Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with Lamar Areas, Rady Quinn and Jonas Knocks on
Fox four Radio. Guys, welcome to Draft Week. It is
officially Draft Week in the NFL. All sorts of good
stuff throughout the next several days here on FS. Are
(00:22):
you guys fired up? Are we going to see any Uh?
Is Deebo Samuel gonna get traded for the number ten
pick overall? Because that's the report that's out there. Is
that happening with the Jets? Now? Is that is that going? First?
Good morning everyone, Good morning. Those two things that I
(00:42):
noticed this weekend, they both involved Deebo Samuel, all right.
The first is my god, he was iced out in
that video that surfaced. I mean, like, what's that He
had a little ice on him, drinking choker on that
was just the whole thing was just blinged out. And
then his wrist as well. I was thinking to myself, man,
(01:04):
this dude is definitely feeling like he's about to get paid.
So um, there's that, and it doesn't look like he's
gonna be coming back to San Francisco forty nights. The throat,
the throat threat, uh, what was that the throat slash
that that could have you know, been a little bit
of indication that you know, all right, so let me
let me paint the picture for everyone out there that's
(01:26):
wondering what we're talking about right now. So there was
a video that that surfaced on social media of Deebo
Samuel being a club. Yeah, he was in the club,
like fifty cent would say, in the club and uh
and and there were a lot of you know, when
you order a lot of bottles, they have these these
(01:46):
sparklers and they have these signs. It's this new deality signs.
And then sometimes they're carrying people and they have the
sparklers in the bottle. And we break that down for
a second. That's changed in the club industry. Like the
club history, it hasn't changed a lot over the years, right,
Like to go to a club, you get a table,
you're gonna get some sort of bottle service. It's gonna
(02:09):
be brought to you in various ways. But like over
the past like decade, and I would say, now there's
a sparklers, there's like there's like it's like fireworks. It's
almost like we're having a celebration that someone can afford
to buy an expensive, ridiculously over priced bottle of alcohol
light or more like you know, like bottles, like to
bring out a bottle anymore. Used to be like you
(02:31):
bring out a big bottle sparklers. The girls dada da no, No,
it's like five bottles, you know. It's like it's like
a whole bunch of bottles and it's your fireworks. You've
got to fight. It's a five bottle minimum. If you're lexing,
do you want the circus to come out with the bottles? Okay,
that's that's ten. That's ten bottles paid for the entire night.
(02:51):
You gotta pay for five to get the sparklers. You
can't just get amongst other things. It's just the premise
behind having all that attention drawn to you. It's not
good enough to just have one bottle when you do
it with the sparklers, and you can't like Joe Smo
walk into the club's buy one bottle and all of
(03:12):
a sudden that guy get it looks like it's fourth
of July. Around that guy, I'm saying, if you've got
a club, you gotta have at least five. The ten
bottles just surrounding that tape. Now, do you have limited
inventory of those boards, just so that you make sure
not that many people can buy it, you know, because
it looks like they've got the little special board where
they it's like the little mini billboard out in front
(03:33):
of anybody. And these boards that you're talking about, they're
they're like signs. They're like, uh, they're dryer race signs. Right,
So just as quickly as you could be there, you
could be gone, you know what. The next they're the
church signs that they're like those replaceable letters around sign
drive by and they've got that that that different joke
(03:56):
each Sunday, you know, but they hold them up and
they cash three they there, you know, they make sure
they're showing everyone in the club who it is that
bought the bottles, and and you know, they're showing love.
Like I was with Michael Parsons during the Super Bowl
and they had Defensive Rookie of the Year Michael Parsons, Right,
we're buying bottles Defensive Rookie of the Year and they're
(04:17):
flash and it and the sparklers are going off. Bottles
are getting hand let me pick up the Nami drop
told well, we were hanging out and you want to hear,
like not to not to derail this whole debo thing.
But since we're talking about v I P. So we
come walking into the spot and State College this weekend
(04:40):
and it is total mayhem up and that mean it's
crazy and just the humanity of it all. And everybody's
walking and I'm the guy that comes in last. I
bring up the rear right, make sure everybody's good. Everybody's in,
Everything is good. Why did security stop me and say
where is your wrist band? No? I looked at him.
