Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the second half of today's Murphy, Sam and
Jody podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
That old saying we mentioned this the other day and
three things to Know today. That the old saying happy wife,
happy life sort of is true, is scientifically proven. But
I will tell you there's a lot of people who
push back on it.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
But well, you can say happy spouse in place of it, right,
I mean, it goes both.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Ways, that's exactly it.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
But there's no rhyme. Yeah, well that's true. It doesn't
right out the time, Sam, You're right.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It's not as cute if you hang up the sign
or whatever.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
How do you dig deeper than the statement though you get, Yes.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
You do, and if you have a lot of life
experience and wife experience.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I mean to Sam does have multiple wife experience. The
thing is it's about, you know, the deeper part of
it is if you're in a relationship that is good,
then that stressor is not there. If it's not correct,
then there's a low lying stress.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I remember years ago, before we were married, hearing probably
from my mother that the person that you married is
going to determine a lot of your day to day happiness. Yeah,
and then I remember having the conversation with her that
I'm responsible for my happiness though, and he will be
responsible for his happiness. Yeah, And that's also very true

(01:17):
and needs to be spoken about. Mare.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
And she took control of her own happiness, which is
great because the guy that she was married to that
wore the really tight golf shorts, you know, I mean
that's the Yeah. Yeah, when you can count the change
in the pocket, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
I'll just remind you, Jody, you brought up your mother.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
I know it's didn't done.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's she did take control of her own happiness in
her life.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
He's no longer in her life anyway.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Scientifically proven it works both ways. It works for husbands too,
if you if you live with someone who's happy and
you work on your own happiness, that's a big part
of it to me, And know that you're responsible for
your own happiness. You have lower cortisol cortisol I say
that wrong levels, which means your mood is just naturally elevated.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
But you know, healthier too.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
I was having that conversation with one of our daughters
the other day. It's kind of like, you know, one
of the best things you can do for your relationship
is work on yourself and that other person work on himself.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Welliot, and I think I mean from our experience Jody
being married, if things, if we get sideways with each other,
that stress is there. But you know, fortunately for Sam too,
that's not happened lately, and so good.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Really, it hasn't happened lately, been correct?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
All right?

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Coming up next, three things to know today. Here's three
things to know today.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Brought to you by State Farm.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Number One, it was close, but the US House of
Representatives approved a stopgap funding bill. I guess you saw
this to avert a potential government shut down. The vote
was two hundred and seventeen to two hundred and thirteen,
so yes, it was close.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
The bill now moves to the Senate. Anyway.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
This extends federal funding through September thirtieth, maintaining the fiscal
year spending levels. The deadline to pass the bill is
midnight on Friday, to avoid another government shutdown.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
OK, so they extended it.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Number two, the free ride is over at Southwest Airlines
for your bags. They announced it yesterday, no longer offering
passengers two free checked bags and it'll start soon at
the end of May. Yeah, they were the only ones
doing that. That was one of the cool things about
that airline.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, sit where you want and the bags are free.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
If you still want your bag to be free, you
have to be a Rapid Rewards, a list preferred member,
or a business Select passenger to get the perk.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
But it's a business model thing.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Other airlines made five billion dollars in bag fees just
last year, so it's a business.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
They're running a business.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
And number three, the United States is becoming a nation
of home bodies.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
And it's not just COVID.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
It was before that that we started to, you know,
steadily stay in more. They're saying technology is what's doing
it keeping us in more, But we're also lonely across
all age groups, lonely or because of it.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
So remember, get out, be social.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
You're in the note three things to know today.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
This is why you should never give up on a dog.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
All Right.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
You know my dog Gus, he's been ill for about
two years now. In fact, it was this month two
years ago he started having seizures.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
It's been two years since.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yeah, and you know I took him to the vet
and you got the well, you could do all this, this, this,
and this and this. Yeah, or we could just give
him pills because this usually works. And so he's been
on medication for two years. How many seizures does I
mean right now, he's it's about once every three weeks.
We'll have a seizure, and you can usually predict when
they're coming on he starts acting weird, you know, a

