(00:49):
And that, guys, it is college football week. We're gonna
have plenty on that. But it is the NFL that
is still heating up here as we head into the season.
Fun stuff all the way through and through. Can I
ask this question? No? No, I feel like first impressions
are are so meaningful right like they's They're incredibly meaningful
in relationships that could be in business and anything. Right,
(01:12):
And LaVar Jonas and I have been talking about this
the past couple of days. But do you view the
preseason as a first impression, especially for new head coaches
rookie quarterbacks or or do you say yeah, but it's
it's not necessarily significant because it doesn't necessarily mean what's
gonna happen to the regular season? Like, how do you
(01:33):
view the preseason as it relates to first impressions? Man,
you came out the gay swinging. That was that was quick.
You jumped into a quick Uh. You know, Brady h
That's a great question. First of all, because you don't
want to be the new guy like you look at
Urban Meyer, you know some of these new coaches, uh,
(01:54):
and what's going on. You don't want to be the
guy that doesn't show that you can coach, even in preseason.
So it's almost like you do want to prove a
point that I can organize the game plan, I can
organize the strategy, we can be organized in our approach
and win the game. But then if you understand what
(02:15):
preseason represents, then it's like he has no idea what
he's getting himself into, right, you know what I mean?
Bright like yeah, you're sitting there, You're like, oh my gosh,
Like he has no clue, like God bless and good luck,
Like you have no idea, Like I can tell by
the way you approached trying to win this game that
(02:37):
this is more important to you. This is, this is
this shouldn't be as important to you, and so that's
the idea of it is. So it's like it's a
damn if you do, damn if you don't type of situation,
because if you do come out swinging, then you're winning
for that first impression. Then it's like, man, it's the preseason,
like what are you doing. You're overcompensating, and once we
(02:58):
get to the regular season then we'll find out. Now
if you if you come out swinging and you win
in the preseason with your first impression and then you
win in the regular season, then you won. But the
only way you win is if you win at both times.
If you lose in the preseason but you win in
(03:19):
the regular season, then you have to deal with maybe
the criticism and the scrutiny of what comes with being
a new coach and losing in the preseason, but you
ultimately started winning in the regular season, which will obviously
destroy the critics, you know, their discussion points on a
poor preseason. I would rather be able to get through
(03:40):
a preseason and win and kind of take the posture
as if I've already been here and not care if
I lose my first first games in the preseason. Don't
optics matter in the preseason, because I actually I think
they do, because if you watch, like just think, okay,
go back to the Monday Night came The final score
was a two point game, so New Orleans won by
(04:01):
two points. You can look at that and say, hey man,
Herbert Mayer, he's competitive against a team that's been really
good in the NFC for a long time, in the Saints.
If you actually watch the game, the first half told
you the entire story. This is not looking good. The
optics of it were terrible, and so I I come
away from you know, Sirianni, we talked about it last week,
(04:22):
the Thursday night game against New England. I came away
from that going Philly's got problems, And I came away
from Monday Night Brady going, hey man, Jacksonville has got problems.
And the problems got even worse because Travis a t
N first round draft pick, second running back taken one
pick after um Naji Harris of Pittsburgh. Uh, he gets hurt,
(04:43):
knocked out. You know it was a Liz Frank. There
was some speculation about he's gonna miss some time, and
then it comes out later Brady and I know you've
had the injury. Liz Frank injury. He's done for the year.
So they're already without one of their first round picks
for the season. I think the toughest sport about that too.
And LaVar, you can speak to this like when you
face an offense that you don't really feel challenged by
or threatened by, like E. T N probably next to
(05:06):
DJ Chark, who's displayed himself as as their top receiver
when healthy, didn't play in the preseason game. But you know,
those two guys are probably the ones that are gonna
be able to make or could have made some of
their biggest plays. Right. E t N can catch the
ball in space. He's probably a guy that as a linebacker,
i'd assume you'd say a man of stinks, like, I
don't want to match up against this guy, or you
(05:27):
have to at least figure out ways of trying to
keep him in the backfield. But that's the hard part now,
is like the one of the things I forget the
offensive line protection because the Saints are good up front.
They were playing with three backups. Even though there is
a thought that like Walker Little was playing left tackle.
