Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you for hanging out with us after the show.
This is another episode of Murphy Salmon Jody after the show.
For being a podcast subscriber. And you know, it's really
cool how much dating support Sam's been getting from our
Facebook page and Instagram, you know, just dating websites, the
whole online dating thing, which you've taken a break from
that briefly, right.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
The online stuff. Yeah, I'm just waiting for something to
fall in my lap.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
But you are taking the advice from the Amazon Echo
about you know, go hang out and have dinner by
yourself and strike up a conversation.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah, I have a question. This is really really weird,
not of left field. Is there nobody in your family
that's the matchmaker type? The reason I ask is when
I think about online dating, and that was my grandmother whenever,
anytime when I was young, when I was a teenager
or early twenties or whatever, before I met you, Murphy.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
She wasn't trying to match make you after WEMA good.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Like that, Murphy.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Guys. Anytime I was single, you know, i'd break up
with somebody or whatever. I would come over to her
and we were eating and visiting or whatever, and she
would immediately go to I know this, I know this
young man that i'd like you to meet. Every time
she was about doing that.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
You had that many connections.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
They were church boys, always church boys, and I remember
one of my great regrets in life, and I was
just in a bad place. I hope she knows that
it's a regret. Mama date no church boys. I just said, no,
I'm really not. I really don't want to meet anybody
right now, because I really didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
You shouldn't apologize for that. That's actually a very smart,
solid thing to tell her.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
It was the way I said it to her that
I regret. She was my grandma. She deserved my utmost respect.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
And you were probably just being a teenager that was
twenty one, oh so hot? Did you tell it to her?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
I was just I kind of didn't even let her
finish for I was like, yeah, and I just think
back on those things and I didn't want to hurt
her feelings. My point for bringing it up. She was
that person. So if somebody like that in your life,
she'd be all over you.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
I don't have any of those people. I mean, I
have a small family.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Mom, brother, my kids, and then your family, your mom
actually doesn't seem to me to be the kind of
person who would be prone to recommending. She would be
the opposite your mom would be that you don't want
to date her.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
She's all you know what I meant, Yes, yeah, you're right.
My mom wouldn't force anybody on me. But yeah, she's
also she would be the filter that would find something
wrong with everybody, right, okay, protective mama. One of the
things that Doreen had recommended from our mail bag, yeah,
was that I go to the dog park, you know,
and I'm thinking about it because it's like, I've been

(02:37):
with Gus, my dog, to the dog park, and I've
seen other people there, but it's never to me. That's
one of those cliche things that you see in the
movies or TV shows where you're playing with your dog,
or you're throwing the you throw the frisbee a little
too far and over by the cute girl.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Okay, well that is cliche.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
That actually scene.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
I mean, I've been to the dog park a few
times with Gus, like I said, and I've never seen
her the damsel and distress with her little puppy dog.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
You don't know that, you know.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I think the reason it's cliches because it actually is true.
It's a conversation starter. You're there for a common reason.
It's so much easier to get into a conversation. It's
not you know that it turns into love in the
first thirty seconds.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
It's got that scene with the music playing and Tom
Hanks and Megryan. Yeah you're thinking of that. No, it's
about being out socially, something that you love to do.
You would obviously have dogs in common, you know. And
I'm going to tell you this if I were single, Murphy,
you know this, If I were single, I would never
be able to be with somebody who didn't love dogs.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
They would never be able.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
To be with me because I've got a hot mess
of dogs.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah. I just picture of the dog park. You know,
you're out there with that bag around your hand taking
up man. She is hot, you know. But hey, you
know it's a cliche. Speaking of cliches. My last wife
church matter at church.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah, I don't know that that's a cliche.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
It's just where people go, right right.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
I mean, if you want there by cliches, meeting in bars,
I mean anything could be a cliche, but me that's true.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
We met at work and he still can't.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
You know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
It was my second one.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
We're working together. You did meet yourself at work?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
All the cliches.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
First wife was where school, university, okay, second wife was
at work, and then third wife was at church.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I'm hitting all the cliches, aren't.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
You just got to go to a dog park.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
I think what Dereena's saying there is that at least
it's a it's another avenue to strike up a conversation.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
And if you don't go out to the dog park
looking for the relationship, maybe if you don't, but you know,
I mean, you never know what conversation made strike up.
And you know, I think what Jodie's saying probably when
she says that, you know, you don't have to understand
that I love dogs what she's meaning. And if you
show compassion to an animal, then you're probably a compassionate

(04:58):
person to a cert right, right.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
It's just go out in public doing things that you like,
and you are likely to meet someone who also likes
the same thing. It's that simple.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Is that a labordoodle?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Oh Gus here? Now, Gus is just a mutt?

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Missed any part of the show.
