Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy summer, and thank you for subscribing to the Murphy
Salm and Jody podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Here are some of our favorite.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Moments from the year so far, and we'll be back
with new shows Monday, July fourteenth.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody Daily Show Podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
If you are pregnant and you want a natural, fantastic
way to give some love to your belly, and I
do mean the expanding skin on your belly. Your belly's
going to grow more quickly than you ever thought. And
some women get stretch marks and some do not. But
if you would like to try to prevent that, it's
(00:36):
because your skin is growing that well, your baby's growing
so fast and your skin is having to accommodate it.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I do have stretch marks.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I wish I didn't whatever, and when I was pregnant,
I never lotioned up a greased up.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
My belly, and I regret that I can't go back
and do it now.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
That just improves the odds of it not happening. I
just guarantee you, No.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
It doesn't guarantee it.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Do you remember, though, how dry my skin was on
when I Do you remember something I used to have
to ask you to do for me, Murphy, I don't remember.
So many years ago, my back would get so dry
and I couldn't hardly breath, and you would put the
lotion in. Do you remember how quickly it would absorb
in like it was so strange, and my skin had
never acted that way before pregnancy. So this weekend we
(01:22):
are going to a party to celebrate a new baby
in our family. And remember I'm not bringing a baby
gift yet. I'm bringing a mommy gift first, because the
baby gifts will come later, and so.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
My sister's son and daughter in law.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Right So I've been looking it up and instead of
buying her something that's you know, prepackaged for that which
is nothing wrong with it, you can buy belly rubs
for pregnant bellies. Some of the most natural things that
are very affordable are also very good for pregnant bellies.
Something I put on myself all the time now coconut oil.
(01:57):
It smells so good, it absorbs right into your skin
right away. Now I don't I didn't put it on
last night because I was reading a book, an actual book,
and I didn't want the book to be greasy.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
And you want to keep dropping the book.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah, yeah, because then.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
It would be everywhere, evidence of it everywhere. But a
coconutle is really good on a pregnant belly. It improves
skins elasticity. Rose Hip oil is really good for a
pregnant belly. Olive oil is even good for a pregnant belly. Yeah,
maybe not the scented ones.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Well, I was going to say, this is not the
spray on versions either, Right, If.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
You don't want to go oils, you can go butters.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Cocoa butter is famously supposed to be great for us,
you know, preventing stretch marks if possible.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Shay butter is also really really good too.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Oh and the word is now that I'm reading about this,
and I do plan to bring it this weekend, Murphy
as a gift. When you rub anything on a pregnant belly,
you know, for that reason, rub in beautiful circular motions,
which you're going to do that anyway, naturally, because that
promotes circulation for you and the baby, and it promotes
as Warpson.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Jody, you and I've been married now for twenty five years. Sam,
you and I've known each other for longer, A little
bit longer, you would say, I'm reasonably tech savvy, right,
I mean, tech is my thing. It's a I'm probably
a little overboard with it. I probably I overload my
phone with too much stuff, right exactly, the.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Most tech savvy of the three of us.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
So, oh, yes, he is.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
This is why this is something that completely surprised me,
because I mean.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
I you caught did you I mistake? Did you?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well? It's I certainly didn't know this about Venmo. I
mean I use Venmo all the time, just like anybody else.
Uh uh, you know, not a big deal. And you
know there's a regular payment that I make every month, Jody,
that you don't know about. No, I'm kidding.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Is this the one that I reminded you of?
Speaker 3 (03:44):
This is the one you reminded me about, right exactly.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Now, I have the good memories like did you pay this?
And I'll let me get it.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
We'll just call it support for a family member, gotcha?
And so but I have to every month. I've just
been like okay, I mean I'm like three or four
days late on it because I don't remember to do it.
And so I'm just sitting there talking to our oldest
daughter tailor. She's like, well, you know, Dad, you can
set up a schedule in Venmo. I'm like, no, I
know I can do that in other apps, but Venmo
(04:11):
doesn't offer that. She says, yeah, I think so, and
I look it up. Sure enough, I didn't know that
you can schedule recurring payments in Venmo.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
It actually makes one hundred percent sense that you could,
that you would do that because how many people are
using it for something that's a monthly.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Which is why I mean, because you know, for this
particular family member, I was wanting to use another service
like a zell or something that would be more convenient,
but this one happpy Venmo, right, So I mean I
felt silly. I don't know if that's a new feature
or if I just didn't know, but I'm usually on
top of that. I'm an early adopter type. You know
(04:45):
you are.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
But what happened was Taylor was like, duh.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
See.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
The thing about Murphy is, even if you didn't know
that that was a feature, you usually when you hit
a problem like I wish I could schedule this every month,
you would have hit settings or somewhere else that's to
find it.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
That's how you usually work.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yes, you're right, exactly. Yeah, and I didn't do that,
you know, for this one, but now you know recurring payment.