I mean he might he might get the start, you know,
he might be a part of that starting five in
some capacity, if not a left tackle, we'll see. But
(05:50):
it's more that watching two preseason games now, whether it
was verse the Browns or versus the Saints, like there
is no separation. I told this, I told Joe to
this before. Like we used to call Velcrow coverage. It's
not Cover one, it's not Cover three, not Cover two, LeVar,
it's it's bel Crow. It's where no matter what they're playing,
they're not getting open right. You know. It's interesting because
(06:14):
if you have the benefit of the doubt, you don't
have to separate yourself in the preseason like you're just
you're in the preseason and that's what's taking place, and
that's what you have going on, and you'll be judged
once you get to the regular season. Like the Patriots
don't generally have really really successful preseasons, but when you
look at you know what's going on in Jacksonville. And listen,
(06:37):
I I played. I played for coach Burrier when he
came to the National Football League as as an offensive
guru and headball coach, the headball coach, and we had
a really successful preseason and he won the preseason. But
but he you know, they went once they started scheming him,
(06:58):
once they understood what was going on in in the
regular season, that Valcro coverage became evident and apparent. Uh,
there were a lot of things that just changed once
we got to the regular season, and our coaching staff
wasn't prepared to be able to handle it, and us
as players weren't prepared to handle it, and it got
pretty ugly pretty quickly. Um here, here's here's one thing
(07:22):
that I'll take out of this, and it's kind of
off topic, but I would love to hear, uh your
your take on as Brady is you talked about guys
getting those injuries and et N getting that that liszt
Frank injury, and you know, the idea of playing in
the preseason. What's your take on that, because to me,
(07:42):
that's been an ongoing conversation that I've been a part
of is is it? Is it smart or is it soft?
Joey Taylor said on on Speak for Yourself yesterday, they're
smart and then they're soft. I said, it's soft for
guys to be played stem bubble wrap and not play
any type of downs, any plays during the course of
(08:05):
the preseason. I think everybody should play. If you're in college,
you don't get the benefit of oh we're playing Bowling
Green this week. Oh we're playing two lane or or Toledo.
We're gonna sit out all of our starters until we
get to regular play, you know, conference playing to the
season like nobody does sit out so while you're trying
(08:27):
to make it to the league. So that now all
of a sudden, you make it to the league and
oh we've got to sit them out. Oh they need
rest time. That was my take on it. I don't
care if you play a series and you're done. At
least play a series before you're done. So, but now
you're you're seeing some of these made. That's a major hit.
That's a major blow losing a t N on your
(08:51):
team that he's a comfort blanket for for Trevor Lawrence
and you don't you now don't have that that dynamic,
multidimensional back out of your backfield. What's your take on that, Like,
how do you look at, uh, the idea of sitting
versus playing guys in the preseason, and and how that
applies to the first impression. Should you have rested your
(09:14):
guys and said listen, no, I don't need to say
he's a rookie. Whatever I'm I'm going to wrest them
and see what happens. I think the hard part about
the comparison between college NFL is even though you're playing
Bowling Green, they're saying I'm not gonna sit out or
not gonna they're probably not playing the third fourth quarter
right because you're blowing them out, and that game is meaningful.
Even though it's a lesser opponent, it's still meaningful because
(09:36):
it counts in your records. You know, these things get
wiped away once preseasons over with, so I think, and
we were talking about how you know the Browns and
Lions when they both went oh in sixteen, they went
four and over the preseason, so that gives you any
indication of how insignificant they are. The two were seasons
we've seen in recent history, both a good preseasons. So
(09:56):
I just I kind of look at and think it
depends on the individual roll and it depends on where
the team's at, because I think you can find examples
of guys who didn't I mean, Carson Wentz didn't really
play in preseason before he started his rookie season, and
then he lit the world on fire when he when
he first started Week one, and I was like, dude,
this guy coming from a smaller school hasn't played preseason, Like,
(10:18):
what are we gonna get? And next thing you know,
there was like a bill I think on the floor
in Pennsylvania name of Wensylvania. If you're bad, they Weania.
It's like that pretty quickly, Hey where are you going?
