Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the second half of today's Murphy, Sam and
Jody podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Easy Easter Recipes.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
They still taste good and they're still there for you
at Murphysalmonjody dot com.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
I learned something this weekend in the Catholic Church. Okay,
Sam called the Easter Vigil Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
You went to church this weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah, that surprise number one. But number two, you went
to Catholic school. So how did you learn something new
that you didn't learn back then?

Speaker 5 (00:25):
I know eight years in Catholic school, and I did
not know about the Easter Vigil. It happens on Saturday night.
It's a three hour service.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, the reason I wound up there because you didn't
know that was the length of the service.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Lait a second, sixty minutes. We should be out of.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Here, trying to tone for something.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Now.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Maddie, my daughter, she was confirmed.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Oka.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
She's been going through this process for a while now,
and the confirmation happens on the Easter Vigil. Easter Vigil
is a three hour service. You start for the first
hour in the dark and everybody has canned.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Oh right, it's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I think I've been to one a long time ago,
well before Murphy, I was with somebody who was Catholic.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah, I have.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
I've never all my years, You're right, Murphy, and Catholic school,
I never knew about.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
The Easter vigil.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
That's beautiful.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
You spend the first hour in the dark.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Well, first of all, I walked in and it's it's dark,
and so it's like, oh wait, how am I going
to find.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Anybody in here? So I just picked the seat.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
But there's the dark, and then there's a like a reading,
different readings, and then there's baptisms and confirmations in the Eucharist.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
So for three hours, do you get to go to
the restroom? Do you they do? They serve snacks.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
I'm glad you think like me, Murphy, because before the service,
I texted Maddie. I was like, where are the bathrooms
in this place? So I made sure I sat, you know,
on an a seat so that I could get out. So, yeah,
you can get up and walk around.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Okay, close the doors and lock.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
So after the first hour of dark, then they then
they lighted up, right, light.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
It up, and you go through.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
It's not a regular mass though, there's not the regular
progression of the mass. And then all the people that
are getting baptized. I've never seen that in the Catholic
Church before too. That's beautiful that there was like seventeen
people and then the group with Maddie that got confirmed
and then they.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
All have their first yukre. Everybody the old church.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Does the huge question.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah when she was confirmed, did you get emotional?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh h I would have.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Oh no, I mean I was happy.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Doesn't go to church?

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Is this over yet?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Okay? Coming up next, Three things to know Today. Here's
three things to know today.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Brought to you by Home Depot number one by Now
you know that Pope Francis has died at the age
of eighty eight, and his last public appearance was yesterday
for Easter Sunday. He did the blessing and then he
died early this morning. So what happens now? The new
Pope will be elected by the College of Cardinals in
a private gathering called the Conclave, with no electronic communication

(03:02):
from the outside world. Cardinals will vote on secret paper ballots,
and then the ballots are burned and then the white
smoke signals a successful election of a new pope. It
can take hours, it can take days.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Amazing that he was still making public appearances until hours
before his passing.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Correct. I think that's really beautiful. Actually.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Number two today is the White House Easter egg roll.
And by the way, all the eggs, even with the
prices of eggs, the American Egg Board donates twenty five
thousand cartons of eggs and they've done that for like
half a century.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
So that's just.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Going with us on Sam.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
The egg roll is something that the English had done
for centuries. Okay, so the White House just continues that
tradition it was starting in eighteen seventy eight. And number three,
actress model Elizabeth Hurley seemed to confirm a romance this
weekend with Billy ray Cyrus.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
They met on.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
The filming of a twenty twenty two movie they did together,
a Christmas movie, and this is their first public He's
kissing her in the picture and her caption is happy Easter.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
You're in the note three things to know today?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Do you change the way that you speak depending on
where you are and who you are with? The answer
is yes, even if you don't realize it. Correct Now,
we all know that we know that Murphy does Murphy definitely, Sam,
you want to explain to him when he.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Does you mean the male versus female?