(05:01):
I was like, you can't you do know? This is
State College, Pennsylvania and wrist band? I looked at him,
So I go I turned, I turned and start walking
away like dude, you're you're First of all, I'm not
even gonna tell you what I'm thinking, because it would
be horrible of me to be at forty three years
(05:22):
of the age and say to a college student that's
just trying to do his job at work what I
thought in that moment. So I just turned. So the
quarterback starting quarterback, he grabs the security guard. He goes,
what are wtf are you doing? Like what are you doing?
And I laughed like I walked away. I want yeah, yes,
(05:46):
I walked off. He's a good dude. He's a good dude.
I walked off. And it's kind of like a great segue,
right because when they walked in with those those those
you know, the fireworks and the bottles, and they had
to sign up and they were pushing the signs up.
It's it Deebo Samuel's Samuel is returning to the forty
(06:07):
Niners and the video show Deebo during the throat slash
like kill that. I know I bought these bottles. I
know we got this service going. I know we're pumped up.
I paid for the rent for the month with with
this one by, but I am not coming to coming
back to San Francisco to play with the forts. At
(06:31):
least that's what the throat throat slash at the point
in time that he did it was was kind of
connected to, is what I'll say. Yeah, yeah, it seems
like it's not happening. Uh, the Niners are going to
be moving on from Deebo Samuel. Um, it just I
(06:51):
if there's the number ten pick overall, if that's if
that's a real offer on the table and the Jets
are willing to part ways with the number ten pick
overall for deebos Amnuel. The Niners have to do that deal, right,
I mean like that that seems to be like it
would be, that would be the best offer on the table.
They could get a top ten pick for Deebo Samuel,
a guy who doesn't want to come back, who's probably
(07:11):
just had the best season at his high point. And
we talked about it. If you're gonna deal him, deal
him now, if you can get the number ten overall pick,
amongst other things, why would you not do the deal?
If you're saying, fran I would do that deal and
I'd trade back and get more picks with it, like
in all honesty, because I don't know that there's because
here's the hard time, A hard thing about saying this is,
(07:32):
I don't know that there is a wide receiver that
I feel as confident is gonna segue into the NFL
and do what Debo has been able to do so far.
So the one thing that makes this really attractive for
the Jets is you get a surefire known commodity now
that like I said last week, the problem is if
(07:54):
you think he's gonna do what he did last year,
like that's a that's you know, that's that's what his
average is to be. You know, everyway this way we
can expect that a debo you're dead wrong. Like we
went through the list of receivers that haven't only done
that or surpassed that once in their career. So that's
the hard thing is for the Jets, I think it
makes sense because their roster could use it. They've got
(08:15):
some young talented kids there. I love the Elijah More kid.
I think he's you know, you put those two next
to each other, that's a problem for defenses. Um, Corey
Davis is already there, he's kind of showed out, Denzel
Mims is flashed at times. Like they've got some guys,
but this would really help kind of legitimize that group
to a degree. I just I don't know that you're
ever gonna get, you know, what you're hoping for, and
(08:38):
then in this particular draft with that pick, and so
it might make some sense. It really might make it
make some sense for both parties. But if san Fran
gets that in return, I would almost say, look trade
back and look what you'll end up getting. Because they
found Debo in the second round. Brandon ka believe was
he background in the first round if I'm not mistaken,
(08:59):
So so you could you could find some guys that
you like and you don't have to sit there at
number ten a few of the forty niners. So I
really I like that scenario for both sides because I
think the Jets get what they want. They've got the
ability in cap space to do it. If you're trying
to invest into Zach Wilson, look at the other New
York team. They keep talking about how they want to
see what they have in Daniel Jones. This is your
second year with Zach Wilson. You better give him every
(09:22):
opportunity you can to succeed. So it makes sense from
that standpoint. I just I'm not sure that you're gonna
get that high end Deebo Samuel that we saw last
year because it's so rarely done by any wide receiver.
That's the most damning part of this for me is
at first I was like, man, listen, he's dynamic. He
(09:43):
I mean, he really is. He's a dynamic player. You
can use them in different ways. He's shown that that
he can get it done in in different places. But
the more I have been listening to two que as
like kind of like it. It definitely was a necessity
for him to do the things that he was doing,
especially out of the backfield. I wouldn't anticipate that that
(10:04):
would be the brightest or most logical move if you're
using him moving forward on any team as a running back,
like as a true running back. That's first and foremost.
