Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Chodi after the show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Here's something I never thought to thrift or consign if
you will buy on consignment or even look for it
in the state sale. But boy, has my life been
changed now, Murphy. I think you know where I'm about
to go here.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Well, I mean you did a lot of thrifting over Thanksgiving.
Well you're probably talking about I mean like jackets and stuff, right.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yeah, okay, So here's what's shoes? And I always do that.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Okay, So my cousin Crystal and I went on the
day after Thanksgiving on Black Friday. We always stopped small
on that day and we decided to do some consignment
shopping and she took me to this really cool vintage store,
you know, two miles from where she lives, and we'd
like to go in there. You never know what you're
going to see in there. Murphy came along this time.

(00:47):
We've been there before. We go every year to that
consignment store.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah, it kind of surprised me what you wind up buying, honestly.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Right, So, I never I think I've ever bought anything here.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
But it's a typical vintage store, different vendor, and there
there's there's Vinyl, and there's Crystal, and there's Christmas stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
There's baseball cards, there's old video games, there's.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
They got rest Western wear in there and boots and
just you never know what you're going to see in there.
So we're walking back to one of our favorite areas,
Crystal and I, and we see on these on this
rack a bunch of jackets and coats and leather coats.
And the leather jackets and the ones that caught our

(01:31):
attention were meant to. They're right up front and they
were like Santa coats, like leather with the puffy you know,
first leaves and trim so heavy I put it on,
it almost fell over. We were I wasn't going to
buy that, but it was just fun to see.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Man. I was bummed that none of them fit me.
I tried them all on, and like, man, I mean,
it's interesting. You know, by definition, the Santa jacket should
fit anybody by definition.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Long tails and just a legit, you know, I think Sama,
we mean to ask him when we see him.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
This year with those were all coats for women.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
No, I think that big one that almost made me
fall over was could be either you.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Know it was too tight around the arms when I
put it on.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
So the rest of the jacket guns are too big.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, lot of working out.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
The rest of it.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Were all these crazy cool, real leather jackets, and realize
you're in a vintage store, so every single jacket is different.
There are motorcycle.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Jackets here, cool.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
There are Nascar jackets here, movie jackets. There was an
X Men heavy leather jacket that was so cool. It
was just way too big for me. I wanted to
wear something like that.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
It was half and half for me. Some of them
were cool, some of them were like now, the funny one.
They had a wonderbread one that was Ricky Bobby.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh yeah, I'm all ish, or I would have totally
got Halloween costume rita exactly. That's funny, I guess, because
guess what else? Everything on that rack was twenty five
percent off.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
They were already priced really really well. I mean, how
much do you expect to pay for a vintage, cool,
in great condition leather jacket.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
I don't know, that's not my market.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Fifty bucks less than that they were.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Some of them were thirty and forty and then twenty
five percent off that So we're minding her on our business.
And one of them I picked up for Crystal. I
have pictures when I picked up for Crystal, and I
will share. It was black leather with like hot pink
stripes around the arms and stars, and we were like,
she was like, oh my god, I love that. And
she said Addie would love that. Addie is her daughter,

(03:46):
and rightly so. And this jacket is like forty dollars
and twenty five percent off. She puts it on. It
looks insanely good on her. She's like, I'm buying this.
I'm like, yes, you are.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
But I had to look at the story on that jacket.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, it says on the back it says hit man
Brett Hart.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
And Brett Hart wrestler, Yes exactly. I didn't realize he
was a Canadian wrestler, but yeah, it's the so and
I guess that's like eighties, yeah, because he was. He's
like sixty eight years old now. I don't think he's
wrestling now, and the pictures of him kind of had
that eighties look to him. I'd never heard of him.
I guess you have, Sam.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, I mean I'm not a wrestling person, right, Yeah,
I heard that.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
The jacket is so bad. It is awesome and it's
in great condition.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
I mean bad in a good way.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I'm in bad, you know what I really actually mean.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
But great condition looks great on Crystal and will look
great on her daughter. They're going to share it. It
was a little too big for me, even especially long.
The leather jackets cover my hands. If they're one size
too big, I guess my arms are short anyway.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
See here's my question to you. Does it matter you
know that the design is Brett Hart?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Is it just the way is it art at this point?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Or if somebody looks at the back and they go
Brett Hart, who's that? And they google and you realize, oh,
you're a fan of the wrestler.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
If you want to wear it and you like it,
you don't even have to know what it is. We'll
get to what I bought, so you know what I'm
talking about.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I mean, that's what That's what surprised me a little
bit about that, because Jody was you're very much a
you're not a name brand person, but like, I don't
know what you even call that? What do you call
product jackets or things that are branded? This branded is
merch yes, that's what it is. It looks like merch
and and it's look, it's a nice jacket.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
I think it looks like fashion. Actually, I don't think
it looks like merch.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
It's leather. It is. It's cool to look at. And
that's why I'm saying, at what point does it become art?
And not just the person you're tied to.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
You that's going to wear it when she's cold, Because if.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
You put on that wonder bread Ricky Bobby, well that's different.
Everybody's gonna know who you are.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
You know what we want to get to what I want,
and everyone will envy you as well.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
What else is to Brett Hart?