I'm h where is that? I mean Pennsylvania changed and
(10:40):
change back very quickly. I don't know. It's it's such
a tough question to answer because I always come back
it's football. You know, this stuff happens and and it's
part of your job, and you're gonna get injured, and
that's why it's a ruthless business for for players and
contracts and all that. Um. I think there's probably a
discussion to like, do you draft the back in the
(11:00):
first round, you know, knowing that they're more susceptible to injuries,
at least offensively, and their shelf life is probably shorter
than any other player. And were they justifying that pick
by saying, well, we might use them as a wide receiver,
because then if you'll use them as a wide receiver
running back, you're saying, oh, there's more value there, right,
But the truth of the matter is he was gonna
(11:22):
be a running back, right. I mean all the prop
bets and everything else that we're out there, which may
have made a few mistakes this week, fellas may have
said take the over on rushing yards for for one,
Travis E. T n just yeah, you know, I did
say pending injury, which obviously taken. I said it. I
(11:43):
said take the over. I told some people that, and
uh now he's hurt. So yeah, I probably should have
made that caveat wait till the regular season starts. But
because here's the thing is, I feel like as a quarterback,
once I got like older in my career, I didn't
need to play in the preseason. I felt all fine
and it was, it was all good, but I had
to because then it was I was competing for some
(12:05):
sort of spot right. Either way, it will was to
be a backup, you know, starting or getting a leg up,
so you could go in and start, whatever the case
may be. You know, for some of these guys, once
you're proven, I don't think you need to, but I
think as a rookie, you gotta see what it looks like.
You gotta wrap up some of that intense today. So
I think it's so individualized, it's so tough to say
if there's one standard that there should be for that. Yeah,
(12:27):
I agree, I don't. I don't think you can measure
it off of the preseason. So I think that that
ultimately comes to to the you know, the conclusion of
it is, even if you're ridiculed or maligned coming out
of of a presea, a poor preseason, like you said,
it gets wiped away. It gets washed away and now
the real games begin, and now the real judgments are
going to become. By the way, how bad must Tim
(12:50):
Tebow have been if he couldn't make this roster. I'm
just saying, man, like, I'm just so gifted do you
have to be to be able to make it and
have an opportunity different? I agree, But it felt like
it was it was an opportunity to take a shot.
You sorry. You know how many people I made upset
(13:12):
just then when I just said that gift you have
to have an opportunity at a different vises. Can we
now call him the way it's it's supposed to be
pronounced to bow? It doesn't? Yeah, yeah, French, I think
it's funny you just said it though, well isn't. Well
you know what he said it with such a great
radio you know, you know it's that that is true,
(13:40):
that that is true. And the funny thing about that
is it would take a golden dome er to to
say that about Well, yeah, I'll call him out for it,
all right. I didn't look, I didn't. We didn't go
back and put the O'Quinn on my last name just
to look more Irish. Kept it off when we came
over to the States. By the way, before we get
to break, before we get to break, the same with me,
(14:01):
you know, we didn't keep the o Arrington when we
came over because we didn't want to confuse people. You
know what I mean. Lavars are like man. That is
one dark irishman right there, but the darker complexion we're
going to get to that thing. There was something to
be said about a story that came out. Yes, they're
(14:22):
gonna get by the way, LaVar, we just want to
get ahead of this story. First at Happy St. Patrick's
Day to you and yours. There on Fox Sports Trade,
it is Outkai the coverage. Here on fs are, Jonas
knocks LaVar Quinn, man, I've never married. By the way,
this is approp where is my beer? This? This is
(14:44):
out kick the coverage. It's how kicked the coverage. Here
on Fox Sports Radio, Jonas knocks Brady Quinn, LaVar Arrington
with you here on FS are coming up in about
ten minutes from now, a very puzzling situation that an
NFL coach has put his team and his face ends in.
We will get to that here. Tim ons are so
(15:07):
Brady brilliance. Jonas, Yeah, because you never know when the
stories change. But Brady, I don't know if you know this,
but there was a new survey that came out that
listed Notre Dame's fighting Irish leprechron as the fourth most
offensive college football mascot. Now, I mean, we don't even
(15:30):
need to get into the top three, but I mean, listen,
I'm outraged as well too, and LaVar you being irish.
I know you're outrage as well too. This is just
really bothersome, Brady that this is happening. I'm look, I'm Irish.
I'm from Dublin, okay, mind you, ohile, but still from Dublin.