You you're talking about what there were two preseason injuries
to your running backs, um and your backfield. You were
depleted coming into the season, all right, So it's not
(10:25):
like you're going to bring him in to do those
things and those duties. And I started really kind of
you know, mowing over that. But what's even more damning
is what we say these same things about to re kill.
Would you say it makes sense for both sides all
you know, these are the things that you know we
can look for. They got the capst's out of that
(10:45):
you can find a guy in late second round or
first round this that maybe in the second round. We
wouldn't be saying that about Tyreek Hill, you know who else.
We wouldn't be saying that about Davonte Adams. We wouldn't
be saying that about either one of those guys. So
that kind of puts it kind of puts Deebo Samuel
in that category of elite, just not as elite as
(11:08):
he is pushing or forcing for in terms of what
he's thinking his work is. Which makes it very interesting
to see how this will all play out because even
if the trade takes place, what does that mean in
terms of negotiations of of a contract. Is he gonna
do what quarterbacks do? Is he Is he going to
(11:29):
say I want my contract, I want my number, or
I'm not playing. I just wonder where this is going
to go. I think that's a really interesting point because
like with Green Band, if I was to ask you, guys,
like what would keep them from getting to a super Bowl?
You will probably say, well, Damanta Adason being there, like,
like who steps in that role? If I said the
(11:50):
same thing with the Chiefs, the same thing about kill now.
So the only reason why I question this about the
forty Niners is because their quarterback situation. You know, we
didn't look at Jimmy Garoppo like Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes.
And obviously with with Trey Lance presumed to be the starter,
you know, there's a lot to to uncover or or
(12:11):
figure out there. And so I don't know if that
makes sense too, and saying, hey, maybe you need to
get more help out around that quarterback position because he
might need it. So you gotta deal a guy who's
at a high point, like Jonah said, and then get
back multiple picks to surround him with more talent or
do you say, you know it's it's the it's the
same argument, Like, that's the reality is if they don't
(12:34):
get to the playoffs, if they can't win the division,
oh it's because of debo. I don't know that anyone's
gonna be saying that. So I think that's the point
of where they where, this where this league is. At
this point, you either have a guy or you don't
at quarterback and everyone else, I mean, they might have
their price, but they're expendable. Like, if if I've learned
one thing this offseason, it's that once the team has
(12:55):
their quarterback, they feel like everyone else out of around
that position is expendable to a degree, and they'll find
someone that that quarterback can help elevate, because if they
don't have that quarterback that can elevate everyone else side
around them, then they're really just spending the spinning their
wheels trying to look for that guy that can do it.
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LaVar Errington and
(13:18):
Jonas Knocks week days at six am Eastern three am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
Did you guys see what the NFL did? I mean,
pretty cruel stuff by this league just continues to dominate.
We were talking last week about how the schedule release
and how the NFL's turned, you know, just something they
(13:38):
would normally do anyways into an event in itself by
releasing certain games here and kind of sprinkling in some
of the news that comes out on matchups and etcetera, etcetera.
Now apparently they're going to have a triple header on
Christmas Day, So the one day the NBA could count
on to have all the eyeballs on them, the NFL
is deciding, you know, it's a Sunday f this of
(14:00):
doing a triple header. Is there a feud going on
like this? Something? Have the red ass for Adam Silver,
Like what's happening right now? It did no regard for
human lawless still doesn't care. They don't care like you.
I mean, they don't have to play those games. You know,
(14:21):
they could. They could schedule the games on on a
Saturday or sort of, you know, Brady's word acquiesced to
the n b A, and you know, maybe, uh maybe
don't couple games on a Monday. This probably has more
to do with the fact that Christmas inwo falls on
a Sunday, right, I mean, that's what it does. But
you know that you could You don't have to schedule
(14:42):
three in a row. I mean, you don't have to
schedule the triple header. You know, you could you could
do one game. When you say that, I mean you
could do one game. You normally have triple headers on Sundays. Yeah,
I understand, But you know, if you're only gonna have
three games, you could easily move those three games to
another day, the way you could put the two on
Saturday and and another one on Monday night if you
wanted to, If you really wanted to play nice. They
(15:04):
have no they have no consideration of playing nice here.