So tell your mom. I mean, I'm right, I never mind.
I mean, problem solved.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It's not my mom.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
For the record, we had this crazy good conversation with
a dietitian. Her name is Denise, and it was our
after the show podcast on Friday. She is a type
one diabetic and we talked about her diet and the
recommended diet for not just type one and type two diabetics,
but human beings.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
It was such a.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Great conversation, so many good takeaways from that, and I
think you would be actually surprised and delighted to know
what she had to say about diet. And so anyway,
we talked to her because she had reached out to
us because Murphy is our type one diabetic, and you
guys really bonded.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It was really cute.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
So, yeah, thank you. That's a natural thing, by the way,
because you know, as we talked about before, it's like
we're like four to five percent of the diabetic population.
You're born with the gene that you know causes that
causes it. There's nothing that you can do. It's not
your diet, it's not anything. It just is a trigger
that goes off one day, and it's an autoimmune thing.
So running into someone else who's got that in is
insulin dependent. Yes, you automatically bond because you are you
(06:17):
have a similar life experience and you know.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
That most people don't and most people don't understand it.
But it's such a great conversation. Highly recommend you check
out that after the show. Podcast search Murphy, Sam and
Jody anywhere you listen to podcasts and you can dig in.
It was Fridays after the show. But one of the
things she said that I thought was so interesting. I
wouldn't know this and let type one diabetics know this.
She said, Yeah, always say never waste a good low.
(06:42):
And you laugh so funny and you want to explain
what that means.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Well, you know, when you give insulin every now and then,
if you have a low blood sugar episode, you've got
to treat that immediately, and you're gonna have to treat
it with something that is all sugar. All sugar. It
can't have them. You can't treat with a candy bar
because a candy bar is what thirty percent fat slows
everything down. You will not treat it fast enough if
you do that. So it's going to be everything from
jews to a soda to those awful sugar tablets or whatever.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
You know, remember what you've been treating with lately that
I stashed in your office for you here at work.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Oh what those little yogi's things, starburst jelly beans? Yeah,
used toish fish too, Yeah, exactly. And so what she
means by that is if you're going to have to treat,
treat with something that you would enjoy.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
That, you know, you can have candy when you're low
your blood sugar is a lot.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
What's weird about that too, is you know it's just
as a type one, you could eat sweetish fish if
you wanted to on a regular basis, but you would
have to dose to match it, and you can still
maintain your blood sugar. It's just not a great way
to maintain your weight.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
And Denise address all of that in her beautiful dietitian
mind in that after the show.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
There are a lot of myths around that too. So yeah,
so she was awesome.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
There is a new I hope I can talk about this, Murphy.
There's a there's a new baby coming in our family.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Hey, can I talk about that. Congratulations Murphy.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
No, no, not our immediate family.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
But I honestly don't know if it's public knowledge or yet.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
But well, so your side of the family, there's a
baby on the way.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Well it's my nephew.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
So it's we're getting together with them in a couple
of weeks for our little family party, come to celebrate that.
And so my mind went to, oh, I gotta go.
I can't wait to bring a little something. And what
I did the mom and me, I couldn't resist going
to like the baby stores, of the sections, of the
baby sections, and those.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Little lovees that you buy.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
It's not a full blanket, it's just got a little
head on it, like of a of a cute little
lamb or a rabbit, and it's got the little blanket
coming down. And the ones with the bumps. Oh my god,
I love those, the baby blankets with the bumps.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
I remember the ones you're talking.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Oh my gosh. Every baby in the world loves to
feel that. They just don't know it yet. So it's
hard not to grab those, you know. But I stopped myself,
had like two of them.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
In my arms. I wanted to get them, and I
thought I'm not doing that yet.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I'm going to show up that gets together with a
gift for the mother to be. She's gonna get a
hundred million baby gifts between now and her due date,
which is this year. But I'm definitely gonna get So
what to give an expectant mother, Well, if you've been
an expectant mother before, you know these things are you know,
rationing in my brain already. Gonna bring her some snacks
(09:25):
because she's in her first trimester now, so I know
she needs snacks, pickles and ice cream. Okay, maybe not,
but I'm definitely gonna do snacks. And honestly, I'm gonna
bring some themon toast crunch, maybe a little thing of it,
because that was the best one for me. Sweet and
but you know, just it just kept nausea at bay.
