Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Monday friend. Welcome to you the Thought
Shower intern. John is my name. It was quite the weekend.
Let's get into this. So kind of last minute. Last
week I booked a trip to the woods in West
Virginia for my dog Skittles and I to go and
just kind of get away. If you don't know, the
woods my place to kind of recharge, reset, relax. Sorry

(00:26):
going there maybe I don't even know, seven eight years
ago maybe something like that. Yeah, because because of hockey
eight years ago, and would go just to kind of
get away from the world and usually would go and
write the comedy tour is there and I would always
try to stay at the same cabin for each tour.

(00:50):
I don't quite know why. I think it's because maybe
it felt familiar. I knew what was there and could
kind of go from from there. And then this is
the first time I had a chance to go and
like there was no work to be done, like there
was no tour to write, there was no nothing. It
was just like to go and not do anything, which

(01:12):
I needed. So, uh Friday, pulling of town and there
was traffic because two seventies got constructions that sucked. Got
my food and rations of the week. Then my next
stop is always Dairy Queen. Chocolate dip cone, vanilla ice
cream certainly, but dipped in chocolate. There's just something about it.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't understand how they do it.

(01:33):
It doesn't make sense that Dairy Queen. They can, you know,
put the ice cream on the cone, tip it over
and it still works. But we're here, you know what
I mean. I'm a big ice cream cake guy. So
having the having Dairy Queen was kind of like my vibe.
So Friday made dinner, which is always kind of a
fun teasing a full on man meat a weekend. Basically
this kind of steak, hot dogs and sausage. It's kind

(01:56):
of the a vibe. So did that always get a
place with the hot tub? I think that's important. So
I got hot tub set my iPads. I could watch
Summer Slam the wrestling pay per view I guess not
a pay per viewing or it's a streaming thing. And
then so the main reason too went is because Skittl'
has been locked inside basically for two weeks it has
been so hot, so he finally had a chance to
run around and that boy was excited. It was also,

(02:20):
you know, a bit emotional. It was our first time
going there without Chewy and he had been to that cabin.
That cabin was the one I wrote the from scratch
who We're at, so he had been there before, so
it was a little bit odd to see the places
he was. But the benefit is I found some video

(02:41):
of that last trip we took. It was last July
or last June maybe, and just him running around being
happy was very sweet to see. So it was a
very I don't want to say bittersweet, because we had
good memories there, you know what I mean, And so
that was very very nice. Then on Saturday, went to

(03:04):
it like a toy store downtown that always go to,
got stuff for Hoodie, got more ice cream. Very exciting
and basis, it's kind of like a cycle of sleeping,
having cigars, hot tub, and throwing the ball for skittles,
which is what I needed. I'm not good at turning
off my brain. I know that seems ironic, giving stuff

(03:25):
I stay on the show, but I'm not good about
just being still. So this weekend I kind of did that.
I will say my brain does feel relaxed. That makes sense,
It does feel more ready to go. I think hopefully.
I don't know, it feels that way. And this week

(03:46):
is birthday week, which is exciting. So my birthday is
on Wednesday. This coming Saturday at my bar, a hide Social,
we're doing the birthday party. So if you're in town,
you want to come, come say hi. It's gonna be
a lot of fun and then kind of it and
hopefully like after this weekend, another chance to go away
and relax. I think I need to do that a
lot more because it's been kind of go go go

(04:08):
and vain. Come fall. When hockey starts, it's gonna be
go go, go, go, go go go. So yeah, we're
doing it. Man, hope you have a great Monday. I
want to get to this. If the sign someone's incapable
of being happy, I do think we know people who
do this where it's like they just know they'll never

(04:29):
be happy. There's always gonna be something, and that is tough, man,
that's tough. I feel like some folks don't do it
intentionally too, it just kind of is what it is.
If they constantly focus on the negative. They say, some
people have a knack for finding the cloud in every
silver lining. They have head first in negativity, unable to
appreciate positive aspects of life. I think that's true. And

(04:53):
you know I talked about this before a lot. There's
this guy, Jay Shetty who's like, a he's a positivity.
I'm gonna be asked. I only know what he does,
but I saw a clip of him saying that he
makes an effort when he wakes up in the morning
to not say he's tired, but to say today he'll
find time to rest. And how just phrasing something in
a positive can change your mindset. And I have realized

