that moment does happen. So whatever you're looking for, Husky gear,
Seahawk gear, cracking gear kJ R fifteen for fifteen percent

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Here he is was able to hang out with this
guy setting our booth for a little bit on on Saturday,
jumped on the show, pregame, got the full Husky Stadium experience,
and then hop the bird to go back to San Jose.
My friend, your friend, John Wilner, Johnny, how are you pale?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
I'm good play. That was a lot of fun. Being
in the booth with the Husky Hanks was as entertaining
as the game.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, scarring right for life. You may never ever get
over that, actually most people.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, yeah, Dick.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
The outrage over not being having the quarterback under center
in short yardage situations was just off the charts.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
And I don't disagree. I think that's a lost art.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
But my gosh, those guys were upset when when he
lines up in the shotgun on fourth and enough foot.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
Well, I'm just wondering how much they could sell that,
you know, podcast for unedited podcast of the Husky Hanks
watching a football game with all the profanity and everything.
I mean, they can, they can make thousands.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
They should just sell tickets for the boot.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well, there's no profanity at all. Everybody is very very
very very safe with their with their language and the booth.
But it was great to see you there John on Saturday.
I mean, obviously be appropriate to get your thoughts on
what you saw, what you felt your inside Husky Stadium.
Seventy two thousand people out there. They fall behind seventeen
fourteen in the third quarter after leading fourteen nothing, then
(02:10):
come back and end up getting maybe the biggest way
of Jetfish's career. I know he got a bit nice
whatever UCLA when he was in Arizona beat a ranked
Oregon State team in Tucson.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
But what'd you make of what you saw Saturday?
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Yeah, I think it probably was if you exclude the
Alamo Bowl last year against Oklahoma. And you know, it's
hard to judge the magnitude of bowl games these days
because there's so many opt outs, but certainly for a
regular season I would put it at the top of
his list because the platform it's the defending national champs
is NBC. You know, it was a great atmosphere, and look,
(02:45):
I thought the Huskies played very well. I mean two
things equally true. Washington played very well, limited the mistakes
over their three penalties. Two penalties, you know, just the
opposite of the Rutgers game. But also, you know, I
don't think Michigan is an elite team this year, and
they were a little bit better once they made that
(03:05):
quarterback change.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
But I think we could look back on.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
This as seeing Washington beat a you know, a seven
and five Michigan team at home.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Still great for the program, no doubt about that. But
I think, you know, a little context is warranted as well.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
Does this change your outlook on this football team? Because
I know that I'm going to use the word skeptical
as as a kind way to describe your outlook on
the twenty twenty four Washington Husky. So does this change
your outlook at all the rest of the season.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Maybe a little bit, because I've seen that they can
execute for four quarters without piling up fifteen yard drive
killing personal foul penalties. And when they do that, I mean,
you look at all the metrics, and they do. They're
playing very well when they don't shoot themselves in the
foot right, the plays per yards per play, all that stuff,
(03:57):
yards per game relative to their opponents. It's it's all
pretty good when they're not making mistakes. But at the
same time, the schedule's.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Really hard starting this week, all those trips east. That's
you know, that's a big, big problem.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I think UCLA to me is the only game left
where I look and think, oh, absolutely, Washington win that game,
no question.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Well it's funny because I don't think there's a game
that they can't win on their schedule the rest of
the way. I mean, there there may be a couple
losses in there, just because of the way things work.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Out, it's gonna run the table. Yeah, you know, I.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Mean look, I mean yeah, Penn State, Indiana USC doesn't
look great at all. Iowa's got Cade McNamara at quarterback,
who's giving them nothing in the passing game whatsoever. I mean, John,
I absolutely agree with you that Washington's going to lose
a couple of games, and all those other teams when
they look at Washington probably say, hey, that's a team
that we can beat. I think Washington is saying the
(04:52):
exact same thing about every team left on their schedule
because they've got a guy and Will Rogers who was
number eleven in the country passing efficiency is number two
in the Big Ten in that category. They may have
the best receiver in the Big Ten right now in
Denzel Boston. They're their their their defense is averaging like
five yard excuse me, number five in the country and
yards per play, and they're not gonna face any real
(05:15):
unique offenses I think the rest of the way until
they see the Ducks in the last game of the year.
So I understand the skepticism and I totally agree. The
schedule is gonna get tougher. If you just go by rankings,
you're one thousand percent right. But how good, honestly is
this conference and how good are these teams on the
Husky schedule.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I'm not sure that it's that great a conference.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I think it could very well be that or Oregon
and Ohio State and we'll see what happens in Eugene
on Saturday orogon.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Ohio State finish.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Maybe pet States include in their finish like a couple
of games clear of everybody else. I think it's got
a small top and that, but the middles wide, there's
a lot of good to decent teams, and you're right,
there's no game. Maybe I would argue Oregon is probably
a game Washington can't win, but.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Because of the rivalry, you never know.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
But yeah, all the the last six games could go
either way, which means, you know, four and two, three
and three, two and four all depends on a few
plays in each game going right or going wrong. It's
kind of all on all on the you know, the
knife's edge, and maybe they end up nine and three
(06:28):
and maybe they end up five and seven.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Well, you know, it's fun now to see these East
teams having to come west, right, Yeah, Miami has to
go to cow Now, they ended up winning, but it
took them three and a half quarters to wake up.
