Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to part two of today's Murphy, Sam and Jody
Daily Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I saw the story that Amazon has a dedicated section
now to Valentine's Day shopping, and I guess that's probably
not brand new. If it is, yeah, smart, but you
like that.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
I mean that makes sense. Like Walmart. I haven't checked,
but Walmart, Target, they should all have a Valentine's section.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Oh, they do already. It's just exploding. So just if
you're looking for your partner or a friend or somebody
at work. You know, it's all kinds of stuff they're from,
like electronics or cozy things for the home, but it's
you know, it's all the stuff that's already there already.
They're just putting it into a Valentine's umbrella for it.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah. So that's food too, like candy.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
And probably I'm glad you mentioned that, Murphy. See I know, Murphy,
I wanted to say this. Valentine's ideas are everywhere. You
just have to know your person, whoever you're buying for,
It's already there, already everywhere you go.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
It is.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I walked into the drug store the other day and
I'm like, boom, boom, three and four things that Murphy
would love. And it's all those fun little snacks that
you don't see every day that you see at the checkout.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
You know, did you get them for him?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
No comment, but you know I always rock his Valentine's world,
especially at work. I mean, you always get snacks, which
you need anyway at your desk. Hello. Type one diabetic
needs to treat often, you know. So it's like, I
don't know, I just feel like it's just so it's
easier than you think.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
You mean, for anybody that's stressing about what to get.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, I'm not saying you wait till the very last minute.
But even if I did wait till the last minute
for you, I could walk into any drug store and
go a bag of sweet chili spice Doritos. That's a
treat for Murphy. He loves those. You know, the candy,
the the Reese's cups with the with the potato chips inside.

(01:52):
That's not an everyday thing for you, but it's specialty
and you really like it.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
You know what else? Like Walmart, And I know they
do this, but the day before Valentine's Day, maybe the
day before, they put all of those flower balloon Teddy
bear things like out front, so you can just sweep in,
grab your flowers and go.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah. But I'm just talking about knowing your person really well.
And it's easier than you think. Those gourmet chocolate bars
that people don't buy every day because they're four and
five dollars a bar, you know, stack those up.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
You don't have to try to top yourself every year either.
I think there's a lot of self imposed pressure around Valentine.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
The longer you're together, the smaller it can be. As
long as you remember a little something something.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Coming up next. Jody has three things to know today.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Here's three things to know today.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Brought to you by State Farm.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Number one word from the White House is that President
Donald Trump is considering dismantling the Department of Education and
would shift, you know, programs and other functions to other
parts of the government, dismantling some of it and moving
the power of education to the states and parents. Now,
dismantling a department like that would take an Act of Congress,

(03:03):
and they say, it's not like it's going to happen
right away. It is something that's been discussed. Number Two,
they say, a billion dollars spilled out onto an la
freeway the other day. And it's say, it might have
not been exactly a billion, but a tractor trailer carrying eggs,
one of the most expensive commodities on store shelves right now,
just crashed on an East LA freeway. The eggs were

(03:26):
just everywhere across the road.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
It's not the kind of thing you can hope a
few don't break.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
No, it's like all of them right before a rush hour,
closed off three lanes, but no injuries, just money.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Is it scrambled traffic?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Haha? Can you imagine having to clean that up?

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yea.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
And number three, a federal judge, the one presiding over
the public feud between actor Blake Lively and director Justin Baldonni,
is telling their lawyers this case needs to not be
so in the public. It's like, stop talking to the media,
stop right, just kind of can you your clients because
they need to follow the legal conduct rules and we

(04:05):
need to not contaminate a potential jury.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
You're in the know all three things to know today.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
I have a personal question for you there, Murphy.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Oh sounds dangerous.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Well, this can also apply to anyone who has children. Yeah,
and uh no longer drinks Okay, do you ever have
any look back and have any regrets about time you
wasted with your kids? I mean, I know, Jody, Yeah,
got it.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
That's a really good question. I don't think I got
to that place where I was doing that. I don't
think it became a replacement for my time with them,
although you know, there were times I would walk into
the bathroom, well Jody was bathing. One of the girls
is like, hey, Jody, this is the best margerita ever.
You wanted to make you one?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
And what did I say? Uh?

Speaker 1 (04:49):
No, yeah, I know, cancer, that's it. Really, it's my dad.
Did regret that my dad was spent It's gonna sound terrible,
but he spent most of my high school used. Yeah,
and many years later he was sober for thirty years
before he passed. But he did. He said that, you know,
I feel like I, you know, lost a lot of

(05:10):
years with you, and it's like, we had a good
time with you. You were still I mean, and he
was fun to be around. Does that answer the question you?
Is that something you deal with?

