(00:26):
We're gonna take you all the way up until nine
am Eastern times six o'clock Pacific right here on Fox
Sports Radio. And college football is here, LaVar Arrington, College
football is here. Now we are working in efforting connecting
with the great Brady Quinn. He is in Minnesota as
foxes there for the Ohio State Minnesota game to open
(00:47):
up the season coming up eight Eastern time on Fox.
Gets front row seats, no kidding to the dopes games
every weekend. Unfortunately, he's gonna sit with a couple of
USC trojan that's a problem. And yeah, but you know
what you get front like them dudes are front and center.
I went to the Ohio State Penn State game one
(01:09):
year and and did did some work for for Fox
and just to see the setup that they'd be having
on the on their show man's man. And if you've
ever seen Fox. And this isn't just you know, we're
trying to ball wash Fox because it's Fox. But if
you've ever seen Fox or a setup and the way
they do things, the presentation is top notch. Dope. I
(01:30):
remember I went out for when the Cubs were in
the World Series. I went out there and just was
hanging out in in and it wasn't even they weren't
even there yet. Fox wasn't even calling the games for
Wrigley Field. They had they had the stage set up,
and it was it was immaculate. It was. It was
(01:51):
to know, almost almost it was immaculate here on Fox
Sports Radio. Just just how the stage, the presentation, all
of that was really really impressive and well done by
Fox all the way through. Super almost impressive almost it
definitely was almost. But but nonetheless, ladies and gentlemen, Brady
Quinn is with us here on Fox Sports Radio. You know,
(02:15):
you say Fox enough and next thing you know, you know,
you kind of you kind of slip up there, so
you say Fox and amazing many times it can get
it does. Think it's a little icy, but nonetheless, uh,
broad Minnesota, Minnesota's great. I don't know what room I'm
in right now, I'm in someone else's room. I feel
like I'm actually talking about someone else's asleep in the
(02:36):
bed behind me. But yeah, we made it work. We
trust me. There were so many hurdles and trying to
make this happen right now, Hell, we made it happen.
Minnesota is fantastic. We're actually we're up, We're live. There
is uh I don't know who that is behind me,
but we just call the show. Are you doing the show?
(03:00):
From a people? Is happening? Have you had Brady? Have
you had a fox amazing time? Foxing? I kind of
Foxing amazing time. I'm trying to I'm trying to explain
how amazing the Fox set is. And you know, sometimes
you know the the the the X is in the season,
(03:20):
the case that kind of rolled together, you know what
I mean. So, so, uh Liner has a buddy who's
a uh let's put it this way. He's very well off,
and we were like, okay, alright, cool, yeah, he must
have a private party. Okay, castle it's not. It's actually
(03:43):
someone who's a close to a billionaire. So so we
end up going to this party and we're like, we're
not sure what to expect. It's a party where, like
you know, sometimes sometimes a party they run out like
a private room at Capital Girl Music. Sure that there's
there's master covid. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah. So
(04:10):
we get there, I'm like no, no no, no. He read
out the entire building, the entire Capital Grill. We're like, oh,
all right, Like how big is this party? Gonna get
every single painting in this Capital Grill? Yes? And and
it actually had like people he knew, like their their
(04:31):
faces were painted on the painting doing different things. So well,
it was like like like like like coach Stoops and
another prominent um college football player were like on top
of Matt Liner, who was the face of this other figure,
(04:51):
And it almost looked like it was a scarface picture.
We're like they're stopping him out on the ground. There
was another one where Matt and I were in a
limo with a bunch of people. It looked like having
a good time, but every single painting in this restaurant
was changed two faces of like people from our big
(05:12):
new kickoff, people who this particular individual knew. I mean,
it was it was unlike anything I've ever seen before.
I thought we were walking into like a little like
a little private room. We're gonna have a chance to
watch you a b. Jacksonville State, by the way, gave
some awful betting advice to the tail that one. Um yeah, yeah, world, Yeah,
(05:32):
you may be crushed there. It was. It was quite
the It was quite the night or evening, I'll put
it that way. As far as the festivities to kick
off the season, nobody, nobody we know is listening to
the show right this moment. So can you give us
like the honest like rundown. I still haven't give us
the honest rundown of it. They rented the entire building,
(05:55):
but we're still we're still just talking about the cast.
We haven't talked about the mean Yeah, what are we
talking about? Yeah? Can you give us some real talk
on morning radio? Who were the stunt that let me?
Let me? Responded up by said yes, yes, yes, yea, yeah,
I knows asking what LaVar is asking college football's back
(06:18):
trying to get on that show. This rust we trust
is LaVar. I wasn't pretty enough to get on that.
Let's hit. The request mns were a little bit too
high for me. They said, the stick from the stradio.
You have a faith for radio you go to Happy Valley.
Lavars with us. He's here. It's happening a whole entire thing.
I don't know about Jonas, I can't speak for him,
(06:39):
but lavars here. It's happening. Yeah, it is. It is
going to happen. Now, let me we were just talking
about this a little bit before the show, and some
other things we'll get into, but we were talking about
this a little bit before the show. I'm curious and
I would love to know how much last year and
COVID had an impact on teams like Minnesota, who's playing tonight,
(07:00):
also Penn State, because I don't know, if you look
at it and just go, well, you know it was
an aberration. This is COVID, But we forget the Minnesota
was an eleven win team two years ago. I mean,
they were a really good football team. And the fact
that Ohio State's got to open up there, I'm assuming
full capacity right Like, we're going to see fans filled
with the brand there, so we haven't seen that in
a long time. I just wonder, this feels like this
(07:22):
could be more of a dicey matchup for Ohio State
to open up the air, Like this feels like it
could be a sneaky problem for them. No, I feel
like this is actually the exact o fair enough. I
would say this much, I would lay the points all right.
