(00:00):
Happy Wednesday, friends, Welcome tothe Thought Shower. Intern John is my
name? Crazy Week kidding. I'mgonna try and get away from saying that,
although wild morning for sure saw mylife flash before my eyes. I
was driving to work. I wasgetting on the entrance ramp to get on
the two seventy and maybe I don'tknow, fifty yards up the entrance ramp,

(00:26):
maybe less than that, there weretwo giant work trucks kind of pointed
in blocking the entrance ramp. Iwas like, almost didn't have to slam
my branks, but it was enoughto be like, they weren't at the
entrance of the entrance ramp, butthat makes sense. It was far enough
to be like, do all,are you guys gonna open up or what?
And when I realized they weren't gonnado that, I was gonna I

(00:49):
had to stop, make a Uturn and go the wrong way down the
entrance ramp. And instantly as I'mdoing that, a guy comes flying up
the entrance ramp and I say outloud, oh God, I'm gonna get
hit. Thank God that dude realizedand like stopped. I could very easily
have been t boned just because thisentrance ramp is like a it's kind of

(01:11):
blind. It's a little bit ofa curve going up, So the guy
for sure didn't see me. SoI'm sure he was flying up the entrance
ramp, you know, forty fortyfive fifty miles prow whatever it was.
If he had been on his phoneor not paying attention, that could have
been we'd have been rough. Yeah. A year ago tomorrow I got hit
by the drunk driver, which iscrazy. Still I still think about that

(01:34):
as far as how different things couldhave been. You know, I was
driving home from the vet's office andit was that red light, and I
had seen this guy driving like amoron. Didn't know he was drunk,
but he was just kind of likeweaving in and out. I just thought
he was on his phone. ThenI'm stopped at a stop light behind the
other car. I'm on the phoneMax girlfriend, and I see this guy

(01:56):
flying down and I say to Max'sgirlfriend, I'm about to get an accident.
Soon as I said that, boomre around did my phone flies?
Everything flies? The phone goes intoemergency mode, which is interesting because it
must have like a pressure sensor orsomething. The phone's like we've sincely been
an accident. We are going tocall nine on one your behalf, which

(02:20):
is like, okay, very nice, sure and uh yeah, but I
think about having t boned or hitsomewhere else that would have been a disaster,
like that would have changed a lotof things. I got lucky in
that sense. But man, dude, that's why I like, I think
having a motorcycle would be cool, like in in thought, like I'm sure

(02:45):
it feels great too. I don'tknow crews down the highway and that kind
of thing. But man with driverstoday is not paying attention. I would
be so afraid unless I just didit on like back roads, but like
doing the motor cycle on to seventyor fourwenty five, there's no way,
dude. Then he had those guyswho will do the motorcycle between the lines

(03:09):
and like this go up. I'mlike, man, somebody opens their door
or something that. Anyway, we'realive, We're doing well. We're having
a good week. I've been doinghockey this week, hockey camp, which
has been a lot of fun.The freshman the class of twenty and twenty
eight, which is uh, it'svery exciting. You know, it's crazy.

(03:32):
This would be my ninth year coaching, and it's gotten to the point
now where we've had so many,i mean eight graduating classes where I'm starting
to mix them up. I'm like, oh, is this what it's like
for a teacher now where it's liketrying to figure because usually I could keep
track of like who is on whoseteam? You know, who graduated when.

(03:53):
But now it's getting the point where'mlike, oh, man, we
just keep going and going and going. Although it's one the greatest things and
greatest pleasures of my life, Iwant to get a couple of things that
I got something for you at theend here too, appreciate you hanging out.
These are the things experts say isstop expecting from other people. I
will say, if you're therapy throughlife in general, I have learned things

(04:17):
are a lot easier when you don'texpect anything from anybody, and then you
know you're pleasantly surprised. You know. Number one thing they say is stop
expecting people to always agree with you. I think that's fair. I would
also say, you don't want peopleto always agree with you. I think
that's I've seen folks who have that, who have like they're surrounded by people

