(00:00):
And a Happy Friday. Friends,Welcome to the Thoughts Shower. Intern John
is my name. By the timethis comes out, I'll be in Nashville,
baby, going down to see family, see some friends. I'll be
honest that it's It used to bestressful going home to Minnesota when my parents

(00:20):
live there, because it always kindof felt like not a job per se,
but I had to see a lotof people, you know what I
mean, And like my time waskind of like it was packed from like
landing to leaving. Where I wouldcome in a day early, not tell
anybody. I would just be like, yeah, I'm you know, I'm
coming in on Wednesday. By actuallybeing on Tuesday. Nashville's kind of coming

(00:43):
that way because forever reason, Likethere's a lot of radio friends in Nashville,
but a lot of friends are movingto the area. Plus my buddy
Dante, who started the first HBCUhockey team, we'll be down there as
well, So I'm excited. It'sgonna be nice to get down there.
Hattie Bee's Chicken is my go toNashville hot chicken. You got to do

(01:06):
it. I don't like it toospicy. Though I've talked about this in
the show. Like, I likespicy food when it adds to the taste.
Spicy food for the sake of beingspicy, to me is just dumb
when people want to like burn theirmouth just to be like al, but
it was spicy. Yeah I getthat, but why you know what I
mean, not necessarily a fan ofthat. They also just got raisin canes,

(01:30):
which I'm excited about. For whateverreason, in Minnesota we had raisin
canes and like nobody else did,Like I know, they just kind of
came out here. Let me seewhat their base out of. Hold on
bat and rouge. Okay, yeah, so that makes no sense. So
there's one in Sterling and looks likethere's one downtown too. It's good,

(01:53):
Like I mean, the chicken isgood. I think the sauce is good.
They have Zaxby's too, Zaxby's.I'm kind of gonna be honest,
eh, Yeah, it's I sauce. Always talked really like, talked of
Zaxby's a lot. Then the firsttime I went there with my buddy Thor,
they were out of Zaxby's sauce, which to me is odd, Like

(02:14):
if you're a fast food restaurant,I don't think you have an excuse to
run out of anything if you're achain, Like if if, as I
say, John's restaurant had as manylocations as McDonald's, right, and if
John's restaurant ran out of John's sauce, I should be able to go down
to the next restaurant, like, hey, we ran out of sauce.

(02:36):
Caull borrow some of yours. Youknow what I mean? If it's like
as long as it's packaged in Mayalready, I'm not saying like if it's
open, but like that to me, should never happened. Dude, there
was We did the comedy show inLeesburg years ago, and we try to
make a late night run with acertain fine text Mechs restaurant that is h
quick. If you get to thedrift they were at tacos. Eric Hoodie

(03:00):
came back with bags of cheese rollups. I'm like, what the hell is
this? Like they ran out oftaco meat? Like how it's in your
name? How do we run outof taco meat? Shouldn't somebody know?
And then does have to be complaining. But there's also times like we'll get
coffee in the morning from different placesand if like I'll get like like almond

(03:21):
milk or something to mine. Andif the sometimes in the morning of the
place is like, oh, we'reout of almond milk, it's like you
knew last night that you were out, you know what I mean, Like
nobody wanted to like, oh,we probably should get for the next day.
Now I get it too. Atsome point, do you really care
or has it become not my problem? You know what I mean? I

(03:43):
kind of think we get to thatboat where it's like, eh, not
my problem. I don't want toworry about it. Whatever. Anyway,
I hope you having a great Fourthof July, whatever you are doing,
hopefully you a chance to relax anddo that. My aunt had a twenty
foot long water slow, which isexciting. That's one of those ones where
you look at it, I coulddo one, do one slide, then

(04:05):
you go not try and tear myacl on the water slide. You know
that's not necessarily the vibe we want. As we get halfway through twenty twenty
four, By the way, weare now officially two weeks away from the
comedy starting. I am so stinkingexcited. Friday, July nineteenth, huh

(04:26):
Arlington Draft House myself saw us daMeg cow Crumber. That is the first
show. Then we do August seventeenth, rams Head Live. You want to
get tickets Internshooncomedy dot Com. Icannot wait to see you there. I've
been going through the material. It'sso good and I know, like again,
you're supposed to be humble and whatever, but I'm really proud of this
show. I'm excited for you tosee it. You deserve a night out.