I think this is gonna be dangerous for starters everything.
We were thirteen and a half looking about the points. Yeah,
(07:46):
I think it was something like that. There was a
lot of former Ohio State Buckeyes who were here and
they were looking at getting down alright, having a good time,
if you know what I mean what I mean, if
you know what I mean, I mean for real, Like
if you don't Raymond Harris remember him? Yeah, Chicago Bank,
(08:07):
trust me, you wouldn't forget about your last night. But
in all seriousness, like they're all here. That's how Ohio
State travels. I wouldn't be shocked the stadium is not
Ohio State Minnesota fans, And I'll be honest with you,
I think Ohio State will beat the breaks off of
(08:29):
Minnesota tonight. I really do. I mean, they're just that
much better than everyone else in the big tent in Minnesota.
And they have been. Yeah, you know, Day has yet
to lose a conference game. That's that's that's that is astonishing.
You're in the tent and you have yet to lose
(08:50):
a conference game. Okay, let me ask you this, how
how much a part of the recruiting when when Urban
Meyer was there was Ryan Day Because they always talk
about all right, well, once you're once urban guy, urban
guys leave, then then then we gotta see what Ryan
Day is really capable of. How much was he responsible
for some of the recruiting because if this continues. I
have a guy by the name of Larry Johnson, Sr.
(09:11):
And you may recognize the name because of his child,
But hey, where was he before? Yeah, he was at
our school and we used to be we are and
we used to beat Ohio State when he was at
Penn State. So but he is the secret wepping weapon
in the recruiting, in the recruiting battles, like if you're
(09:33):
going to win, you have to be able to win
against Larry Johns said the same thing about that Orizon
at USC that he was the guy, and uh, yeah,
Well the thing about it is what Ohio State seems
to do every single year that generally, in some type
of way kind of flies under the radar. Is they
build from their their line of scrimmages. Their offensive line
(09:57):
is always over like over empowering big strong dudes. And
then their defensive line is the same exact thing, but
with amazing skill and amazing talent, and that becomes the problem.
The problem is that they have skilled players. They get
(10:18):
skilled players. Other teams in the Big Ten are able
to get skilled players like you can find skilled players
scattered all across the Big Ten. In fact, the leading
rusher and the ten is on Minnesota's team, not on
Ohio States team. But what happens is is that you
get into a game with Ohio State, and when it's
(10:39):
seemingly could be one of those games where it's a
good game, it's a competitive game, they just wear you down.
They just continue to wear you down. And then they
have that talent where like you know, they boast maybe
the best receiving corps and the entire fcs this year,
and and so when you're talking about what they bring
to the table, you're able to move on from adjustin
(11:03):
fields and put a stroud in and still have the
same type of success because those guys up front take
off all the pressure that's on you to perform. It's
like you find yourself settling into a relaxed situation to
deliver what you need to deliver, and it always seems
to to to win. It always seems to win out
(11:28):
the power of their fronts. And that's just kind of
what I've I've grown to see and watching Ohio State
through this, this these years of dominance. Yeah, they're they're awesome.
And then we've talked to Brady and I've talked about
it just work in the Sunday Show where every time
they would play Michigan over the past several years. You know,
it was so evident when you you don't need to
know a damn thing about football xs and ohs, you
(11:50):
just watch them on the field. Ohio State just has
better players, like they just they look faster, they look
they looked more like an SEC team than they did
a big end team, especially when faster, stronger. Yes, and
it was so obvious when you watched them. So is
that is that how this is gonna play out? We're
gonna see just a bigger, faster, stronger team coming up
later on tonight as you continue to kill the dreams
(12:12):
of Minnesota go for football fans, Brady Quinn, is that
what we're gonna see? Everyone's been so nice here at
all that Minnesota and I saw that. Yeah, they've all
been really nice until what's gonna happen tonight. Okay, I'll
put it that way. Don't want to kill joy. My
My prediction is Ohio State wins by at least twenty eight.
(12:32):
I think the spread is like it's like fourteen. I
think they went by double that. It's it's it's gonna
be that big of a difference. To Lavarre's point, the
offensive line up front, you look at their defensive front.
They've got two of probably the best edge rushers who
are gonna mix and we'll see what they have in
(12:52):
Jack Sawyer jay Z. I think it's I think it's
pronounced tweet or something like that. They just rotating rotation,
he's coming. Pascal Garrett's there on the inside. He's a
really good player. And then their wide receivers are probably
the top six who will play in the game. Six
(13:13):
cover How do you that's the thing. How do you cover? They?
I don't know, because they can't play, man, that's not
gonna work. They can't play covered players, and that's what
they play. Like you you're you got problems, man. You
gotta hope that c. J. Stroud has like food poisoning
and then the rest of the rest of the Ohio
State quarterbacks do to one thing that even exaggerating, the
(13:35):
one thing to pay attention to is Minnesota does have
a senior offensive front. So in college it's very you
don't come across senior lat and you know units a lot,
so so having a top rusher, having a senior led
offensive front, if they can establish the run, and if
(13:58):
they can control the ball, if they can make this
an ugly game and not try to turn it into
attract me try to keep up, they won't be able
to keep up. Pretty much. The only chance you're going
to have against this Ohio State team, and my estimation
is you're gonna have to be able to establish a
ground game and that's gonna be very difficult to do.
