You know, the other night, Murphy, right before your surprise
party was about to happen, I was in the bathroom
at Randy and Carroll's house that your friends, who hosted
the party. I was getting ready, doing my hair, I
had my makeup done, and my phone started. I started
getting instant whatever you call the direct messages for my
cousin canvas and Sam was included. And she happened to

be traveling through New Orleans at the time that night,
and she was like, Okay, I'm in New Orleans for
one night.

Where do I eat?

And I thought you were going to say that she
was trying to get to the party.

I know, I wish, And in fact, when I saw
that she was that close, I almost said, oh my gosh,
come here. But you know, she was with a huge
group of boy scouts, you know, parents and boy scouts,
and so I don't think we could have fed all
those anyway. So I was so busy and everybody was
calling my name and it was just busy. So I
was just I sent back, Sam, you take this, yeah,

because you're born and Ray New Orleans, and so you're
you're the person to ask more than for sure out.

Because I didn't see it till monday.

What's wrong with you?

I don't see Facebook messages unless I'm on Facebook and
on a laptop.

I do, but I don't ever check the messenger app. Yeah,
oh it doesn't alert you. Okay, I have most of
those notifications turned off.

A place where she said she was staying. I know
of a good hole in the wall rocking Carlos, and
I told her to go eat out, but.

Yeah, I was like, here, here's where you should have gone.

Italian food, seafood po boys, that kind of thing.

Did we eat there with you a long time ago

And the thing is it with your second wife. I
thought for some reason we ate a camellia grill, but
that would be weird because that's more breakfast.

It was a night place.

You can do burgers and stuff there too. We've eaten
at Mandina's down there.

That was it. That's where we ate. Yeah, I remember

But whenever anybody asked me for food recommendations, it's funny
because I always give hole in the walls.

I don't that's what people want that.

I never do give the fancy you know, linen, tablecloth, napkin, you.

Know, do Antwan's, you know, Commander's Palace.

That's the great thing about when you're from a city
like that and you can, you know, give everybody the
true mom and pop been there kind of restaurants. And
I guess it's easier to find those now than it
used to be, thanks to trip Advisor and so forth.
But really, there's no substitute for somebody who grew up
in the city that you can ask immediately. I mean,
Sam is my go to for anything New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, and that's what you get. Hole in the wall.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Whenever I am down there and I have time to
go grab a bite. Yeah. I hit In fact, when
I took everybody for the staycation and we spent a
day down there, we went to Camellia Grell Speak of
the Dell.

Yeah, very cool. You got any recommendations, Bailey for New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
I actually haven't spent too much time in New Orleans,
so I wouldn't really know what it is.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
I'd be the one asking for that.

Funny you've got You say that, Sam, because I have
a friend. Her name is Dana, and she loves New
Orleans and when she goes she if you asked her,
the recommendations would be completely different because she is more
of an upscale foodie, okay, And I went with her
once and I ended up eating a fish whose eyeball
was staring back at me. And she likes the upper scale,
(03:30):
you know, sort of. And there's a lot to choose from.
It's one of the best cities to eat in the country.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
The thing about those places, though, is they are award winning, right, No,
they always win Beard Awards, and they they're in all
everybody's top list. I mean, Commanders has been on the
top list forever. Yeah, Commander's Palace. But yeah, I tend
to prefer the flip flop and shorts kind of place.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, there was a place we stopped at on vacation
a few weeks back. That is a hole in the
wall outdoor place that is everybody loves. There's always a
line waiting in line, and the food was great. But
what happened to me when I was there, it was
dirty for me. I didn't enjoy the experience because it
was hot. We were eating outside, covered but outside, and

I just to me, I can't eat somewhere that feels
dirty to me, even.

And there was nothing dirty about the place. It was clean.
I mean it wasn't. And you know me, I am
like the total germophobe freak. You know, I always got
I got hand sanitizer in my pocket right now, But
I'm not. I had I had no issue at all
with that, but it was it's meant to be an
outdoorsy barbecue kind of place.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
That's the way that dirtied me that day. So that
interfered with my enjoyment.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
And also too, whenever we do travel anywhere, I always
like to look see when we just went on on
that radio trip, the one with the era the flights
from you know.

Where to Minneapolis.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yeah, I had a place picked out that I wanted
to go to. We didn't have time to get there,
but it was the place the originator of the juicy
loose you know, the hamburger with the malten cheese inside.

That started in Minneapolis.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah, I wanted to go to Prince's house.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Yeah. So it's like and we didn't have time because
we were doing you know, conferences and stuff.

Well, I mean, it's just like when we went to
New York. The one place that I really wanted to try,
and it was our friend Brad that recommended it to us.
It's a really old school Italian restaurant in Manhattan called Patsy's,
which is where Frank you know, you don't need to
say Sinatra, you just say Frank, you know, and that
gang used to hang out and seek to me. Those
kinds of places that just they've got that history. And

even if that place has a little grease on the wall, Jody,
I don't care, you know what I mean. It's but
those I mean, those kinds of places, well, they were
always going to be my favorite places to go eat
when we go to a city.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I don't know if you remember, Jody, but one time
when we went to uh Amarillo, the place I found
and I was like, we got to go eat here.
It was at the stockyard. It's called Amarillo Stockyard.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yes, that was an incredible I think I had a
burger he did. Yeah, but is that.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
The one on Route sixty root sixty six? No? No, no, oh,
Golden Light on route that's right, Golden Light. Those are
good burgers. Yeah.

Yeah, you gotta fight. I mean, look at like you
said Murphy trip Advisor. Yelp, any of those places. Find
the hole in the walls. Yeah, that's where you're gonna
get the best deals and the best food.

Okay, so one more time. One recommendation for Canus would.

Have been Rocky and Carlos and shall Mett.

And shall Matt. It's just not even in New Orleans.

No, you know, I mean we should add Memphis stuff
to the list too. You could go on and on.
You can name every city in this country. Hughey's in
Memphis is really good.

Just a mix of everything. It's you know, it's Burger's
primarily is what they're known for. That. We've got three
or four locations and you know, seafood and stuff like that.

Funny was that when my son Jack went to Memphis
with his church group, he came back with a Huey's
T shirt. He said they ate there and it was delicious.