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah? I do feel I mean I have that regret
when I think about because it was their teenage years,
and for the little ones, it was their you know,
preteen years. I think about the stuff that I missed
out on because I was more interested in drinking and
sitting around the house, you know, while the kids were over. Now,
we did stuff right, But it's like.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
You're just saying you weren't fully present.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yeah, I wonder how much more I could have done
and how much more full my life would have been,
or is would be.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I think that's all a part of what you guys
are going through, is it not. There's the anger and
the acceptance and all that, and I'm sure there's regret
that has to be dealt with. Yeah, And I think
talking about is a very good step. Talking about with
Murphy is a very good idea someone else who's in
your spot.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Well. And the good news is you've come through it
and it's part of your past. And so the relationships
that you have, know with all your kids are better
than they've ever been.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
They're better, they've improved. They all knew where I was,
and I found out that, you know, they even though
I thought I was getting away with it, I knew
I wasn't when I talked to him. Now it's like
now we knew, and it's like, oh, that just adds
to it. I have an issue with the past and regret,
you know, getting over it, and I wish there was
a magic word that somebody could say forget about it.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, there's a lot of magic word, but you do
need to learn to forgive yourself.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, and acceptance doesn't mean that you approve of something.
It just means that you accept it.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
So listen to this. This is therapy today. Okay, Murphy,
A little warning for you about Phoebe's birthday dinner tonight.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Are younger, Our youngest turned twenty today.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Oh and so birthdays are a big deal dial in
our family. And we always let the birthday person pick
where they want to go eat to eat, and we
take them out to eat, and my mom comes along
and my brother they're coming, by the way, case, is
that the warning press they're coming.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Yeah, I'm just saying that's not the warning though.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
That's a delight, of course, it's a delight.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
In fact, that's exactly what I'll tell them when I
see them.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
That is a delight that you've joined us.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Know. The warning is I had this conversation with Phoebe
because I was trying to get it out of her
last night. You please tell me where we're going to eat.
She gets to pick, and she always waits till the
last minute to tell us where. She She likes to
take her time with what restaurant. But she said, well,
I'm really thinking of this one place that I like,
and she named it. I was like, yeah, that's delicious,
let's do it, she said. But she says, I need
you to understand I do not want the birthday. Oh yes,

(07:49):
and this is that place.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Oh wait, it's a Mexican restaurant where they bring the hat. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Not only that, I love the hat, this is where they.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Where they put the whip cream and smash it in
your face. I love that.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
She doesn't.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Actually, they smashed it my face and drew it around
my eyes.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
And I think they brought you a churo. Also.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I couldn't see it, but us it though.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Look, it's where she wants to eat. It's casual and
comfortable and delicious.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
You don't have to say anything. We don't have to
say it's a birthday as they say it's a special occasion. Nope,
just going out to eat.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
As long as my mom doesn't bring a bunch of presence.
She means it though, and I would just I just
don't want you need to know. We can't. The weight
staff can because they're so sweet there. If they over hear,
we're gonna have to keep it on the low that
it's her birthday if she chooses that, because that's one

(08:45):
thing I promised her that we wouldn't do it. She
made it a point to me to say that she
does not want that. I would be upset if it happened,
because she would be just beat red.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
To her mom though, because I could see somebody bringing.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
N iced tea for the birthday.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Girl, Happy birthday. Thebes. We'll see you tonight. Coming up
next to your Hollywood Outsider, Jody's Hollywood Outsider, brought.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
To you by All State.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
There's a movie that's streaming right now on Prime Video
called You're Cordially Invited, starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Welcome Home, cuddle Bug, Who's in the house, Daddy in
the house, Big Papa's in the house.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Well, people who get together at like a wedding. And
it's doing really well. In fact, it's the number one
movie on Prime right now. Okay, and so the director,
his name is Nicholas Stoller. You know him as he
teamed up once with zac Efron for the movies well
twice Neighbors and Neighbors too.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Ye, it's a fabulous neighborhood seth.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Also, Okay, so here's what's up. Will Ferrell and zach
Efron are teaming up for a movie from Nicholas Stoler.
So that same sort of comedy where zach Efron is
a newly freed convict who takes a reality TV courtroom
the whole courtroom hostage because he blames the TV judge
for him being locked up, and the TV judge is

(10:14):
played by Will Ferrell. It sounds fantastic, right, It's real fun.
It does sound like a really good combo. And by
the way, the next time we will see zach Efron,
he just wrapped production on something called Famous. It's a movie,
a dark thriller where he plays both a Hollywood star
and an obsessive fan. I don't know when and where

(10:34):
that's going to land, but I like it when he
does that too. He's great in comedy, but he can
also he can do it all.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I really enjoyed being with you on Facebook Live last week.
We do intend to do it again this week. I
just haven't picked the time yet, but I'll be there.
I'll pop up. So follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
What we were talking about last week on Facebook Live
was what to do on the day of your mammogram
to be read. And if you've never heard those things,
don't have caffeine because that can make you more it

(11:04):
can make it more sensitive, okay for the area. And
I had never known that. A dear friend of mine
who works in mammography taught me that, yes, you can
take you know, like tyalin or advil the day of
to make it easier on yourself. No, you're not supposed
to wear heavy lotions and deodorants, you know, right before,
because it can get in the way of the images,

(11:24):
right you don't want that. So just some stuff to know.
And so we were talking about it and there was
a lot of you know, comments coming in, but I
can't really stop and address it. Also, I wanted to
get to some of them from Facebook Live. Tracy sent
this April of twenty twenty four, I went for my
mammogram and early breast cancer was found. I had a
double mastectomy in June. Ladies, please get your yearly mammogram. WHOA,

(11:48):
that's a lot, Tracy, thank you for putting that in there,
and I hope you're doing well. That's a lot. I'm
you know, learning more and more about all of it,
and it's a lot. Patty said, mammograms are very important
for men. Also, you need to be aware of your
own breast health. My dear husband had two lumpectomies, thankfully
both benign. My daughter had one also benign. Thank you

(12:10):
for that, Patty. We love having you long also from
Facebook live the other I guess we ended up talking
about makeup too, see guys what you miss Apparently, yeah,
Becky said, I'm watching the replay Love popuf color on
the lips Wet Wild Marilyn Monroe Red lip gloss is
one of my faves. I have several wonderful girlfriends, but
three of them are like my sisters. We were talking

(12:30):
about girlfriends too. We celebrate and show up for each
other no matter what. So thank you for that. Macky.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
What wild Marilyn Monroe? That's just what she's calling it?
Or is there actually one name.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
That must be? Wet and Wild is a brand. It's
an affordable brand of cosmetics, and Marilyn Monroe Red must
be the name of the color.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Gotcha.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, so thank you, Becky. We love having you a
