Producer David's NEW apartment suffered a lot of water damage due to a busted pipe from the apartment above his. Thankfully he has renters insurance, but there's one thing the insurance DOESN'T cover.

so much for that. You know, this is after the show.
We just kind of keep on going and going and
going and going, really.

Speaker 2 (00:11):

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Okay, So, producer, David, you moved into a new apartment
with a roommate. You came home the other night to
find your roommate's room completely flooded because of water dripping
down from the floor above. Yes, ruining her everything and
everything her by her beds. I washed, you know, I
got the stains out. They were all brown by the
time we got there, because neither of us were home

(00:33):
when this happened, so it had been rainy.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
How were they brown? Just the water?

Speaker 5 (00:36):
I don't need a question that I don't think. Were
you literally like standing in water.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Boots on? Yeah, I had boots on. Is just sloshing everywhere.

Speaker 6 (00:45):
It went from her bedroom all the way out to
the kitchen in her bathroom like it's everywhere.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Things are destroyed.

Speaker 5 (00:50):
Were you the only person who caught it, by the way,
Oh yeah.

Speaker 6 (00:53):
The people on the third floor where the leak came
from wasn't home, and the people on the first floor
weren't home, and when they did come home, they noticed
it first because it leaked through We're on the second floor,
leaked through us to the first floor.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Crazy, And it was a pipe that exploded right on
the third field.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Yes, I'm a toilets.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
You had to make that phone call to your friend,
your roommates.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Oh he is out of town. Hey, guess why she
didn't answer.

Speaker 6 (01:16):
So I'm like, all caps, please call me asap, please
please please, like and freaking out. I was like, I
got some bad news. Well, anyway, her rooms, you know,
all messed up, and we have Renners insurance luckily. But
I started thinking, like all this week, you know, people's
been coming in and out to redo the walls, and
they've been ripping up the carpets, and to do that
they have like these huge, big big fans like underneath
the carpets to air them ount and the blowing up
and blowing out the carpets or whatever, and they have

do you humanify her set up? These things are plugged
in and have been plugged in going on for a while.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yes, And they have to do that and it's electricity.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Uh huh.

Speaker 6 (01:44):
And I like she does the cable I do electricity.
I mean, we do split it, but like you did
the electricity, I'm I'm it's under my name, so I'm
gonna get the giant bill and it comes in. So
I started wondering, was like, what, wait a minute, who's
paying for this?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
And so luckily I went, I mean not luckily.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
I went to the office of our apartment complex and
I was talking to her nicely because we kind of
got into it a little bit really before.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yes, because other.

Speaker 6 (02:07):
Things that they don't think we should they aren't taking
care of that we should have, like we should have
got notified sooner about the leak and stuff. Anyway, moving
on real, Okay, Well I asked her. He was like,
what about you know, the electric bill, and she was
very calm and she was like, look, I'll tell you
this like this is you'll just moved in. I was like, yeah,
a week ago, like this is crazy. Talk about luck

(02:27):
She goes, She'll like, what you're gonna do is once
your first bill comes in, show me that, and then
a month later when the next one comes in, show
me that. And if there's a huge difference between the
first one and the second one, then we know we'll compensate.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
You for right.

Speaker 6 (02:40):
So you know what, now I'm thinking, shoot, every light
in the apartment needs to come on for this month,
waste all the electricity.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
You just took it to a different level with that.
You know, you want justice, not revenge.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
By the way, I didn't give him that idea. Yeah,
kind of, Sam.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
It's a little sam ass. So how is your roommate doing.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
She's I mean she's dry, trying to stay dry.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, and she's getting new things with her renters insurance.

Speaker 6 (03:07):
Yeah, she's staying with a friend right now because they
just redid the walls and they like re you know,
replastered the walls and repainted it. So the fumes are
pretty bad on her side of the apartment. I mean,
my signs my room didn't get wet. My side's good.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
I'm fine everything there where you are.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
It just shows you though Renter's insurance is always an
important move. It's always worth the money.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I never had it when I rented you didn't.