(04:45):
few minutes ahead of time, so maybe get ready for it.
But when I took him to the VET two years ago,
it was like, Okay, I'd given up. It's like, I
just prepare now because he's.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Gonna mentally prepare yourself.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Yeah, I mean, I an adult, as a grown up,
I've never had a dog. I'd never had to deal
with a sick dog before this sick, terminally sick, or
whatever you call it. So to me, it was it
was new, and I was depressed, I remember. But it's
like here it is years later, and he still hangs on.
I mean, right after he has a seizure, for the

(05:19):
first few hours, he's a little disoriented, and he seems
to get a little less smart with each one. Really, yeah,
but I've learned to adapt to it and enjoy the
fact that he's still there. I come home from work
every day, he's still standing there holding a toy. Oh god,
now he still starts doing zoomies. He'll go sit out

(05:41):
and he does something too now that he's never done before.
He'll go sit in the yard for like a half hour,
just sit down and just like he's out there looking
and I don't bother him because if he sees me,
he'll come in, so I just leave him out there.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
I'm going to throw this at you for a second.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Of course, you never give up on a dog, because
a dog would never give up on you. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah, it's weird. Even when they're in pain.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Or whatever, they are still still yours.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
They're amazing.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
That's why he's at the door with a toy. Yeah,
because he's doing He lives for you.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
And you know I've heard that, you know, once he
gets to that point, you know, do the humane thing
to take care of him.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
But it's like that's I keep waiting. Well, the thing is,
you know, and Jody and I've been through that actually
a couple of times, more than a couple eight or
nine times honestly over the years, because we've had so
many dogs and we always keep a lot of dogs
and it never gets easier, and you always air to
the side probably where it's just the side long, longer
than than we should have. But you know, you know,

(06:38):
you will know.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, you'll know because of his quality of life. If
he's sitting out enjoying the yard right now and bringing
you toys at the door.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
He's fine, he's good. So you're right. So don't give
up on Gus.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, don't lure him in with his last dog. Come on,
how about a trip to the vet?

Speaker 3 (06:55):
All right? Coming up next, Sam has music news.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Yeah, some trouble in court for Miiley Cyrus and her
hit song Flowers.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Sam's got music news, brought to you by t Mobile.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Miley Cyrus is in courts for a copyright infringement case
over her song Flowers.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
The same one is a new one, it's the same one.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
It's okay, copyright infringement off the Bruno Mars song when
I was your man.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Shame shame there.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
But it feels just a little bit big and that
I should have bought you flowers is the line.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
But okay, but this is not Bruno.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
That's suing no one of the There was four writers
on Bruno's song, and one of the writers sold his
rights to some company, and the company is the one
sue and Miley for copyright infringement. Now Miley's lawyers are
trying to stop it, saying, well, you got to get
all the people together and sue me. And the judges
now said, hang on a second, they may have a
point here.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Let's let this proceed, okay.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
So it looks like the case is probably gonna proceed. Unreal, unreal, uh, Jody.
I just want you to take a deep breath and
get ready for this this one. Apparently Rick Springfield has
brain damage from a fall twenty five years ago. He
was performing in Vegas in two thousand. He said he
fell twenty five feet and he'd remember hit his head.

(08:14):
A piece of wood came down and hit him again,
and then he hit his head on the stage again
and all he thought at the time was, oh, I
broke my wrist. Well for some reason, now he's decided
to get a full body scan MRI sure, and they've
determined that he has some kind of minor brain damage
from that fall twenty five years ago.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
And what is it impact? Did they know?

