Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Murphy, Sam and Jody after the Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I think that you and I Murphy need to ask
Sam's advice on summer this summer, this summer right here
and now?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Why would you want to ask for I think last.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Year you're already a month in.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
I know this is funny and I really do want
your thoughts. You last summer, I think it was last
summer you did a staycation with your kids the week
that you were able to get all the little kids.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Oh yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
You did something different every single day, and Murphy and
I are doing that this year. We usually go somewhere
with our girls. You should have seen their faces when
I told them this year we're doing something called a
stay case and they were like.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
And if we just had to explain, Okay, I mean
there are going to be some summers where for financial reasons,
a staycation is we do it right.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I'm actually getting a little excited about it. It's because
there are things near here that I would like to
explore and without having the.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Like when you go to the beach, everything is the
beach every day. If there's anything wrong with that, because
I would love to do it, and.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
That pretty quickly, but in two days I'm over it.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
But with a staycation, it's a different trip every day
because wait to sell it. We went hiking one day,
it saw waterfall. We went to a space center one day.
That's awesome, there's yeah, I'm looking forward to figure out what
your range is. Probably a couple hours, we know, and
then go out and do it and give yourself a

(01:29):
couple hours to come back and before you go, find
a place to eat there. Sure research it. I mean
I do that all the time.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yah. Sam's always been.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
In fact, when the three of us have traveled together,
Sam's always been anyway, He's always picked out the you know,
the place that's locally.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Owned, the hole in the wall.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
So do that, you know where you're gonna go. So
instead of just hitting the quickie drive throughs on the way,
you know, make that part of the staycation.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, what's fun is that out there? For there are
five days we know we're gonna take. We might take six.
It might be you know, a Saturday included. But in
us getting in the car and going staycationhy Phoebe's already
planned out like four, She's like to go here, here, here,
and here, and they're all good, like, okay, check, but
it'll be nice and it from the times. Some of

(02:14):
these places we've done before, and things we've done before,
but never with you know, the feel of being off
from everything. Does that makes sense? Yeah, so I'm excited
about that.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
But I think that that's the part you have to do,
you know, because the more you're the more you hang
around the house, the more likely are to try to
do chores or fix its or things like that, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Instead of just our rule needs to be we get
up and we go.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Maybe we could run an RV.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
No, I'm sorry, let's see who doesn't like RV's here.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well, it's nothing my bag, Jody.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
It just doesn't relish the idea of driving, sleeping, and
using the restroom in.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
The same place.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I love it for tailgating. I've been in RV's, okay,
it's not like I've never known it.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I love RV's. I think it's the coolest thing in
the world.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
I don't want to sleep and clean myself in the
same I saw sat all day.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
But they're like rolling houses. They're so comfortable. Now they
are TV stereo system all, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It also is great hotels, Airbnbs.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
You know, if you're thinking of the food thing. I
hate to keep coming back to that, but go to
like the diners, drive ins and dives. Websit totally because
he hits everywhere and it's always the hole in the
walls or something that yeah, no one's ever tried.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Yeah, And so you can use vacation as sort of
a little excuse to deviate.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
From the regular diet like that.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
You know, yeah every week, Look it's Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I do at some point I do want to do
the RV thing, just because I think it would be fun.
I know.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Well, but I also know.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
This is what's interesting about Jody is like when she
says she's over the beat, she doesn't mean the beauty
of it or that sort of thing. What Jody means
is if it's the same thing and she's not doing anything.
Sitting still is just not Jody's game. Jody cannot sit
still for very long. So I think an RV is
kind of the same thing, because you would be you
wouldn't have a change of scenery except for what's outside

