Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a Happy Wednesday friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower
intern John is my name. Weeks kind of flying by
at the same time, kind of going slow. I feel
like I started get allergies this week again. That just
sucks home. My computer's gonna fall. We're good, all right,
(00:22):
mainly because I also think I've been recovering still from
the wedding this past weekend, to where I am the
worst at unpacking after a trip. It just sits in
that suitcase and just sits there and sits there and
sits there. However, I will say it was brought up
(00:44):
a couple of weeks ago in the show how I
used to on trips, like if I wore clothes, just
throw all the clean clothes and dirty clothes together in
the suitcase and wash it all. And then I was
just kind of ripped apart by that ripped apart, but
people saying it was ishy, So now I've been trying
to separate. It was easier toward now, like I brought
at least the clothes that were in the suitcase that
(01:06):
are clean to the guest room, so at least we
got that.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Going for us. You know, we're taking.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Like uh strides that way, so to speak. We're making progress,
you know, we're we're evolving, as the kids say. But
still it kind of feels like a little bit of
it a little bit uh, a little bit drained. But
doing a lot of nap skis this week. Don't like
that said nap skis.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Hear what you know? What it is? What it is?
It is what it is. But I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Uh today after the show, getta go check out the
restaurant that I'm involved with because we're basically ready to go,
which is crazy. This has been a ten month process.
I mean, I guess like we first had the idea,
Buddy Chuck and I first talked about doing something together
(01:54):
years ago. It might have been like, well, for sure
it was during the pandemic. But now it's like, we're
finally here. It's cool to see, like seeing the inside
go from what it was the old restaurant to being
like completely gutted to now being basically ready to go.
It looks so freaking cool in the videos I've seen.
(02:14):
I've seen in person two obviously a couple of times,
but not for uh maybe two weeks. It's now getting
to go today. Actually see this bad boy and I
think the plan is hopefull. I can't say the opening date,
but it's coming. It's coming, and I cannot freaking wait
because then it's gonna be that starts. Hockey starts next week.
(02:37):
It's gonna be a wild couple months for me. And
I have this big project that I've been working on.
Man oh, I think I can announce that next week.
Some of that I've been working on for a long time,
been putting a lot of time and effort into that.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I know you're gonna love.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
And so first for me, it's something that thinks going
to change a lot of things in my life. I
think is potential to be a huge game changer. I
believe I can tell you what that is next week.
So very excited for that as well. Let me get
to this for your Wednesday. Somebody sent this to me,
The signs you're the funny person in your friend group.
(03:21):
Now listen, my entire life, dude, my entire life.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Am I've been the funny one? You know.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
It's just it's my burden, it's my cross, the bear.
As they say, it's tough, you know, but sometimes I
back it sore having to carry the conversation. Let's go
through these if you say what other people don't they say.
Sometimes it's the person who's brave enough to make a
joke during a serious moment, or say what's in everyone's
(03:55):
mind but no one's speaking aloud who ends up being
the funniest. You use humor, if use arguments in tense
situations like a pro I do think that's one of
my strong points, uh for sure, is to uh, when
something gets a little bit awkward, there gets to be tension.
I'm pretty good at finding that little like nugget that
(04:16):
can hopefully make everybody lower their swords, so to speak,
and that way that you know, conversation gets moving, we
get back to the fund zone. Nobody likes when it's
just all angry, intense. You need somebody to bring you
back down.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
That's me.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
If you have great comedic timing, well, well this this
whole podcast is me me uh patting myself in the back,
whether it's a well time punchline or what.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Do you reply your comic timing is top notch?
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, I mean that kind of goes hand and hamp
being the funny one, knowing when to read a situation,
you know, being sharp, being quick. I would say my
friend Shane very good at this, friend Ryan very good
at this, my friend and Andrew very good this as well.