Speaker 4 (08:33):
He's not saying exactly what the impact is or how
he's going about treating it. But he says he is
addressing it or treating it.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Okay, that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
He doesn't look not that I know, not that I
would know. On the daily, yeah, but he doesn't. I mean,
I see what he posts.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
I follow.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
He's very active still.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
He's written books.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
Since breaking out albums and everything. He really is a
few more summer tours are coming outway. They were announced
this week. Cindy Lauper is going to have the final
part of her Girls Just Want to Have Fun Farewell tour.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Nice.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
That'll be July through August. Counting Crows have set a
tour for the summer. In fact, it's probably their first
tour to they get their first new album in over
a decade. All original, all original stuff and Onen Noona
is going to go on a Greatest Hits tour.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
No, she can do it all.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Three of these tickets are on sale this Friday.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Coming up next, Jody has your Hollywood Outsider.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Brought to you by Private Team Missed.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
For Marvel Universe fans who have been hoping for a
return of Black Widow, I've got some news for you.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
I've lived a lot of lives, but I'm done running
for my past. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Scarlett Johansson in that role is just a favorite.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Right.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Well, so she did this recent interview with InStyle magazine
and she said, look, I'm sorry, but she's dead.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Okay, she's dead. She's dead.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
She's not coming back. You need to we all need
to accept this character's death. And you know in Hollywood
they're like, but.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
She can come back.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
It's movies.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, Scarlet said, no, let she saved the world. Let
her have her hero a moment, meaning she's not going
back to it.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
But her dad and her sister are going to be
in Thunderbolts.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
So okay, that means nothing to move it. Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Also, moving on, I love Scarlett Johansson though, and I
love that she's she was a part of the Marvel universe.
Moving on, Disney Plus setting a streaming date for Mufasa
the Lion King.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Oh Simba. His story is full of challenges and victories.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Do you remember that this is a cgi prequel to
The Lion King. It's one of those that you could
almost watch this movie without the sound and be amazed
at the little lions and all the animals.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Okay, and that was in James Earld Jones.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Was it of course, I mean, of course not.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
It was wad enough that he had done it before
he passed.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
I don't think so. I think they imagineered that up. Yeah,
the way they do. Anyway, this is going to be.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
It star studded the voices filming. The film premieres on
Disney Plus on March twenty seve. You know, we love
having you along and we love hearing from you. And
we've got a message from Page about our after the
show podcast from yesterday, which was called protein.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Please all the list of things that.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Are good protein ideas for you to eat to feel
more full when you need protein.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
To replace eggs.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
To replace eggs is on the list.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Yeah, but we apparently had the wrong other thing on
the list.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yes, she says, Hey, love your show, but I have
a little correction. It's it is chia seeds like a
chia pet, not chai chai is delicious, but chia seeds.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Are what you will find in the stores. And she's right.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Our daughter Taylor corrected us too, Murphia, based on that
podcast protein, I don't.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Know how we got all twisted up on that, I
guess chai tea, and you know chia seeds, and well,
I just don't have the three of us here, and
none of us caught it.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
So chai tea is something I'm familiar with, and honestly,
I assumed that when I looked at the word chia
it was chai when we started talking about seeds. They're
two different things, though, So thank you Page for the correction.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
This is what she says.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
I love to make chia seed pudding with protein powder.
It's filling and a low sugar dessert or sweet breakfast,
so cool.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Thank you for that.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
And our oldest daughter Taylor also did tell me that
that's she's heard. That's good. Yeah, not only did she
correct us, she's heard of chia pudding pudding.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Sonia sent this, Hey, Jody wanted to follow up about
the chia seed. IM see, I'm saying it right now.
For chia seeds themselves, you don't need to refrigerate them.
Other ideas include baking with them and putting them in
your water as.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Is in water.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Chia seeds, once hydrated, act like a binder like eggs,
and it's a good way to replace eggs in baking.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
As far as drinking, goes.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
You can add a tablespoon or so to your water
or juice and let it sit for a little bit.
They plump up and kind of give your water a
little bit of jelly.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Texture, any flavor.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
I don't know about that. I will say that I
also saw online and thank you for that, Sonya. I
also saw online where you know we're talking about. You
can make chia seed pudding, which is kind of like
doing overnight oats.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
If you don't want to do milk in.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
The chia seeds for the pudding, you could do like juice,
like apple juice, and it tastes more like a sweet jello.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Yeah, but you're getting prep we're gonna start playing, right.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
I guess we're gonna have to play with them, because
not only do we all not know how to spell it,
we also don't know what it tastes like.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It's chia seeds, chi la te different things.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Yes,
