Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Murphy saman Jody after the show. And you know,
YouTube videos are just like a godsend I think when
it comes to how to is now, especially to do
it yourself. But the only thing that you have to
make sure that you do when you use these videos is,
as I've learned, watch more than one, don't ever go
with the first one that you find unless it's like
from the official.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Manufactural know that I wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, it's Murphy's right, because usually there's people that tell you,
oh wait and don't forget this, or somebody'll forget something.
And if you're like me and you want to just
get the shortest video to get it done, and see
how not necessarily the best thing.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Okay, Yeah, that's impatience at work there. Yeah. So you know,
our oldest daughter Taylor needed the side mirrors replaced on
her car. One of them somehow got bent backwards and
so it.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Met with a mailbox it did, you know, backing up.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yea, even in a reversal maneuver.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
So you know, I just a nice thing, is Sam
that you nicely in the meantime for a month that
that mirror has had duct tape around it.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Oh fancy yeah, well it had clear duct tape too,
so it wasn't really obviously it was duct taped. It was.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
You say that, but I got in her car once
and shut the door, and I saw that mirror.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
I know, it wasn't the most secure thing in.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
The seventeen year old girl.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
And as most seventeen year old go, she doesn't care
what the car really looks like.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
She doesn't I think.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
I think that she cares, but she's more about the function.
In other words, she absolutely cared that she knocked it.
You know, the mirror around and everybody has a little
bump and bruise now and then.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
So what I'm saying is that, you know, it's so
funny for me to watch this progression of her having
a car and you, Murphy, being her dad, you know,
and you care so much about the way your car
looks like if it gets a little dust on a
WeGo wash you know, you know, things like that, and
she just doesn't wash it.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
What do you wash it for?
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I mean, my dad was the one that instilled in
me too. You know, no matter you know how old
or new year car is or any of that, how
you take care of it is really really important because
it'll last you. It's an investment and it's not cheap,
and you know so, and I've really, I think I've
done that with you know, with both girls. Phoebe's not
driving yet. Taylor overall really does take good care of it.
(02:15):
I know because I spent time with it, you know,
this weekend. So in replacing the mirror, I had to
replace both mirrors, Sam. And the reason that I had
to do that was my own little personal thing because
when you buy replacement things like that for a vehicle,
they don't come painted in the same color as the vehicle.
Oh so you know, her car is a sort of
(02:36):
a metallic blue, right, and and you know you when
you buy them, they're in black. It's kind of like
running boards or are there any accessories that you buy
on a vehicle. Nine times out of ten from the manufacturer,
it's going to be not painted right. And I didn't
want to mess with that. So you can't just replace one.
I didn't want one mirror on the left side. One
was black and one was blue.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
So because duct tape wasn't enough, she wouldn't have cared,
She would not have it.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Probably wouldn't have happened that that's a balanced thing. I
just cannot do this without it being balanced. So so
I went and I found the YouTube video. And here's
the reason I went for a second YouTube video, and
I'm so glad that I did, because to get to
the side mirror, you would think, well, you open the door,
there's got to be screws on the inside, right, you
(03:21):
just pop this baby off, And that's kind of true.
There's old plastic housing. But you can't. You can't remove
the mirror by itself without taking the door panel off
because you have to be able to there. He goes, yeah,
you have to disconnect the electrical module that you know
powers the mirrors and moves them around right Saturday. Yeah,
this will take five minutes, three hours. So the guy
(03:46):
the first video that I watched, this guy not only
took the panel off, he removed so much from the
car that I'm looking at it going do you really
have to take that much off? That's not even close
to the mirror? Why would you? I mean, he really
disassembled the entire door panel. I'm like, let me just
at least watch one more video, And I'm so glad
that I did, because the second guy literally, you know,
(04:08):
popped well, there are screws in like four different places,
and they are hiding behind little pieces of plastic and
all that, so you don't see them. And they're all
different sizes, and it requires a like a really long
Phillip screwdriver to get into it, you know, and all that.
And so the last maneuver is to pop the door off,
you know, by inserting the screwdriver at the bottom simultaneously
(04:31):
with you pulling on the handle to pop this baby
loose and then lift it off of its latch up.
And but you know, there you go. You get the
door off. And I couldn't believe it. I actually got
it on the first try. The problem with popping is
exactly the way that it sounds. You always managed to
break at least one of the little plastic cabs, you know,
(04:52):
because they just don't I think they're meant to stay
once they're put on the.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Can you buy new ones to replace those?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Or well, I mean not if they break off, you know,
that's as it did. If they pop off, I'm sure
you could. But you know, I only had one breakoff.
And the thing is the door went back just fine, and.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
I was gone and with the girls, and I got
back thinking Oh my gosh, this is gonna be I'm
gonna drive in the cars and be all in pieces
and he's going to be sweating.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
And it was the opposite.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
It took me a little bit less than an hour
to do both mirrors. Oh yeah, I could not mean
how easy it actually was. Once. I I mean, once
I popped the first door off, I'm like okay, and
the second one I couldn't believe it. I was going
to go try to find somebody else's car. I was
gitting good at well.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I got to ask this Murphy, because whenever things go
that easy for me, I always start questioning myself after Okay,
what did I mood? Did I forget? Is it really
going to work next time?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Let me tell you another little story that was going
on on our way home. We were on our way
home and I think you called me or whatever I
called you.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
You told me it went great.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
You know, I did it, And I even took her
car and had to wash her car, and I'm thinking, okay,
that's sweet. And we get back in and she's in
the car with me. Both girls are in the car
with me, and I'm like, look, Taylor, you notice anything
nice about your car? And she goes, she glanced at it, Oh,
he did the mirrors cool. I'm like, no, anything else,
And she looks at it so hard. She can't tell
(06:20):
because she just doesn't see it that way she did.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
She didn't.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
That's not her.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
She doesn't see that that it's clean. I don't know
what the difference between girls and god.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I think it is.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
I think it is because even though I had a
really not a great cars my first car as a person,
I made sure it was clean and the way I
wanted it and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Right, Yeah, that's not her jam at all.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Unfortunately, my first car you couldn't paint it because it
was rusting, but the rest of it I took really
good care of. Yeah, it's okay that she didn't notice
that part. At least it's functional. Now it's fixed, and
I do know that she appreciates it. But you know, Sam,
when I did I did the driver's door first, and
that actually went almost fall asleep except for the one
(07:05):
little plastic tab that broke. When I got to the
right side and I popped that door off, nothing snapped.
It was perfect when it came off, but because it
was at a different angle, it took me about four
times as long to put one of the screws back
because I could not work from that angle. Not different
from the other door. It's only because I'm right handed,
you know what I mean? Didn't work that way. It
(07:26):
worked fine on the other door, but it gets there.
He could not get my hand and wrist in the
right place, and every time I pushed the screw up,
it would then pop right back out, roll out of
the car. I needed to find a left hander. Yeah,
but anything, I could not believe it. So maybe the
next time he won't go as smoothly or as as easily.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
But oh no, no, no, this is a this is
a good thing.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Yourself that you can YouTube something and do it and
then not ruin your afternoon.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Well, and I suppose as long as what Sam is
saying is correct, because I did the questioning myself, as
long as Taylor doesn't come home with the door handle
in our hand or something like that will be.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
We'll see the whole panel came off. We missed any
part of the show.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
