Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Friday. Friend.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome to the Thought Shower interns. John is my name,
appreciates you listening on this Friday. I'm gonna be honest.
Kind of a miracle made it in today. Last night
was supposed to be a nice chill night. My good
friend and business partner Chuck hit me up. It's like, Hey,
I'm going to this rooftop opening in DC. Do you
want to come check it out? I was like, okay,

(00:23):
you know, because now, like with the bar, I like
going to different places to see what they're doing, how
we could do things differently and just kind of you know,
see ideas whatever. And I was like, how long you
stay in? He said, well, we're gonna get there at
six thirty. My plans to be leaving for my house
at nine. I go, okay, that's not too bad, like
for a Thursday night, not bad. Get to the spot.

(00:45):
It's a rooftop spot. And ran to our friend Pete
who runs Echo Stage, one of the coolest, nicest guys
in the business. A lot of fun hanging out. Then
it just kind of snowballed in a good way where
then it's like, oh, a Doug camera from NBC Force
coming out awesome love Doug, great guy, that's great. And
then our good friend Tony P was in the neighborhood
came out, and so it's one of those nights where

(01:06):
it was it's snowballed in the best kind of way,
if that makes sense, where it was just good times,
good hanging out. Went from uh Cassamara rooftop to Hyde
which is a lot of fun as well, and then
just kind of celebrating because Chuck's birthday is the day
before mine. Mine was Wednesday, so Chucks was Tuesday, so
chance to kind of celebrate. I didn't get home until

(01:29):
probably like eleven thirty, which is not great, but I've
always made it kind of like a I guess a
roof myself, like I still have to get up around
the same time. Like if I stay out, that's fine,
but the latest we can sleep in is three thirty.
So my alarm always goes off at two forty ish. Today,
by the way, I woke up at two forty three, naturally,

(01:50):
and then I was like, wonder, what though the extra
forty five minutes, let's do it? Did it feel good
surviving for now? But it's gonna be one of those
days where it's just little Lucy Goosey after the show,
very excited, going golfing my good friend DJ rise And
who was also there last night, and so there's that.
This weekend's gonna be a lot of fun. So doing

(02:11):
my birthday at the restaurant, Hide Social. If you're in
the area, come out and say hi. I am not
the best at I'm good at planning events as far
as like getting the x's nose lined up, I'm not
necessarily the best at like inviting people and making sure
they're all in the loop. I kind of tend to
go with like hopefully people just listened to the show

(02:34):
or see on social media and then they know because
I was talking to folks yesterday like how many people
you think are coming on Saturday. I'm gonna be honest,
I have no idea for a million dollars. I could
not tell you within ten people how many are coming.
Give you a nice time, given me a fun time,
just to kind of like again, relax and it's kind
of crazy. Summer is almost over, which is wild, wild,

(02:57):
So this weekend doing that. Also, my ants are in town.
Very exciting. Didn't know that was gonna happen. Nice little surprise.
I guess, nice little birthday surprise. So they get a
chance to see the restaurant, which is very cool and
just kind of be around, which gonna be a lot
of fun. So very excited this weekend if you get

(03:17):
a chance to come out, be a lot of fun,
hide social and Clarendon, let me get to this fear
Friday as well, the unhealthy beliefs people cling to you
out of fear. I think I've gotten better at this.
We talked about this a little bit. I must always
be productive. I've had that problem for the longest time,
whether it's the show or just life. Like with the

(03:39):
show especially, it's like we always should be recording something,
Like we shouldn't wait around, we should always record something.
Even this past weekend when I went to the woods
in West Virginia, it was like, Okay, John, We're going
to the woods.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
There is.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
No tour to write, there is no you know, promotion
stuff to get done just for And that was a
little bit of like a waking up and like, oh, Okay,
I can just go back to sleep if I want,
or I can just go in the hot tub or
just kind of do nothing. They say, the pressure to
be constantly productive can be overwhelming. It's easy to fall

(04:15):
in the trap. I feel like every moment your day
needs to be filled with tasks into dos. I've gotten
better at that. I think you should to relax. Man,
take a breath. It's okay.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
You know. Failure is not an option. I don't know.
I kind of have that though they say failure.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Fear of failure is a powerful deterrent that prevents many
people from pursuing their goals. That believe that failure is
unacceptable can be paralyzing. I use it for a positive,
but I understand what they're saying where it's like, you're
so afraid of failing you don't even try said thing.
I do believe that as long as you're constantly trying stuff,

