Speaker 1 (00:00):
Robin terial Kid on Brisbane's Kiss ninety seven three. We've
been talking catfishing the last couple of days, and here's
the call we promised. Hey Jane, Hi, we were talking
to you yesterday. You were telling us a horrendous story
about your sister in law being catfished, and we left
you saying would you go and talk to her and

(00:23):
see if she will talk to us? What did you
find out?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
At this point he was due to arrive yesterday. He
didn't arrive and just said, yeah, look, I just really
want to get answers. So she was very happy to
accept your kind offer.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Great, okay, Well, our producers have just got her on
the line. Hey Annie, Hi, how are you going okay?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Sofa?

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Annie? Can you just tell us in your words exactly
what's happened to you?

Speaker 4 (00:53):
So over the last.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Couple of years, I've had quite a few issues. I
had a nose breakdown and my husband left me at
the same time. So I moved in with Jane and
they helped me get through. So the next year I
had to try and get my life back together, got
a job, did all that and going through the divorce
and that was just a nightmare. By itself, and then

(01:17):
my family suggested, Hey, I wanted to go online, you know, dating,
and then I met this man. I didn't know at
first that he was not in the country. He told
me the next time. We got off the dating site
and went on to WhatsApp, and certain things had occurred,
like he dropped his phone, cameras didn't work, so we

(01:37):
couldn't FaceTime, couldn't see them, and then started, you know,
for him to finish his project. He needed assistance with
money to do this, so I sent money.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
How much money? Annie?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Overall?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Around two hundred thousand.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
K oh my goodness. Okay, any where was he? Did you?
You said he wasn't in Australia. You thought he was
in the big Did you find out where he ended up?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Was? He's in South Africa, can working as an electrical
engineer on a project. Every time he needed to have
more money, there was another issue and he was trying
to go to his family, but he had already depleted
them apparently, And so I actually got a credit card
and kept increasing that to help.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Had you ever seen him at this point? Had you
ever visually laid eyes on him?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Only once? I had a video chat with him regular
face to FaceTime. No, nothing like.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
That at all on the video chat.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Annie, So you did talk to the man who and
he was how he had earlier described himself.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
And we'd speak every morning and afternoon generally because of
the time difference, and we'd talk for quite a while,
talk about everything, you know, all things that we have
in common, which was quite a lot.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Okay, hey Jane here, of course you here, sorry, you've
been listening in. So has a Swedish accent and said
he was South African.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
No, no, no, he's Australian.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Oh said, he's Australian Redcliff. He's Australian from Redcliffe, but
he lives in South Africa. And did he explain the
Swedish accent?

Speaker 3 (03:15):
He came from Sweden.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
He came from Sweden before Redcliffe and then Africa.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeh, yeah, he moved over here with his wife and
his wife had passed away five years ago.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
So okay, Annie, how long have you been dealing with
him for?

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Since August last year?

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Can I ask you, mate, what do you think is
happening here?

Speaker 4 (03:36):
I don't know. I'd like an answer. I feel stupid,
I feel foolish, but it's kind of got a glimmer
of hope that I know it's stupid.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Hang on, hang on, So you feel stupid in terms
of believing in him? Yeah, And what's the glimmer of
hope in him or that you think he may well
still be the person that he says he is?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Annie? Why have you then given your phone to Jane?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Because Jane's protecting me, not wanting me to invest anymore
money because I had lied, but I hadn't given all
this money and it got deeper and deeper, and I
got short.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Term lines and then it got worse and I borrowed
money from my mum and lying about that.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Annie, You've got nothing left? Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 4 (04:29):
I have nothing left, my tax freefrond from last year,
my bonus, myfe my divorced mottlement.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Everything's gone.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Annie. Are you willing for us to we have access
to a PI a great guy called Dave who's done
a lot of work for us in the past and
is incredibly successful at what he does. Are you willing
for us to tell him your story and get some
answers for you.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
I would really like some answers.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I have a really good job and she's a professional.
You know, she's an executive. You know he's not a
fool by any means.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Let us get on to p I Dave. We'll get
you guys back on the line, and we will get
him onto this case and see what he can find out.
Is that okay, thank you, thank you. All right, that's
the next step.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
That's tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
And can I tell you I haven't been around the
briefly with p I Dave before. He is a fascinating
individual to listen to. And this guy thinks he's bulletproof,
but there are chinks there and Dave will find them.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
It's important. Terry and Kims on Christune's Cheese