Speaker 2 (05:50):
One that I liked even better than the Bret Heart jacket,
and she tried it. Christ Will try to convince me
to buy it because I think it looked I thought
it looked too big on me.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
She's like, you look your wearing your boyfriend's jacket. It's okay.
I'm like, it's just way too big.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
It was black, the leather was soft, and I loved
the detailing, but it said five Finger Death Punch. It's
a metal band, a death metal band, and I'm like,
I love.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
This jacket but it is way too If it fit me,
I would have been wearing it right now. I would
have bought it.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
And to me, again, it's a case in point right
to you, Murphy, it is.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
It's a great looking jacket. But again, if somebody knows
the band they look, they're gonna think, oh, you're a
fan of SO, and there's not I know, there's nothing wrong.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
With I know.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I just like the jacket.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I mean, look, there are people that wear you know.
I mean your mom had a Stranger Thing shirt and
she didn't know, really, she'd never seen the show.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Taylor and Phoebe gave it to her and she loves it.
So if you love it, rockets right, And I agree.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
But that's what really surprised me because you're that's not
the fashion area you usually go.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
That's why I'm doing this podcast to say I never
would have thought to look for leather jackets in a
vintage place.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
And oh my gosh, I was one.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
There was a Harley jacket that was really cool. Yes,
and you could have rocked that one. Did it not
fit you?

Speaker 2 (07:05):
I didn't put that one on because it's a sleeve.
It was a leather like vest. I'm not going to
try to be that.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
That's my dad's Harley.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
We could have you just wear the jacket around and
people think you got a bike.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I hung up the five finger death Punch one and
I said, I can't.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I won't wear this. It's wasted money. And she goes, well,
I'm not leaving this here. So she bought two leather jackets. Yeah,
she bought two of them, and I'm so glad she
has them.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
It's just so cool.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
And I fell in love with one that did fit
me perfectly, but it was to me again, thinking of fashion,
I don't want to buy it and just hang in
my closet. You remember, it was the Joker when it
was a Harley Quinn one, and it was so comfortable
and warm and it fit me. On the back it
said property of Joker and on the front pocket Daddy's

(07:54):
Little Monster. But it was very busy, you know, it
had words all over it. It was part of it
was bluish. It was busy.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It might have been the most gaudy out of all.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Of them, honestly busy. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
But see even that, like glitterate writing on the back
of a jacket that this does not seem like you.
To me, it really does. And I'm not judging you.
I'm just saying that it's you and I've been married.
I got it for what twenty some odd years now,
and that actually, you know, well.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Your pinky ring didn't seem like you either. When the rocket.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Pinky ring doesn't. It is not that you know, named
after a death Metal but or a former Canadian wrestler.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You love it, you should be able to rocket.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Yeah. No, And I agree with that, I really do.
I agree with that. What I'm saying is just is
That's why I'm really asking the question, at what point
does it turn into art? All right? Sam? Here's another example.
There were a couple of jackets there that kind of
cool looking leather jackets, and then I got and looked
at the insignia on it and wondered what these were.
They were Paul mal jackets, so like somebody got them

(08:55):
with their points, their cigarette points brown. There was a
Marlborough shirt too, but it was like a dress shirt
with the.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
We had so much fun.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
One leather jacket I almost bought, but I didn't think
I would wear it, and it was brownish. It was
crystal said, very top gun and the back of it
had this good, gorgeous lady with blonde hair, and it
says made in Heaven. And it was so cool and
it was brown leather and it was warm and the
leather was soft, and it was really well cared for

