Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of the Murphy Salmon Jody After
the Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
You guys, remember last week, late last week, when I.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Gave the backed into the garage, No, that was this week.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
Now it's all running together now it is.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, okay, late last week I realized I looked around
the house and I'm like, hmm, Taylor and Phoebe are
doing okay. They're having fun. You know, Taylor's not going
astar crazy. She is accepted that she has to stay home,
she can't work in her movie theater. She's not enjoying
(00:34):
her senior year. Now, she's getting better at accepting that
this is the new routine for now. Yes, to not
go anywhere. However, our girls, we're in this. I know
they've got friends who are busy. We've got family members
whose kids are very busy. Sam, your kids, your twins
are very busy with schoolwork. Oh yeah, distance learning, daily hours. Yeah, okay,
(00:58):
our kids have not had that situation. It's been very
sparse here and there, and so there's nothing yet that's
come down with a serious, like assignment plan. So I
explained to them. I think it was this weekend, Murphy
when I was like, look, I don't want you to
have some overly regimented day. And I'm not saying you
(01:19):
have to do A B and C. But I do
want you to get up every day, and I do
want you to have like you are. I explain to them,
you've been given time, So what's something you wanted to do.
We talked about goals. What is something you want to
do that you would have done if you'd been given
a whole extra weekend or week.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
You gave him the speech that sounds like Murphy.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
I know it does.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
We have been together for twenty years.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
Yeah, rubbing off.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Finally, I just see them sort of dawdling and drifting,
and I wanted them to have at least when we
are on the other side of this and life goes
back to what they you know, what normal is for them.
I do want them to say, well, I did more
than watch Tiger King. You know.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Look, I agree with you, and that's not just a
kids at home problem. I think that's all of us.
We're completely out of our routine. I find it very
difficult to stay disciplined on some of the things that
I was doing, like exercise.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
What's that? Who needed that stop?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
You know?
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I mean, and and I was, you know, even if
it was just once a week, I was always focused
on it. I haven't done that, you know. So I
think it's really good that you're I say you, We
are trying to get them focused on that, you know,
and we're having to get them back in the habit
of Okay, you got to get up a little earlier,
and we've been nudging them back every you know, thirty minutes.
(02:36):
And keep in mind here too, you know, our girls
at the moment don't have any sort of structured distance learning.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
From school, so waiting for it.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
I mean, and that's going to happen.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
But when we don't know what, I will tell you this.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Phoebe has watched a Spentura pat detective, so she's introduced
that into her life.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
That's not really a goal. It was kind of a
goal or traditional.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
The other thing is that Taylor watched Tiger King. I
told you that. Yeah, I think in one like twenty
four hour period.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Obviously missing the point here.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Going back to your point though.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
That could set her back a grade.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
You think anyway, So I went back to them yesterday
and I said, Okay, you've had time to think about
your goal. So Phoebe is waffling between learning sign language,
which was a goal of hers, which is like cool,
like I will pay maybe we could find a free course,
or I will pay online for a course.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
It's all over Google.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
So she might dig into that. But then she heard
Taylor's option, and she might want to do Taylor's what
Taylor came up with, which is fine, She's going to
be forced to take a course. She said, I want
to take a theater course. She wants to expand her
theater game somehow, and so.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
How do you do that? Though the way things are.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
There are courses, there are online courses for everything.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Have you looked at They also have those master classes
that I'm constantly bombarded with those in Facebook ads, and
I've never really looked into them. I have no idea
how much they cost. But they've got them from Martin
Scorsese for filmmaking.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Get fifteen a month subscription. Oh really, I've looked into masterclass.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Because you can get everything, cooking, everything.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Speaking, get advice from Martin Scorsese for fifteen dollars fifteen
or twenty.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
It's a subscription. You can't just pick Marty. I think
Masterclass is its own thing. And if you're in, you're
in for all of it.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Well, if you pay your twenty blocks, can you watch
it all at one time? Be done in a month?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
No way, it's endless. If you dig into that, it's endless.
But there are a lot of universities offering free Google
it free online classes right now. And all I showed
you that Murphy. They have them on you know, writing
code and success management and exercise, and they have them
on dogs in their emotions, which I was so interested in.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Well, it's like the world's longest leisure course list, you
know what I mean. They're great ame you want, although
I'll tell you you have to be careful and this
drives me crazy too. You already have scammers that are
going into that, so you've got to be When you
google it, make sure it's an institution's name that you
recognize you.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Is college spelled with a K?
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yeah? Right, that's your first clue.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Seriously, it is that you if you have been given
the gift of time, what do you want to have
to show for it?
Speaker 5 (05:21):
After?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Is all I'm throwing out there. If Taylor wants another
theater course, then we're going to do it. But the
deal is saying that to me is one thing. How
about do it?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You know?
Speaker 2 (05:30):
So today when I do get home, it's going to
be this, okay, so where are you in the theater?
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Class gonna be like huh.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah, you know what we call that in the business world,
Jody follow up?
Speaker 4 (05:42):
But verify?
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well, I mean, I mean I'm saying that, but seriously,
if you yeah, yeah, you're trusting that it's getting done,
you're just verifying to make sure that that's actually the case.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
You know what I mean that On Taylor today, Daddy
wants me to trust, but verify.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
But if you if you don't measure it. Look, part
of a goal is having a measuring stick. That's the
only way you know you've completed the goal.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
See why they come to me?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yes, not Murphy, right, But well they're still sleep until
eleven thirty, so I'm not sure they're listening to either
of us.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
All right, here's your measuring stick, right exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
I will say this, But if we do, I mean,
if we say the things that we talk about there,
they're philosophically sound, they're great, they're the responsible parental thing
to do.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
But if if we're not.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Forging it, yeah, measuring unfortune is measuring and otherwise it's
not going to be done.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Right.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
God, you're still sleeping until eleven thirty?
Speaker 4 (06:37):
How they are?
Speaker 5 (06:38):
They're staying up so late.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I bet if I walk down the hall right now.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
That there's still asleep.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
So I know what's ridiculous for me? This is what
I'm hoping that. You know.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
This is what I've suggested for them, and I told
them they could pick the course. So whatever it is,
it doesn't have to be something serious at all, but
they are going to have to do some thing like
you're gonna have to get something out of this time
until school kicks in. But for me, my problem is
I started looking at a ton and I can't decide
what I want to do. I can't make up my mind.
(07:11):
You know, is it a deeper yoga? Is it dogs?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Or maybe take a course on decisiveness?
Speaker 5 (07:17):
No?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Are you sure.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
