Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Friday. Friend. Welcome to the thought shower.
Intern John is my name? Huge weekend This weekend kind
of like a huge milestone. I guess you could say.
My debut comedy album is available for pre order, which
is very exciting and I need your help. I really do.

(00:21):
So nobody else knows this yet. You guys know this
the album. I'm gonna announce it on Monday. Very exciting.
It's gonna come out November first. However, pre order is
available now, and the pre order is very important because
if it gets a lot of pre orders, then debuts
hopefully number one on the charts when it does come out.

(00:42):
So Internsjohncomedy dot com. It should be up by Sunday
and is benefit the Fisher House. If you don't know
about Fisherhouse, they are an amazing organization. So years ago,
I had a friend who was in the Army. She
was stationed in San Antonio. She was diagnosed with cancer
while she was in basic training, and I flew down
to see her right away, and she is from Fairfax,

(01:05):
was don San Antonio, And I was remember thinking to myself, golly,
like her family. You know, her parents work really hard.
Don't necessarily have a lot of money. I'm like, how
they can be able to afford flights, hotel, food for
a year of chemo. And that's why I learned about
Fisher House. And they build houses on a military basis,
so when a military member is getting medical care, their

(01:29):
family is there with them healing. Because I mean, if
you know somebod the military, you know very selfless. I
know from my friend like as she had to worry
about her family paying for flights and hotels, it would
have stressed her out more and she wouldn't have focused
on herself, do you know what I mean. So they
offer the houses on these bases. They have the housing,
the food, the flights. But the reason we're doing this

(01:52):
now is because they also make sure Santa Claus comes
because you know, Santa is a busy guy, He's got
a lot going on. Fisher House makes sure Santa knows, hey,
we have little boys and girls staying here. And so
the money from the album is going to benefit Fisherhouse
to make sure Santon knows where to go. You know.
Rose and I had the chance to go to the

(02:12):
opening of the second Fisher House on the in the
Tampa location, and we learned that there's a woman there
who she had three kids under the age of I
want to say eight who were there, and they had
been there for about a year because I think dad
had an unfortunate accident in the Middle East and was
getting medical care, and you just kind of think to yourself, like,

(02:32):
there's no way this family would be able to survive
without the Fisher House, you know, how could she be
able to defeed three kids with their husband? And I commissioned.
So they're a great organization. We've raised over one hundred
thousand dollars so far, which is great. I'm excited for
this album. I'm excited too, just to you know, put
it out there. It's kind of it's been a crazy

(02:54):
ride and I'm gonna be nervous as hell when it
comes out. The gids chance to buy it. I believe
it's nine for an album. You can I get it.
Interns Geon Comedy starting on Sunday. The Beauty Is It's
the entire show this last tour, and there's bonus tracks
on there as well. There's bonus stuff from previous shows,
including My Dad the Professor Telling Comedy, and some of

(03:18):
the songs Internsoncomedy Dot com I cannot wait for you
to hear it, and hopefully if you're having a rough
time right now, hopefully can you know, spark a little
joy for you. And regardless, I appreciate you listening. If
you could even spread the word, that'd be great as well.
I want to get to this too, for your Friday
behaviors of people who aren't afraid to break the mold.

(03:39):
I I want to say that I'd like to think
I can be like this at times. I'd like to
think that I'm not afraid to break the mold. I
think now though, where I am it's a little bit
different in this stage of life. I think when I
first moved DC twelve years ago, I could take more

(04:00):
risks because it was really just you know, I was
responsible for me and myself. Now here we are with
the morning show, certainly that's my responsibility, with coaching, with
the restaurant, opening, with the podcast, and the comedy. Like
a little bit different now, gotta be a little more calculated.
But I do think this is good in general, starting

(04:20):
with through Okay, with being uncomfortable. Yes, they say for
most people, discomfort is something they avoid all costs. Those
who go against the crowd know the best growth happens
when you step outside of comfort zone. I will say
this that there is something to when everybody tells you
we've only done it this way for a long time.
If this is we can't do other ways, that's tends

(04:42):
to be rye thrive or I will tend to go
against the crowd. Now, don't get me wrong. I have
a group of folks that ask for advice, and it's
a small circle that I'll ask for advice and opinions.
But there's some plenty of times where I just trust
my gut. I think the comedy helped me with that.
You know, most comedians will by a joke, they'll try
it out in a club and then fix it over

(05:03):
a year before they go on tour. Me, I just
kind of trust my gut in that sense, and if
it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. But I
kind of like doing that, you know, just kind of
trust them out instincts. They ask why more than most people. Yeah,
they say, these folks don't just accept things as they are.
They constantly ask why is the way it is? Or

