Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody Daily Show Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
If you think cats are awesome, I just want to
say I'm with you. I think cats are awesome, mysterious,
cool animals to have, cool pets, to have.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
You had cats before we had dogs.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Jody didn't cat before she had you did.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Well, that's true.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
And then Murphy didn't like the cats. That's true too.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
There were small issues because they would, you know, tear
things up, you know, the couches.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Okay, anyway, we don't want to go back to history.
I want to bring this in because Sam, you think
you don't like cats, but it's because you don't have
a normal cat. Yeah, I realized this correct.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I do like cats. I've had other cats and they
were normal cats, and they were great. They take care
of themselves. You just let them in and out and
everything's good, and they love you when they feel like it.
The one I have now a boo, and I've said this,
it's because I think he was taken away from his
mother when he was too small, so mom didn't teach
him anything.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Right, he doesn't know how to be a cat, right.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
He doesn't meow that much. It's it's more of this noise.
I need to record the noise.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, it's so weird. He's never me out no.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Every now and then you'll get up and it's like
I bet that one acts wow. Yeah, because it's like
if I leave him outside too long, you can see
him sitting by the door. I'll let him in and
it's like, I think he thinks he's talking to me
or yelling at me, because because he doesn't come in
and go yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Like, oh, that's cute for him.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
And it's like it continues for about twenty seconds and
stops and it's like, Okay, you're mad. I'm sorry, and
it's like, why am I even talking to you? You're
not a cat, so he doesn't he doesn't behave completely
like a cat because you are trained by mom to
be a cat.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Of course that's that's probably exactly why. But you don't
have a normal cat. It's so funny when we bring
up cats here. You always like it. You always act
like you're so disappointed him when he drives you crazy.
But it's just because he's not normal.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, I am disappointed. It's like it's not a real cat. Well,
and he left and came back home, right, I mean
he was one that.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, he just did he really leave or he chose
your house? Okay, okay, your ex wife.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yes, when she moved out, moved to wherever, she took
the cat.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
With her in the neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
She moved down to yeh, she moved out of the neighborhood. Oh,
and then she moved back in the neighborhood down the
street and brought the cat back. And the cat went, wait,
this looks familiar. There's food down there. And he showed
up at my house and it's like, I thought you
were gone.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
He chose you your house.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, and I made the mistake of feeding him again.
If I wouldn't have fed him, he had gone back
to her house.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
That's not the way to look at it.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
And he knows a little how to be a cat apparently. Yes, mooch.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Murphy, this is a first for us. What's up this weekend?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Mother's two weekend?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
This is a first though for us.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
It's a first because you actually won't be seeing the
girls on Mother's.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Day, well that night, hopefully I'll be seeing them Sunday night. Yeah,
we've never said Murphy's taking me away for the weekend. Wow,
we're going away, hanging out with some friends a couple
of days, and so.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
You're not gonna have your usual Saturday do what you
want day.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
No, I don't need that anymore.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
She'll be doing what she wants though.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Oh yeah, that's right. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I'll have a whole weekend of doing what we right.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, but no, I used to do that, get out
by myself, have a day to myself. I would go
to the spot, go to the movie. I'd go shopping.
That's when the girls were little, we were.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Little, and you know, it was a constant attention thing.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
But now, yeah, yeah for them, that was dad fun Saturday. Yeah,
it was anyway. And then we would spend you know,
Mother's Day together. But anyway, going away is different because
I'm our girls are young adults now, and so they're
at the age where on Mother's Day, I understand, you know,
there's different phases of Mother's Day. And now what I
(03:47):
want is their time. Oh yeah, to be with them
and sit across the table from them and have them
tell up their stories. It's just so lovely to be
and spend time with your children who are growing, and
that time is much more limited because they're so busy
you know, we don't see them as often as you'd think.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, and my grandmother would always say, honey, you know,
just just come visit. And I never, you know, always
wanted to do more than just that. But now I
understand you almost.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Thought that was, you know, her throwaway, But she meant it.