And there of going to Notre Dame, the lepricn everything
(15:54):
with it was part of, you know, not not a
huge factor, but part of the reason why when I
went there, I thought, this is cool, this is really cool.
I don't think it is um by any means offensive.
I think this article it has some points. I think
if you want to point to some other mascots, I'm
not going to speak on that. But this is one
(16:15):
of the dumbest things, the dumbest things I have ever read.
In fact, I think Notre Dame was a good job
of celebrating leper cons, not that they're even a real thing.
I was about to say they're a legend, right, That's
like me really exist the dumbest article. And this is
what happens this time of year. You'll get people in
(16:37):
the media and especially around college football starting up. They
just throw Notre Dame's name in there, and people are
outraged because people either love or Dame and so as
long as you incorporated are really something Notre Dame, people
are going to click on it. And that's what this
is about. So shame on whoever did this article and
this survey. It's the dumbest thing I've ever want an
the most brilliant thing they do nowadays. And I pay
(16:59):
attention to this. You see it when there's a when
there's a prop bet that comes out because gambling is
so prevalent. You know, the team that's always mentioned, like, oh,
where's his next destination? The Cowboys every single time, even
if it doesn't make sense, even if even if they're
not even like it would make no sense for them
to make a move or sign a player, if the
Cowboys are there, it generates interest. So I agree. I
(17:20):
think this is absolutely them putting Notre Dame in there
because they knew it was going to get outrage, and
they knew it was going to be talked about in
the national radio shows that I can find about a
leper con is how many kids have had nightmares and
have been scared the hell out of and me being
one of them by the movie, like that little dude
(17:42):
scared but Jesus, it looks like it looks like I've
never been one to watch horror flicks. But let me
tell you something, that dude he scared me. It looks
like Ron Howard's brother. I'll tell you. Ever seen Ron
Howard's brother. He's in all of Ron Howard's films. He's
always some side character. It looks like. No, I'm just
saying like, it looks a lot like him. You know
(18:04):
something that you do an impression Jonas of it on
the LEPrecon. No, I can't. I'm not. I'm not. I'm
not going down that road. But can you do it? No?
I can't do it? No, I can't. I can't. Brady
touching on it. I tried. By the way, can we
also call it what it is? Lucky charms? Most overrated
cereal on the planet. Admit that you're right there. I'm going,
(18:27):
I'm what are we talking about here? Can't I think
any cereal were like half the cereal? You're just trying
to focus on that eat that which are the marshmallows.
The rest of the cereals you don't even want. You
don't ask the nutritional value. But then it's like all
my kids pick out the lucky charms. There's nothing left.
You're right, You're right. Once the marshmallows are gone, the
fun is over. Yeah. And by the way, I tried
(18:49):
to sneak that that those grains come on skip and
go straight to Guinness next time. Racist. This is Outkicked
the Coverage. Hey, it's me Rob Parker. Check out my

H anybody, Julie, Hey, guess what day it is? Come on,
I know you can hear me. Mike, Mike. Whatever that is? Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.
What day is it? Mike? Lestlie? Guess what today is?
It's Humpday, Mike. It's out Kick the Coverage here Fox
(20:08):
Sports Radio. He's LaVar Arrington. That guy's Brady Quinn. I'm
Jonas Knocks with you here on fs ARE and right
now for some breaking news out of the NFL, we
go to Eddie Garcia breaking news from Fox Sports. The
sound bite makes it sounds so much more exciting. Adam
(20:29):
Schefter reporting Sony Michelle, running back New England Patriots, has
been traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for
two late round conditional draft picks. Uh So, Sony Michelle,
former Georgia Bulldog now headed to Los Angeles. Well, it
worked so well with their last George running back, so
(20:51):
why not? Why not double dad? You know? Why not?
I mean, maybe we'll get some clarity on his on
his damn knee injury this time? The hell happened there
with Tod? Can I give you my Sony Michelle story.
That's kind of funny. Yes, So we're at the combine,
and I remember, like when when I was at the combine,
you know, everyone's got a roommate, which I hadn't had
(21:13):
a roommate since my freshman year of college. So that's
not true my senior year. No, no, no no, no, I'm
just saying like I was able to finagle it. So
I didn't really have a roommate my senior year. I
actually I did room with my buddy from my hometown.
