We're going to get to your emails about honoring your
dad and celebrating your dad for Father's Day. We love
hearing about him, but I wanted to kick it back
to something yesterday's After the Show podcast, Murphy, you were
talking about ways that you are honoring your dad, you know,
with telling stories about him to our kids and compiling pictures.

You Sam talking about, you know, ways to talking about
your dad to your kids, you know, the things that
they don't remember. And you know, at the end of that,
you asked me a question. I got upset, and I
didn't mean to because I wasn't really ready to talk
about my dad and I didn't know that's what we
were doing.

And by said, Jody, doesn't mean mad, by the way,
you just mean emotional.

Emotionally emotional, because you know, my dad died when I
was young, and it's something I carry with me if
I don't talk about it a lot.

But here's the deal.

Here's the thing, and that's a very real thing that
when other people stopped talking about your loved one, you
still grieve them, you still carry it, and it's a
whole level of sadness because you don't hear them. He's
not talked about in the rooms. Our kids never knew him.
But that's another thing to know. If someone has lost someone,
the most beautiful thing you can do is to talk

about them. It's beautiful even if you're nervous, like you
don't want to bring up so and so because they're grieving.
That's not true talk. When when people do talk to
me about my father, I'm sixteen again.

Yeah, you're hearing stories maybe you've never heard before. You're
learning things about your dad.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, and it's so rare that it happens. But so
you need to know that if you're rolling into somebody's
house this Sunday at Father's Day and you don't want
to say anything because that you know, the patriarch of
the family passed on or something like that. Actually, if
you have a story, it is a gift to share it.

Depending on where they are in the timeline I guess
of things, and if they're wanting to talk about.

The gift to share it, yeah, fresh or or not.

I think I bet that there would be the case
also for someone if you actually didn't know that person's
father because they passed on at all to ask.

and me test for Christmas, and so she did it
all and when she got the results back, you know,

it tells you that you could be related to certain people.
It's there was a person named Brandt and it said
his info said New York nineteen eighty five, looking for
my biological dad.

She brings it to dad. He goes, yeah, that was
the Rebel Yell Tour.

Yeah. And so apparently the story goes that this guy
Brent had live completely in the dark, not knowing about
Billy Idol. He thought that this other person his mom
had dated named Mark was his dad. Yeah, So he
brought it to mom. I was like, Mom, is there
there's a chance that Mark might not be my biological father?
And She's like, well, it was pretty crazy back in
the day. I broke up with Mark and I spent

came into a situation where I had five teenage sons
and you know, they kind of needed that dad role model.

And he has done a wonderful job. It has not
been easy. I told him. In fact, when we got married,
I promised him there'd never be at the whole moment
and there.

Hasn't been for that five boys and teenage boy, my goodness.

Five and he had one of his own, right, Yeah. Yeah,
we have six sons altogether, and some of them were
grown and some of them were still teenagers in the house.

I'm very grateful. My boys now that they are older,

and stepped up. It's wonderful showed them, you know what
a good male role model is. And you know, my dad,
my dad's a stepdad, came in the picture when I
was a teenager, and I wasn't.

You know, it's hard on the kids and it's a changing.

Brent had live completely in the dark, not knowing about
Billy Idol. He thought that this other person his mom
had dated named Mark was his dad. Yeah, So he
brought it to mom. I was like, Mom, is there
there's a chance that Mark might not be my biological father?
And She's like, well, it was pretty crazy back in
the day. I broke up with Mark and I spent

a good male role model is. And you know, my dad,
my dad's a stepdad, came in the picture when I
