Speaker 1 (00:00):
Roluntarily kid on Brisbane's Kiss.

Speaker 2 (00:05):

can go to our website at Kiss ninety seven three
dot com dot au followed links to full disclosure, no
exposure and you get to tell your story with complete anonymity.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
When we love that about you.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yes, yes, And.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
So many people have told their story. This was a
big one about catfishing film.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Girl, and it didn't work out. I was really really
bitter about side. I was waiting till she was dating again,
and then I credited MySpace page and got in contact
with her new broke and just really went to catfish
down with him film.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Who would have thought would have so many people that
have been catfished?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Sadly, it's very common. Jane of West End, what happened?

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Who are currently right in the middle of a catfishing
situation with my sister in law. She met a guy
online in August last year. He is overseas and coming
back to his home here in Brisbane. She's just come
out of a divorce and very vulnerable. She's just had

(01:10):
a property settlement done and she told him about this
and she has been scammed two hundred thousand dollars?

Speaker 1 (01:20):
How how did she did she give him the money?
He asked for it and she gave it to him.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, because she's so desperate him to come home here.
She's packed up a house. She's ready to move in
with him. I went to the address that she gave
me and there's a lovely couple living there and they've
been there for four years.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And that's supposed to be his house.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Yes, yep, that's empty and ready for them to move
in to be their new love there. Do we even
think this guy is in whichever overseas place he is
or exists in that right?

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Is any he will show up?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
No, he's meant to be here today. Who've been to
the police and they're not that interested because this happens
all the time. But you have to go through the
cyber crime process.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
So she still believes he's a real thing, doesn't she.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Unfortunately, there's still that that flicker of hope there.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, yeah, hope the problem, isn't it because she wants
me to be real?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, he's sitting in a call center somewhere and he's
going home to his one kids every night probably.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
And there's no way of tracking who what, How have
you ever spoken or texted or had any communication with him.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
No, we haven't. We we've encouraged her since Augus last
year to send an engineer apparently to send a copy
of his passport and so forth, and he said that
he felt that that was unsafe to do so online.
How does an Australian go and work overseas without Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Somehow, and how is it safe to send two hundred
thousand dollars online?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
You know?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, he's happy with that.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
So she's even gone to the degree of she's lost
all her settlement money, she's taken out a credit card
and she's advanced it all in cash, and she's now
in an absolutely horrific situation but.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Still believes in him.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I mean, I don't even know what to say to you, Jane,
because unless she's willing to stop it, she'll end up
with nothing.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Well, it's already it's already at that point of she
has nothing. And you know, I've read all the messages
and you can see how a vulnerable person that has
low self esteem could be sucked in so easily because
they have an excuse for everything.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Jane, I mean, this is really, really, really like and
I don't even know if we could do it. But
being a radio station, like, if there was any way
of us being able to use our resources to prove
to her that that guy doesn't exist, do you reckon?
She'd be up for it.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Look, she might be, She might be. You know, he's
meant to arrive today. We know that he's not and
there's been two WhatsApp messages and one miscall.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, we've got a PI that we can access PI Dave,
Who's awesome. But yeah, it's whether she would be willing
to chat to us. How old is she?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
She's fifty in August.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
And got kids.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
No, no, this is her first husband passed away when
she was in the thirties. She's really bad into mettresses.
Couldn't have he says, Oh, my wife passed away.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Just let us get some details from you. Let's chat
a little bit more. But maybe we could help.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
That would be awesome. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
This is a very tough day for your sisters, so
hank close to her.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I will. It is a tough day.
She also needs to really do the cyber crime form today,
which she wouldn't do until to be came in the
chance that he may arrive.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
He's not coming. Thanks Jane, you haven't met you.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
No, I haven't. I'm excited about.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, and this will be the time where we will
at least get a resolution if if she's up for it.
So I mean, hopefully Jane will talk to whoever this
her sister in Laura is and we can go from there.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Imagine if the guy actually shows up at the airport
today and we're all wrong.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Imagine.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I know it's unlike you to go to the airport when.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
It's a problem. Arry and kid On Brisbane's Chis ninety
seventy three.