But anyway, that's beside the point in the combine. I
was like, oh man, I haven't really you know, I
had there to share a room in a hotel because
(21:34):
as a player, you know, had your own room and
all that stuff. So fortunately Darius Walker, who was our
running back and Notre Dame, he walked in when we
were an Indian like awesome, Like I know this dude, great, dude,
Like that's not gonna be awkward. Right. So when I
when I got in a broadcasting I always thought like
an interesting question to ask the guys who are at
the combine is like, hey, who's your roommate? Sony. Michelle
(21:54):
looked at me in COEs, I don't know. I go
hold on for a second. I said, how long have
you been here? Now? He's like three days? I go,
and you've been sleeping next to a three or four
feet away, an absolute stranger that you don't know who
is in that bed next to you. Because yeah, he's
like we kind of said what's up, but like our
schedules have been off and uh. We basically like if
(22:17):
when we've seen each other, like he's been sleeping, I've
probably been sleeping. He never knew who his roommate was. No, no, hey, bro,
can you wake up for two seconds? So what's your name?
Not know who his roommate was? I was like, I
don't know how you guys feel about that. I could
never go through life and sleep three or four feet
(22:40):
away from someone that I have no idea who that is,
Like if they're gonna wake up in the middle of
the night and be like sleep walk in and like
have a bad dream where they're gonna be like trying
to you know, beat me up, like said, who knows.
But it was the oddest thing ever to me. What
some cats this this is just culturally speaking, some cats
just get used having bunk mates all the time. You know,
(23:03):
you squeeze up in the same cribs and different things
like that, and you don't pay attention to it, like
it just becomes it's just the normality of of what
you've got going on, and so you want they took
better care of him at Georgia though, like I can't imagine,
but you know, you just never know. I don't know
what his background is. But I just know for certain
some of the situations that I you know, with some
(23:25):
of my homies, they you know, cats like be three
four dudes to not not in the room, it'd be
two three dudes to a bed like like you know
what I mean, like not real talk, you know what
I mean, like real talk. Like So so every once
in a while you have dudes like that, just you know,
if it's a group home, like you got group home kids,
you got you got you know different you know you got.
(23:48):
I ain't gonna go too deep into it, but I'm
just saying that just subcats get like so well, you know,
I deal with I deal with kids, you know what
I mean. So I know all of these like kind
of dynamics and stuff like that, but some cats are
just kind of immune to roommates, is what I'm I mean.
Getting here. Here's here's what I know about him. But
that's kind of interesting though. He is from down near
where I live, in Plantation, Florida. That's where he went.
(24:10):
But he went to American Heritage. This is a really good,
prestigious high school. So hey, Brady Jonas is looking at me, like,
all right, it was one thing to come at me
on my, oh my, co're talking about it one thing
that what you just did just now I am not
okay with He's looking at me right now, like, okay,
(24:33):
well what did you did? You went from being like us,
like having a white story, then you went into somehow
talking about dudes to a bed meant really really weird.
I just I'm just saying, every once in a while,
you just gotta put add some realness to what's going on,
you know what I mean. I think that's the name
of this show, Three dudes to a bed apparent, So
(24:55):
it is. I'll kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio LaVar. Sorry,
Brady Quinn, I'm sorry. I messed us. It happens. That's
how life go sometimes. I will never derail a funny
story from Brady ever again. Hold on, hold on, hold
on real quick. You were at the Cobbine, correct, Did
you know who you roomed with? You couldn't even tell
(25:16):
you who, so you needn't know. I didn't even tell
you who I room. I don't remember who our room with, Okay,
so so you probably did at the time. I did
at the time. Yeah, I mean I was coming down
in the two thousand drive I mean, come on, that's
that's that's a while ago. Now, I don't. I don't.
Do you remember your roommate, yeah, Derris Walker, you did
say that. You did say that that stood out obviously.
(25:38):
I do not remember who my room? Who was your
room with training camp? First training camp, last Samuel's there,
you go a room with Joe Thomas, and then I
remember like that high School All American game. I remember
who my roommate was there, Lewis Aris Aim, so many guys.
Now I remember that was LaVar. I remember. I remember
(26:05):
my roommate at the Reebok All, the Tom Lemming Reebok
All American World of Sports. I remember how U do
by name? We're Ron Grant. We both went to Penn
State and we're linebackers at Penn State. So I do remember.