(14:18):
But when you look at this, here's here's what Minnesota
does have working on their side. It is the first
game of the year, and most times, more often than not,
you will have powerhouse teams working to get get the
kinks out, so to speak, you know, work some of
the rust off of the off season, so to speak,
and and really get themselves ready to go into conference play.
(14:41):
By the fourth game of the year, so to see
them come out and some some teams do take big
games on in the first week, um, just based off
of the you know, the rankings and different things like that.
But if there were a moment in time where a
team could be susceptible and could be vulnerable to something
taking place, it would be week one against the team.
(15:04):
So it's interesting. This is a conference game and you
know that it's a conference game right out of the gate. Uh.
I think it will be high energy. I think it
will be high impact. I do believe it. Being in
Minnesota does work to the advantage of Minnesota coming into
this game. And if they're able to control what's going
(15:25):
on early on in the game, it could be a
pretty good game to watch, and I'm excited to watch it.
It could be a competitive game. But all in all,
if you're looking at it from a conventional scope, it
does look like it will be a dominant You'll see
a dominant performance out of Ohio state. It is. I'll
kick the coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. If there
are any Minnesota listeners laugh to trust us, it's gonna
(15:47):
get better, all right, the next the next couple of hours,
we'll get better. We will shine a spotlight on the
beautiful state of Minnesota. Also the juicy Lucy some of
the other greatness from in the state there. Uh So,
I don't lose faith in us here as you and
make sure you check out Foxing. Awesome. It's a wonderful show.
Is it? Absolutely is? Oh man, this this is out kicked.
(16:11):
The coverage college football is here. It is back. We've
got Brady Quinn live on location in Minnesota for the
Ohio State buck Eys Minnesota Golfers game coming up later
on tonight. Yea, Minnesota, are you gonna get a change?
How is that racist against Minnesota? That's how they talk.
I have family from Illinois to talk like this sometimes
(16:34):
that they do rais Chicago. They talk like this. Sometimes
your Bears fan sucks for you. Are you in New York?
This is New York and Chicago. Okay, this is all right.
This is a true story. A guy called in. A
guy called in on Fox Sports radio years ago, and
(16:54):
he said, a guy calls it as a true story,
calls in Fox Sports Radio years ago. He goes, uh,
he goes, hey, I hear the studios are out there
in California. You guys, you guys are you surfers? And like, no,
not not really goes. Yeah, well, I hear out there.
You guys hang ten out here in Chicago, we hang
a leapon. Just let's sen they're making great jokes on
(17:16):
the air, LaVar, what's all that grow off? All right?
So I would like to correct strike two hour to
strike two I didn't make I'm just waking such an
one whatever. I'm repeating the joke, all right. Do you
want to do it? Do you want to do a
Pittsburgh accent? Uh, don't worry the rats give me give
(17:39):
me strike one. We get strike one. Man, I can't wait.
I can't wait this game. I get that sound bite
on strike one. Please got this rat? It's nine? There
is there is it? Is it? Not? There? The foxing amazing? Yeah, listen,
you know the stage set up and it was yaculate.
(18:02):
Yeah did you Brady? Yeah? Yeah, Joan is like talking
over because he didn't what he didn't watch. We didn't
want you to hear what happened, Jonas. I was trying
to say fox and you know it just sometimes you know, yeah,
(18:22):
it just you know the words could it's happened before
I've done before muck muck of the mud, you know,
and it's done it before saying Fox and muck and
you know it all. I've done it before. It just
you say Fox, and I've also I've also gotten close
to saying Jonas Fox on Knox Sports Radio, Like that's
almost happened several times. You know it. Just look, we're
(18:44):
you know the real words smith over. The funny thing
is is that we both heard you and we looked
at each other and it was like do we want
to dump it? Like we don't? Even like I really
should have just hit it, like I should have been
protecting you and hit it way before you do you
have the dumping authority? Are you part of the dumping?
I mean it's right in front of us. I mean,
(19:05):
you gotta take care of one another. I can't go.
Let's give me the Yeah, I could have dumped it,
but I was looking at him like, I'm like Gardner
mits you waiting to wait to be not number two.
That's that is a good point. I just want to
because it wasn't Brady. Let's say this right. It wasn't
all the way defined. He didn't bake it all the
way out. It was it was definitely a half baked one.
(19:29):
So it was kind of like, I don't know because
on replay during the break he got the beginning of
the yeah yeah, yeah, he did get to see he
did hit the sea. But it is good. We're thinking
about it an hour later. I think that's important. But
the look about you rash behind the stop. We could
(19:52):
play that game. You crap missed on your hat. It's
a good jump for radio to my radio there. Yeah,
you need the kiss. Jonas is wearing a green trucker's
cap that says carp Yeah, Carpenderia. It's a small town
out here, and now you don't California. Yeah, a little Carpenderia.