(04:47):
We cannot wait to see you again. July nineteenth, first show.
Why do you at this fear Friday? The bad habits all intelligent men have
in common. Now, I considermy elf fairly intelligent. Do I make
dumb mistakes all time? All thetime. I'm sure I've made mistakes today

(05:09):
that I haven't even realized yet.Well I ever realized them, you know,
who knows. Oh that's a goodquestion. If at the end of
your life there was an option tosee all the decisions that greatly change the
outcourse of your life, or maybeby your ten biggest decisions and how it
w've gone the other way, wouldyou want to see it? One of

(05:29):
my biggest ones that I look backon. So I started. I'm from
Minnesota, right, My first radiojob outside of Minnesota was Des Moines.
However, at the time I hadan offered to go to Des Moines stay
with iHeart, do nights and schedulemusic for very little money. I had
to offer the same time to goto Amaha, Nebraska not iHeart to do

(05:53):
co hosts the morning show. They'regonna pay me a lot more in like
a lot more like twenty five grand, which is a lot, you know,
sneeze coming on bless me. Butthey also are gonna give me free
rent, which like you know,to me, like I've been living like
a king because I was making Ithink, like seventeen thousand dollars and when

(06:15):
I was in Minneapolis and so beena raise and then free rent. But
it wouldn't have been with iHeart. And obviously you know, things have worked
out pretty well now. I wasin Des Moines for eleven months maybe before
Kane called me come out DC,So like what would have happened, dude,
who knows? It's crazy to thinkabout. Luckily, I trusted my
gut, but my goodness. Thefirst thing is that they overthink everything.

(06:41):
Is say, a sharp mind cansometimes become a double edged sword. Intelligent
men often analyzed situations to death, get lost in the maze possibilities and potential
outcomes. I think that I amguilty of this. I will overthink the
smallest of things and underthink the biggestof decisions. I think a lot of

(07:01):
it has to do with some ofbeing a public eye, and I think
a lot has to do with, you know, having people that depend on
me. But for sure, theyunderestimate the power of simplicity. They say,
sometimes most elegant solutions are the simplestones. They say intelligent men over
complicate things, trying to find acomplex answer that when I straightforward one will
suffice. I think I try tofind the easiest way I do. I

(07:25):
do see that they can be overlycritical of themselves. They say intelligence doesn't
always equate to confidence. In fact, some intelligent men could be incredibly self
critical, holding themselves and possibly highstandards. I wouldn't say that I lack
confidence, However, I do thinkI hold myself to a very high standard.

(07:46):
I think that it's twofold. Ibelieve there's there's a lot of people
who stuck their neck out for me, you know what I mean. There's
a lot of people that I wantto prove right on in the same token,
there's a lot of people I wantto prove wrong. I mean,
I get Joey out of both.So obviously the folks that stuck the neck
out to me, I want themto be like, you know, I

(08:07):
made them look good. Yeah,I mean. There's a great clip the
NHL Hockey Draft was this past weekendin Minnesota. Draft of the kid in
the fourth round. He was supposedto be a first round pick, got
injured, YadA, YadA, Butthere's a great video of him walking up
to the Minnesota general manager and saying, you just made the best pick in
history. I promise I'm gonna bethe biggest deal of this draft, basically

(08:30):
saying like you got me at abargain. I'm gonna make you look so
right. And I've told that tofolks too in radio. I'm like,
I'm gonna make you look so smart. I believe that. I think that's
it's an important thing to do.Ummm, let me see, there's God,
there's a little so many of thesethey made neglect physical health. I've
done this before, right, Ithink I get down the rabbit hole of

(08:52):
focusing all the other tasks where I'vedone that. I think, yeah,
this year, I'm down thirty pounds, which is very exciting. But I'll
look at photos from like November likewhat the hell? But I think it's
because sometimes there's just so many platespinning you kind of forget, you know
what I mean. It's it's hardto to balance. They struggle a delegate.

(09:15):
I can be this way sometimes,Yeah, dude, say some intelligent
meend believe they can do everything themselvesbetter than anyone else. To me too,
it's just like I know, I'lldo it the way I want to
do it. I've gotten much betterat it. I think having folks i'm
lucky with. I have a greatteam, and that's a huge, huge

(09:37):
thing, you know. I thinkit goes back to, like I put
so much pressure on myself to havethis thing suceeed, especially the show,
because I feel like, man, there's so many people who are dependent on
the show, you know, likeif I crash this thing, that's gonna
affect livelihoods, you know what Imean. So like I'm very I you
know, took over the show andkind of extreme circumstances trying me a little

(10:01):
bit less white knuckling more relaxing, and here we are. Hope you have
a great fourth again. Tickets internshooncomedydot com. We'll see you next week.