Speaker 5 (04:35):
Yes, oh, yeah, the guy you're just talking to man,
But the female you turn it on.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yes, you do, do I you turn on the Murphy charm.
Why you act like you don't know this? Maybe you
don't realize it.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
No, I really don't think I do any of.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
The Murphy loves the ladies, and the ladies love Murphy.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
And when if you were to receive a phone call
in here right now and pick it up, we would
all not be able to hear who you're talking to,
but we would know that if it was a male
or female, by the way, it would be either like hello, yes,
and that's a dude. And if it's a lady, hello,
oh hi, what can I do for you? Sure, that's exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
What it is. And he does that. Yeah, it does
that the direct pharmacy too. That's why all the pharmacy
ladies love Murphy.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Just like to be nice nice.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Well, it's very natural too, and it's it's a human thing.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
We all do it. It's called code switching.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
New study says that women especially do it in professional settings.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
It's second nature.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
You know how, I've told you this before. Jodie, my
mom when she's herself around the house. It's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
But when we talk.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
To her, do you mean she just talks like yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
I mean it's just you know, yes, I finishing a
sentence or anything.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
But when we talk to her, it's like she's all
buttoned up and professional and she's.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Going to hear this and say no, I don't. Yeah,
she she puts on.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
When people are if you're speaking in front of a
crowd or something. I think everybody, you know, pivots and
teachers probably do the same thing too, So it's.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
A we all do it.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, And I mean I know that. It's just like
when you're hanging out with your friends versus hanging out
with your parents or your grandparents or something, You're probably
gonna speak differently.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
It's called code switching.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
And they say for women in workplaces, it's a professional
voice that we naturally put on. It becomes second nature.
It's a clear choice we make to come across as
confident and competent. I guess it's something that you're thinking
to me, it's self awareness. It's where are you, what
are your goals here? What are you trying to accompany
your crowd?

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Sure, so code switching, Murphy, not just turning it on
for the ladies is what you do.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
They do say.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
It's exhausting, though. If you're changing who you if you're
changing the way that you speak based on your environment,
it's difficult for you.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
It gets tiring for you.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
So to try to find some sort of middle ground
and just being yourself while being a person.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
That's how I know that I'm not faking it, Jody,
I don't ever get tired of talking to the ladies.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
While you were at Mattie's confirmation, Sam, your daughter, Mattie's
confirmation in the Catholic Church over on Saturday night before Easter,
Murphy and I had taken our daughters, Taylor and Phoebe
and their boyfriends to dinner, so table for six. It's
the first time we've ever done that, Murphy. I realized
once we sat down, Well, I thought we did.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Like the graduation party with all of them, that's not
the first time we've been together.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Like that, just the six of us. The graduation party
was my mom and all that too.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Oh that's right.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yeah, So this was sort of a different vibe our
kids and their significant others, and it was really fun.
Murphy you probably didn't realize what happened, but the same
thing that happens when it's just us and our girls
happened with the boyfriends. Murphy became the zinger of.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
The dad jokes.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Oh really, you were entertaining the whole time and it
was fantastic and everything landed, so congratulation good.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
But I don't remember doing that.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
It's just a bunch of stories. I was sipping my margarita, and.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
You're the one who remembers.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You were just being yourself.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
The best part was at the end of the meal,
when the table had been cleared, and Taylor and Phoebe
knew that you were going to do it, and you did.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
You said, does anyone want dessert?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
That is my thing? And you could see both Taylor
and Phoebe just staring waiting because they knew that it
was coming. I love doing dessert like that, and I
always do it excess. I guess you know, because I
got two flawn and I got two Turos.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh wow, and they were stacked up Lincoln Log style.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Yes, it was really cool anyway, So the boyfriends got
to experience that, and I think they really enjoyed it.
My favorite part of The whole weekend though, was when
we came home. They came home with us as well,
and to everyone's surprise, no one knew that the Easter
Bunny had been there.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
And everybody got a basket.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
You hear the dogs getting excited here.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, Taylor, Phoebe got a basket, both boyfriends got a basket.
Even Murphy this year got a basket that looks and
smells like a chocolate bunny. It's so fantastic. So happy
Easter coming up.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Jody has your Hollywood Outsider.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
The latest buzz.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider, brought to you by Private Team Miss.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Don't know if you caught this on Friday, but here's
the update. Sean Diddy Combs lost his bid to delay
his federal trial. He was trying to make that happen
on Friday and the judge said, no, it's gonna still.
Jewelry selection will begin May the fifth. In this trial,
they think it's going to take two months or longer
for the trial. To me, I'm thinking one of the