(20:16):
We did have a trust exercize, though, and I feel
I feel like I failed you. Everybody has because the
du the dumb button is closer to me than it
is to you, and we looked at each other like
should we dump it? It was clearly a moment of
truth and I failed you, and you were like, are
you not going to hit it? Are you not? I'm
going to hit it? Yeah you know, but but again,
(20:36):
you know what it happened. What was the point of
hitting it. We're gonna play time afterward, just know not
to get in trouble when you're with me for the
production crew here, we're just going to look at you
and be like, I know you just did something bad,
but you know, I don't know. I'm supporting you by
looking at you, but I'm not going to do anything
to help you. By the way, I do want to.
(20:56):
I would like to correct a mistake. Not that mistake,
because it's already We've already played that so many times.
I would like to correct a mistake. We said d
Nucci was the quarterback the Patriots signed to their practice squads. Uh,
it was Garrett Gilbert. So I would apologize to the
Gilbert family and the Nucci family. Yeah. Yeah, definitely not
(21:17):
going to be doing that. Um, you know, you know
he's not gonna be playing at home Week one of
the season. The New Orleans Saints. Yeah, they are moving
the game to Jacksonville. That was a big time late
afternoon window game Packers Saints on Fox, and now because
of the hurricane and the damage. Because of the hurricane,
they're gonna have to be moving that game to Jacksonville
(21:37):
to open up the season. And this just feels like
when you're doing a change over to a quarterback and
you've got this whole new era starting and then before
it even gets started, you lose a home game in
a seventeen game season. This feels like New Orleans is
already screwed to start off. The air man first and
foremost thoughts and prayers out to the families affected by
(21:58):
by the bad weather. Um. But yeah, I mean you're
talking about a team that that's trying to figure it out.
It's it's post Drew Brees, uh error that's getting underway.
You have a home game scheduled, and if you understand
uh New Orleans Saints culture, Uh, it's a very difficult
(22:19):
place to to It's a hostile environment to go in
and win and play. So that that does. You know,
some teams do have home field advantages and and you
would have to say New Orleans is one of those
teams that has a home field advantage when you play them,
so to be and in a in a way environment
and an away setting um to start off the year.
(22:41):
And then obviously there are the you know, the questions
as to how good can this team be? You know,
you have spension on defense side of the ball, too,
key key defense, a lineman, you have the key injury
on the offensive side of the ball. Um you have
a new starter and Jamis Winston, what can he do?
(23:04):
They're just a lot of questions surrounding this team, and
then to add them being displaced like this and and
having to to borrow space to to play, you know,
the start of the season. You know they can react
and handle it a couple of different ways, but you can't.
You can't assume that it's the easiest. Brady, No. I mean, look,
you would have had a huge home field advantage, something
(23:26):
they really haven't had for a couple of years. Now.
You look at Jacksonville, and I gotta be honest with you,
there are probably be more green Bay Packers fans of
that game. Like the Midwest, green Bay probably has more
transplants or people who are willing to go to Jacksonville.
Then there are people who are are coming out of
(23:47):
the woodwork and just to go to New Orleans. And
so that's that that, in my mind's the biggest difference
is it plays a huge advantage now of the Packers.
Whereas you might have said the field was even with
the home field advantage, Jamis Winston starting Taysom Hill coming
in kind of as that Swiss Army knife. Now I
(24:07):
feel like it's tilted in the favor of Green Bay.
And and that's that's the unfortunate part I think for
Sean Payton and Saints fans is you know, there's nothing
you can do about it. And as Lavre said, like
thoughts and thoughts and prayers, MA, I mean, obviously there's
a lot of people without power, a lot of people
without basic necessities, flooding, etcetera. Um, and and so this
(24:27):
kind of feels like it's like, you know, secondary to
what we really should be talking about. Course, um, it's
it's green Bay has got a huge advantage now and
and not that not like they needed it in the
first place, but unfortunately, like that's that's how it is.
And and we'll see if if New Orleans whenever they
come back, if if they can rally around this maybe
(24:51):
as a way of you know, helping people and promoting
what they've done to help people. But it's a tough
situation I think for New Orleans to be in, and
obviously for Green Bay, you gotta feel ecstatic. I mean,
you're you're playing in Jacksonville, where you're you're gonna have
a bunch of beer drinking brought worst eating. You know,
(25:11):
people having fun, hanging out in the pool there in Jacksonville,
hanging on that hotel top deck pool man a little
Marco Polocksonville, Georgia. Right, yeah, right, Um, here's here's the
other thing. Now I do have a glimmer of hope,
all right, but yeah, here here's the here's the other
(25:34):
thing that I would point out. So they've got a
bye week in week six, so you're already starting off
on the road, and you've already been you know, moved
around because of the hurricane and all that that's going on.
And I agree with you. I think it's gonna be
majority Packers fans because, look, people in New Orleans got
bigger problems on their hands. They're not worried about whether
they're not they're getting to a game in Jacksonville. So
(25:55):
I agree it's gonna be a massive advantage for for
the Green Bay Packers there neutral site, whatever you want
to call it. I think it's probably gonna be six
Packer fans, if not more, that are going to be
at that game. Here's the other thing. With the early
by week in week six and the extra week on
the season, that means New Orleans is going to go
(26:15):
a day shy of three months without a week off
to finish off the season after starting the year with
all of this going on. This feels like this could
set them up for failure moving forward. Man, Like, this
is a this is a problem to me. Yes, the
optics of it are are certainly challenging and look look
(26:37):
to be you know, tough, tough thoughts to to overcome.