I do remember some things. I don't remember my Combine roommate,
though I don't do it with many Thank you, LaVar, LaVar,
(26:29):
LaVar again from post Combine. It's a great to have
LaVar joined us here. All right, it is after the
coverage the things you had discovered on this show, and
speaking of which, discovered matches all the cash back year
on your credit card at the end of your first year.
It's amazing because discovers accepted places in the U s
to state credit cards, learned more discover dot com slash
Yes two thousand, twenty one Nilson Report limitations apply. So yes,
(26:50):
Sony Michelle is now a Los Angeles Ram. That trade
was just just completed moments ago, according to reports. So
he goes from New England to l A. So he
will be a Los Angeles RAM this upcoming season Fox
Sports Radio. So we are going to get to this
story out of the world of football. There is change
that is going to be taking place here coming up
(27:11):
a very very soon. We'll get to that here. We'll
call it ten minutes from now here on FS are
just on the uh. The Sony Michelle trade is there
is the running back position, the one position in which
you can make a deal this late in in the
preseason with the season kicking off in a couple of weeks,
and there's not an issue at all, like like like
(27:32):
there's no like it seems like that and it's why
you know, drafted running backs seem to have more success.
But is this the position where you can make a
deal like this late and he'll be able to step
in and contribute right away. You got that one, Brady, Now,
I personally think so. And it's in part like, even
though there's still a lot on the running backs plate,
we tend to forget like outside of you know, them
(27:53):
running the football, it's it's more complicated than people think.
Like they're not just basically turning in a direction and
then unning right there. Still gonna read the defense up front,
you know, and an inside zone scheme or like an
inside handoff to the right that might be aiming to
hit between the guard and tackle, uh, is gonna play
out different depending on what the front and what the
(28:13):
defense is showing. So they've got to understand that in
the running game, which is kind of universal, but you're
gonna call it something different, uh, pass protections, right, they've
got to be responsible for potentially an edge defender, you know,
scanning from one side to the other, understanding you know,
when when to get out, um, all those things. So
(28:34):
it's it's there's definitely a degree of complexity to it.
But for the most part, like and I'm gonna be
honest with you, one of the best running backs in
the league that played with half the time, he never
listened to play call, we bring the huddle, and he
just go, hey man, what what do I do? And
I would just tell him. I would just literally tell
him like, hey man, it's it's this, or you know,
(28:55):
it's this running player, hey you got him to him?
Or you know, and then you're running this route like
I would just him sitting back in shotgun or once
you get frustrated. No, not at all. Who was it?
Who was it? Okay, it was Jamal Charles, but Jamal
he was usually because he ran the ball so well,
he's out of breath and he was just trying to
catch his breath and then by then by the end
(29:17):
of the no, I'm just saying I swear that was it.
It wasn't like he was he was. He would be
out of breath. He'd be like, hey man, what do
I got? What do I got? Or it'd be like
sometimes the way the huddle is too like I always
feel like the way the huddles designed, it's not designed
the proper way to let like everyone here because guys
it's a loud environment sometimes and guys are like trying
to hear what they got. So if they don't hear,
(29:38):
he knows he can always ask me afterwards, and I
told him that, so it wasn't a big deal. But um,
but but what I'm saying is it's obviously easy enough
just to tell the guy, hey, you got this, you
got that, you know, like for this guy, or you're
running this route. He was so good, man, if he'd
stay healthy, Like his stats are crazy yards per rush.
(30:01):
I mean, he was he What's crazy about him is
he was so smooth. Yeah, he was smooth. And you'd
watch him like, man, it looks like he's running that fast.
He'd be gliding past dudes and I was like, that's
just a different speed. Yeah, he was awesome. Man, if
you played fantasy football. I don't know if you guys
are in fantasy football, you know, I've been known to
dabble if you had Jamal Charles on your team, especially
(30:22):
in a PPR league. And now that we're on the subject,
by the way, between Damien Harris they drafted two years ago,
and have you guys watched Romndre Stevenson this morning, the
kid out of Oklahoma they got the Patriots. My goodness,
he's gonna be He's gonna be a problem for teams. Man.