(09:28):
and it fit me really great.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
But I just knew that I wouldn't wear it.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
And the next day we went back with Phoebe and
her boyfriend because they love to hit vintage and he
loves leather jackets.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
He almost bought that one. It looked good on him.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
See that one sounds like something I might be interested in.
Correct if it was that vintage woman on a bomber.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
It was, That's exactly what it was.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Crystal tried to convince me about that one too, but
I loved it. Hey, it's it's so cool looking. If
you saw it, though, it is the coolest, I would
rock that well. Anyway, it just didn't fit me. We're
about to leave and I saw this. I did buy one.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
That's what's funny. It's not a leather though. I didn't
buy a leather. I went.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
There's a section of it that was also twenty five
percent off. It just wasn't as expensive. I'm gonna take
it out.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Rph, Oh this one.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, you forgot about what I bought.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
No, I'm surprised you bought this.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
I know.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
It's just so comfortable and cute.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
And what's so funny about this? This is the funniest story.
Crystal and I both loved it. She was like, this
looks good on you and it is fun, and I'm like,
I like it.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
It is fun.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
You're right, and I'm like, certainly this is something that
I should know because there is something on the back
of it.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
A satin jack.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
This is eight I know that what really blows me
away from under the seventies.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
It's so fun.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
It's satin, it's white and like the quilted sort of
and it's just really fun and warm. I'll totally take
this on a walk or wear it when I run
to the store or whatever. And anyway, there's a there's
a scorpion on the back of it.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Let me show you. Say, look, there's.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
A yellow scorpion on the back. And I'm like, oh
my god, that's got to be something, right. I buy
it and we get in the car to leave, and
Crystal's like, let's google what this might be.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Oh, I had to google image it to know you
know who it is, you know who actually wore that
jack well, not the one you were. It might be
worth more money. It's a right. Ryan Gosling wore it
in Drive.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Is Driver or it's a movie from the early two thousands,
not Baby Driver, but the first one before that.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
And Christina Hendrix is in that.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
Movie Is She Believe?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
So what's so funny is I vaguely remember hearing about
that movie.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I've never seen it. But this jacket, people, I'm curious.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
I haven't really worn it much yet. I wore it
that afternoon and I just like it. It's really cozy,
and I wonder whenever I wear it or people can
be like, oh, they're gonna say something to me that's
movie ish, and I won't know, and I'll be happy.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
I could take a couple of guests. So what they
might say, Dude, you must be a dry fan. I
love that movie.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Yeah, I'll be like, no, I just like the jacket.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
You can be like your mom with I know, I've
never watched Stranger Things. I don't really know.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
You need to play it up and so, yeah, this
is actually one of the jackets they use on this on.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
The movie Okay, that's not me.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
You know, but I will say I know I'm teasing you,
but that it does look good on you. Satin is
something you've always kind of poked fun at, you know,
because cheesy guys.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Jackey satin jacket, radio jackets. Yes, but there are certain sides.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Scorpions, right exactly. I have a jackets.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
I'm another jacket that's this very same. It's greenish, and
you're always like, oh, that looks pretty on you. Yeah,
so I do have some shiny soft things. Yeah, I
know it's it's in a strange little vine, but I
just had fun doing it.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Well, I caught your eye. I get the art, the
art part of it. I really do understand.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
I'm not trying to be art. You keep saying that because.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
It's because it's logoed basically, Oh yeah, you know what
I'm saying. It Really it's merched, like you said, so,
it represents something that represents a movie. It represents Bret Hart.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
I'm not wearing before that. I'm wearing it because I
think it's fun.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Well I keep it, I don't know, maybe not, Maybe
I'll sell it At Halloween.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
There's nobody who wants to go as driver.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Maybe you could be Ryan Gosling and Halloween.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
I will say though I was sad that I didn't
leave with a leather jacket, but I just didn't see
one that really that I really want to.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Yeah, and I'm glad you you don't want to force
the issue. Now bring something home that you're not going to.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Wear, or a white satin scorpion jacket well.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Or anything that says Ricky Bobby.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Although you were sad about not being to get a
Ricky Bobby, I just never thought to look.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
And now I'll always be on the lookout for leather.
Missed any part of the show.