(05:24):
why can't we do things differently? I like that because
different doesn't mean bad. You have to evolve. You know,
I also think too, if there's a more mainstream way
of doing things, Like for me with the show, you know,
I get here early as hell. I get here like
at three point thirty because I want to get all

(05:44):
my stuff done so when the show is done, everybody
else can leave that everybody can go do their thing
and live their lives, because I don't like just waiting around.
I don't like wasting time. They trust their gut more
than they trust the crowd. I think that, not to
pay myself from the back again, but I think I'm
pretty good at this where like I don't know gut feeling,

(06:07):
I also think too, I'm blessed that you may actually
rephrase this like because to me, it's like I am
very confident in my judgment because of you guys. Because
if you listening to the podcasts and listening to the
show and following on Instagram at Internjohn Radio, which by
the way, if you can, if you're not following me,

(06:28):
please do at intern John Radio because I keep dropping
below sixty eight and it's sixty eight K and it's
driven me crazy. If you could, please, please please at
intern John Radio. I'd appreciate that. But I do think like,
because I feel like I know what you like that
that kind of gives me the power to not necessarily
trust the naysayers. I like that a lot. They don't

(06:48):
feel the need to fit in one hundred percent. They say, well,
most of us feel pressure to conform in some way.
People go against the grain, don't. Obviously they're comfortable being
different in standing out. Yeah, they so, whether it's career choices,
personal style, how they lead their life. I think, yeah,
I also too, will stand up for you know, what

(07:09):
I believe is right, which kind of ties into the
next one. They're not afraid to stand alone. My dad
always told me that he'd rather die on his feet
than live on his knees, and I think that's kind
of something along those lines that's kind of true where
it's like, yeah, you gotta nobody's gonna believe you right
away when you have an idea that you need to
have results, you know what I mean. And it's kind

(07:29):
of like a weird I don't know, full circle. Thing
for me recently is that I think I've always been
again confident in my ability, is confident in what I
thought was the right stuff, And now like it's kind
of coming to fruition. You know, we hit one hundred
k last year at the comedy show. The radio shows
rating has never been higher. The podcast one best podcast.

(07:51):
It's a little bit like that. But yeah, I think
that's huge. So is this though they see they see
failure as part of the process. It's funny. I speak
to schools a lot and I always get asked, like,
what's your biggest failure, And like, I don't know what
it is. I couldn't name my top five failures. And

(08:12):
that's not because I haven't made mistakes. I've made mistakes.
I think it's because I just keep going, do you
know what I mean? I just keep moving. It's like, Okay,
that didn't work, It's gonna keep going. It's like the
even something fails, the problem is still there, you know
what I mean, Like we still got to fix a solution.
So I yeah, I don't know. They say failure isn't

(08:34):
something to fear, it's something to learn from. I do think.
I'm not trying to sound like I don't make mistakes.
I do, obviously, and I failed a bunch, I'm sure,
And if I sat down really thought about it, I could.
But again, like if you don't learn from it, then
it's actually a failure. I think that's uh, that's fair. God,

(08:56):
there's so many of these let me see, uh do
do do they surround themselves of people who get it? Yes,
I'm very blessed with that too, They say, even though
they're comfortable being alone, people go against the crowd often
seek out like minded confidants. They build a circle of
friends and mentors who challenge norms. Think craively. You make
them see the world differently. One hundred percent. There's an

(09:16):
old saying your network is your net worth. I agree
with that one hundred and ten percent. It's going to
be around those types of folks who also get the vibe.
You know what I mean, try to do another one
real quick, and they value being real over being liked. Okay.
While many people chase approval from others, people who go

(09:39):
against the crowd care most about authenticity over popularity. I
also think, again, I try to begin with this, I
think that I'd rather be me because for one thing,
then there's like nobody can ever do a gotcha, Anya,
if you'd just been honest, and if I say the
same thing to you, I'll say to this person, that
person whatever I do think when you try to appease

(10:03):
somebody and like not be a thank to yourself, they
don't like you. They're disliking you because you like what
they like and you don't even like it. That makes
sense anyway. I hope you have a great weekend. If
you get a chance, please by Sunday the album will
be up internsgoncomedy dot com. You know the more pre
sales will have, the better, So please if you know

(10:24):
somebody's gone the show, please please please pass along. Trying
to raise money for the Fisherouse, an amazing, amazing cause.
I'll see on Monday.