(04:51):
people don't really remember the failures. I mentioned this before.
I've had folks ask like, what my biggest failure is.
I've had a bazillion. I just don't remember them.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
You know what I mean? Because he Kinane's well on it.
And it's funny.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I was talking to somebody about like comedy and doing
stand up and like, what happens if a joke doesn't
you know, laugh, Like people don't laugh at it. I
just said, well, if I tell a joke and people
don't laugh, I just keep going like this goes next shoke,
and the best part is nobody in the crowd but oh,
that joke didn't hit, You know what I mean, as

(05:23):
long as you kind of keep moving, nobody in the
crowd is really aware of what's going on. Nobody in
the crowd knows that joke didn't hit. As long as
you keep moving and keep going to the next one,
they just assume that's kind of part of part of
the show. And I think that's a huge thing. Like
if something doesn't work out, it's okay. All it takes
is one great idea. You know, Steve Jobs was fired
from Apple at one point, which is crazy crazy. I

(05:47):
can't ask for help, huge one. Many people believe asking
for helps to sign a weakness, but can be further
from the truth. Reaching out for support to sign of
strength and self awareness. We're talking about this the other
day in the show. For me, it's like if I
know somebody isn't good at something and they just say, hey,
like can you help do this? I guess one thing
maybe I'm good at is like marketing stuff. Perhaps if

(06:09):
they're like, hey, I'm not good at this, would you
mind helping. I don't see that them being weak. I
see that as them being self aware, you know what
I mean, Like I'm not the best at organization stuff
that's not really my thing, don't really care for it,
don't really want to do it. So if I ask
somebody like, hey, like, can you do the little X, Y,
Z and z?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
For me?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
To me, it's not weakness. That's like I know I'm
not good at that, so let's give it somebody who
is good at that. No issues there, I need to
be perfect. They say perfectionism can be crippling belief that
hinders progress and satisfaction. The fear of not being perfect
in lead to procrastination and self criticism. I also think too,
it's just like people aren't watching us as much as

(06:53):
we think they are. That's a huge thing. It's also like,
you know, if you see somebody being silly at the
mall or in public, you don't remember that, Or somebody
like who had a bad outfit them all, I don't
remember that.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Ever.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I think we're all so kind of focused on ourselves
that the outside world isn't really paying attention and honestly,
that's not a bad thing. That's okay, my past defines
my future. They say the belief that your past defines
your future canna be significant obstacle for personal growth. While
your experience of shape you are, they don't dictate who

(07:26):
you can become one thousand percent. It kind of goes
back to the failure thing. It really does. It can
always change. Also, people have short attention spans short, short, short,
really short. I would say that when the the who
I was when I started and radio versus now two
completely different people. Like before, I was kind of goofing

(07:48):
around when I was a kid, I was seventeen, but
now it's like, okay, we got things going. The last
one I'll hit and I think this one might be
one of the most important ones.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
I have to do it all.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Believing you have to do it all can be overwhelming
and exhausting. The mindset often results from the fear of
letting others down or appearing incapable. I also think for
me personally, it's more so of like fear of things
not being done the right way. But that also is
in my own head right because my right way might
not be as good as somebody else's right way, But

(08:23):
as long as it works out in the end, that's
really all that matters.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I think.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
With the comedy tour especially, that was always like, you know,
part of the reason why I started to scale it
back was because I was doing everything booking the shows,
talking to the venues, booking the travel, which include hotel, airfare,
merch logistics, all that stuff. Where it's like, as I
started to kind of get towards like the last like

(08:48):
full on, full on tour, I got burned out and
it wasn't like I enjoyed the actual shows, like the
hour on stage and the other two hours doing the
meet and greet.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
That was amazing, But as far as like getting to
the venue four hours beforehand to set the merch on
that stuff, that wasn't really it. So as like you know,
Hoodie fantastic help obviously what he did the merch for
several years, Savera this past year doing that kind of
stuff was like okay, yeah, Like also, I feel like
we sometimes underestimate how much people in our orbit want

(09:20):
to help, if that makes sense. Like, if you're a
good person who never asked for help, I think you'd
be surprised at how much people are willing to help
you if you ask for it. You know everybody wants
the best for you. Look, I hope you have a
fantastic weekend. If you happen to come out to Hide
this weekend, make sure to say hello. We'll be there
ond like nine thirty ish on Saturday. It's gonna be

(09:42):
a fun little birthday celebration. Get me on the Instagram