I just don't really think that's how this works. But okay,
I mean I think it has. I think it has
more to do with the fact that it falls on
a Sunday. It's how it normally works on on any
given Sunday in the NFL season. And so you've got
your one o'clock window Eastern time. Obviously, no one talks
about Pacific four pm Eastern times, and then and then
(15:27):
your prime touch. I'm just saying, no one's gonna do
the math for the windows they're talking. Why not. You
guys have to get used to it on the West.
That's that's the That's a major pet peeve of Brady
Quinn that he does not like people referring to Pacific times.
He likes Eastern times. It's so you can you can
refer to it, but it's kind of like the Pact
twelve past for years now, like you can do it
(15:47):
if no one's listening, I just just talk about your
own times. So because everyone in the East Coast is
like still watching other stuff that I'm telling you this
right now at four Pacific time here on a Monday morning.
You know this is this is outrageous. What the now?
What do you think the if there's I'm trying to
think what would be the worst matchup possible in the NFL, Like,
(16:09):
what what's the If you had to pick the worst
matchup possible in the NFL, what would it be? Jags
Lions battle for the number one pick for the third
straight year, Like, what would you think is the worst
matchup in the NFL. Does that make it a bad
match up? But I'm saying, well, I'm just saying bad.
Worst matchup in the NFL still would dominate a rematch
(16:30):
of the NBA Finals on Christmas Day Ratings wise, I
didn't think it would be close. Yeah, yeah, that's I mean,
that's what the worst gang worst matchup? Put it this way.
Do we have We're in NBA playoffs right now, Yeah,
do we have some of like what I guess the
(16:51):
USL USFL FL numbers and what how they would compare
what we're saying from the NBA. I don't know those,
but I did see a rep for it that w
w E SmackDown on Friday Night outrated the NBA playoffs.
I did see that, so I know the one in
(17:13):
prime time was had for a three million viewer or
something like that. I I forge. And also the numbers
you hear different demographics that are thrown out their total
viewers peak audience, like all all that I mean, you're
the TV guy, you would know better than me. I'm
just a radio guy. You try and focus on radio,
That's true. Yeah, being a couple of TV guys over there,
(17:35):
just saying like you guys are the TV stars. I
mean no, no, I'm just trying to say, you know,
just a radio guy. But LaVar did ask a good question,
what does anyone care about? I was gonna ask this question, like,
there's we talked about Ben Simmons and I mean, now
we've got the Nets, who are just a disaster between
between the two favorites who are supposed to win the
(17:57):
NBA Finals at the start of the season, who now
have failed to win a playoff game. Like, what's the
intrigue right now with the NBA? Is it that? Okay?
You're you're you know, the Sons and Bucks and some
of these other teams. Maybe the heat can play a factor.
I just maybe it's just me and I'm someone who
I love watching the Heat. I love watching the Suns.
I love watching Devin Booker. Um, you know he's obviously
(18:20):
you know not and I have help right now, but
he's he's he's one of my favorite players in the league.
It's just there's something that's just not intriguing about the league.
And I don't know what it is. I don't know
what it's missing. But when you have to highlight protesters
and that gets more I mean seriously, that goes viral,
That gets more buzz than the actual games themselves, or
(18:43):
the fact that Ben Simmons isn't playing, and like the
what he's wearing on the bench, Like when that gets
highlighted more so than your actual sport, like, don't you
have a problem. Well yeah, and and by the way,
shout out to that security guard, what a what a
phenomenal but eyeball, And that woman who was trying to
go dressed as an official and storm onto the court
(19:04):
and that security guard just smoked her, I mean got
her down. Yeah, they did. Uh tackled, tackled like a
cookie smoke Definitely. I'm not sure it's not sure about that.
By the way, do you know who the the favorite
is to win the NBA Championship right now? Do the
current odds based on all the injuries obviously Milwaukee's dealing
(19:27):
with Chris Middleton injury Booker, you know the favorite is
uh he no, not even close. The Sons, not even close.