It's Michelle the starter out and with the race Darryl
(30:43):
Henderson I think is a little bang up right. Yeah, yeah,
you gotta get him. I mean, that's why you make
this trade. This, this was a necessity move. This was
not This was not a luxury move. This this is
you are you are very very thin at the running
backs position for the Rams, and you don't want to
punt on your season. And then a in a McVeigh offense,
you gotta have a running back. You gotta have Listen,
(31:05):
you can go running backs by committee in those those
zone offenses, like we had this conversation I think last
time we were on on the show. When you have
when you have that type of zone zone blocking scheme,
you can you don't have to have a bell cow back,
but you do have to have a back that is
(31:27):
able to make things happen in the offensive scheme one
to two, maybe even you have three sometimes, so you
gotta have one. And you know, I think we all
know that the Rams have just gotten that much thinner
with the latest injury that took place. So it's I'll
kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio, Lavarrington Jonahs snocks
Brady Quimity here on fsr SO coming up next there
(31:48):
is change taking place very very soon in the world
of football. But is it as big of a deal
as many people are making it out to be. We'll
get into all of that next. Here I'll kick the
coverage Fox Sports Radio. This this is I'll kick the coverage.
I'll kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington,
Jonahs knocks Brady Quinn with you here on fs ARE.
(32:10):
We're gonna be back on the air tomorrow, same time,
same place, six am Eastern time, three o'clock Pacific Here
on Fox Sports Radio. Week zero of college football coming
up around the corner. By the way, they're gonna set
all their starters and we're gonna arrest them up for
the regularly. Well, hold on, hold on, hold on here here,
here's who I know. They can't rest them all right,
(32:32):
you can. Ken hasn't played football in two years. A right,
They're gonna rest up that start. It's been six hundred
thirty eight days since they last played a college football game.
You got I don't. I think they're well rested. I
think they're ready to go with this. You gotta arrest
him up. You gotta rest up that start. What's the
name of the start? Quarterback. Yeah, we're gonna We're gonna
(32:54):
rest him. Is he's still there? I know they've actually
got a good back, Kyle Mensa. The kids rushed from yard,
they got rested him. Rest him until they get into
you know, divisional play. What are they in the Big East?
The No, Big East doesn't anymore. I think they left
the one independent. I'd have to go back and look,
(33:15):
but yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case. It is.
By the way, I saw Yukon blow the doors off
South Carolina in a bowl game. And you should have
seen how arrogant sec South Carolina fans were at the
Papa John's Bowl only to get completely manhandled by Yukon.
And they were just shook the entire time. But if
you had to guess the spread of that Yukon game, um,
(33:37):
let's just say they're an underdog. How many points do
you think they're getting? Oh? Um, who are they playing?
Fresno Stage nineteen? Oh not bad close. That's more like
your Hawaii. Your Hawaii team they were twelve. They opened
up at twelve and a half. Hawaii was a twelve
and a half point under. It's going up in some books. Well, listen,
(34:01):
you know yeah, he's got some issues. Might be pretty
good this year. Anyway, Yukon's and a half point. You
were talking about a different game, Jesus, different games. I
mean you just have to take him at that point,
all right. I wouldn't advise that that is college though. Yeah,
(34:23):
teams get blown out. I remember when Tebow was at Florida,
they were I think it was a sixty three point
favorite over Charleston Southern. And remember we we talked about
it on the air, like, man, you know, like, don't
you have to take Charleston Southern with that many points
and Florida still covered like I think still covered, the
covered the spread. It's just like it's it's unbelievable the
(34:45):
difference in skill level and talent level between those two.
Right now, it's time for this. How could you not
get to these stories? Are there? Scraps? And for that
we turned it over to our executive producer, Danny g
to find out what the hell we've missed so far
on the show. All Right, it's stories like these that
(35:06):
make us love sports even more. You might have heard
Eddie Garcia talking about the huge night that San Francisco
Giants first baseman Brandon Belt had well. This was hours
after learning his grandmother had passed away. In fact, Belt
texted his wife and parents Tuesday telling them that he
was struggling and he didn't think that he was going
to be able to play. His dad reminded him that
(35:29):
his grandma, Margaret Peterson, would have wanted to see him
out there. I think that kind of locked me in,
Belt said, so what do you do? He only went
on to hit two home runs for San Francisco, dedicating
them and the rest of his season to his grandma's memory.