She did mean it. What do I want from Tay
and Phoebe? I would love to hear from them. Hopefully
I'll get a text or a call early that or
whatever that morning. That would be early, and I think
that I will because they're going to be house sitting
for us anyway. Oh well, right, they sleep in our bed,
(04:38):
they do.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
They love that they have their own rooms.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
At the house. But when we're away and there are
dogs sitting house sitting, they totally do tate.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Are they planning on having a party.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I don't know, and if they do, I don't want
to know.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, we've got security cameras everywhere, so yeah, it won't
be that big of a problem. Are we going to
get out of town for Father's Day weekend?
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Town?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I'm just planning ahead here, you know, I got.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I love that idea, all right, coming up next to
your Hollywood Outsider trending now Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Brought to you by a private team.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Mist Denzel Washington is in a new movie coming out
later this year. You know, he has his pick of films.
Everybody wants to work with Denzel Washington and it's a
Spike Lee movie. You like that. It's also got an
incredible soundtrack, and it's also starring Ice Spice and Asap Rocky.
(05:33):
It's called Highest to Lowest. Enjoy this.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
There's more to life than just making money. Is integrating
is what you stand for.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
It's what you actually believe.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Do you believe in yourself? You believe you'll be successful?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
I mean, can he just take us all to church?
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Or what?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
It sounds like a denzil movie.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
It's Highest to Lowest. The number two has got that
cool edge set in modern day New York. All I know,
all we know about is a crime thriller, and I
know that he can do anything. But that's where he
stands out to me. Is he good? Is he bad?
Do you care? Training day Highest to Lois it's Denzel
(06:17):
doing what he does best. You're gonna get it in
theaters in August. So at the end of the summer
and then it streams the well it is streams the
next month on Apple TV Plus.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Coming up next, it's Grateful Friday, Tricia. We're coming to
you at eight seven seven three one zero four MSJ.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Almost Mother's Day and the weekends almost here. It's also
Grateful Friday, so join us eight seven seven three one
zero four MSJ. Hello Tricia, good morning.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I just wanted to tell you guys. First off, I'm
thankful for you guys, because I love listening to you
guys all the time. Thank you, thank you so much
for what you do. I wanted to start, and I
don't have very long so I apologize for rushing through this,
but I am grateful for therapy, yes, yes, and the
fact that mental health has become such a mainstream topic
(07:15):
that you can talk about how you're feeling, you can
talk about the durandom strangers, you can talk about medication,
and in groups of your friends, it's no longer a
taboo thing. You can actually, you know, commiserate over the
whole thing or.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, thank goodness, because we're all you know, mental problems
can and do happen to everyone at.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Times, absolutely, and if you don't think they do, you're
not paying attention.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
You're suppressing everything.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
I am truly, truly grateful for the therapists out there,
and just let them know that they're doing a wonderful job.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah that's not easy to do it every day, I'm sure,
but I love that you're sharing this.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Thank you absolutely. You guys have a wonderful day and
a good weekend.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Too, Patricia. You know, our friend Jay was talking about
that with me the other day, and you know, he's
in his early forties, and he was saying that he
just he is so glad that we are in a
time now. It changed his life going to therapy because
he grew up like a lot of people, it's like,
well that's kind of a bad thing if you have
to go to therapy, and that stigma that doesn't exist anymore.
Oh yeah, And he says it's been life changing for him.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Well, when I was a little girl, there was some
therapy happening in my family, but it was on the
d L. It was on the down load, like she's
going there. He was witnessing that. Yeah, so wrong. And
I'm gonna tell you something else. We always hear about
how being social is so good for you. It's because
it's like therapy. If you're with your with your people,
(08:47):
people that you're comfortable with, you're talking. It's actually kind
of therapeutic, Yeah, to work out things that you just
want to talk about. You go away feeling like, oh okay,
I'm not alone. Yeah, So keep it coming. Grateful Friday.