Not even timber Wolves. No, not the Minnesota Timberwolves. Well,
I was gonna say they are undefeated. When someone storms
the court and tries to protest that it might be
(19:52):
the Celtics. It's not the Celtics. What yeah, Philly, No,
I'm Warrior. Oh the Warriors. And see that's a problem
if you forget, that's a problem, right, Like I think
that's just me and I don't know. Obviously I watched
that game. Us by the fact, the fact that you
(20:16):
guessed Timberwolves over the Warriors, it was more like a
drop in the line about the protesters, like that fires
up the crowd. They seemed to be able to be
rejuvenated by that. By the way, was that that game
that that happened, Was that it an ESPN game? The
protester I need I need to find out whether that
was in the ESPN game. I thought the best part
(20:37):
about that that no one picked up on was there
was two protesters. They had this, they had that thing
figured out. They were going to sacrifice the first one
as the distraction technique, and then the second one was
the one that was actually gonna pull off the protest.
But they got to both because they dragged that first
one out of there in a a heartbeat. A poor by
(20:59):
everybody involved, by those protesters. Uh. And I'm trying to
find assume their protesters right, because we don't really I mean,
they didn't get far enough along to know what they
were going to protest. Or do we know definitively what
they were protesting? Well, I know the woman was dressed
up as an official, right, which doesn't necessarily mean she's
protesting anything, unless she's just protesting the officiating in the NBA,
(21:20):
which has been poured this postseason. Can I tell you something,
I just wanted social media followers that that's whom. Can
I tell you something? I would rather glue myself to
the floor than dress up like an official, all right?
And I don't think that that's a hot take. I
think that's a legitimate take. I feel like they're gluing
themselves to the floor wasn't the best way of getting
(21:43):
themselves to stay put. Like if that woman would have
walked out there and crapped her pants, I don't think
anyone's trying to pick her up quickly off the floor.
I'm just saying, like, no one's coming near you. I mean,
who knew Brady was going to come in with ideas
on how to protest in NBA game. I'm throwing that
out there right if if if that was the move,
people would have ran up the crabber and been like,
(22:03):
oh no, do you imagine somebody running out taking a
dump at the three point line at a Timberwolves game.
It is there as they're as they're dragging them off,
as they're dragging them off the court, they say, Brady,
send it to it and just handcuffed dragging off the
floor with you know, just a defication situation. Uh. In

(23:08):
It is officially Draft week. It is here in Las
Vegas Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and uh and we are previewing
the draft talking about some of the rumblings. The rumors
that are out there are the Jacksonville Jaguar is gonna
be taking Aiden Hutchinson or is there potential for a
surprise even though he's the betting favorite. We've talked about
(23:29):
Deebo Samuel who apparently really doesn't want to be a
forty Niner anymore. In the New York Jets are rumored
to uh be interested in offering up the number ten
overall pick. All that being said, when Draft week arrives,
what kind of memories do you guys got This is
a big week in your life Draft week. You guys
got any fun stories, tales from a draft week back
(23:50):
in the day, anything you want to share their Yeah,
I don't know how you'd put it. I mean, I
just remember being a busy week. There's just a lot
going on. It's it was kind of hard to really
calm down and internalize, you know, what this week meant.
And maybe it feels different now for kids in college
because they're able to make money out their name, image
(24:11):
and likeness. But you know, you'd put in so much
hard work and there's been so many sacrifices and there
are so many people around you that sacrificed to help
you get where you were. I was just you know,
thankful and appreciative and and just just for the opportunity.
I mean, honestly, like that was how I kind of
viewed it. And it was cool because so many people
who did support me, like we're able to come to
(24:32):
New York and we're able to be a part of it.
And so throughout the course of the week, you know,
I got the chance to you know, be able to
to to see them and talk to them and thank
them and hang out with them. Um, you know, I'm
it was just it was just a really really cool,
cool week. I mean some of them had a little
bit too much of a time. I remember to two
(24:52):
days before the draft. I remember I brought a trainer
up there. I I've done some box against cross training
and all that, and he had kind of just because
it's actually it's great for your footwork, but obviously for
a quarterback like setting up to throw a right hand
punch very similar to setting up the throw, you know,
a pass if you're in the pocket. So a lot
of your footwork really kind of mimics that. And so
I had, you know, started doing that back in high school,
(25:15):
and I had brought him out there, and earlier in
the week, you know, things were starting to turn up
a little bit for the draft, where you'd go to
some different appearances and parties, but not quite to the
likes of what it was like heading into you know,
Thursday Friday, because the draft was over the weekend back then.
