Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Duke of Duke Seafood, and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it a Duke's Night tonight. Reserve your table today at
Duke safood dot com. Now back to Safti and Dick
on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
You know, there really is only one reason why I
was rooting for the Sounders against Minnesota last night.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
You guys know what, they won, only one because we
like Brian Schmeitzer.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
I just wanted Brian to be in a good mood. Yeah,
this segments a very sense.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
There's usually in a good mood even after a loss.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, but if the season, if the season ended, and
you know, I'm just a very sensitive.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Guy, and I'm not sure I could handle that.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
So I'm glad they won because I was just thinking
about this segment the entire week and I was frightened.
Thank god you won. Actually, man, you kind of kicked
their ass last night. I mean, dude, you scored two
goals in three games against Minnesota this year and then
you go bananas for four last night.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
What the hell happened?

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Well, I'm a little disappointed to hear you were nervous
or worried. Did I be in a bad mood? I mean,
you gotta have confidence in your hometown team. And I
had a load of confidence in the guys because I
watched him train all week Softy, and they were focused.
They were laser focused. I mean, we made some tweets. Look,
we brought Musaski on. I think that was the right move,

(01:14):
and man, guys were into it from the first couple
of minutes. The crowd was into it because you know
the little you know, the goalkeeper wasting time already in
the first two minutes of the game, and you know,
Christian was a little bit of a high elbow near midfield.
So game got intense very fast, and it was a great,
great outcome for us.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
So how do we carry this over?

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I mean, obviously Minnesota's seen the tape, but go in
depth with us exactly what you did with your attack
to make it work so well in this one.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Well, I think putting Masaski up there and playing Jordan
Dick it was He's not a true winger because we
don't want him out wide all the time. I want
him to be connected to Masoski, and so he's kind
of on the inside shoulder of the left wing back
and the left center back, and he's got to play

(02:03):
in that space. And Jordan did an excellent job. He
was the one that got in behind for the first
corner kick whorl Bed scored, and he did a lot
of good things. Yeah, and having a striker in the
middle like Masoski, it really paid off.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Am I the only guy that every time I hear
the name Missovsky, I think of the movie Monsters Incorporated.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Do you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, Mike.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Every time I hear that name, I think Mike Wazowski
from Monsters Incorporated. But Brian Schemetzter is with us, all right,
So how much of last night was about strategic changes?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
In your mind? Honestly, give yourself a pat of the back.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Maybe the coaching staff versus the guys in the field
kind of just figuring it.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
The hell out.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
I think it's a mix fifty to fifty. I think
they were energized when we rolled out such an attacking lineup.
I think Jordan, you know, he likes having help up
there sometimes being a loan center forward sometimes, you know,
it's hard work, so having a guy up there. But
you're right, Softy. I mean, the guys were up for it.

(03:07):
They didn't want to go home. They didn't want to
lose to Minnesota, certainly not in front of the home fans.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
So do you think Minnesota adjusts to your adjustments or
do they just continue to play their lame, boring soccer
that got him wins a couple of times against you guys.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
That's a really good question, Dick, because I really don't know.
I mean, he said in the press, Eric Ramsey's a
good guy, nice guy like him. He's good coach.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
He says, you know, we are who we are.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
But after he took four and he allowed us to
get on top of him with that type of intensity,
he's going to have to come out a little bit more,
at least at least that's what I think.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, So Brian schmatches with us, and Brian you may
have noticed that there's this kind of thing going on
over at you dub and really in college football where
players can leave whenever the hell they want. So there's
always constant recruiting, right, constant recruiting of play used to
be back in the day, you guys on your roster.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
He's stuck there, He can't go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
But now every single year Jed Fish has to recruit
high school players and re recruit his own guys to
stick around. How much of that, honestly, are you doing
with Obad Vargas he scores.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Two goals for you last night?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Obviously there's going to be a lot of big money
offers coming in.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
When you have a free.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Moment every now and then, do you kind of go
over and tell him how great he is and how
good looking he is, and how much you love and
appreciate having him in Seattle. How much do you feel
you have to almost constantly recruit this guy to stay here.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Well, I don't know if it's exactly the same, but
you're going down an interesting path because look, it's out
there a little bit on some MLS channels. I poked
a couple of guys before the game, you know, I
poked some of the senior players, and I gave Obed
a little bit of a poke, you know, I said, hey,
you know what, I didn't think that first game in Minnesota.
You know, it was a good game, but it wasn't

(04:58):
be your best. And that tree, this kid in the
middle of a big, tall kid, you know, had your
number a few times and oh, bet responded and he's
got another level or two softy. So as much as
I would love to have him here and make a
career for himself like Christian, you know, I think he's
bound to try at least try to go to Europe

(05:22):
and maybe play at a slightly higher level. But you
just never know what happens. I mean, you know, he
might go there a couple of years and might not
work out for me come back, and we'd love to
we'd love to have him back.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Alex Rodan came off the field, left signed at halftime.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
What happened there? Was that an injury or just to
switch a role?

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Well, no was he Look he was feeling his growing
He had some tightness and his growing. But you know
the funny thing about that, Dick, I'll let you in
on this story, was you know, look we're winning three nothing,
and Alex was kind of motioning to the bench. It
was like, yeah, three nothing. I think you know, you know,
because he has been dinged up, and it was like, okay,
three nothing, I can kind of coast or I can

(06:03):
second half, I can kind of take it off. And
then they scored those two goals. So the conversation at
halftime was, you know, Alex wanted to continue. He didn't
want to, you know, he didn't want to come off
because they had he'd just taken two goals. But we
decided to be prudent even a one goal lead, even
with the two goals that we gave up. It was

(06:23):
the right thing to do to just take a few
miles off him because he's pretty beat up.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
How about Kim Keih How close is he to coming
back and giving you a big center back that you
can bring on at the end of games, at least defensively.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Oh softie. The guys are going to be fighting this
week as who gets on the plane to Minnesota, because
we've got basically everybody healthy except for Paul Ariola and
Pedro de la Vega. So guys are working hard at
training because they all want to be on the trip.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
All right, listen, man, great stuff.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Thank you for being in a good mood once again,
and I hope you're in a better mood even next
week when we on Tuesday show, So good luck. On Saturday,
go kick their ass. You're bringing Jackson with you, by
the way, you know that he's gonna be on the plane.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Coming out and guess what, Softie, we're flying on the
executive charter plane. Well theater with the nice seats that
reclined back and to to to too. So Jackson's gonna
get a little spoiled.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Actually, how about this, Brian, you want to hear something crazy.
Jackson's gotta work. He's gotta work our show Friday, so
he's gonna fly commercial on Saturday mornings.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Ye hey Jackson, awesome.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Just great water rub it and coach boy awesome. Oh god,
I love it. All right, great stuff, Good luck Saturday.
We're talking a week.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Take care guys, all right.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Brian Schmetzer with us on the radio show. Great, great

it going. Every time I see Sean Miller, by the way,
you see a fat Steve Starkesian.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
You see the same thing I do.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Next time we see Sean Miller, Texas is playing right
now on ESPN. So I just had that thought jump
into my mind, and it was such a great thought
I thought I had to share it with you. Jim Boden,
what's the market going to look like for Josh Naylor?
What will it take to get Trek's Scubalt out of Detroit,
and maybe to the mariners. Jim Boden gonna join us
