after the show podcast. It's just something special. We get
to hang out little bit longer throughout the day, something
that's not part of the regular show.

Sam. I got to see my grandfather for a little
bit the other night, my papa. And you know he's
the retired pastor minister.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
He's going to be eighty nine years old this September.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Eighty nine, in twenty nine, nineteen twenty nine. Yeah, okay, so,
and I have such a dilemma with him. Now, such
a dilemma. Well, first of all, I want to tell
you a couple of cute little things. He was telling
Phoebe that he has a swisher and that he likes
to use it to keep the house clean.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Oh, a swiffer.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
And it's a swiffer, but you don't have the heart
to correct his mind.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Is the swisher? Yeah, Now, Phoebe is our youngest daughter,
understands what a swiffer is. To interpret that as swiffer.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
She did, because once he started explaining what it is,
he says, it gets up every little thing. And he says,
and if it doesn't get up everything, it must push
it in the corner because I can't find it.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, so really funny.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
So he's been using his swishers to keep his house,
you know, as clean as possible.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
See, I'm going to start calling it a swisher.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
The other thing that he told me that made me
a little glad and sad at the same time. At
this time of the year, he always has a garden,
and he has a circular garden in his backyard because
it's an old trampoline. What do you call that?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
The frame?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
It's just a frame, thank you. It's not the jumping
up and down thing is not there the actual trampoline part,
just the frame.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
And that's a thing. Apparently there are people that do that. Yeah,
that's a way to resell.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Well he didn't learn that on Pinterest. I can tell
you you just did it.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
It might have been his, but I've actually seen people
do that for green beans or vine type plants.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
And around always did like butter beans, and he always
used to do peppers every year, and he's always done
tomatoes as long as I can remember. He started telling
me about his tomato plants, and I started asking him
what else you know he had this year? Because I
grew up around this man I know that he likes
to plant a lot of things. It did not dawn
on me that it's just him now and that he

might slowly but surely start planting less and less. This
is the first year, probably since he was a kid,
because he had to quit school early in life to
help on the farm and plant and and and you know,
pick things and take care of colts.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
He was born in the depression.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, it's probably the first year summer in his life
that he had only planted tomatoes. He said, it's just
me and I don't I can't be out in that heat.
I can't be out, and I can't do as much
as I used to do it. He's has problems with
his eyesight, so he only has a few tomato plants
this summer. He does not have butter beans and peppers
and all that around the frame this year.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Even though I missed those other things. If he's going
to pick one thing to keep, I'm all about that tomato.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
And he will as soon as I see him. He
will be giving us tomatoes. And they're something about him.
I know there. They just taste better.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, well me, and they grow like twice as big.
I'm not sure how he does anything special fertilizer. I
don't know God's love. Okay, he didn't ask you to
help him in like figure no the rest of the garden.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
But I would have no my dilemma with him. And
I'm gonna have to check with family members for sure,
just to see what they think. And I mean my
uncle and them who my uncles who live very near.
I want to get their opinion on this, because you know,
he solidly flat out asked me if I would help
him get a new dog.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
You know, he oh did he? I heard him talking
about dogs, but I didn't realize.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
We were talking to Uncle Tory while I was visiting
with Papaul.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
And the reason just so that you know, you know,
as you know Sam, Jody does rescue and has relationships
with the rescue organization. So the family tends to go
to Jody and say, hey, I want a dog, what
can you help me with? But I didn't know he
was asking for one. Well, he said he was missing nice. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
He started about to ask me how many I've got
right now, and we said just five, the usual number
of five. And then Phoebe showed him a picture of
Papa the bulldog. You know, what he said. He says,
you wouldn't want to part with him, and I'm like, yeah,
not really, not really. I love Papa now he'd have
a tough time with Yes. The thing is, your grandfather
doesn't need to have a bulldog. That would be a

test of wills. And a bulldog is not for somebody
that wants to test the will, you know, and you
don't want to test the will of my my papa,
I don't think. But he was he really knows what
he wants, because he said, Jody, I don't want one
that's too big, and I certainly don't want one that's
too little that I could step on, and I don't
want one that sheds too much. But I do want
one that's going to be inside with me except to

walk and go to the bathroom. He wants a companion dog. Again,
he doesn't. He was very specific. He doesn't want one
too old, and he doesn't want a puppy. And I'm
likes dogh that's one that's just right. But guess right,
guess what there are I could go to any shelter,
any organization that I'm working with and find a good
in for him, but that and that's his wish and

that's his right to want that, and I would love
to help him with that, but I just feel like
my family members that see him more often than I do,
would say, you might give me a better idea of
whether it's a good idea or not. And it kills
me because he is in his right mind, and if
that's what he wants, I would love to be the
one to help him with that, but I want you

to know, Murphy, then if I do it, I'm going
to have to do it with the.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
What do you call it?
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Disclaimer that I would take it back if it doesn't
work out, because if something.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Happens and sign a contract, are you well no, I
just know that I would.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
You know. You know what I'm saying. It's a special
case where if it doesn't work out and he gives
it back, I'm not going to bring it back to
the shelter.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Oh that's going back. It's going to go to your house.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
It would have to until I can for Dog number six.
Just Foster Wilster only does he asking this because he
just lost his dog or he's missing having a dog.
And I always had dogs as long as he's had dogs,
and lately in the last couple of years, when he
would mention it to me, he would he would say,
I don't want another dog right now because I want

to be able to go when I want to go
see my sister and go for the night and go
for the day. And he's done some of that. Well,
now he's going less. He's home almost all he's got.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
He also has challenges with his eyesight, which is common
at that age, and so I think that kind of
gets in his way and will ultimately with a dog too. Yeah,
it's tough to have that conversation because you're right jointing
him to have that. He absolutely is certainly capable of
caring for and spending time, but it would feed his soul. Right.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
But if I was in his position, I would have
one already. I would probably have five already, you know me.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
But what about a cat.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
He's not a cat person, new, I mean, he doesn't.
He doesn't have a problem with cats, and he loves
all God's creatures, but he wants it all.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
They can take care of themselves and as far as
he's concerned, that's outside business.

And I don't want a cat scratching him. You know,
cats can be crazy, and yeah, yeah, anyone.

Not that I'm trying to get rid of a cat. Okay, Sam,
We've got the perfect pet. Yeah. His name's a Boo.