But again I would I would urge people to to
look at this New Orleans Saints team and and understand
that they do have strong leadership. So if if there's
an organization, if there's a coach that you know and
on the list of coaches and staff that can you know,
(27:00):
keep a team together, pull pull a team together and
pull them through or or help guide them through a
moment in time like this, you'd have to say Sean
Payton is one of those guys that's on those that
that list of coaching. Michael Thomas clear of that, yeah,
Michael Thomas, Yeah, Yeah, he's probably a leader. He's just
you know, just it's just not showing. It's not showing.
(27:21):
It's not showing up in the med it's not showing
up misunderstood. What do you mean he's got an injury.
It's coming back from injury right now. That could be
a you know, a great turning point for this team
when when Michael Thomas comes back. I mean, depending on
how James is playing. You know, why does he do this?
I don't know. I don't know. I'm just saying, like
(27:42):
you know, he's, you know, clear leader of that team.
That's why, you know, got the Can I be honest
with so quick? I feel like you two had a
bonding moment, like like over that dumb button situation. It
was like a galvetizing momentship. I feel like I let
him down. Who hit the button? That's what I said,
don't ever get in trouble in front of me, like
(28:03):
you found out what type of dude? Like you know,
I won't snitch on you? Like I'm sitting there looking
at I knew I should have hit it immediately, but
I looked at you first, like what should we do?
But you looked at me and you were like what
should we do? Did I say it? And I'm looking
at you like I think you said and then and
then the radio and then we're looking at each other like,
well we only have like maybe two three more seconds
(28:25):
before it really matters in terms of what we got
going on here. And and then the radio professional in
me I kicked in and I you jumped on, Yeah,
to make it happen, you know, That's that's how this works.
I don't want to waste my dump button hits on you.
I would rather like to say from me, it's shown's
a quick twitch athlete, or was a little more slow
(28:47):
twitched that it was a panic twitch, which is generally
which is generally a quick twitch reflex. Yeah, it was quick,
like he knew he was running out of time, like
the count down was on. And the great part is
an hour later it's still going on. Why Why are
you so worried about it? That was you. You find
(29:11):
out in the heat of the moment, whether or not
you got dogs or whether or not you got rass
around you. I came up short. I can't even lie.
I came up short. But I wasn't the one that
was going to be in trouble, so I was okay
with I was I was a battrack. I was uncomfortable
for you, and you're well fair and well being. But
(29:32):
can I can I provide I can I provide one
piece of hope and tell me, tell me if you
guys think I'm nuts on this, all right, does the
humidity in Jacksonville early in the season, just to hear
me out, does it benefit the Saints more so than
the Packers and we'll have an impact on the game.
(29:52):
Is that the one glimmer of hope humid in Green Bay? Okay,
so just say no? Is no, no, it would be
an option. I haven't haven't no. I'm just trying to
point out the obvious of Like you go in the Midwest,
the humiding the summertime is really high. It's one of
the reasons why when I when I injured my foot,
I went and rehabbed in South Florida that I was like, oh,
(30:15):
this would be a good spot to train for the
off season because when I go back up in training camp,
it's hot, humid, probably even a little bit more so
than what is in Cleveland. And honestly, it's it's a
it's pretty comparable, like both places are really hot human
in the summertime. So sure, but I don't think it
plays any advantage. I think both teams are going to
(30:37):
be in for it. I'm just trying to figure out
whether I will say, well, I do believe this will
be a competitive game. I don't think, by any stretch
of imagination, we should write the Saints off because of
everything that's going on. I think the difference is who's
wearing what jerseys? That that because I'll tell you this much.
Because he went to Tampa too, and they made us
(30:58):
swear when I was in Kansas City were red jerseys.
I was like, Oh, this doesn't make that big of it.
The swamp. As I was dying, I was dying. I
told our center and half to change your pants. Just
change your pants. He was like, Ryan, change the pants.
And you got to, Man, it's too sweaty. It's it's
(31:22):
a problem. Do you realize that was why I didn't
want to be a quarterback. I did not want to
go under center. I did it one time and I
was so I was so weird. It out bad. I
just I was like, I just got to play a
different positions. Yeahld On, was it like an experience did
one time? You're like, I was weird. I just didn't
like it happened. It was strange. Yeah, it was. It
(31:44):
was under center. One of the you know, what do
you mean that is uh loves wing to the guy.
Why don't you mean we're doing a shotgun. Yeah, we're
like on top of Matt Liner. I mean like on
(32:06):
top of that. I mean listen. I'll tell you, man, look,
you don't know who to trust in this place, all right,
come out of nowhere. You never know who to trust,
all right? It is that I'll kick the Fox Sports
media coverage. Jonahs knocks Brady Quinn, LaVar Arrington with you
here on fs ARE. This is out kicked the coverage. Hey,
(32:38):
this is Jason McIntyre. Joined me every weekday morning on
my podcast Straight Fired with Jason McIntyre. This isn't your
typical sports pod pushing the same tired narratives down your
throat every day. Straight Fire gives you honest opinions on
all the biggest sports headlines, accurate stats to help you
win big at the sports book, and all the best guests.
(32:58):
Do yourself a favorite and too. Straight Fired with Jason
McIntyre on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast or
wherever you get your podcasts. Man, I guess we forgot
we came full man, Ben and Jenner back together though, Yeah,
(33:20):
I know that's a little outdated. Isn't it. By the way,
maybe tomins Bill will get back together eventually. If you're
that's a good point. Yeah good. If you're listening to
the podcast, I have no idea what song this is.