But there's other really cool things you can give a
mom to me a mom to be maternity leggings so comfortable,
(09:50):
but if they give room, yeah, and she grows, it'll
give room. It's a good idea. Also, anything for the
belly that she can rub on her belly, like vitamin
eat oil. Well, Bird's Bees also has belly butter. Did
you know that now the belly butter, and it's what
it's for, but on your belly every night, and hopefully
you won't have stretch Mark.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Is that book still out there? What to expect when
you're expecting?
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I mean it is one hundred years old. Yeah, I
won't be getting her a book.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Normally three things to note today would go right here,
but we're on vacation this week. Jody will return with
that when we get back.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
For anyone who eats Uncrustables, there's actually a debate going
on in our home.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Okay, sir, we found. I found.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I bought the Uncrustables Raspberry sam the best flavor, ye
at your recommendation, and I put them in the freezer
and finally everybody realized that they were there.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Murphy, if you had one yet, I have not had
one yet. I'm not either. I don't really eat them
that much.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
But Taylor and Phoebe have both grabbed it and they
had this huge discussion about how they like it to
still be a little frozen when they ease.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Oh I know what they're talking about. Yes, I agree
with that.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
That's the whole point. You're supposed to let it faw
what what is it they like.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
About the frozen what is it?
Speaker 3 (11:06):
They like the sod. They like the outside to become
room temperature, but the inside is still just a little
bit frozen, which is probably left over from when they
would take them to school. You know what I'm saying
before that was the beauty even uncrustable. Is it was
sort of a self cooling get.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
The lunch box.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
But yeah, or maybe the lunchbox was so you know,
good at what it was doing. It would keep it
by the time they ate it at lunch, and they
ate early. The peanut butter was still chilly.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
If you don't let it defrost all the way. You
also realize that the peanut butter is actually square on
the inside.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
It is.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yeah, yeah, I'll see the manufacturing of it when you eat.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
It that way apparently.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, but have you do you eat them at room
tip completely defrosted?
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Sam?
Speaker 5 (11:48):
There are times I catch them when they're still a
little a little frozen in the middle.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
And does that bother you? Or you like it?
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Those are fine?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:54):
I just don't like it when it's still all frozen.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, I mean, who could?
Speaker 1 (11:59):
I just think it's funny because that means Murphy that
there are kids adults everywhere who like them that way.
It's a thing that I didn't even know about, because
to me, there's nothing else that you buy that's supposed
to be frozen that you eat when it's still frozen.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Well, it's also a patient's thing. You let it sit
out and you let it defrost, but you're the more
you look at it, the more you want it, and
so you know you're probably gonna fudge on the amount
of defrost time. And hence the Oh, I like the
cold Center.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
And what's this thing about the air fryer? Have they
tried the air fryer? The Brooks suggests that too it.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Brook suggested that you can do one in the air fry.
You can even brush it with butter and then it's fantastic.
I told them about it. They were their eyes lit
up and got as big as an encrustable. A couple
of them. They haven't done it yet, but I think
they will. Taylor also thinks she would want to do
it from frozen, but Brooke told us you can do
it from thawd in the air fry, So I think
(12:50):
that needs to happen this week.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, Brook, thank you for that Facebook comment. Social media connect.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
You can join us so many ways. You can also
email at Murphy's Samanjody dot com. This came in from Marie.
It's an email.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I'm Marie.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Your show is such a great way to spend the day.
I listen to y'all on my commute to work, but
I recently quit work to give birth and stay home
with my baby girl Congratus, who is now four and
a half months old. Wow, things have been so hectic
and I have struggled to find routine in my day
today life. I have since started listening to your show
(13:28):
again every single evening. That means on the podcast, I
cannot thank you enough for having such a great show
that brings genuine positivity into my life. It's become a
part of my routine again and as a new mom,
that is priceless. Thanks so much, Marie and baby Cecilia,
oh so number one guest, congratulations sweet baby name.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
What a sweet baby name. Four and a half months old.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
That means for four and a half months you have
not felt a routine because that is the so much
I want to say to you right now. Thank you
for sending this in being on maternity leave and the however,
long you're going to be there is one of the
most beautiful but also difficult times for a woman. It's
(14:15):
like you almost struggle with your own identity. You definitely
struggle with sleep, and you definitely struggle with routine because
as soon as you get a routine down, you think
it's a routine with a new baby because for three
nights she'll do one thing and you're like, okay, you
need we need routine to depend on sort of. And
so you get it and you're like, okay, I feel
centered again, and that thing is going to change. That
(14:37):
with a baby at that age, that change is constant
because she's constantly growing. So to me, I've done this
before and I struggled with being home with the babies.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
You know that I loved it, but it.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Was hard for me even in the second time. That's
what was interesting. It was different for you whether that time.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yes, But what I would say is because you're a mom,
you are naturally trying to predict ahead and think ahead.
