An email from listener Nick B in Illinois inspired Larre to get back in the recording studio and share some memories of his early deer hunts as a teen in Michigan. Larre just returned from his "second annual" snow goose hunt in Mound City, Missouri, so he tells some highlights from that trip.

We have a new format and scheduling plan. When we receive an email from a listener, we'll read the email and then Larre will tell a sto...

The cold snap kept Larre off the ice for a while, but he gives an update on his ice fishing successes. Then he tells about an August hunt on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula with his brother Tuck. They were after sheep and goats, but that's not what they went home with.

Larre has survived his recent ice fishing excursions onto the barely-frozen lakes of Minnesota. Today he tells about a deer hunting trip where he did not bag the largest buck, but will take credit for it anyway.

Larre went moose hunting with his brother and 5 boys age 10 and under. The moose stalk was not the most exciting part of the trip. A life-threatening ATV accident and lost treasure were the most memorable events.

Hunting deer in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and some ducks in Washington state. Driving the Alcan in late October (black ice and all). In between all that, a little surgery for more bionic parts.

Larre was consumed with hunting and other adventures for the past many weeks. He's finally come home to roost long enough to record an update on what he's been doing. Thanks for your patience in waiting for this episode! We are back on our we...

Larre, Tuck and 5 boys under the age of 9 hiked up a glacier to see what they could see. And all that they could see was a record-size black bear. Armed with 5 bb guns, one rifle with no ammunition and one rifle with ammunition, the intrepid hunters took on the challenge.

Larre also describes his procedures for making European mounts when he did some taxidermy as Classic European Mounts.

Larre and his brother Tuck flew from Kodiak out to Afognak Island near the Shelikov Straits for a 10-day hunt at the end of April. They wanted to stay in a Forest Service cabin, but the float plane had to put them ashore 10 miles away, because the bay was iced in. They also encountered blizzard conditions while hiking. This was the easy part.

We crossed the north edge of the Gulf of Alaska to reach Montague Island, where we spent Day Two and Day Three of the 8-day cruise.

As we were anchored in Macleod Harbor the evening of Day Two, Cherie gave a report on our wildlife sighings while she was fishing for halibut at the stern of the Best Friends. She and I thought we'd seen Dall porpoises but we learned later they were harbor porpoi...

The recap of Day Four was recorded the following morning because Joyce had been a bit under the weather. We tried several locations on a hunt for rock fish along the south end of Montague Island. The seas were a bit rougher, but that didn't slow down the fish. Larre described some of his fishing equipment and technique, and we also got the first update on the Epic North Pacific Cribbage Tournament. We wrap up the morning discu...

Day Six started with a breakfast that included halibut cheeks, and some close encounters with a sea lion. We fished for rock fish and halibut off of Elringon Island then finished the day by cruising west back to Driftwood Bay. It was a late day, and Larre was a little tired when he had a little mix-up while cleaning fish,

On Day Seven we spotted goats near the mountain tops of Driftwood Bay, and se...

This is the first of four episodes reporting on our 8-day cruise from Seward to Montague Island, which is about 65 miles east across the northern edge of the Gulf of Alaska. We anchored up every night in quiet bays, and spent the days fishing for salmon, rock fish, salmon, halibut, and more salmon.

The last night of the drive from Minnesota to Alaska -- Larre and Joyce made it to Seward on the sixth day of travel. Unfortunately, a problem with the boat kept them busy that evening, so they didn't record a recap of the last day of travel until a couple days later. Also, Larre reminisces about living in a cabin along the Chickaloon River north of Palmer.

Larre and Joyce headed north to Alaska by car. This episode is their log of the six-day trip. Well, actually, it covers the first five days, as the story of the final day got a little long. That's episode 29.

They recorded each night at these stops: Rugby, North Dakota; Vegreville, Alberta; Fort Nelson, Yukon; Squanga Lake campground, Yukon; and Eagle Trail State Recreation Area in Alaska.

An "easy" hunt for blacktail deer along the coast turned out to be more challenging than expected, and chilly.

Our Park PSA was suggested by listener Hannah from Western Australia, who told us about Lane Poole Reserve in Dwellingup. Looks like a great place to go bushwalking.
