Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody after the show podcast
and oh thank you, Jody. You know, once we get
done here, we'll be done with traveling finally, I guess
we pack this stuff up and get out of here.
But yeah, so, but before we had out, you know,
one thing with packing and traveling, it was so the guy,

(00:21):
the TSA agent, the TSA agent who was helping the
other day, was an interesting guy to me because, okay,
when we travels a little behind the scenes for you,
when we travel, if the three of us are traveling together,
which we don't do on vacations, you know, we do
all these business trips. Yeah, we have to bring our
equipment with us, right, so it's three of us. That

(00:43):
means three microphones and a little you know, mixer and
all that stuff. Everything we bring with us to be
able to do this. And so it's a fifty to
fifty shot that the case I bring is either going
to get stopped and searched or sail right through. And
it did not sail right through this time. You know,
I'm going through and all of a sudden, you know,
here comes my backpack grade and then all of a sudden,

(01:05):
I see the other one coming in the conveyor belt
shifts suddenly, Yeah, it gets dumped over into another area.
I'm like, oh, here we go.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
What's funny is you're always carrying that. Murphy always carries
the equipment, and that's fine. He's very protective of all
equipment and electronics. But you're also double jeopardy at security
because of your insulin pump. So you your person gets
stopped and scanned double triple salm, and I are in
the food court.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Don't travel with me. I'm going to be a menace.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And then then.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
What you're carrying when we travel for work for the show,
equipment gets.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
What specific thing that they see that they were interested in.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So this is what was crazy. The guy was like,
he was kind of giddy at first. The t SE agent.
He says, I bet I know what this is.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I'm like, no, you don't it. What was his guy?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
So he says, he says, no, I'm a gamer. I
bet you I know, but I still need to search anyway.
But as a gamer, I think I know what this is.
And I said, but you think it's a PlayStation yeah,
And he's like, no, no, no, I think that these
are microphones. I forgured I would wait and let him see.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I wasn't.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
I was going to say, yes, you're right, and I'm like, no,
I let him enjoy the excitement. When he opens the case.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
I have to say, yeah, he sounds super excited.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Pants, what kind of microphile?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Now it's my pet python is wrapped around him right now.
But when he opened it up, he saw that, you know,
it was just the microphones and all that kind of stuff.
But I guess he says, he said, yeah, you know
the thing about these these just don't look good on
the camera. They don't look good on the scanner. They
just look suspect. And it's the type of microphones that
the three of us use, which are not unusual. They're standard,

(02:46):
you know, broadcast fare. But but anyway, but he was
all excited because as a gamer, he just knew it
was microphones and you know that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Funny, I didn't realize that was but he was going
on there.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
But he actually I was impressed because even the line
was moving slowly, he was really very methodical. I mean,
he was making sure that he was examining everything that
was coming to it. Just it reminds you don't bring
anything embarrassing through.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Guess what it is?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Just microphones and underwear.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
If you bring something through that's embarrassing, they're going to
see it. They know they've seen everything. They see it
on the scanner. They're not going to call you out
and talk to you about it, but they're going.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
To see it.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
You put the embarrassing stuff in your check bags.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
They still see it.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh, is that what you do?

Speaker 5 (03:32):
I mean, if I were to bring embarrassing stuff, it
would be in the check bag.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Your check bags probably get checked.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Harder, I'm sure, But I don't have to sit there
and go, oh, hold on, you don't have to.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Be all right. You have to witness it, So you
have to be embarrassed.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Right.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
They can talk about me all they want, but I
don't care.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
I'm telling you, it's a seapap mission. It goes on
my face, sir, I've seen seapaps.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Travel in itself is just so you just never know
that you can have such crazy experiences and there's so
many variables like whether we've had that and crowds, and
then you get an agent who's a delight or sometimes
the absolute opposite, you know, and they're just like No,
that's not where you walk through and you feel like

(04:15):
you're a child, you know.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
On my my Boston trip coming back, they pulled my
bag aside my my my backpack, my backpack that I
keep my computer out Carrie, and I'm thinking I have
some electronic stuff in there, but there's nothing weird. And
the guy reaches in and he pulls up my thermos.
I have a hydroflask. Oh, and I forgot to dump
it out. Of course it was full of water poured

(04:39):
in one of those pour out things and.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
They give you the evil eye, like, thanks.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
He gave you your flashback. Yeah, that's great.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
I don't know if you've been in the airports where
they have the thing before you go in the X
ray there's a thing that says.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Pour out liquids.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yes, I've seen it.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
It's like a garbage for liquids.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
I'm done it, Okay, this airport had one, but stupid me,
I'm like and then he so he took and he
went back ported out.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Because I had a leatherman confiscated once.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
That's a leatherman.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Oh, that's true. But I also had a weapon, Murphy.
I had a water bottle confiscated once. I couldn't pour
it out, not that I'm going to carry the bottle
after the fact, but still I'm glad to know that
he can steal your thermos.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
You talked about this not long ago about good for you.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
It's not a thermost, it's a hydroflyer.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
We had this conversation not long ago.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
TSA seems and feels different at every airport, but it's because, well, personnel,
every person is different you're going to deal with. But
it's the technological, it's the equipment. Some of them have
the creme de la creme equipment and some do not.
Some can see that you've got water in a what
do you call it? Hydrofls and some don't.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
This airport was cool because they had that thing Murphy
was talking about where the bags came out of the
X ray machine and if there was something suspect that
stopped and then roll over to the other line. Yeah,
and I was watching my bag and it didn't roll.
But it's like, oh, that's cool, do it.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
I would think that that would be a very cool
job for someone if you're so cute, like to me
at first, at least you'd be like, I want to
check that I want to be watching the scanners for
what's in the bags.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
It's an important job.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
Or Matt, if you've ever noticed they swapped the people
out like every ten minutes or so, because I'm sure
it gets tedious to just stare at that screen.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Well, and the margin of error probably goes up if
you don't change everybody out. Look, I don't mind. I've
never had any issue with being stopped or you know,
being what do you call it frisk? What's the term searched?
I don't mind.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I don't think of a couple of words.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I don't mean that. Yeah, but you know I would
write I would rather that's those sort of safety measures
be taken than anything else. And I've only had the
really deep search once, you know, I mean, and it.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Was bring it to a side room.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
It was deep. I actually was going to propose marriage
after that. But you know, but the the lady who
was in front of me the other day when we
were on our way here guts. I don't know if
you saw that, Jody, because you and I were almost
going through about this same time.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
You know, I'm not probably wasn't paying Jody's not.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
T s a pre check. I am We go our
separate ways we get back together, Sam, you know how
that works. But any but the lady in front of
me something something went off in or underwear. I don't
know what it was. Maybe it's it's.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Called shape wear.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
And when you women, that's what you mean. I thought
you mentioned you had chili before.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
No, it was it was the shape where we talk
about that. But it was the same thing. But the
thing is they actually had to bring a female agent
and searcher because of that, because they can't just take them.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Searched by female agents for the same reason. You just
weren't with me.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I guess, yeah, I know you have. I'm just saying
that's that's I saw that happen in front of me
the other day.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Those you know, it's because there's metal fibers in it,
I think, so tiny little things that make the machines
go wonky.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
And that's fine.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
And they always offer you would you be more comfortable
to do this in a side private area and I'm like, no,
it's fine, You're gonna do this to me here.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Just everybody wants their food and drink in that room.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Probably not.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, they didn't offer to this poor lady.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Different airports missed any part of the show.