So I remember that Thursday night and we had been
out to a party and pretty much everyone was in
town at that point, and he got absolutely ripped, and
(25:39):
I remember saying, I was like, Hey, are you gonna
be in the in the way room my five and
tomorrow morning He's like, yeah, yeah, I got you. I
got you. And I get down there around like four
fifty and one of my buddies actually had stayed up
all night partying, was hammered out of his mind. But
he's sitting in the weight room with a newspaper one
of the benches just because he didn't want to go
to sleep, and so he's sitting there with me and
(26:00):
I'm starting to warm up and like, you know, it's
five fifteen, no show, five five twenty, and he's like
where is He was like, I don't know. I'm sure
he got two panged up, ended up finding his way
into someone else's hotel room. So yeah, he stood me up.
And I remember that was one of the last times
I ever worked with him because I was like, I
was like kind of upset the fact that I don't
care if anyone plays hard, but you gotta work hard too,
(26:21):
Like there's gonna be that fine balance of it. But
that relationship essentially ended at the draft because of that
whole incident. Now what time did you finally hear back
from him? Literally not until like later on that afternoon,
because Lee was lead to Lap just wouldn't even respond
it at all. Yeah, I mean Lee might have set
up like a smoke single let he knows still alive. Um, yeah,
(26:43):
I didn't hear I didn't hear back from until probably
one in the afternoon. I think, Hey, I messed up.
Sorry about that. There really wasn't much of an explanation,
you know, it was just kinda yeah, sorry, you know.
The morning, I like, we're good he missed the workout
by eight hours. That's all. It's good, all right? Well interesting,
(27:04):
Uh what about you, LaVar? I mean, were you just
thinking about like who do you knew you were going
to Washington number two? You was the setting stone? Or
was it some potentially you were going to go number
one as well too? I mean, well again, we we negotiated.
We negotiate it back then. So if you were going one,
(27:24):
you know, you you had your deal done before the
draft even started pretty much. So but I'll say this,
I'll go back you say draft week. This is draft week.
So I'm not going to be uh, the draft was
a blur, and I gotta be honest. I was fatigued
by the time I got to the draft. You know,
(27:45):
I could remember not being able to sleep the night
before the draft. Um that was probably the biggest memory,
I hate to say, from leading up to the draft.
Um like right there and then but the week during
the week. So a quick backstory. My my father's a
military dude. You know, like everybody if you know the story,
(28:08):
he lost you know, a foot and a leg in
Vietnam when when his uh, his group got you know,
his his squad got ambushed. Um, he got caught on
the tank tread you know, had to use another another
his other foot to put himself off of the tank. Um.
That's the type of of dad I had. It was,
(28:31):
you know, or half was this just hard, no military dude,
no nonsense, and just get it done. So for my
entire life when I told my dad my parents, I'm
going pro. You know, I'm gonna go pro. I'm gonna
do this. I'm gonna do that. You know, I would
have great games in high school, and I have great
(28:51):
games in college, and my mom and dad would just
be like, good job. You know. In high school would
be like, good job, all right, make sure you get
the trash cans out, you know, like I just ran
for two hundred ninety yards in a game. Mom my
dad be looking at me like, yeah, you heard your mom,
Go go take the trash cans out, you know. And
(29:12):
they never my my my dad was such a man
to me and such like a mythical figure in so
many ways that I never could see myself having any
type of like conversations with him, like man to man.
And I just remember maybe it was like right before
(29:34):
we had left to go to New York, I was
back home, and me and my dad sat and talked
and we just talked for like two three hours and
we talked as men, and all I could, all I
could remember, you know, was this. It was easily my
(29:54):
fondest memory of it all because it broke me down,
Like I started. I cried, like I cry. I cry
every bit of weight that I had ever had on
me in terms of what I wanted to achieve, my
expectations that were placed on me, the non expectations. Right
(30:15):
when I was younger, you know, they tried to put
me in in UM in special education classes and said
that you know, I couldn't learn, you know, normal I couldn't.
