Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody after the show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I had such a great Mother's Day weekend, Murphy.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
I don't even think you were, Like, I didn't even
expect it to be this great, and it's been one
of the best I've ever had. What happened over the well,
it was Saturday morning. I woke up and you know,
Saturday is the day that I can take for myself
if I really want to, not that I have to anymore.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
That was something I did when the girls were little.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, you know that place in motherhood with their calling
your name constantly, You just need a break.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Give you that mental break, but then you still get
to enjoy the quality time with them on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Well, I don't really need that anymore. They're not even
at home very much.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
What about a break from uh, you know who.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Anyway, So Saturday, no, Saturday, I went and I spent
some time with some friends, and I had coffee with
my uncle Terry, which was fantastic, and then I spent
time with my mother and Murphy joined.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Us for that too.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
But it's the other little stuff that it was great.
But it's the other little stuff that I just it
made it so fantastic. So on Sunday morning, on the
weekend mornings, our dog Champ.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Wakes me up first.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
He comes to the bedside and he starts talking to me,
and I get up quickly because I don't want him
waking up Murphy and I like my early morning alone time. Anyway,
drink my coffee in silence. It's fantastic, so I But literally,
as soon as I heard Champ go on Sunday Mother's Day,
Champ goo, I start to move and Murphy's up.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
You stay in bed. I'm going to feed them.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
That was so sweet. It was so very sweet much
to have to get up out of the bed to
take care of all of this.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I was awake though I'm laying there going okay, try
to go back to sleep, try to sleep late.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
And I couldn't do it.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
So did you get breakfast in bed too?
Speaker 3 (01:45):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I did not get breakfast in bed. But but Murphy
did make.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
One year at a time please.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
On Saturday, when I was sitting there having coffee with
my uncle Terry, and like, this is twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Minutes from our house. It's you know, it's out in
your neck of the woods.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Sam.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
He's he's a he used to be a police officer.
So when we have coffee together somewhere, he always faces
the door, and I know to face away parking spots always, always,
there's a million other things. He'll walk into a room
and scan everything. If anything looks suspect, he's all over it.
But while we're sitting there just talking, I see his
(02:21):
face light up because somebody had just walked through the door.
And I turned around and it was Taylor. It's like, Taylor,
what are you doing here?
Speaker 1 (02:29):
It was so cute.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
And she had seen on our Life three sixty that
I was there. She was also running Mother's day errands.
I've learned since that she was, you know, doing stuff,
but she saw that I was there, so she And
when your kid surprises you, it's spectacular, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
And she only so funny too that she surprised you
because of Life three.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Sixties, which she hated when it was first put on,
when we first got it as a family, So that
was nice. It was just gave her the biggest hug,
and it was just bonus that I got to sit
there with her for a little while too. And then
she left because she had to work that day. And
then you know, Sunday morning with with Murphy with the dogs.
And then when I am having my coffee on Sunday morning,
(03:10):
I had posted to Facebook. I was online. I got
this text from Phoebe, our youngest. Hey, mom, I love
you so much. In fact, we actually have a new
saying with each other because she texted so early.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
She woke up and text me.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
First thing it was I love so much and then
she said Mack, I mean I love you so much.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
So our new thing is I love so much.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
She then sent the second text, Can I come see you?
And you know this morning?
Speaker 4 (03:37):
No not today?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
It was like, yes you can, and she literally rolled
up ten minutes later, just wanting to hang out and
we had plans for later. Yeah, well you know, and
they didn't tell me where I when we're going to eat.
And you have to know, Murphy, that I was. I
would have been happy with anywhere we would have gone.
But where you took me and the girls is where
(03:59):
I wanted to go. It was where I was secretly
hoping for Mexican food. Oh yeah, my favorite, one of
my favorite places. And it was just fantastic. When we
I didn't even know where we're going. We're in the
car it's just And as soon as you made that
right onto that street, I was.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Like, yeah, you can only take a food surprise so
far unless you blindfold the person who's well, they did
that to me a long time ago for a surprise
birthday dinner or something.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Linfolded you. I didn't think you enjoyed it very much.
I think you felt kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
But well, my sense of direction is pretty good, though, so.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
You know, you should have gone around in circles a
little bit. But it was just so spectacular and I
had no expectations of it either. The girls are busy,
there's a lot going on in their lives right now.
