Speaker 1 (00:00):
Robin terial Kid on Brisbane's Kiss ninety seven, three.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Thirteen, one six five is our number ifever you want
to get involved with the show, because we're talking about
Robin's online dating.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I mean, we tried to do a very public version
of online dating. That was awful.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I got ready and that was what last year. And
I think it has taken me to write my book
and to just get all of that stuff out of
me and for me to go Okay, Now, you've got
a perspective on your life. But you're alone, and you're lonely,
and it's been nearly four years since Seawn died and
he's not coming back. So I've got to make some
choices about where i want to be and what I
want to do. And also my kids are older and

(00:35):
they're that whole empty nest thing is going to happen
sooner rather than later, yep. So I don't want to
be alone, alone, alone on line.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Yeah, and this is why my wife raced to your
side of Ed Sharon on Saturady Opportunity. Robin's here on
her own and you're with partners.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
I need to go and dance with Robert.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
And we had such a fun night but the online
dating sucks. Man.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Have you ever done it? I had a little dabble
a few.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, it was tinderback then, Yeah, yeah, yes, and it
was it was no good.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
It's it feels very It's so visual, isn't it. It's
nothing to do with who the person is. It's just
how do they look?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Well, well, I'm doing it slightly differently. You two are
going to hate this, and that's why I'm going to
love it even more. I made a list of the
things that I think I want in a partner, and
I buried it in my pop plant because it needs
to grow. I've done.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Okay, whatever you're doing on your profile, don't start with that.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Is a picture of pot plants there, I know, but
I just do that for.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Me, like it's a vomanic thing. It's like putting, you know,
it's it's earthing it.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
So that actually, okay, okay, don't use those terms.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Things that I want plant And so that just sets
my intention, right, That's what I'm trying to do. Because
the girls pick the photos. We have none of me
with like a like I've all got sunglasses and hats
on and stuff, and and I'd said, and I'm willing
to think about these secrets now because there's a reason.

(02:04):
But I've I've said that I work in the communications business.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Okay, so fas like a spy.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, now a lot of people I've seen people that's
a big turn off.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Like I've seen people say if you're wearing giant sunglasses,
it's an instant swipe.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
No great, yeah, okay, no problem.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
See. I believe that the right person will find me,
like I will manifest this human if they're if they're
out there and are going to exist. And so I'm
just yeah, so but along the way, Jesus been fun.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, not anyone, so anyone anyone close or has it
all been?

Speaker 1 (02:37):
But what there's been just a couple of horrors. Like
one guy, for example, there's a number of people down
on the Gold Coast, don't know why. And one guy said, oh,
do you ever get down to the Gold Coast? And
I said, yeah, I've got a unit down there. Now
I don't, a friend does, but I didn't specify that right, yes,
And then he ghosted me. And I've been chatting backwards
and Fords for a really long time. And I went
back to him about three days later, and I went

(02:59):
dude like what yeah, And he goes, oh, you're one
of those power chicks and I just went, what do
you mean? And we've got a place in Brisbane and
a place on the Gold Coast and you won't need
anything from me.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, Well, I mean I guess that's I mean.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
The good thing is that if he's turned off by that,
he's not for you, you know what I mean. Like what.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
He's threatened by someone with a unit, I'll be like,
oh you gold, yes.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
And more.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
At least his caravan's good wife. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
And then there's a and a friend was telling me
this story of male friend and he was online dating
and this woman said there's one thing and they met
up for coffee. There's one thing that I have to
do as soon as we arrive, and that will determine
whether the date's going to go okay. And so he
turns up and they've been chatting backwards and forwards for
a really long time. Anyway, she goes in, like to

(03:50):
go for a hug, and he thought, okay, sure, and
she sniffs his armpions no, and it says, I'm just
checking your pheromones.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
People walk amongst them. Yeah, but it just feels like
a slave trade.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Really, it just feels like you're out there.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Like, oh it's early for a sniff test. It's bad.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Have you heard there's some new expressions now because ghosting
were all aware of and everyone's very afraid of ghosting,
there's another one called frizzling.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Have you heard of frizzling?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
So apparently frizzling is the second fear that people have.
So ghosting, of course, is where people just disappear things
seems like things are going well, and then they just
don't talk to you at all. So frizzling is like
a slower version of it. So they don't completely disappear,
but they leave you for a couple of days and
then just send you a sort of an innocuous sort
of take you're.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Going out for a few days. So they think it's
the kind way to ghost. It's frizzling.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
But will see if someone does that to me, then
I would just assume they're to it. This is the
other thing that people are talking to like twenty people
at a time, you know, so you're kind of it's
so competitive, and yet you don't even know what the
competition is. It's just icky.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
If you have experiences like this, So advice Robin thirteen
one sixty five any time, or if you've got to repotting,
we can.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
We're talking about my online dating, which sucks. I just
don't know anyone that enjoys sister.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Well, you put in front of yourself in a big
brim hat, in a pair of sunglasses. A guy who's
looking for a warm who's son safe might answer that?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
True.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Plus now and Nowada heathword's got an idea? What do
you think A.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
Well, I feel you're paying Robin.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
I'm definitely on the same journey right now, and in
the similar age bracket. Yeah, it's kind of daunting. So yeah, yeah,
the age bracket is.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
And what do you reckon that?

Speaker 5 (05:39):
Like?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Are you sticking with it?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
With the online dating you think it's like? Which which
apps are you using?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Look?

Speaker 5 (05:45):
I used if you like Bungle Hinge and those sort
of ones being there done that over the years. But
I just recently tried actual speed dating here in Brisbane,
and yeah, it's good to sort of get your sort
of you know, keep your feet back in it, get
your social skills happening, meet different people.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
So yeah, that was quite fun.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Did you meet anyone well.

Speaker 6 (06:09):
Technically on the first go kind.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
Of yes, but you know, you go through that whole
texting backwards forward thing and things like that, so look,
it may not happen. And then I've gone to another
one which was absolutely fruitless.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
And so there was speed down. You get to speak
to people a very short period of time, and Robin
doesn't have that.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Skill set exactly. It is like doing an in five minutes,
like five questions of five minutes. It's pretty full long,
but it's fun and you might need friends out of it,
and you know, the lady's absolutely lovely.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
But yeah, yeah, I would recommend it just to practice talking.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
You know, I don't think I need to No, yeah,
you're talking, is all right, although you would try and
get a lot and you'd end up being like one
of the characters out of Hamilton and.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
You speed that you'd be like, I'm bringing this pot back,
I'm a plumber. Actually, is that what you're asking?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
A little nic?

Speaker 1 (07:19):
It's involved Terry and Kids on Brisbane's Kids ninety seventy

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