Following the Giants eight to nothing when over the Mets,
he says, I've kind of been in a day's all day.
(35:49):
He said, I just was glad I could come out
here and do that for her. And this really stands
out because he ended a two for thirty skid with
those two home runs. He also had two singles. The
second home run was his career best nineteenth of the season.
I couldn't help but feel like something powerful was at
play there when he hit that first home run. Giants
manager Gabe Kapler said, that's awesome. That's a that's a
(36:13):
cool story, and and for grandma. For grandma, and I
also think it's better. What was your grandma? Did she
ever have any traditions that you guys remember, because I
remember my grandma every year for our birthday always gave
us a five dollar bill. I don't know for some reason,
it was just always a five dollar bill. Then I
gave us care packages with with with party, socks, underwear,
(36:37):
Avon products because she was an Avon late so you
had you had to roll on deodoran. You know, my
grandma Peg, we used to call her Grandma Keg because
maybe we used our house when she big case before. Anyway,
believe that my cousin, my cousins and I would open
(37:00):
up our Christmas gift and only one of us would
do it because we all knew everyone else got the
same thing, just a different color. And it was usually
some sort of clothes or sweats or whatever. But one
odd thing always happened. There was always there's never a
pair of socks. It was just a sock, Like every
single year, somehow she would lose a sock or I
(37:20):
don't know if she tried to buy them up for
It was the weirdest thing. But people, we always ended
up opening up a gift. You'd have like a shirt,
maybe some sweatpants or something, and then a sock. Nothing else.
But maybe maybe she was seen it in the future.
She was something I don't want anyway. Not there. I'm
(37:41):
not going there with grandma keg I'm not doing it. Nope,
I'll do it either. Man. You guys have some good
grandma memories. Mine just sent me into the kitchen to
find the biggest wooden spoon possible because I was in.
You look like a get spake. By the way, Brandon
Belt's grandma helped fun his endeavors in baseball early on
(38:02):
his family was poor. She helped fund his travel team
and buy all the baseball gear that he needs. Very cool. Cool.
We'll go from a memorial to new life. Monday was
Kobe's birthday. Yesterday was Kobe Day because it was twenty
four on the calendar. The twenty year Laker legend, of course,
(38:23):
made a name for himself and not one, but two
jerseys eight and twenty four. So to honor Kobe, the
Lakers and u ce l A Health join forces to
givet newborn families born on the three number eight baby
beanies Laker baby blankets and three adult number twenty four
Kobe t shirts too. For family members and the last
(38:44):
one for the baby to grow into. U. C. L
A says life is unpredictable, but the Lakers will always
be a constant. I mean, how do you know that
Clipper fans they were Laker fans. Just wait, wait, say
this again. So baby is born on thee because that's
(39:07):
Kobe's birthday. Okay, I was gonna say, you know what,
it was making me think Lebron he couldn't just let
Kobe have that spotlight and so maybe he was trying
to slide in, but they did. But they did slide in.
Lakers are forever at the end of it, by the way. Okay,
so so what do you think they do say a
baby is born on the at like twelve o one am, Like,
(39:32):
we're just gonna pushed and this should have pushed. I
got that's that's the Clipper fact. These happy hour prices,
you know what's come out? No happy's valid to take
(39:58):
it out of here, nine o puss. There are some
pretty cool pictures on the Lakers Instagram and Twitter accounts
with the families and the T shirts and the babies
wrapped up in the Lakers blankets has tag Lakers. Yeah
(40:19):
you're not y'are not picking up on that. Yeah, I mean,
let's you know, we go back it was a Clippers fan. Yeah,
I'm just saying that. You know, they just be like, yeah,
I don't want to even Clipper fans can appreciate the
greatness of the Black Mamba. Yeah. Man, well, let's just
keep it genuine. Let's not get disingenuous. A quote what
the Lakers are forever? Like? How about Kobe is forever? How? Yeah?
(40:42):
I mean I just thinking out loud, you know, but
that's just me Kobe. You uh, and you still don't
believe that he fully tours Achilles and came back out.
I mean, if he fully tour that, that boy he
is he is as bad a dude as you could
ever imagine, if he was able to get up and
walk and shoot. We will be back tomorrow here six
am Eastern time, right here at Fox Sports Radio. Be