(03:59):
the windows. But I'm telling you, I just just there's
some RV's that are so cool.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Now, well, you and can go on a brocation.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Well, if you need a change of scene or ain't,
just walk to the bedroom in the back.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Okay, I want to say, you know what, I wonder
if part of it is that she doesn't trust me.
Surety knows I hit curbs in an SUV. Maybe she's
worried about me.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
And you know, you know what.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I never thought of that, sweetie, But you better believe
I don't want you driving that.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Oh okay, draw scares me.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I don't want to drive that.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I could drive that. The only thing that I shouldn't do.
You know, they're like some banks have to drive through
with the narrow cement curbs on each side. And if
you don't have cameras down there.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
So we don't go to the bank and an RV,
well you.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Probably couldn't fit it through one anyway. I'd be the idiot,
would be going to a bank and an RV.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Exactly. You just have a dream of being cousin Eddie.
You could wear your cousin Eddie outfit if we ever
do it.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
I don't think i've ever seen an RV had a
fast food drive.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
You know why, because you can't.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
I don't think. I don't think there's enough clearance. For one,
that's probably why.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Going back parking in their front yard.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, you could do that.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Two things I want to see.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Well, that's true.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
We wouldn't have to actually go anywhere but out the
front dolta stay.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Two things. I do think it has the potential. I
don't want to overplan it. I just want to know
we get up and we go every day. It has
the potential for being very And we've talked about this
before on the show. You know it the best times
that you have with your family are the things that
are just unplanned. It has the potential to be some
of the best. You know, as long as we go

(05:32):
do and and don't over you know, don't don't keep
this isld be the greatest day ever. Well, just go
go have fun together and spend the time together. The
other thing is vacation. On vacation, I find that it
works for me that I'm a little different. I know
you said I can't sit still, but I feel like
I'm a little different on vacation. When am I getting

(05:52):
up at four o'clock in the morning and coming and
you know, working and you're more enjoyable, I'm just more chill,
waxed you.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
I mean, you're definitely dialed back a little bit, but
as I should be, right, but you but you can't
sit still leaving in a relaxed environment for too long,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I don't think that's about.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Still on the beach chair once and burned because I
fell asleep.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Well, let me put that in context. It's that you
don't want to do five days of the exact same
thing without going out to shop or do something.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
That's what I mean. True.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
But to me, I mean I whether it's the beach
or the mountains or wherever I can, I'm never going
to get tired of a sunrise and a sunset.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
You know, in a view, You're right, Murphy. When I
took the kids to the beach a few years ago,
it was after a day or so, it's like, is
there anything else we can do? Yeah, it's like I'm
sitting in the chair. I'm doing it. I could do
this five days straight and stare at the same exact thing.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's why vacations are funny when you plan them, because
not everything is for everybody. Kids want to hang upside
down on roller coasters all day, and you want to
sit in a beach chair.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Here's an idea, and I just occurred to me Jackson
went on that mystery mission trip. Yes, you're planning your
staycations to different locations one day, miss you two, Murphy
and Jody know where you're what you're doing. But every
day tell the kids you know, I'm not going to
tell you we get there.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
That's what I was looking for from you, Sam right there.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
And each day they don't know where they're going till
they get there. Yeah, and if you really want to
get them involved, you know, when you get there, say
you know, why don't y'all we're here, this is the
place we are. Why don't you google a few things.
Maybe we'll be able to squeeze this in for a
half hour on the way home. That's good idea, And
that way they got a little input and it's something
that they've always maybe been wanting to do.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
That will drive them crazy. Though. Our kids do not
like not knowing where what is it? What I can
say at car can always say surprise for you that
I want to talk to you about something later. What what?
And they're on me what? They can't stand suspense?

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Do twenty questions in the car? Okay, first question, and
asking them no, yes, whatever.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I'm in a surprised I mean, if they know that
yeah ahead of time, Hey, we're gonna you know, there
are a couple of surprise locations. You'll find out when
we get there. I think they probably try to get
We just have to make sure we don't save it
in any sort of our like you know, my Google
calendar or something that gets shared everywhere. You know, that's
a quick way to blow the surprise.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
I think that's pretty sound advice. And you know what, Sam,
I didn't even think about this. What is the website?
You said, diners and dives.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
And what and dives?

Speaker 4 (08:16):
So guy, Yeah, what's what's funny about that is even
when you live in a town and you use all
the apps on the planet, you don't always remember what's
ten blocks away or ten miles away or whatever. So
we should absolutely do that. And eating is absolutely one
of our favorite things. It's part of the it is part.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Of the true experience for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
All right, we're on it.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Well it's not until July. Missed any part of the show.