They just finished up this semester at school. I just
didn't expect so much attention to be paid. But they
brought me presents. Murphy got me a presence, some perfume
that I'd wanted that I wasn't expecting.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
But honestly, the highlight and it doesn't matter. They're I'm
so blessed that they still make homemade cards for me.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
That's pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Yeah, Taylor says, Happy Birthgiver's Day, that's what she calls it.
It's nice, you know, I don't know, it's just a joke,
and it's just all these sweet words, personal words, and
she calls it mother magic and they cut it's like
I'm casting a spell, like I'm magical. It's just so
innovative and it's real pictures that they've cut out and done.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
And then Phoebe.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Greatest Mother of Dragons and Goons on the front and
on the inside, I'm sansa. It's my face cool, and
Champ is next to me and she said, and that's
your dire wolf.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Oh yeah, your dire dog.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Like she didn't have to give me candles and body
wash and lounge pants, but she did because this this personaltive.
And on the back, winter is coming a vigil. Yeah,
that is where it's at. And I know Mother's Day
has passed, but with Father's Day coming up, it doesn't
matter your age if you give your parent something this
(06:08):
personal with heartfelt feelings. Like the words, I won't read
them because that's personal between her, the girls and me.
I won't read them here, but beautiful things to be said.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
The bottle of perfume will eventually run out. The earrings
may or may not break at some point, you know,
the body wash will be used. All those things will
be gone. But those two, oh my god, they go
in that little keepsake box with all the other things
that are and this was special.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
The truth about it is this when kids are little
and they don't have money to spend and they do
this sort of thing for you where they give their
time and they cut construction paper and they do art.
That's them loving you. That's them giving you love with
all they.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Have to give. At this age.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Taylor and Phoebe did not have to do this. You know,
they could have rolled in with a gift card or nothing.
They could have just gone to dinner and I would
have been fine. But they spent time on this That
means the world to me. It makes me feel like
I need to reciprocate and not make a.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Car for the car.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Well.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Taylor's graduation is this weekend. It makes me.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
It's the reminder that it's the personal gift that always
wins like. It makes me think I want to write
her a letter because that's more personal than anything I.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Could give her.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
You know. It's fabulous. So these are my favorite things.
And the perfum urph and the letting me sleep late.
Trying to let me sleep late was so super sweet.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well, I felt the love.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
It's the reason that my grandmother always said, you know,
don't get me anything. You understand that when you finally
become a mother, a dad, or what have you. Right exactly,
But it's just the time is better than anything else.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yeah, possible.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
And I took my mom.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
We took my mom to lunch on Saturday, and I
took her shopping like it was just the two of us.
And she enjoys that. Yeah, you know, we hit a
couple of little stores together. Not enough to wear her out.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
It was just enough because.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Towards the end of it, she's like, where are we
going now? I said, I'm kind of tired. She goes good,
me too. The time together and you had that this weekend, jendy.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
So what's funny is my mom also when I had
the bags, I got there before she did at the restaurants.
I had the bags sitting there with her gift in it,
her Tom Sellick book.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah what's this?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
You already treat me to lunch. That's a gift. I
don't need another gift on top of gift.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
It's like, yeah, yeah, mom, we do this every year.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Why do you think she does that it's her the flexus,
it's her doesn't want you to do it.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
But well, it's always she doesn't want me to spend
the money. She doesn't want me to travel, you know,
the hour and a half to see her. She doesn't
want me to this, doesn't want me to that. She's
been that way her whole life.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well, she actually does. She wants to see you.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Oh I know, but she also she's already texted me
today too. What can you send me those pictures again
from lunch?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Very good.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
See she's thinking about it. Did you ask if she's
reading her book yet?
Speaker 4 (09:04):
No? No, I'm going to give her a little bit
on that one.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Oh I don't think you'll need to. It's about Tom Selleck.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Yeah, well you'll actually know it from her if she
starts reading it.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Did you know that? Right?
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Exactly? That's exactly what she's going to do.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Well, I will say this. I'll wrap this podcast with this.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Murphy, I almost you and the girls made it so
fantastic for me this weekend over above and beyond. I
wasn't expecting as I was so sweet. I almost feel bad.
I was waiting for this because Father's Day weekend. I
will be out of town.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I know, I knew you will be, but you know.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Me, I think ahead.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
You'll have lots of surprises from our girls and from me.
You just won't be able to get you know, I
just won't be there to present them.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
It's okay, missed any part of the show.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Get it all on the Murphy, Sam and Jody podcast.