There were so many things that you know, they were
my my I guess my trajectory was always in question,
and my father and my mother were always always encouraging
(30:39):
me and telling me what I what I define is,
what the definition of who I am is. And my
father was always just very as a matter of fact
about it, like well, if you can't learn, you can't learn.
And it's like like you're young, and it's like I
don't get that. But it was like kind of his
thing is as you are what you are, and and
(31:03):
you're gonna You're going to either earn what you are
and and make it yours, or you're gonna allow people
to define it for you. And I could just remember
him sitting there, and it was the first time my
dad had ever said to me, I can't believe how
how well you have done. I can't even begin to
(31:27):
tell you how proud I am of all the things
that you've overcome, and and all the conversations you know
that that pursued from that, and that those couple of hours,
it was like that was all I had ever I
could have I could have missed the draft, died that
that next day, and that would have been That was
(31:49):
a bigger moment than them calling my name after draft.
Was my dad acknowledging, finally acknowledging to me how proud
he was of me, and not just that that stood
with me, because again, there were so many moments that
were they were just you know, you just have to overcome.
(32:09):
I don't think people understand how much work and how
much heartache and and and setbacks and and tears and
and and even you see the good things, but you
just don't see everything that takes place on that journey
to getting your name called, and and just for us
(32:31):
to be able to kind of talk through things. That's
probably easily the most memorable moment for me Draft week
was me and my dad had the first man to
man conversation that that I had had in my life.
That's awesome. Yeah, man, that's that's pretty cool. And you know,
I I do think just in looking at this weekly
(32:53):
there you get a bunch of guys who are three
or four days away from and they have no idea
where they're going to spend the next hope, potentially ten
years of their life. Have no idea, Like they're just
sort of waiting and whatever team takes them, it just
changes the course of history for them moving forward. Like
they have they're probably talking to a few teams maybe something.
(33:13):
Some teams they haven't talked to are gonna end up
drafting them. So it just I think the people that
have never been drafted before, we at least have some
sort of an understanding where we're going to be, your
an expectation where we're gonna be, but you don't. But
but these guys know they're going to be in the NFL,
or at least most of them do. But I have
no idea what situation they're gonna end up in have
(33:34):
no clue. I think that's the interesting thing about it
is I don't think they do. I know I didn't.
And and and the idea of it is is that
you you know you're going to get drafted, but you
just don't You don't know where you're going to be,
but you don't know how it's going to play out either.
I would have never thought my NFL career would have
played out the way that it did. And for even
(33:57):
that that aspect of it, no matter or what the
career ended up being. I think the reason why that
moment with my dad was so important was the accomplishment
was the accomplishment. And and the idea of it is
is even if you went undrafted, because there is the
idea of understanding that there will be heartbreak at during
(34:20):
the draft as well. There will be many people who
thought they were going to get drafted that don't get drafted.
And then there's that idea of the reality of it
is is that man, I gotta come in as an
undrafted guy and see if I can make it onto
a team. There is a lot of uncertainties. There are
a lot of uncertainties surrounding going into the draft and
what it's going to be and where you're gonna be.
(34:41):
But I think the one thing that I took, the
value that I took was if you can make it
under under these circumstances, against all odds, to be in
a position, whether you get drafted or not, if you
actually we're able to get to this point, then you
(35:05):
should be able to be successful in any and everything
you endeavor strive to do in your life, because it's
difficult to get to that point. So you're all successes.
You're all a success. You're not a failure. If you
don't get drafted, you're not a failure. If you get
drafted later then you thought you were going to get drafted,
you're not a failure. You're actually a phenomenon. You're you're
(35:29):
a phenomenal success. And you just got to realize that
and realize who you are and let the rest of it,
you know, let the rest of it be what it's
going to be, but enjoy it a moment. Yeah, but
it'd be nice not to be drafted by Jacksonville. I mean,
that'd be cool, you know, I mean, go go to
that environment is a income tax stage. You get Yeah,
(35:49):
you get to keep a creator percentage of your bonus
and all that you do donuts and hell cats. That's true. Up, yeah,
that is you have lot more fun driving. Hey, thanks