We love having you a long.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Jody has three things to Know Today coming up next.
Three things to Know Today brought to you by State Farm.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Number one, Teacher Appreciation Week runs through today and then
Nurses Appreciation Week runs through the twelfth. So some freebies
for nurses and teachers to be aware of. Krispy Kreme
handing out free original glazed donuts today. Buffalo Wild Wings
whoa Yeah, offering both a twenty percent discount nurses and teachers.
Okay sorry Sam Yeah in store purchases twenty percent off
(09:35):
for teachers at Staples Chipotle as well, you can sign
up for free food for a year through their website
Celebrate You.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I was going to say, it's been the day. Chasing
freebies sounds fun.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Number two Uber drivers are rating you. Did you know
that if you're a rider a lot, not only do
you rate them and every time you've spilled a snack
or slammed a door or canceled a ride. At the
very last minut You can see your rating by the
way in the app, click on account privacy center and
check where the summary is and it says view my ratings. Yikes.
(10:09):
Have fun with that, Murph. And number three, this is
beautiful popping. The question in private for couples is back,
not all the hype, not all the you know posters,
and making a public spectacle of it, no audience, nothing elaborate,
And couples are together picking out their rings together instead
of you know, someone buying one and hoping it's the
(10:31):
right one. It's a beautiful private thing that's trending.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Now you're up to date.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Three things to know today, guys.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
I want to share a text conversation I had with
my twenty one year old son Jackson.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Okay, okay, Sam.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
It's about one of our after the show podcasts from
last week. I think Laura had written in Oh Yes
about Murphy and I stopping drinking the fact that we share.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Well, she wrote in about her dad. Actually she was
talking about her dad who same thing, and she related
that to the stories that we told and Jackson.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Just so you know, he's living in California and he
is in recovery right now, living in a sober house.
And when it popped up on his Facebook, you know.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
The show podcast.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Yeah, he's like, ooh, I got to listen because that's stuff,
all this stuff about alcoholism and drug addiction and all
that he dives into.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well, that's true that he's living it right now, right right,
and that was a podcast about alcoholism and guilt.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, well, he said he listened, and he said, he said,
Murphy and I should do a whole podcast episode on it.
And that's that was the first time he'd listened to
one of our after the show podcasts. So I told him.
I was like, we've done a few after the show
podcasts about the fact that we no longer drank and
what we did to get through that process and all that.
(11:49):
He says. This is what he texted me in AA.
You share your experience, your strength, and your hope, how
it used to be, what it's like now, and how
you did it. He says, that would be cool and
I would listen to it. Thanks Jackson, Sweet Jackson. He said,
I was listening to this part that's particular podcast and
was waiting for us to talk about what happened. But
(12:10):
you know, like I said, I explained to him we
did that in previous podcasts. That's why you didn't hear
it in that one. Yeah, And this is where he
dropped some wisdom. He said, the purpose of doing that
is not to make you shameful of what you used
to be.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Like.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
It's to show people that they aren't alone if they're
doing anything that's not necessarily right. So they aren't beating
themselves up as much because they aren't in a battle
they have to fight alone. Nice, and then you give
them hope by telling them how you've changed and gotten better,
because it's easy to beat yourself up and feel hopeless
and doomed to a terrible life when the only person
(12:43):
you talk to is yourself.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Oh, Jackson, really good.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
That's a major wisdom right there. That's you need other
people just to get through life, whether it's about addiction
or any problem. Yeah, because, yeah, if you're the only
person you're talking to too often, we're not kind to ourselves.
