Speaker 1 (00:00):
Robin terial Kid on Brisbane's Kiss ninety seven to three.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, let me give you a let me give
you a twenty second recap.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
We've got luck.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
You've got Annie, who's right here in Brisbane, who was
professionally catfish by a man cost her over two hundred
thousand dollars. Our Pi Dave first was able to convince
Annie that the man wasn't real, and secondly was able
to trace some of that money to Ipswich, where a
woman there was being used as a mule or a
money launderer. Incredibly, she had twenty four thousand dollars of

(00:32):
Annie's money still and has since returned that money. So
we're going to bring them together this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Annie, that was the one pretty bright moment in a
tough time.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Hey, it's such a windfall. And I'm so incredibly grateful.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Who are you grateful to.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Pida for finding the lady who was that final or
that lifeline to the catfish and that she still had
some money, and she added the kindness of her heart
she gave back and I am truly grateful to her.
And she didn't have to. She didn't have to. She said, no,

(01:08):
I don't know anything.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
And well she's been listening.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
We're going to call her. Meghan, Hello, Meighen, Hello, how
are you going?

Speaker 5 (01:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:18):
B Lonan, I mean this has been huge for you
to tell us about what happened when PI Dave contacted you.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
I just feel like a d I was devastated. He's
told me he loved me and he wanted to marry
me and going to make me the happiest woman in
the world.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
And Meghan, how long was that a year or two?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
And you totally understand what Annie's talking about that he
was really convincing.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
He is really convincing it. And I feel sorry for
the people out there that eat comes next.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
You get the feeling then, Meghan that now that you've
found out that he's a liar, that he'll just look
for another revenue stream. He'll move on to someone else.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Yeah, yeah, I feel so bad.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Did you lose money to him?

Speaker 5 (02:04):
About twenty thousand.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
When Annie first transferred money into your account. The story
was that he needed the money and was going to
have someone send it to him and then you would
have to on send it. But you didn't send the
full fifty thousand. He would have been putting you under
extreme pressure to send it all.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
She was threatening me and once the money went into
my account, and if I didn't send it, he was
going to get people to come to my house.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
So why didn't you send the whole amount?

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Because the person come to my house and told me
what was going on, so I stopped it.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Wow, So it's timing, yes, So if PI Dave had
come a few days later, it might have been too late.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
I'm not coping well at all because he calmed me
to do something that was bad.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
And he what it'd like to hear Megan's voice after
all this time.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Firstly, let me just say thank you. Honestly you have
helped me, like I totally grateful. But to hear that
it's threatening you.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Now I have to go and block my count because
he's got some money to go and take the money
out of my count because he doesn't know that it's.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Not there, and does he know where you live? I
don't think so okay, so he can't come again.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
You know it's switch, but that's it.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
This man is a liar.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
There's nothing about what this man says, both good and bad,
that is true. And this man's taken twenty thousand dollars
of your hard earned cash.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Have you got people around you that can help you?

Speaker 5 (03:32):
My children?

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Have you told them?

Speaker 5 (03:35):
My son? Yeah? My daughter know, because I want to
tell her in person. I haven't seen her.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
We can offer you some support with a counselor. We've
got the best counselor ever, called Heidi from Heidi's Counseling Service.
If that would assist you, because this is not your fault.
You've done nothing wrong. In fact, what you've done is
help Danny get back on her feet.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
I still feel bad because I feel like I should
be painted some of that back.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
No, no, no, no, don't don't feel like that. Please, honestly, Meghan,
what has happened is you have stopped a lifeline of
finances going through to him, Okay, and that is going
to annoy him, which is great.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Meghan. Have you done report to cybercrime on this one,
because that's something that may someone can help us.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
Trying to but I've been trying for days to work
out how to fill out the form. I'm not real
smart enough.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, it's quite long when you have to put in
each individual transaction right, quite confronting when you first have
to do it. So maybe giving them a call might
be the best.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yea, honestly, And you know what, Meghan, my gut says
to me, you need to block this man.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
The only thing is he's got me email addressed too.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Does the email you actually get your kids to talk
you through a way. There's a way Mega that you
can send those those emails straight to spam. You never
even have to see him.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Oh you can just put an automatic reply on it
and tell.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Him to Yeah, tell us what you really think.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
I would be putting on an auto reply saying come
me here and see me and then you give me
my money back or otherwise. Meghan, you got to take
the power back. It's not your fault. We were both
sucked in. He asked me to get married to him too.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
He kept telling me that you were his mate secretary
and he's just getting MUTI put the money you might count.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
And it's amazing that you're empowered by all of this.
And and Meghan, I'm not sure you're quite there yet.
But what I will say to you is, in a moment,
you made a decision to help a woman you'd never met,
even though you were still believing that this bloke was
someone who loved you. And that is an incre betibly

(06:00):
honorable and amazing thing to do. Even though you lost
money yourself, you could have kept that and you would
have been not out of pocket at all. In fact,
you could have made a profit out of that, and
you didn't.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
So you wouldn't do that.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
It's not my money, right, And how honorable are you?

Speaker 1 (06:18):
And that's why you got catfish because of your kind heart.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
