Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's time for Sathi and Dick's weekly Visit with Seattle
Crechon head coach Dan Bilsma, brought to you by Dick's
Drive In, serving great Biggers, fries and checks the hockey
fan since nineteen fifty four. Stuff into one of the
nine Dicks Drive Ins locations today now with our head coach,
Dan Bilsma, Deer's Saftian Jos.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
All right, boys and girls, here we go our weekly
visit with the head coach of your Seattle Kraken courtesy
of our pals at Dick's Drive Ins, Dan Bilsma with
us right now on the radio show and coach first
of all, Winter Lose. I appreciate you doing this every
single week. I've learned after thirty one years in this
business it's best to not beat around the bush. So

(00:42):
let's just let's get right to it. What the heck
happened last night in Saint Louis and a seven to
two loss and a game that Jared McCann called embarrassing
when the game was over. Your thoughts on last night.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, I'll echo those sentiments. I think you know clearly
not our best game, of which you know no other
way to look at it. We got we got out competed,
and it was it was pretty much sixty minute effort
in that regard to a man, and you know, whether

(01:17):
it's three and four coming off the break or the
travel or whatnot, there's no excuse for us. You know
that that just wasn't good enough. And I think even
more big of a different disappointment is how we played
in Florida and how we played in Tampa. I thought
we played two really good hockey games in Florida and

(01:37):
Tampa against two really good teams, got the win in Florida,
and then to come back and follow up and finish
off the trip in Saint Louis in that fashion was disappointing.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Well, Jared also said, you guys didn't look like you
had your legs late in that game. I mean, you
had the road trip or the end of the long
road trip, but then you also had the break before that.
So how much of a reasonable excuse is the legs?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Well, we have to come up with an excuse, I'll say,
because of you know what, with the effort we put
in and what happened on the ice. But I think
you know, there is some twelve days off of playing
a game and coming back, and then you know, playing
three and four. I thought we had our best jump
of the year in a back to back situation in

(02:26):
Tampa Bay and played a really good game against them
in a hard fought game, back and forth and with
a h up winning And so I thought there was
good evidence of good legs in those two games. But
clearly in the center of Saint Louis game, it caught
up to us a little bit and you could see,
like I said, as Jared said, we didn't we didn't
have our legs in that one.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Well, Dan Bowsma again with us a weekly visit with
a coach of the crack and after a seven to
two loss at Saint Louis last night, and I mean, look, frankly,
the the deadline is nine days away, right next Friday,
and there's a lot of fans out there that are
starting to kind of wonder if this team can pull
it together in time to make a run before next Friday.
What what makes you think? What signs are you seeing,

(03:08):
Dan that you believe that this team can rally and
and get this thing turned around in a hurry.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
We spoke before the during the break and before we
started the three and four nights about you know, us
went in two out of three and us get into
our best hockey in the last twenty four games of
the season, and I think you're coming off the break.
The Calgary win was a big one for us. To
further that. Florida was a you know, a great effort

(03:41):
and a hard fought game, a close game of which
we pulled out in one and a third period on
Karry McCann's game winning goal. Tampa Bay was, you know,
a really good game, one which you know, some of
the benchmarks we're looking for at for in our game,
offensive own time and minimizing defense zone time. We had
a a benchwater mark in that game and being in

(04:02):
the offensive zone, had eighteen scoring chances for their sixteen.
Fortunately didn't win the game, but I thought it was,
you know, another sign, another good game from us stringing
them together, and you're gonna have to take the Saint
Louis game as a one off and get back to
playing which we want to be our best hockey here
and win some mockey games. And ultimately that's in us

(04:23):
in order for us to get back in the picture,
we just have to win some hockey games. We have
to keep stringing them together. We won the two in
a row. Now with a loss of Saint Louis, that's
two in a row we've lost. We just we got
to get back to win the hockey games Vancouver coming
up of Minnesota the next week. And you just got to
keep putting two points in the bank. Two out of
three is what you can expect. And if you keep

(04:46):
putting banks, you try to claw yourself back into being
you know, seven points down, five points down, and you know,
with fifteen games to go, if we can get to
that point or somewhere close to that, we'll still be
playing meaningful games. Cracking ahead.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Coach Dan Balisma joining us here, and we got a
taste of the future at goalkeeping, maybe the distance future
at goaltending for the for the crack and tell us
your your opinion of Stesk and Coco's performance.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Testez. You know, Ste's took his his inaugural rookie lap
there in Tampa Bay as first NHL as will always do.
But he's a more seasoned goalie professional goalies, twenty six
years old. He's was over here in North America early
on in his career and then went back home and
played pro hockey there and now in his second year

(05:38):
in our organization, and I think he, you know, he
earned that opportunity to start that game. And I was
really pleased and happy for him. He's been coming a
long way in the last year and a half as
a goalie, and I thought he put up a tested performance,
but a really good performance in Tampa Bay and stood
tall and started with the first save of the game.