It's some jay Z song being lost one cool because
I don't know what the jay Z was racist. It
(33:46):
was your tone, yeah, dismissing music Z the accusations. What's
jay Z? Is that? Even it's been a quite a
quite an up and down show for john A very
emotionally so for yeah, folks, the cheese is still out.
(34:11):
I see the zerra just looking around, looking around here, uh,
coming up top of next hour. It is a really
gutsy move in the world of football. We will get
into that for you here top of next our little
over ten minutes from now on. Fs are So remember
when urban Meyer came out and said that, you know,
(34:32):
vaccinations would factor in to a whether or not a
player would be cut, you guys, remember that urban Meyer
kind of stepping a little Yeah. Well, now the the
Jacksonville Jaguars have come out with a statement saying no, no, no, no, no, listen,
that is not the case, not the case whatsoever. Unfortunately, No,
that is that is not true. That is not the
(34:52):
way we look at this whole thing. So the Jacksonville
Jaguars trying to uh cover up things, LaVar trying to
make make things nice with the NFL p A that
don't worry. We're running a tight ship over here, everybody,
and nothing not to worry here when it comes to
the Jaguars. Yeah, those liability issues become become a real thing,
you know what I mean. And there are a lot
(35:13):
of people that could possibly create something out of nothing
based off of that. And and not to mention you
do not want to get caught up in the cancel
culture either. You know, it's a very real thing. So
there's the legal aspect of it and and and how
that could be handled by the p A, but it's
also the public court of opinions. Jacksonville can't afford to
(35:36):
take any type of public hits like that, if you
ask me, Brady. So you got to be very careful
and and how your public persona plays out, especially with
having a new guy that you hope is someone who
can not only bring you UH wins, but can bring
you also relevance and popularity in urban meyer availability. I
(35:57):
think what's the word that is availability that was the
word to use, which is I mean it's the appropriate word.
I mean, no exactly. Like here's what I don't like.
I don't like how the media always condemns people for
not being truthful, yet when they all her yet they
(36:19):
face the repercussions, they don't have their back, you know
what I'm saying, Like, this is an instance where he
was kind of honest and and now they've made a
statement to kind of backtrack, hopefully off of that and
the investigation from the nfl p A. But the hard
part is, like, even from if the NFL p A
does an investigation, would you have to do one on
(36:41):
all thirty one teams? Like how would you just be
able to say, well, the Jacksonville Jaguars, they specifically looked
at guys who were vaccinated versus those who weren't vaccinated,
and that's how they made their decision. Well what you
have to go, well, how does that compare to the
rest of the market, Like, how is that compare to
the rest of the NFL. If we're gonna condemn the Jaguars,
(37:04):
you have to condemn all authority one other teams if
that happened to be the case, I just I can't
stand how the media looks at urban Meyer and goes, well,
you know, we're appreciative of you being honest in the
first place, but now we're going to run it everywhere
to the point where you get an investigation or you're
not gonna have his back. You're not gonna say, well,
(37:26):
he was saying that what every other coach and general
manager is already having a conversation about. They just haven't
said it publicly. Right, it's the most discriminatory, one of
the most discriminatory professions. I mean, from the time you
come in, you gotta drop your draws, everything can take
your clothes off. They want to know, they want to see.
(37:47):
They want to test every every injury, every joint, every
in anything, based upon what your ability to perform is
based upon your availability everything. It's all production, it's all
descripted like you're going to to break it down to
the minute detail in the National Football League. So so
(38:07):
it's just interesting that it's it's like you can pick
and choose when discriminating is a problem, versus when it's not.
If you're not available, they're going they are going to
make decisions based off of your availability. If you're not healthy,
they're going to make their decisions off of if you're healthy.
That's just the that's the nature of the business. So
(38:29):
there's no reason to get sensitive about it. And in
a moment where we're talking about something as it applies
to an illness, well, but the problem Brady and I've
talked about this. Don't you get the feeling? And we say,
Albert Briery this last week. The media doesn't like urban Meyer.
They don't like them, so they're looking for the want
to like. They don't want to like because they don't
know them. It's like the NFL reporters want to have
(38:50):
their cushy people they know and not build a new relationship.
I get that sense. Sometimes it is very like urban
Meyer as Yeah, I like him over six and a
half wins this year, I'll tell you that right now. Yeah,
that damn right. This this is outkack. The coverage we
(39:11):
are going to get into in the scraps coming up
in about five minutes from now, A very very shrewd
strategy by somebody in the world of sports. I'm gonna
try this. I think it's gonna be very effective. We
will get into that here coming up again a little
over five minutes from now. You know it's it's a tease,
you know, a little bit of a tease. Yeah, I
figured why not and when when you hear it, it
(39:33):
does make some sense. But unfortunately he's getting getting crushed
by a lot of people who thinks it's uh. I
think it's a little bit of a scam that's going on.
So again, yeah, um, by the way, how about Brian
floor As we got back to back days, Brian Flores
has stepped out and showing support for two, a tug
of byla publicly. How about that? Because that will erase
the memories of him benching him on the road last
(39:54):
year multiple times. I'm just saying, like, I'm just saying,
how about showdases to his dad like he's so protective
over I'm not. I just I'm just you know, I
look at it and I go, I mean, come on, man,
like he SE's supporting him publicly. I get all that.
But you know, the rumors are out there, The Deshaun
Watson stuff is out there. And you know when when
(40:15):
two has been benched and the Dolphins are always the
team rumor at anytime there's a quarterback. Look, there was
a lot of people thought they might take a quarterback
this year. Like, I mean, so it's not like you know,
to should be all that confident heading into the season.