Just live moment to moment right now, just hour to
hour or even just moment to moment. Don't worry about
what you're going to be doing. You know, at five
o'clock in the evening or even tomorrow at nine. You
(15:18):
want that routine, but moment to moment with that baby,
and I promise you you will feel like yourself again.
Of course you will in time. All right, send us
anything any time. We love having you along.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Thank you, Marie.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Sam you had mentioned recently that apparently if you like
to watch True Crime to unwind, it could mean that
there are somewhatever leftover emotional issues. Yes, I disagreed with that,
Thank goodness, since I don't mind unwinding with True Crime.
I can sleep like a baby, even if it's something disturbing.
(15:54):
I don't know if that if that really is something wrong,
but it's a fact, and so I can't. Jumping in
on social media, Randa says, well, I watch Snapped, and
my husband thinks I'm trying to figure out a way
to get rid of him and not get caught.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Which one is snapped?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
A's like a woman snaps. Oh, yes, I've heard of it. Okay,
I've heard of it. I've never watched snapped, But think
about a person who after years and years of pressure.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I think that's what why it's called snap.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
You say snapped, I think of that delicious snack from
cheese it.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Oh yeah, so you just keep thinking that she's going
to watch the show.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Laurie said, I get to sleep better when True crime
is on TV. Really, I'm gonna admit this too, and
I don't care what it means about me psychologically. When
I don't have one to watch, I crave one. It's
like I've finished the Diddy thing, which is very disturbing
one of them, and I'm thinking, what's next. I need
(16:58):
to fill that psycho gap. I need to fill the crime.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Is it an adrenaline rush or something?
Speaker 5 (17:03):
I mean, because I find myself going to all that
streaming channels I have, just digging deeper and deeper. It's like, look,
gotta be one in here that I don't know about, right.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Nina said, I agree. Love watching this.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
I love seeing the people get caught. It's relaxing. Seeing
people get caught is relaxing.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I get that part. That's the relief at the end.
That's the classic h what is it the way of
scripted I know it's not scripted resolution, right, but it's
the whole TV show concept of you set the scene,
you have the conflict, the conflicts.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Sure, yeah, probably needing closure, Yeah, Dawn says, I fall
asleep watching Castle, Supernatural, et cetera. No, it's fiction, but
seeing bad people get caught is amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yeah, yeah, that makes sense now.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Donna says id TV All Day Investigation.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
Discover is the one where one of the ditties originated
before it went to Max.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Okay, and then Casey said, I love true crime. However
I can't help but think I'm getting entertainment from someone
else's misfortune.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Yeah, there is that too. We feel you. No judgment ever, though,
keep it coming.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
The latest Buzz Jody's Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Outsider, brought to you by Optima Tax Relief.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
In Hollywood, there are some director names that you just know.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
And know this. If you don't know John M.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Chew yet, you will, or you do, you have enjoyed
because he.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Is got a big movie out right now.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Yeah. Wicked is his movie musical.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
He's the director of Wicked, which means he'll be the
director of the second Wicked as far as we understand it.
And he's also apparently going to be directing the Britney
Spears biopit.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Really he's been.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Tight lipped about it. Everybody has except he's saying this.
She is going to be very involved. He knows the
diehard fans fans do not want another somebody else's telling
of Britney's life, So he's going to have her there.
He wants to do it justice, He wants to tell
her story, and he wants her to be highly involved
(19:01):
with telling you.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Well, that's smart also because if it has her endorsement,
that probably gives it bigger chances for success too.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
I mean, everybody's so curious, right, regardless of how you
what you think, if you're a mad fan or you
don't understand, or you're you know, computer at all.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
If they tell the truth, if they don't embellish and
make it Hollywood. You know, why did she do this?
Why did she do that?
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Explain this?
Speaker 1 (19:25):
If it's explained, I need to understand it, though, because
so far some of the explanations have not I've not
understood anyway. John m two will be doing the Britney
Spears biopic development stages, though it's going to be a while.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
That's coming up in part two of today's Murphy Salmon
Jodi Podcast
