Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
What do you say we get away from this for
a second, go across the street to T Mobile Park,
joining us right now on the radio show. He's going
to make his debut on Saturday against the A's Mariner
starting pitcher Bryce Miller is with us on the radio
show from T Mobile Park.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Bryce, how are you? What's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
How are you good? Good?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Thanks for doing this, man, I appreciate it, dude. Everyone's
all fired up. Mayn Opening day is a special special time.
What about for you guys? You got a six month
marathon now a six month slog coming starting today.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
What does today kind of mean to you guys in
that clubhouse? Man?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah, for sure, we're all fired up to be back.
I think I think I saw earlier. We have the
second most returning players out of every team in the league,
So it feels good. You know, there's a lot of
familiar faces in the clubhouse, and we all all share
a common goal. So we're ready to go, ready to
get back and get after it.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
How long does that juice, that excitement lasts before it's like, okay,
now we're into the season now and it's day to day.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Uh, for for us, us starters. We you know, we
only played once a week, so I'd say probably once
we get two or three ins, then it's kind of
back to the grind. But the position players, the hitters,
they get they get in there every day, so I'm
sure it takes a little a little bit less time
for them. But no, we're all we're all excited and

(01:24):
ready to go and ready to see Logan go out
there and throw it today.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, I know that when Bryce Miller is with us
across the street and Bryce, I remember Dick and I
were talking about this a year ago and looking at
the year you were having and we kind of noticed that, Man,
this guy's pretty damn consistent. And I just went and
looked at the numbers before you came on, and I
know you can't do this, but I'm gonna do it
anyway to make you look good. If you took out
your worst three starts from a year ago, you had
thirty one starts. Okay, if you took out your worst three,

(01:49):
you had a two two three ERA in twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Eight games last season.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Like to use a golf analogy, if you can just
avoid the triple bogie, it's unbelievable. I mean, me about that,
tell me about how consistent you were and how you
try and maybe clean that up a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, for sure, I wish, I wish they'd give us
a mull again every every now and then. But but yeah, no,
it's uh, it was. It was a really good season
last year, you know, especially circling the second half. For me,
it was really good. That was my focus going into
the year was to to finish the year strong, and
I think that was that was the better half of

(02:27):
my year, And going into the last game of the year,
I felt felt good, and body felt good and everything
felt felt really good overall. So you know, going into
this year, it's just continue the consistency and try to
limit those blow up starts and look up at the
end of the year and I think we'll be in
a good spot.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
So you were a two pitch pitcher coming out of college,
a seven pitch pitcher last year, and did I read
where you're adding an eighth pitch now?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Do you get a cutter now? Is that right?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Uh? Yes, I'm I added a cutter at the end
of the year, but it wasn't very good, so I
just kind of upgraded it a little bit i'd say,
so I still have seven but okay, But yeah, it's
a big, big jump from from twenty twenty three when
I got called up and it was you know, fastball
slner only and mainly mainly fastball. It was really mainly
a one pitch guy. But yeah, no, I've put a

(03:21):
lot of work in and added a bunch of stuff,
and I feel comfortable with all of my pitches. So
I think there's a lot of ways for me to
attack hitters and get guys out. So, like I said,
I'm excited for this year and ready to put together
you know, thirty two and plus some postseason starts.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Well, Bryce Miller's with us, and dude, you just brought
up what you did in the second half. I just
took a quick peak at your second half numbers, and
holy hell, I mean maybe it's you. They should have
given the big contract too, and not cal Rawley.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
By the way, Wow, are you kidd me?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
I mean one ninety ra And this is the time
of the year where we can talk about numbers. Once
the season starts, we'll stop doing this. Point eight war
one e r A. Tell me about the confidence that
you picked up in the second half of the year
that you think you can carry over into this year.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, it was big for me. I think it was
you know, I was able to sustain success for you know,
the whole second half of the year last year, and
day in and day out, you know, go out and
give us give us a chance to win, and that
that's at the end of the day. That's my goal
is to keep us in games, getting deep into games
and and keep us there, you know, for for us

(04:32):
to to take the lead at some point. So it's
I think it's a lot easier whenever I do have
I have cow behind the plate, and I have you know,
the four other starters surrounding me, and they're also you know,
successful every day, so it makes it a lot easier,
you know, pitching whenever you have greatness around you. So

(04:53):
I learned a lot from all of our other our
other guys and just try to go out there and
and compete in attack and h uh that's my plan
to do that again and and look up at the
end of the year and uh be in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Mariner starter Bryce Miller joining us here on ninety three
point three KJRFM. You mentioned cal there obviously a big
day a couple of days ago for Cal and talk
about your on field relationship with Cal. I know, he
kind of treats every picture a little bit different and
kind of he kind of gives you some crap, doesn't
he all all the pictures, he gives some crap when
he goes to the mound at times.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, he does. He he's he's good at that. He
kind of uh, he keeps it light on the mound
kind of like, uh, which I don't I don't have
any brothers, but I feel like it seems like a
brother relationship when he runs, when he runs out there.
But no, he's he's great back there. You know, I

(05:47):
trust anything that he calls, and you know, he works
his butt off every day to to be available and
to to be ready to go. So he definitely deserves
deserves that that extension he got. I'm glad he's here
for for the next few years.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
All right, Well listen before you go, though, Bryce, Bryce
Miller's with us.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
We got it, we got it.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
This is just us three talking, Okay, regarding Cal So,
he gets the big contract extension on Tuesday, and then
all of a sudden, conveniently Wednesday, he doesn't feel very good, well,
no kidding. What do you think he went out and
did on Tuesday night? Af forgetting a hundred five Are
you buying that that he had food poison eager to
cow just maybe kind of get after it a little
bit after getting a hundred million bucks guaranteed?

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not sure what he did. I
know last week he spent some time at the steakhouse,
and so he was spending money last week at Mastros
down in Arizona.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
So there you go.

Speaker 3 (06:44):

meat sleds.

Each Row is warming up the wing out there for
the first pitch.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
I want over under miles per hour on the each
Row first pitch to Dan Wilson.

Speaker 3 (06:59):

like ninety two or something? Yes, yes, yes, yeah, I'll
set it at ninety and I'm taking over.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
He's also fifty two years old. By the way, Hey,
you're a you're an A and M guy, right, Texas.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
A and M guy. You're an aggie, Yes, sir, you're
rooting for Texas Tech tonight. Against Arkansas.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, I'll cheer for him.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Wow, look at you.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yeah, I don't. I don't have any I got nothing
against Texas Tech. As long as the the Longhorns aren't
in it that I'm good.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
There you go, I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
On the same conference, Hey, good stuff, man, go get
him have a hell of a year.

Speaker 1 (07:40):

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Yes, their appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
You bet. Bryce Miller with us on the radio show.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, delayed meat sweats, he said, that's that's more likely.
That might be an official designation. By the way, on
the injury list, he's out with delayed meat sweats. After
getting one hundred million dollars on Tuesday, all right, we're
gonna break Brett Boone.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
We'll see if.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