(09:52):
reasons this trial is so big, it's not just because
of what he's been accused of by multiple victims, but
because of who could be called to the stand. Do
you not think that people like Usher could be questioned?
Do you not think that people like Jennifer Lopez could
be questioned?

Speaker 1 (10:07):
That will show up crazy?

Speaker 2 (10:10):
It is crazy.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
On Friday, the judge also also ruled that three victims,
the ones three, the three who are testifying, will do
it under fake names. They're going to be allowed to
do that. But his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, she said
she will previous. She previously said that she's going to
testify using her real name. So it will begin May
the fifth jury selection at least. Moving on to across

(10:34):
the pond, Prince William and Kate Middleton apparently skipped Royal
Easter celebrations at Windsor Castle for the second year in
a row, not bringing their children. And those things still
go on with King Charles and with other children, just
not you know.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
His grandchildren.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
The reason why it makes it seem like it's a
deliberate snub and rift in the family.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
If it's new and you.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Can eat it, Sam's found it.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Here's the food, dude, brought to you by International Animal Rescue.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Who wants all you can eat wings?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
I do right all the time.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
Well, you're in luck because Buffalo Wild Wings is brought
back there. All you can eat wings.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Here are the rules.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
It starts today every Monday through Thursday. You can enjoy
all you can eat boneless wings for nineteen ninety nine
or traditional for twenty four to ninety nine.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
You have me at all you can eat boneless because
you have deal with bones.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah, chicken nuggets, that's right, with delicious sauce, limited time only.
I don't know how long this is going to last.
Back Monday through Thursday only. Starbucks is there. The Summer
menu is going to be coming out next month, and
they're bringing back a favorite from last year because everybody
wants it, the Summer Berry Refresher. And if you're not
familiar with it, let me refresh you. It's raspberry, blueberry

(11:48):
and BlackBerry flavors over ice with raspberry flavored popping pearls
similar to bobas.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Oh yeah, that's right. Those were good.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yeah, And they're also adding this year a strawberries and
cream cake pop.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
It's very summary.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
You know how we've got all the protein cereals coming
out right now. It seems to be a thing added protein.
The folks that ago said, oh we can do that,
we can make protein pancakes. So they're coming out with
vanilla or blueberry protein pancakes aggos, thirteen grams of protein
in each one.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
My goodness, it should make you feel more full.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
It should.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
And I don't know why they didn't do this sooner.
Ago Mini's in a little pouch. You get little mini
aggo waffles. So taking them with you on the go. Well,
there I frozen. You just keep them in the freezer.
I haven't looked up how yet warm them up. I
guess you throw them in the microwave or maybe they're
like uncrustables, you'll let them. Yeah, And Captain Crunch has
got an orange cream pop flavor he's dropping on us.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Oh taste, creating cuts up the top of your mouth.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
That's right, fantastic.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
You remember we told you that the free Do's they're
bringing back the twists, the caeso flavor, they've got the barbecue,
they're bringing back the qeso flavor. Well they've added another flavor,
cheddar Buffalo. And you can only get them at Dollar General.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Different.

Speaker 5 (13:04):
Yeah, well, I don't know if you ever, if you
ever go to Dollar General, they always seem to these
brands seem to drop special things. That's where I first
found a peanut butter and jelly Eminem's the collab at
Dollar General okay, and also rolled Gold Selects pretzels, flaming
Hot honey mustard. Yeah thanks but sorry.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Hey no, it sounds good
