer and hot dog? No,
I'm good, I'm all good there, No, I'll wall pass.
It also makes me miss Dick Enberg because years ago
it was one of the famous Mallard drops we used
when a cat ran on the field of a Padres game.
That's a plumb pussy right there, thank you. Dick said

(39:16):
that he did. Oh lord, I've never heard that. I
forgot about that, my god, by the way, and that
would have happened now, you know, you know, and he
would have done it during this and Nick Castellano's at
bat too would of course, of course. And finally, speaking
of Ben Maller earlier this morning, I heard him say

(39:37):
he's going to find a way to illegally stream this
when it happens. Connor McGregor is down to strap on
the gloves for a charity wheelchair boxing match, but he
just needs a little bit more time to recover. On Monday,
he wrote to his fans that he'd followed through on
a surprise announcement that he was scheduled to box Al feign,
a McGregor impressionist, on September eleven and a charity match

(40:00):
for the Irish Wheelchair Association. But McGregor says he needs
a little bit more time for physical therapy, but maybe
November or December he'll be ready to go with this
wheelchair boxing event. Good for him, And you know what,
and make as much money as you can. Why the
hell not. People are gonna buy if you can, If
you can make a little bit of coin, and you
can do it for a good cause, why not. Come on, Jeff,

(40:22):
and look, Jeff, you're not paying for this. If this were,
if this were a pay per view opportunity to help
some people out, come on. I don't pay for paper
view opportunity for good fights. I don't think I'm gonna
do it for bad fights. Well listen, you know not
not everybody can you know, be his successful when it
comes to the NFL gambling world, as you so some
of us out there. That's why I don't waste some
money and paper for you. Because I make so much money,

(40:42):
I don't want to waste it. That's a good point,
all right. We will make some money together here Tomorrow
morning gets out kicked the coverage Fox Sports Radio keep
it locked on fs ARE