Where it's like a natural like they can kind of
find like the the lull if you will, and then
(05:11):
drop down and get the comedy in there, almost like
a like a boxer landing a punch, if you will,
you know, know how duck, know how to dive, stick
him with the jab, hit him with the upper cut,
kind of like that. If you find hilarity in the mundane, Now,
that is truly a comedian type vibe right there. If
(05:34):
you can find the hilarity in the mundane, like the
stuff that, you know, the boring things, if you can
make that funny, I think that's the most comedians do
very well. I don't know if that's necessarily meet with
everything I try. If you're a meme collector, if you
manage to find the funniest memes to send to your friends,
(05:55):
that kind of vibe, I'm gonna be honest, I don't
know that necessarily makes you the anyone. Memes I think
are fairly easy, especially because that's somebody else's joke, you know,
so it's kind of like, eh, I don't know if
that necessarily applies if you're an excellent storyteller one hundred percent. Yeah,
because see, I captivate your audience, whether your audience is
(06:17):
you know, a couple thousand people on stage, or your
audience is your friend group. Knowing how to craft a
story so you maximize this punchline is one of your
best traits. You might even add some gestures and laughter
in the mix to take people over the edge.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah. I mean again, that is the essence of comedy.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
That is the essence of entertainment, and it's I think
it's a skill that you know, maybe you're born with
a little bit, but it's something you certainly have to
I think sharpen and make sure it's still sharp and
good to go, because nothing worse than somebody telling a
story and it's just boring, you know, just boring. If
(07:00):
you bring yourself down a good way, sometimes a bit
of self deprecating humor is all you need to make
everyone feel happier. You can poke fun of yourself, which
can encourage other people to do the same.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I think that also this shows too that you don't
take yourself too seriously, you know what I mean, And
there is a bit of that vibe of like, if
you make fun of yourself, you take away the power
for somebody else too. I do tend to believe that
it's the old eight Mile theory. You ever seen Eminem
in eight Mile towards the end of the movie, You know,
he does the last battle rap and he kind of
(07:33):
this is himself. He talks about all the other things
the other guy would say about him, and then what
do you do? You know he's used it already. He
can't use his weapon. Your laughter being contagious. When you
laugh at someone's joke or your own, your friends can't
keep it together. Your laughter is so unique and contagious.
I don't know if I have a great laugh.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I think my laugh when I'm being annoying makes me laugh. YEA, well,
I'm trying to get under somebody's skin. Like sauce. I
think that lab is funny and brings joy other people.
The party is boring until you arrive, they say, I
get together is only become fun when you enter the room.
You bring an aura of excitement and fun with you.
(08:14):
I think we all know who that person is. Yeah,
where it's like you look forward to when they show
up somewhere. You know you look forward to when they
arrive the function because you know it's gonna be a
good time. And I would even say you you gravitate
towards them.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
You know.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
It's like I want to be around the fun I
want to be around the party. If people turn to
you for commentary, when someone your friends circle expresses an
opinion or tells story, everyone looks at you, waiting for
you put your funny spin on it. I think that's
fair too, yeah, one hundred percent. Yeah, because they want
to get like your joke, Like they know you're gonna
(08:51):
say something funny. Maybe why the all time best signs though,
And this is so true. Your friends hide embarrassing stories
from you, Yes, because they're afraid if you catch them,
you'll turn it against them.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
One hundred dude. Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I feel like Eric doesn't tell me things all the
time because he knows, for one thing, I don't forget.
For two, I'll find a way you know what I mean,
I'll find a way again in there and explore the
situation a little bit, explore the comedy walls if you will.
For sure, last one, people expect you to be funny,
(09:31):
say one of the problems with being the funny one
in the group is that your friends had to come
to expect you to be hilarious all the time.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
So if you want to have a serious song with
them or share sad news you heard, you have through
a great lengths to convince me not playing around. I've
had that happen before. Yeah, I've had to be like, hey,
this is serious, and that is tough.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
He also be a burden too, gotta be funny all
the time. I mean again, I do it, and I'm
so humble about it, but other people, you know, golly.
I hope you have a great Wednesday. I appreciate you
listening to make sure you follow along to you at