(05:59):
He had Kuturev coming now on the flank and had
a big save there. I made three or four other
huge and big saves in that game. Looked really solid,
really good. Gave us a chance to be in that game. Coco.
You know, as said, talk about young goaltenders, and you know,
in the in pro hockey, the two hundred game mark

(06:21):
for a goalie is is kind of when a lot
of goalies have emerged as full time NFL Joey's joyed
accords is an example of that. There's plenty of other
examples of that, and and Coco got a lot of promise,
a lot of vibrato love, the confidence and the kid
he's in still in the young, you know, young stage
of his career. It's under fifty pro games, and you know,

(06:44):
it's done, won some games in CV this year and
is really kind of showing some sparkle and showing some
shine in doing so. But last night I thought it
was a great uh, you know, not a great situation
for the team obviously, because he goes in when it's
six to nothing, but it was a good time for
him to go into the game without any pressure with
that on any spot, without having to worry about to

(07:04):
start got in there, just to be able to go
in and play and show what he can do and
be it in a bad spot. But that was what
the opportunity presented for him, and it was a good
thing to see him get in the game.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Well, Dan Bilsma was with us and hopefully some reinforcements
for you guys coming soon. What's going on with Yannie Gord?
What's the latest on him that you can share with us?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Coach? Yeah, Yannie is you know, wearing a red jersey
right now, which obviously means no contact situation for him.
He is, you know, doing well in his surgical rehab
that certainly has prescribed. He's a little bit head of schedule,

(07:47):
a little bit, I'll just say, just because he's skating
now every day, he's had a practice back with a
team in a morning skate be it in Saint louis
progressing really nicely, and hopefully we can see him maybe
progress in the next five to seven days to getting
out of that red jersey and putting on a blue
and teal one and getting back into practice of the

(08:09):
guy which will lead to maybe a game down the
road here next week.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Well, coach, before you go, we'll leave on a lighthearted note.
Dan Bousman with us. I'm sure you caught the Four
Nations final unbelievable match over the weekend between the Canadians
and the Americans, and I'm just curious if that even, like,
you know, lightheartedly divided your locker room, you know, between
the Canadians and the Americans. How much did your guys

(08:35):
get into that thing.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Lots of discussion, I'll say, for sure. And always always
always divided, you know, always divided. There's usually you know,
we have we have USA wearing jersey guys and Matti verniers.
You know, we have jersey wearing guys from the Canadian side,
Jordan every so there's clearly some divided. I wouldn't say

(08:59):
attention because it's usually and mostly good hearted and there's
usually a side bet here or there. There was, you know,
I'll say super super excited about how meaningful the tournament
was and how big of the games were. And we
were in Florida for the final game there between US

(09:20):
and Canada. Went out to a restaurant slash bar, and
every TV in a Florida Fort Lauderdale restaurant and there
were twenty of them had the game on, and there
were US fans and there were Canadian fans. There were
US jerseys and Canadian jerseys. There was a couple of
one dollar bets. No I can't I say that out loud.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Not with you you no, no, no.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
There was some handshake bets, a few prop bets on
the start of the game for that final you know,
so I the energy and the excitement and how awesome
it was that tournament was was just I think great
for hockey in general. And you know, the Ron Francis
team Canada side, they won those handshake bets for that

(10:08):
final game.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
I got you there, we got you.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
There was some division. There was some division in the
coaching room as well. Well.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
We got Part two coming up this weekend Vancouver, Seattle,
and if you want to wait nine seconds before your
boys drop the gloves with those bastards on Saturday, IBL four,
So go get them and let's turn this thing around
with talking a week, all right.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Thanks an okay, okay, guys, thanks all right.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