(04:46):
who always the yes men you couldsay, and to me, it's like,
that's not I don't want that.I'm surrounded by no men and no
women all the time. People tellme no are telling my idea is dumb,
and that shod a reverse engineer itto make it a better. Shelby
Sauce is an expert, then she'lltell me all my ideas are dumb.
Oh man, stop expecting people toread your mind. This is a big

(05:10):
one, man, especially I alwayssaying relationships, usually talking to the ladies
listening to the show, like yourman does not want to be in the
doghouse. He like, that's nota fun place to be in. So
if he's in there and you thinkhe knows why, he probably doesn't.
And I think that at least fordudes, if he is worth it,

(05:32):
right, he's gonna do things tomake you happy. So if there's something
he's not doing, if he's worthit, he would do it if he
knew what it was. If thatmakes sense, you know what I mean?
And I get I guess the exampleI've used before and not made so
much like this is like if yougo to the doctor's office and you're not
gonna tell a doctor was wrong, but expect him to figure it out.

(05:54):
They probably will eventually, but it'dbe easier if he gave him a general
idea. You know what I mean. I think that it's fair in life,
man, save time. Life isshort, you ever know it's and
to the end. You could getpopped by a car on the entrance ramp,
you know what I mean. Stopexpecting people to always be perfect?
Yeah? Interesting, right, benice. It's almost like sometimes we think,

(06:17):
well, we know, we knowit ourselves, we're not perfect,
but we want other people to be. And it's like, yeah, it'd
be a lot of easier if theywere. But I mean, I guess
be friends with me. It's longas I say, be my friend.
Stop expecting people to always be availablefor you. Interesting, they say,
everyone has their own lives, priority, responsibilities. It's unrealistic to expect someone

(06:41):
to drop everything to be there foryou whenever you need them. Yeah,
it's funny, like when you havelike a meta moment where you're driving around
and you see the person next inthe car and you go, oh,
like this person also has their ownlife that's just as complex and tied up,
and we together is mine? It'sa wild thought, like I'm just

(07:03):
a minor part today in somebody else'slife. Even the people who's lives are
in every day. It's like whenyou when they leave work, it's like,
oh, they have their own complicatedlives, conversations, all that good
stuff. It's like, damn, life's complicated. Man. Yeah, stop
expecting people prioritize you over everything else. They say, well, it's natural

(07:24):
to why I feel important to peoplewho care about It's unrealistic to expect and
prioritize you above everything else in theirlives. I do think we get in
that realm of like, well,if I do this for somebody else,
they'll do it for me. Andthat's just not realistic either. It's not
a guarantee. It's like there's nono guarantee that's gonna happen. You know,

(07:47):
put yourself first certainly, and somebodyelse will put you first. You
know, it's not much you cando, but don't get hump on it.
Stop expecting people to always live upto your ideals. Yes, I
do think I mentioned this on theshow before and people ask about, you
know, War of the Roses sometimesand why it seems obvious somebody is cheating

(08:09):
and why somebody wouldn't figure out intheir own I've always kind of gotten the
belief of I think that the issueis if you wouldn't do that to somebody
else, you wouldn't expect them todo it to you. What I mean
by that is, if you wouldnot cheat on your partner, you would
never put yourself in a spot tocheat. You would never expect they would

(08:30):
do it to you, right.I think that's how this kind of stuff
happens. I think that's how peoplefall for scams sometimes, where it's like
I would never scam somebody, sowhy would I assume somebody do it to
me? And you know, unfortunatelythat's how it is. You know,
they say, we all have ourown set of ideals next when the expectations
of how people should behave or think. But the reality is people are complex

(08:52):
and multifaceted. They won't always fitneatly into our perceived notions. One hundred
and ten percent, I got somethingfor you. You've made it this far
in the podcast. Thank you.Dramatic pause for effect. Listen. I'm

(09:16):
gonna have more later on about this. I'm gonna have more details, certainly,
but I would give you a headsup because you're a thought because of
this on the podcast. To bechecking my instagram at Internjohn Radio around seven