But whether true or not in his support of Ta,
whether genuine or disingenuous, it still creates a smoke screen,
(40:37):
right yeah, I mean if you didn't learn that from
his his coaching tree roots, Uh, Like we thought for
certain that the love affair and and the respect factor
that Belichick had for for Cam was going to play
out in him having the opportunity to start the season
until Mac took the job. And you wouldn't have thought
(41:01):
by the way Belichick spoke on Cam during this this
preseason that this was going to happen. So I just
think that whether again, whether genuine or disingenuous, Uh, whatever's
gonna happen, is going to happen when it's going to happen,
And if it doesn't happen, then you never knew it
was going to happen. If that makes sense to anybody else, Well,
(41:21):
I think the other thing is you you kind of
have to support your quarterback going into the season, right Like,
even if to uh was to not be the guy
for whatever reason, don't you feel like as a head coach,
you have to with everything else that's being set out there,
whether it's true or not, at least tell your team that, like,
(41:42):
this is the guy, right, I mean, in order to
give him the best shot to showcase what he's capable of.
You got you gotta buy in. You've got you gotta
have a head coach who buys in or at least
says he does until until you don't all the way
like and I mean all the way up until you don't, like,
not close to it, because things can go wrong in
(42:05):
the last hours, right, Like you could you could be
in that that that final that final stage of it
and you start talking about it and you let it
out and everybody's hearing about it, and then it doesn't
go through. Right, So you gotta make sure you're protecting
the interest of what what the emotional and mental stability
of of the you know, kind of the dynamic of
(42:27):
what your team is holding, the culture of what your
team is holding. Because in the end, if you lose
that trust that they always call it lose the locker room.
You always hear before coach loses his job, you always
hear the people talk about he's lost the locker room.
If you lose the locker room, then there's really you're
really on your way out. So you don't you don't
(42:49):
ever want burn bridges with guys who are working for
you every day to to appease or appeal to somebody
that isn't even there yet. You. I mean, because he's
been this publicly supportive of tou if an offer popped
up and it was for Deshaun Watson, and that could
be a like like like, how does he come back
(43:12):
to to and say, hey, listen, you know, here's what
we got, because he would have to be included in
that trade, because there's no way you prepare that right
after he comes out this publicly supports him, if something
like that popped up and there was an opportunity to
land to Shaun Watson, not saying it's gonna happen, just
to simple what if scenario, it's hard. It's hard to
walk that one back, correct, I mean you can't, you
(43:35):
cannot walk that one bad. But but but that being said,
there's always going to be the caveat of saying, well,
when we feel the best of our team, right like
they always have that mods for to go buy So
I guess that's the ace in your back pocket that
you're gonna bring out when you eventually have to or
need to. It is out Keep the Coverage here Fox
(43:56):
Sports Radio, LaVar Rington, Brady Quinn, Jonas knock with you
here on fs ARE coming up in fifteen minutes from now.
Here on fs ARE, there's a quarterback who wants to
revenge on an NFL coach. Alright, so a little bit
of vengeance possibly. We'll have that story for you here
fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio. Right now, though,
it's time for something we do on the show called
this How could you not get to? These stories are
(44:22):
the scraps? And for that we turn it over to
our executive producer, Danny g to find out what we've
missed so far. D alright, So Petro's taught us how
to say this Greek tennis stars name a while ago
on OutKick the Coverage, say it with me. Stefano sits APUs.
He heard booze? Thats what was that again? Oh yeah,
you gotta say pus at the end. Push Stefanos. He
(44:47):
heard booze from the crowd at the US From that one,
I know I'm gonna move forward button is right there
in front of me. So he got a second round
victory over Adrian Manrino. Here's the controversy in Jonas. You
heard him t saying he's gonna try this approach, which
I don't know what Jonas, does that mean We're gonna
(45:07):
have eight minutes of dead air? Yesterday, sent A Pus
took a toilet break that created an eight minute delay
between the end of the third set in the start
of the fourth. His own it was upset. Yeah. His
return was greeted by fans booing uh. And he did
this two days earlier. To Andy Murray as well, He's
(45:29):
quoted as saying, if I break a rule, sure I'm guilty.
I agree, but I'm not doing anything wrong. If I'm
staying within the guidelines, then what's the issue. Andy Murray
said that this is nonsense by the twenty three year
old Greek in in boxing and m m A. And
Brady knows this. He's a big fan of both. In
(45:49):
boxing and m m A. If you get hit with
a low blow, you have up to five minutes that
you can take a break and you can go to
the bathroom. Fans always boo the guys if they're taking
longer than like a minute, and it's like, well, he's
not breaking a rule. He's got up to five minutes.
He got he got hitting below the belt like that,
that's totally legal. If this guy's not breaking a rule,
(46:11):
what's the problem. And look, maybe you know he had
it's a US open, maybe it's in Manhattan. Had one
of those euros off a street cart and it ran
through him. So you know he's got to take care
of business. What do you want. I'm just saying the
guy you want to wear a diaper. I'm talking about.
I've never had, at any point time ever in my
(46:33):
athletic career, had to go the bathroom in the middle
of it, like a game anything like why, I don't know.