Listen to that. So what we have to do now
is let him know where to go. Get in the
archive of all these podcasts about Murphy talking about why
(13:09):
he stopped drinking and you sam too because you've gone
there a little bit. Yeah, and have you talked to
him about this or you guys, text is where your most.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Compass is how he likes to communicate, so you.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Have to meet him where he communicates. Yeah, thank you
for listening and sharing that.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Jackson coming up at seven fifty has three things to
note today.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
On the way next though, Mother's Day at any age
and any stage. It's Mother's Day this weekend. So here's
the final little word on it. We've touched on this
a little bit here and there this week. How do
you know what to do for the mom in your life?
It depends on where she is in motherhood. Just use
(13:48):
your common sense. If she's got little babies and she's
not sleeping at night and the house is upside down,
give her a break, you know she needs time away
to just decompress whatever. Or send her on a pedicure,
send her on a whole spa day, get a babysitter,
take her to you know, you know her.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
What if she's eighty five and has everything she needs, We're.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Gonna get to that, okay, because guess well, you want
to just jump straight ahead, we'll get to that. So
it depends on where she is in motherhood. If she's
got teenage kids, you know, there's probably a little both.
She'll want to spend time with the kids a little bit,
but she also could use some pampering.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah, and you know that's where you could do the
mother's day out thing on a Saturday if she really
wants to still be together with the family Jurday, which
she would right, Oh my gosh. Yes, that's a really
cool idea.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Something you need to remember about moms. And yes, the
day is about celebrating motherhood and all that she brings
to the family, which is a lot of ton. But
she's also a wife, or a partner or a best friend.
You know, she's also a colleague. She was a lot
(14:55):
of things before she became a mother, and she is
still those things. The mom. The mom does and have
to be the only thing she is. In fact, it
can't be. Women are always more than one identity. So teenagers,
you can give her a gift. You can give her
the luxury thing, give her the time away. If she's older,
you know what she wants. You know the answer to
(15:15):
this already.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Sam me, it's your time. She wants to.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Spend time with you. It depends on where you are
in motherhood.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Well, she's lucky that she will be able to spend
time with me because tomorrow is my niece's wedding. Remember
oh right, oh god, and my mom is the not
only one of the grandmothers, but she's also the flower girl.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
From Mother's Day weekend. Your mom is going to steal
the show.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
And you know what, it shaves your two trips.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
I came just for you, mom. Are you gonna bring
her a little gift gift basket for her rose petals so.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
She should have that already.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Yeah, I don't know. I'm gonna bring her something.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Okay, very sweet. We need a picture of that. Oh,
we'll get one from Judy. Happy Mother's Day. Wherever you
are in motherhood and you are not just a mother,
your everything.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Trending now Jody's Hollywood.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Outsider, brought to you by Primary Temist.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Next year, if you had to Nashville for a getaway weekend,
you can say at Dolly Parton's hotel. It will be
called the song Teller Hotel, and anybody can you know,
families can say anybody can stay. It's a hotel. But
she also is going to have a special suite for
like bachelorette parties and girls getaways, called the Six Sisters Suite. Okay,
(16:32):
so they're taking this this building, this twelve story building
on Lower Broadway, and turning it into this total lodging experience,
Dolly themed. There's even a big forty six foot mural
to her lodging experiences, entertainment venues, dining areas.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
You named it, well, she does it right. I mean,
if you've ever been to Dolly Wood and she has
the Dolly you know, the dream More what's it called
Dreamwar Resort. I don't.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
It's exactly what it's gotten and it is fantastic.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
It's awesome. Yeah, she doesn't do anything halfway.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
I'm moving on to something. This one opens in twenty
twenty six. Moving on to Angelina, Jolie and Ellie Golding
teaming up for something showing up than seems strange, right, Yeah,
where they're friendly and they've done a documentary together called
b Wild b Ee. It's all about the role of
bees in our ecosystem and how we need them for
(17:25):
our protection. Yeah, it's a documentary. It's going to premiere
at South by Southwest London.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Coming up next, going to hear from you from our
Facebook and Instagram. That's coming up in Part two of
today's Murphy Salmon Jody Podcast