(05:16):
that has made my days at least feel better and
stead way get like I'm so tired, it's like all right,
today I'll find time to rest and making it more
of a positive vibe. They avoid emotional vulnerability. They said
a fear of opening up emotionally can be significant buried happiness.
People who avoid vulnerability often do so at a fear

(05:36):
of rejection or a judgment. I would say, the reason
really why this prevents E from being happy is that
if you're not being vulnerable emotionally, you're not getting close
to people. You know what I mean? Like I have
an amazing group of friends, and I would like to
think it's because number one, I'm a good person, but
two I've been emotionally open with them about certain things,

(05:59):
whether it's family, friends, relationships. So we kind of have
that closeness, you know what I mean, and goes both
ways and that way, I feel like like they know
when I need them and vice versa. They always compare
themselves to others. Yeah, in a world driven by social media,
it's easy to fall in the traffic comparison. People who

(06:19):
constantly measure their worth against others feel inadequate and satisfied
with their own lives. I would also say, and to
the social media point, it's crazy how we view social
media where we assume that everybody's telling the truth, even
though we don't do it ourselves right, Like we post
the positives only, and then we kind of compare ourselves

(06:41):
against others like, oh my gosh, I know Tiffany is
just her life's perfect. It's like, you know, she's probably
not posting the bad stuff, you know what I mean.
I think it's also funny when we talk about like
if somebody likes our stuff, how like we look at like,
oh my gosh, they took the time out what I
posted really moved them. And then it's like for a
thousand dollars, I couldn't tell you five things I liked yesterday,

(07:03):
you know what I mean. It's like people just aren't
that invested, you know. They chase perfectionism, not happiness. This
is crazy, they say. Perfectionism could be a significant bayery
to happiness, as the pursuit of flawless is often unattainable.
I used to be more like this and that I
think comedy kind of changed it a little bit. And

(07:26):
even coaching too, I say this to my kids all
the time, like fellas, the today's game is not gonna
be perfect. It's not and if we have the perfect game,
we should honestly quit. We should quit. If we have
a perfect game today, we should quit because we won't
have it tomorrow, like as a one in a billion chance.

(07:47):
And that's why too, I think, you know, with Stanton comedy,
like you always want to come back because it's not perfect,
like one more thing could have been right. I got
lucky that these last shows that we did really to me,
we're perfect, and so like that that itch I have
to get back out there into I don't know to

(08:08):
do it. Again, certainly I enjoy it, but it doesn't
feel like I have something to fix. Like I feel
like there's a there's like a bunch of shows where
it's like, okay, that kind being better because of this,
YadA YadA, and now it's like, no, we're good. I
do think that's true. But sometimes it's just you don't

(08:30):
need to be perfect, you know, you don't be just
be happy. I think that's a hundred percent fair. There's
so many of these may have do Part two on Wednesday,
their fear of failure keeps them up at night. I
have this. I mean, I've said before I have no
problem saying that my biggest fear is failure. That drives

(08:51):
me a lot, and it's kind of multi layered. I
think with my career wise, I've been blessed to work
with the best. Dave Ryan in Minneapolis is an absolute legend.
Was blessed work a day for four years, Greg Chance
and Des moines Man gave me my my other chance.
Blessed beyond malit's work with him like he is amazing.

(09:12):
Then being out here in DC working with Caine and
working with you know, David Brody and and a bunch
of our consultants and and uh, you know, advisors. It's
like I've always said, like I don't have an excuse
to fail, like that's to me. If I don't make it,
that's not good. And now too with there's a lot
of lives that depend on me to be successful, Like

(09:34):
everybody's livelihood on the show is tied to me. So
that kind of pressure keeps me up. But I do
think that it's not like it's crippling fear, like I
guess sit in the fear and do nothing. It's like, no,
that's why I'm here at three point thirty. That's why
we always do work for the show. I think that
that's kind of overall, but overall, listen, choose happy, or

(09:57):
at least put yourself in a spot to be happy.
I realized that, you know, saying that chose happy sounds
kind of okay, things happen fair, But I think put
yourself as spot to be happy. You deserve it. It'll
be a fantastic Monday. Thank you for listening. Sploshower