I've had I've had too, but I've never left the
game to go to the restroom. I have never just
held it, just held onto it, like and I was
too focused in on the game. Then I was like,
(46:54):
and then it goes away. Yeah, it just went. It
went away. You know, it wasn't it wasn't a part
of my It wasn't a part of didn't come back.
It came back. If it came back and it went bye, Bye.
Mcnarroe was upset during the broadcast because, uh, I know,
(47:16):
I'm trying to go forward. The opponent was using used
tennis balls trying to stay warm, and so that's where
tennis purists are upset about this. The Grand Slam rule
book says players should take a reasonable amount of time
for bathroom breaks. Okay, it depends on who you are. Man.
(47:37):
Some people can get in and out and we're fine.
Other people, you know, I mean, I don't know what
you want. You have you have some hot wings and
soil themselves, right, I mean like those tennis shorts are
thin too. Back to your point earlier, Brady, when you
talked about people want the truth until they get the truth,
and then once they get the truth, then you're probably
(47:57):
before everyone popsy. So and listen to Brady's point on
I hope so at least on those tennis shorts. To
Brady's point, it's like those old swim trunks when you
were a kid that had the netting inside of them
that you would wear. It's like, look, man, you eat
the wrong thing that turns into a plato make. I'm
just saying, oh, you gotta we gotta look out for
(48:18):
the well being of the patrons at the un and
I think it's totally fair that he takes hurt Rottweilers
don't like those nets shorts, just saying you gotta be
if you guys know, Penn State will be in the
all whites on the road. Let's let's move to Let's
(48:40):
move to Philadelphia for the next story, you guys, don't
you guys know about the friction between their tight end
actors and the Eagles, which began last off season after
contract extensions. The talks broke off following a down season
in suffered an ankle injury, finished with career low loads
and yards and TVs. He was granted permission to seek
(49:03):
a trade. You guys talked about how Howie Roseman is
running things there in Philly. Well, zach Ertz finally spoke
to the media yesterday, and he said that he's gonna
show forgiveness towards the team's front office. He emphasized his
commitment to the city and the organization. Following a rocky
off season that involved plenty of those trade talks. He
(49:25):
was trying to leave and didn't. He didn't. He say
he wanted to play with Wentz in Indianapolis. I think
I saw that. Yeah, I did not see that. Yeah,
to clean his neck here, you're making that up. I
didn't say that the organization. He did sit that the
organization apologize. He said that they basically made nice. So
I forget it is what it is. I mean, I
(49:46):
I don't I don't know, I don't care. Honestly. Yeah,
he'll be back. It hurts, will throw them all the time.
It's fine, We're good. Yeah, right, all right, and and
and finally, this story is gonna make you wonder if
Brady took out his money role. A customer at a
(50:08):
Florida restaurant thanked the staff for showing up and working
hard by leaving them a ten thousand dollar tips. It's
not me him, well, not that well. The Wahoo Seafood
Grill in Gainesville said in an i G post that
a recent customer asked to speak with the entire staff
during a recent visit. The workers gathered in the dining area,
(50:30):
where the man thanked them for showing up and working hard.
He then announced that he'd be tipping each of them
one thousand dollars. I'm not usually an emotional guy, but
this really got me I'm blown away. We're all blown
away by his generosity. Owner Sean Shepherd of the restaurant
wrote in the post, the last year and a half
hasn't been easy on our industry. We're hurting and we're exhausted,
(50:53):
but this incredible act of kindness has restored our faith
in humanity. That sounds like money laundering to me. That
or yeah, as Jonah said, it could be some money wandering,
or just could be some really nice wealthy individual was
hanging out with last night. I had special That's what
(51:17):
I'm saying. Like, I am not gonna lie to you.
I was completely taken back. Like when like you know,
how you you go to like an event, You're like, oh,
they're gonna have like a private room or something. They
running out the entire restaurant, like they running out the
entire Capital grill. And then I'm sitting there just having
some or derves or whatever, having you know, having a
(51:37):
nice glass of wine. I'm looking around, I'm going, dude,
to all these paintings. They literally took There was different
people who were like there who are part of the company,
or like Matt Reggie, myself, Bob Stoops, Rob Stone. They
put our faces on like these other pictures, and they
(51:59):
were aimed and hung up like it was part of
the artwork there, and I'm looking around like, what the hell.
Here's the question was unbelievable. Here's the question. Where you
standing there with a fine, uh, well well structured onlooker
explaining the picture or the painting that had your face
(52:23):
on it, like are you trying to make sure they
really eventually recognized that the face on the painting belongs
to you. Know. What's funny is it was a photo
they cropped it off because it was obviously just my
my head. It was. It was probably when I was
like twenty three, it was. It was like a good
fourteen years ago. That was the funny thing was like
(52:45):
how young it all looked, but it was. I was
not to answer your question, but it was. It was.
It was just funny. I mean walking around, you're like, dude,
every single picture in this place, I have no idea
how much time it took him to do all that.
It was so elaborate and so nice. It was. It
was an incredible deal. It really was. It must be
(53:06):
nice to be spoiled. Hamper. Hamper were just slumming it
here with that ceiling fan of oar had put in,
I love my ceiling fan, thank you very much. Something
missing from my top drawer. Kick the Coverage Radio Jonas
(53:30):
docks Lavarive, Brady Quoy here on FS are coming up next, though.
There's a quarterback in the NFL who wants revenge on
one coach and he may just get it. We'll have
that for you here right here on fs are. Be
sure to catch live editions about Kick the Coverage weekdays
