Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Murphy, Sam and Jody after the show the
new episode every day of podcast something you get exclusively
for being a podcast subscriber.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I have such a problem with the way Sam reacted
to my gift today idea today. I'm so hurt.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I asking of lemons just doesn't seem like a gift.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
No, you're you're saying that, but that's not what I'm saying.
Our boss brought a bunch of lemons from a tree
in his yard up to this, up to the work here,
to the studios and gave them to everybody. And I
love when he does this. And I asked him, do
you do that at Christmas? Do you go it? You
go and give them to your neighbors. He's like, yes,
I do. And I thought that is lovely. If somebody

(00:37):
in my neighborhood was a neighbor of mine and walked
up to the door and knocked on my door and said,
here's some lemons from our tree or whatever and had
it in a basket or a crate or something nice,
merry Christmas, attached a ribbon to it or something, I
would think that that was so special And the reason
that I did that as a gift today is that
some people that might be all they have to give. Yeah,

(00:58):
it's true. You're always talking about getting off cheap, Sam,
You're only thinking about being the receiver of gifts.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
All right, Well, okay, you don't want a cheap gift,
but you don't I mean, okay as far as something
from the heart and cheap, fine, you got me there.
I don't want to I don't want to be painted
into that corner. But to me, giving somebody a basket
of like apples, different kind of apples, that's a great idea.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Is something like the lemon.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Well, if it was like lemons and there's some grapes
and there's some oranges all in one basket, basket of lemons,
it's like, oh, thanks for the basket of lemons.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Well, I'm okay. Well, however, you can tell he actually
brought like tatsumas or oranges allSome.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Well, maybe get some of those with the lemons and
you'll buy some a couple other little things.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
If it's from the heart. Though, I still think it's
a good gift idea. And you know, my grandmother used
to do uh she had a fig tree in the backyard.
And I was never a big fan of figs, Yes,
but she would sometimes she would either give the figs
or she would make figs.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
The My grandfather still does that. You know, that people
give us figs as long as the day is life.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
And I'm sure that that's still something that's a delicacy.
I'm not gonna put it down, but it's really old school, you.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Know, it's very old school. I just remember, you know,
especially when I was first on my own in college
and I had this sufficiency apartment and I would go
home for Christmas and I would feel inadequate because I
didn't have a lot of money to turn around and
give stuff to everybody. And that's not what it's about,

(02:31):
you know. And it was my in my brain that
it has to be this big thing where you give,
you know. And we've always talked about all these great
gifts gift ideas, and none of them are cheap. But
that's not the point. The point is if you really
want to give something, give what you can give, and
a lot of times that's a lot of times that's
something from your own kitchen or something. I think it's
very sweet and old school, and what's wrong with that?

(02:53):
When somebody may own something and gives it to you
and there's nothing else expected. And I think I'm going
to be doing some of that this year too, like
baking and giving, and I don't think it's going to
be enough to be fine making a great idea.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I don't think that making anything ever goes out of
style though. I don't think there's any old school about that. Yeah,
it was the kinds of things that you know, but
I love that. To me, those are still really the
best gifts. I'm not going to turn down anything like
that that comes to me.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Our neighbor next door make used to make. We don't
live next door to them anymore. They used to make
pepper jelly. I love that stuff because it's spicy and delicious.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Look forward to it every year.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, I love that. We don't live with them anymore anymore.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I'm just saying, And maybe it's specifically lemons. It just
seems like lemons are you know, And.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I think you're hung up on the lemons you are
because I thanked him for those. It's in my water
right now. I have him in the kitchen now at
home because I love him in there.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
You know, my grandfather on my mother's side, my mother's father,
was that he was a hard worker all of his life.
He did not make a lot of money at all.
And when my grandmother passed away, he actually started making gifts,
which is really you don't hear about dudes doing that
very often, you know what I mean. But you know
he was he was a paratrooper during World War Two.

(04:10):
I mean he was. When I say a hard worker,
he was a hard worker. It was all physical work, right.
But in his later life he decided that he would
start making Rice Krispy treats. He would make them and
make them because rice krispies were reasonably inexpensive compared to
other things.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Smart he could do and everybody loves them.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
And those were his Christmas gifts.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I love.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
I thought that was sweet.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
If you want to feel more simple and less stressed,
think about what your family can do. Do it all together.
Make it a family tradition that you're making stuff together,
and gift that. You know. So, I'm glad we understand
each other now.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Sam, Hey, who was that the neighbor? Yeah, he brought
us a basket of lemons.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Don't make some lemonade or lemon pie?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Oh lemon pie. Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Seriously. My final message with that is the reason I
brought it up in the first place is that is enough.
If you can give something like that, it's enough.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Absolutely missed any part of the show. It All at