I mean, Michigan has to come to Washington, Ohio State
has to come to Oregon. And all I've been hearing
is all the big bad Big Ten's gonna be really
hard for these PAC twelve teams to adjust. Hell, it's
(06:51):
been hard for the Big ten teams to adjust to
these PAC twelve.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Teams both ways. It cuts both ways.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Penn State's gotta go to SCE this week, James Franklin,
talk's got to I'm playing about having Oh they got
to bust to Harrisburg to make the long trip. I mean,
that's what they signed up for.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
I did. I actually looked at it. And so far
there have.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Been nine Big Ten Conference games in which one team
has had to travel at least two time zones.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Right, And the traveling team is one in eight in those.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Games, Right, And you know that doesn't bode well. That's
part of the reason why I think Washington's got a
hard road ahead because they've got still got multiple trips.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Across the Rockies.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
And not only are the traveling teams one in eight,
but relative to the point spread, they're not doing well.
The favorites are losing outright, and the underdogs are losing
by more than the point spread.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
And that's not what you expect.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
You'd expect it to kind of be fifty to fifty
with just the way the odds are of the odds work.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Okay, John Wilner, go back and talk about what you
just said there, because the point you made. So Penn
State's going to LA this weekend, right, guys to face USC.
So Franklin comes out and says, we got to take
a bus to Harrisburg, which I think is like a
ninety minute drive by the way from Happy Valley to
(08:12):
get a plane to go to LA because the runway
that they have out there isn't big enough to fit
a plane that's big enough to go to Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
I mean, that's crazy to me, right, that a team
has to do that.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Could they potentially be forced to spend some money and
build a bigger runway or even another airport so they
can get a plane out.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
I'm not kidding, John, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
I mean, my guess is, and I don't remember exactly
how the Big ten set the schedule model in terms
of how many cross country trips the fourteen members are
gonna have to make. Pet State is I think only
coming West once this year to SC So if it's
(08:58):
a deal where they only have to make the once
for football, they may not. And I'm assuming that their
Olympic sports, you know, it will be a little different.
They may not take his bit. They don't need as
big a plane that kind of thing. But yeah, it's
it's a hassle, and it's a hassle for the fourteen,
and it's a hassle for the four.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
And that's what everybody signed up for.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Well, one game could be the difference between making the
playoff and not. When it's all said and done, you go,
you know, nine in the lee versus ten and two,
And that's a that's a problem. Guys that you dub
will never have to worry about with an airport right
in their backyard in Seattle. So I mean to me, Dick,
that's that's advantage Pack twelve team.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Oh, I don't think there's any question about it because
all the Pac twelve teams are coming with it with
airports very very near them. But Johnny We've complained since
since something and I've been born, we've been complaining about
the East Coast bias. And I almost feel like now
we are the beneficiaries of the East Coast bias because
we're in a big time East Coast dominated conference. I'm
(09:58):
looking at these the top two twenty five, and I'm
seeing number two, number three, number four, all in the
Big ten, and I'm not sure if any of them
are any good. And I'm seeing seven teams in the
top twenty seven in America, and I'm like, this is
going to be great for Washington because every game Washington
plays is going to be seen as a good loss
(10:19):
if they happen.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
To lose, even if these teams aren't any good.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
The PAC twelve never got this type of respect with
the mediocrity that the Big ten has right now.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
True, but there's also more teams or more programs that
can match or exceed Washington's inherent advantages that.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
It had over most of the schools in the tech QULP, right.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
I mean, if you'll look at what the PAC twelve was,
you know, only sc and maybe Oregon could exceed Washington
for resources and tradition and recruiting prowess, but in the
big ten, it's more than you know, there's several Right,
Obviously Michigan Ohio State are at the top of the list,
so it is a bigger platform, but it's also tough
(11:02):
for competition. We'll see kind of how that whole thing
balances out. You know, maybe maybe the Huskies do get
you know, more attention, more respect. Yeah, maybe they also
have two more losses each year on average than they
would have if they were playing in the back twelve.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
All right, John, real quick? Uh Willners winner? Uh, you're
you're writing a three game winning streak. You're four and two.
You got cow on the points against Miami. Good job
out of you that got them out right. Yeah, that
game didn't end until like two o'clock. We do got
to get a take on this Ohio State Oregon game.
So is that the game you're picking this week? If not,
(11:38):
we got to go take on that too. So go ahead.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
No, I'm taking the ducks.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
You mean they're taking the ducks.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
One?
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Is it Ohio State minus one?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
It's two and a half. Actually it's three as of
right now. Oregon's getting three.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Wow, I just think that the travel is a big deal.
It is a big deal and it.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Works both ways.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Right, it's hard for those teams to come west, but
when the West coast teams have to go.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Play the nine Am games.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
And we didn't get into Washington Challenge, but that's really hard.
The nine am games on the on the East coast
are gonna be hard. Ucla have one at Penn State
and usually he's got a nun to win next week
at Rutgers. Huskies have won at Iowa. Right those are
that's a real disadvantage.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
So we're gonna go Oregon plus the points is your
official Windalorean pick.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Correct.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Yeah, I'm gonna just assume that Dylan Gabriel doesn't throw
two picks in the end zone like he did against
Michigan State.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
It be does It's gonna be a blowout.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
All right. Oregon's actually getting three and a half boys
as of right now. Absolutely, there you go.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
All right, we're gonna give you win.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
We'll give you the ducks and the three and a
half against Ohio State this week and all right, man,
great stuff, Great to see you.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
We'll talk next Tuesday. Pal.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Thanks a lot, guys, all right.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
John Wilner likes Oregon and the points against Ohio State.
