Speaker 1 (00:00):
Robin Terrrily Kip on Brisbane's Kiss ninety seven three. It's
tomorrow night at Boondall at the Entertainment Center. The Freestyle
Kings are in town. It's a choreographed two hour show
featuring double backflips, front flips, fire breathers, music, pyrotechnics and
so much more. No Terry Hanson on the Big.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Night, No, no, no, we've done doubled him just for
this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Yeah, you can check that out on our Socialist now
if you want to see Terry just getting amongst it
with the Freestyle Kings. But let's cross back to Boondle Robbie.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Can we first let's start by asking you about like
some of the stuff you've done in your career, because
I don't think people realize how truly extraordinary you are.
Deil yourself up. Yeah, come on, I know blokes don't
like doing that, but you have worked on some amazing
Hollywood films. You've done a lot of stunts for a
lot of people.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, yeah, I think the highlight was definitely doubling Daniel
Craigan's skyfall on the rooftops of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.
But you know, recently just doubled Jason Statham, and that's
the expendables that comes out. It should be coming out soon.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
What you do.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I was on the on.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
The deck of a ship and I was doing a
whip up like upside down with machine guns and the
bike shooting the bad guy but we got him.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So you're fantasy. So that's on a motocross bike on
a ship.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah okay, yeah, he's done that too.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
So Robbie, how did you start and what age were you?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I was younger than Cruise. I was about five years
old when I started riding their bikes. And then at
some point I saw Evil Knievel jump when I was
I think I was around eleven, and that's when I
become inspired and started becoming going down the road of
being electrician, and it became electrician. But then ultimately I
got I got sick and I was on my deathbed
and I realized I wanted to It's not what I
(01:48):
wanted to do with my life. So I come at
a hospital, got better and became a freesome motocross guy,
joined the Crusty Demons, and here we.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Are all these years later.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I got a little boy. Well, I've got it several
little boys, but one of them sitting here about to
do crazy things on his motorcycle and told me he
just relaxed. Dad. I got this.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Incredible because Cruz, who you're talking about, is eleven now
and he features in the show for Freestyle Kings, which
is on tomorrow night at boundles So and what age
did you get started cruise.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
On a box? I first sat on a dirt bike
when I was about three years of age.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
That's insane.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I've got a three and a half year old. I
won't let him anywhere near so that's crazy. Were you
not at all scared?
Speaker 4 (02:29):
I'm none, not too scared. You know, I can't really remember.
I was pretty young, black friend, I presume I wasn't
too scared.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
What about you, Robbie? Were you afraid seeing him getting
on a bike so young?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
No, I just we got in one of those little
strider bikes without the pedals, and so he started there,
got his balance and then the progress has been really
good with the new bikes, the staysic little electric buck.
We put him in one of those and he learned
front to control early. And once he got on a
dirt bike, he kind of just took off and he
had great time, and every time we went out of
the garage he jumped on his motor cycle. He wanted
(03:00):
to write it. It's just it's been authentic, and you know,
I definitely encourage him to what he's capable of and
stuff of that, but there's no pressure and he's he's
always like saying, Dad, I want to do this, I
want to do that. So ultimately, when he jumped the
ramp the first time, I was sell on him. He
wasn't ready, and he was selling me he was. So
I was like, all right, I'll just take a back
seat if you want to. And and it's been happy sailing.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Okay. What did his mom say, Cruise?
Speaker 4 (03:27):
She wasn't too pleasant with the idea approve it first.
You know, I took a bit of talking into several days.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I was mum, jessup fingernails when Kris rides, I bet
she does.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Has anything happened, Cruise? Have you have you been injured
at all?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Oh? Yeah. The first day that I hit the ramp,
I had a little crash in the front yard and
then I took a little break.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Then a little breakwhere on the body.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yeah, I hurt my foot, so I had to take
a little break and then once I was all here,
I don't want back and hit it again and luckily
been crash then. So yeah, it's been pretty good since
I last tour that I had a little crash in
practice and went on wash my front wheel went under
the stage, hit my head. But other than that, we're
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Probably what do you do? What do you do when
that happens, because you know, like you're in a this
is a show, this is a performance, but that's also
your kid.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, ultimately, I just you know, try and take lessons
out of it, and you know, for the most part,
when he had that first crash, he learned, you know,
a lot of lessons about his technique, body position. So
it's actually kind of like we used it as safety
guys when he has mistakes and he learns things he
needs to remember to keep himself safe. So the crash
last tour under the stage was just unfortunate, a bit
(04:45):
of a circumstantial thing, but that we got super lucky there,
but he was safe and so we actually everyone learned
a lesson from that. We made it safer and this
year's tour start with we've made some precautionary changes so
that doesn't happen again. But yeah, so far it's been good.
I mean we have the introduction now with the airbag lending,
so that makes things safer, and then the rest of
it is just them believing in himself and he's a
(05:07):
confident little guy. He's doing well, so I'm proud of him.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's improbable. Terry and Kiv on Frisbane's Cheese ninety seventy
