Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Murphy, Sam and Jody After the Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
And Murphy can't be with us for this one because
he's traveling today. So just me and you, Sam, you
can say what we want. Well, I do have a
little something to say about Murphy because you know we
mentioned in the show today today is our youngest daughter,
Phoebe's birthday, big and a big one, twenty one today,
which is hard to believe. Like, I know that's a

(00:24):
cliche thing to say, but you really feel it. It's like,
how I feel that in my bones today? How is
my baby the age of twenty one? Anyway, it was
hard for Murphy to have to know that he was
going to be out of town on this date, so
you know, whether he shoots little videos for her or
not if he has time, I know he will and

(00:46):
send them and all that, all the little dad jokes. Yeah,
but he did leave a card, He wrote her a note,
and I am to deliver it and so I'm going
to do this.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Is there a gift too? Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Okay, well I'm bringing her gift. I'm having lunch with
Phoebe and Taylor, her sister Taylor, So we're having girls
lunch for her. Birthday, and you know, he would be
invited along if he was in town, but he's not.
So I'm bringing this little card and he wrote on
the front of it to Phoebe Phoebes and there's a
big arrow and it goes to from Daddy. Oh, it's

(01:20):
really cute. I'm sure it's a very heartfelt, you know,
note or whatever, and there is something from him that
I'm going to deliver.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
That's what I was talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, that's what I'm going to deliver with my gift too,
So that'll be very sweet.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Is his gift better than your gift?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
I mean no, but it doesn't matter. We're not rating goods,
we're not rating gifts. But his card probably kills Yeah,
you know what I mean. Murphy can write, you know,
in fact, when he needs to convey something, he's better
at writing it than he is speaking it.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
He actually should save, you know, we should save a
bunch of his emails and make a book on how
to do corporate, how to.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Respond even in a tough situation. He can turn things around.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Murphy's already written an email.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
It's so funny because we all have ways that we
where we excel in communication. And you maybe don't even
realize it about yourself. You have to be really self
aware to understand that. But his is definitely in writing,
and that's a good exercise for anybody. If you have
trouble conveying something to somebody, just start writing it as
if you were never going to send it, but just
get it off your chest and you might find that

(02:29):
you can really convey Iteah he does with that. But anyway,
I'm so excited to see Phoebe. We let her pick
where she wants to go eat. It's a place I've
never been before. It's like an Asian fusion type place.
I don't know what I'm going to get. She's gonna
have to help me order because it's one of those
places with I mean, I would know what to order
if I was there on my.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Ramen and sushi and such and such.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
And all kinds of fusion sort of choices. I had
so much fun. And I've always done this for our girls,
especially as they've gotten older. When it comes time for
like a birthday, we always take them out to eat.
We'll do a family dinner with my mom and all that.
In the coming weeks when we can all make that
happen you know, as the kids get older. If you
have little kids, you know, you get to set their schedule.

(03:14):
You can say no, we're going to dinner. But when
they're older, it's it's quite the job to try to
get everybody on the same page on the same day,
at the same time. So we don't know when we're
doing her actual dinner.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
You should try doing it with five kids, but I
don't know how who all don't live in the same city.
That's nuts.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
It's like you can't even And.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
The thing is, at some point you just have to, Okay,
it is what it is. If one can't make it, yeah,
it is what it is.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well, you do want them to go on and have
their own lives. Yeah, underneath you you.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Don't start my feet or give a you know, the
guilt trip, like it really would be nice. It's like,
it is a life. I just know it's not going
to happen, so keep moving.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
It is life. So and what's funny about Phoebe having
her birthday. I do have things for her today. In fact,
by the time I see her, she won't have listened
to this podcast.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
So I did shop for her for.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Some things, you know, some gurly things and I always
put stuff together. I have one big gift which I
won't reveal here. I'll do it in the show later,
one big gift of something that she needs that she's
not expecting from me. And then some other you know
gurly type things that she setting spray and things like that,
you know, some her favorite bath products, like in travel

(04:29):
sizes though, because she's got some trips coming up with friends,
there's things like that.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Her being twenty one, as she told you what her
plans are.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Well, yes, she's been talking about this for a long time.
I think we may have mentioned it in the show
a while back. She has always been very curious about
a Martini, something about the drink, the Martini.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
With an olive in it, A basic Martin.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Basic Martini has always peaked her curiosity, and she's never
had one, and she loves olives. She's the kid that
would drink olive juice, you know, at when she was
a baby, and like pickle juice, we were never allowed
to throw it away. So I think a Martini is
right up her alley. I even told her, I said,
get you a regular one first, and then the next
time you go have one, not not right after, but

(05:12):
order a dirty one.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, if you like, I love juice, and so I
know that she.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Has plans to order her first ever martini, if not tonight,
with friends, you know, in the next week, and then
she is having a party with her friends on Friday night,
as I understand it, for her birthday. It's a tight
knit group of friends and when they have a birthday,
they usually celebrate together, you know, at the apartment she
lives with her college friends. And she actually we were

(05:39):
able to work it out where she lives with her
best friends. Oh, so she's been with for since junior
high and so a really good group of girls. And
you know, her friend Sarah will probably make her a cake.
Like it's just it's very sweet. She's gonna have a
really good birthday. But she is excited about ordering a martini.
We won't be doing that at lunch, Like, that's not today.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
That's what you think.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
No, no, no, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
So.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
I think she has a break she and Taylor on Wednesdays.
This is the coolest thing. They both have a break
around the same time and they're in different parts of
the campus. But Taylor doesn't want to leave campus and
then come back for her later class, so every Wednesday
they spend a little time together during that break. And
so being it's today, it's Wednesday, and it's Phoebe's birthday,

(06:26):
I'm meeting them, so we'll have a little time together.
I'm excited about it.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
It's fun.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
And I'll bring the presents, you know, and we'll have
dinner and then she'll open the card from Murphy, her dad,
which will probably make her cry. So happy birthday. Phoebes
a big twenty one today. She's our fairy. She's our
old soul musician and soon to be Martini connoisseur.
