Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, friend, Welcome to the thought Shower. It has
been quite the forty eight hours in my life. Where
to begin? So I mentioned this a little bit on
the show. But Wednesday, I wake up gotgnification on my
phone that the Chewy album is out and ready to go,
and I was like, well, that's interesting because it's supposed

(00:23):
to be out Thursday, but here we are Wednesday, and
so I was not really panicked, but I was like, Okay,
you know, it is what it is. Can't unrelease the
album now, Let's just kind of roll with it. It
really shouldn't make a difference for anything, you know, It's
not like yeah, Like at this point, I had done

(00:44):
the work. I had done every TV network basically in
the area, had posted a bunch of videos, had talked
about in the show, Like, it really shouldn't make a difference.
So I get to the station and I'm like, all right,
let's check to see where the album is on the charts,
because the goals obviously for me good number one. That's

(01:05):
more visibility, that's more money raised, and especially too, because
it's for Chewy. I wanted to get it for him.
And I open up the album charts and it's not
in the top ten. I go, that's weird. Didn't see
that coming. And I scroll and I scroll and I

(01:26):
scroll and I see the albums that like two hundred overall,
and I go, oh, And I can't really explain that feeling.
I guess it'd be like if you felt like you
studied perfectly for a test then got an F, but
not just an F, like you got the worst possible
F you can get, like a zero out of one hundred.

(01:47):
That was kind of the feeling. It was like, how
did I like, did I misread everything? Did I misread
people's interest levels? I misread the feedback I was getting,
the data I was getting? Did I misread everything? And
it was a very low feeling. I remember saying the sauce.

(02:11):
I was like, maybe, like the audience doesn't you know
f of me anymore? You know what I mean? Like
maybe like I dropped off, and you know that that
eventually happens everybody, but I was just kind of surprised.
I was like, I didn't quite see it coming. And
I would refresh it basically every single hour, so you know,

(02:32):
three I could hear three thirty, so four am, five am,
six am, seven am, eight am, nine am, ten am.
I kept refreshing like damn, dude, like all right, you know,
and uh, I felt like a failure. Fel like I
let down myself, let down the show, let down the listener,
let down the charity, let down Chewy. It just kind

(02:52):
of felt like damn, like I don't know, But there
was also bit of like a feeling of at least
I know I couldn't have done anything more because I
was trying to find a reason to blame myself and
I was like, no, there's not really much more you
could have done. And then I get home and I
had like a I had to go somewhere Wednesday. I

(03:14):
don't even remember. I don't even remember now because there's
so much going on. How aldout do you on Wednesday?
It's gonna bother me. Now. Oh, I had like a
work like happy hour thing and that had TV. That's
what it was. And so it's like eleven o'clock I refresh.

(03:37):
And when the cool thing is when you go to
the iTunes sharts. It has every category, so you know,
a country, top forty, hip hop, and it puts them
on the list and then whatever album's number one, they
make a little icon. I noticed a little icon was
the Chewy cover, and I was instantly like, I think guy,
I went. I audibly gasped, and then when I opened

(04:01):
the chart to see for sure, I fell on my
knees started crying in my bedroom. It was just so
overcome an emotion to go from feeling like you failed,
like I had texted my mom that morning, like hey,
I think it flopped. I think the album flopped. And yeah,
to go from that to go to being number one,

(04:24):
you know, I'm not even quite too sure how I
put that in words. And I was saying this to friends.
As far as the emotions with Chewy, It's like, imagine
loving something so much and then that thing is gone,
But then you see how much, like a million other

(04:46):
people loved that thing the same amount you did. It
was your thing. It's a really cool feeling. And so
then yesterday during the show, I was just emailing our
imaging director Darren, who's a brilliant, brilliant man, and I
was like, hey, man, like you, thanks for the help. Yeah,
he goes, hey, do you know you have two albums

(05:09):
in the top twenty right now? And I go, excuse me?
And I realized while the Chewy album was number one,
my album from last year, and turned on the album
was in the top twenty, and again I was like,
oh my god, what huh? And then I think it
was Sauce who said, do you like what if you

(05:32):
get the number one and number two album in the country,
And it kind of hit me and I said it
off the cuff on the air, And this is like
eight forty, so like the show is, you know, kind
of almost done, and then we're kind of joking, oh yeah,
ye'd be kind of silly, be kind of interesting if
I could do that. And then yesterday I'm getting to

(05:53):
a work meeting, pull on my phone. Sure enough, I
have the number one and number two album in the world,
and the emotions just kind of ran back in, and
that is I can't quite explain the feeling. I mentioned
this on the air too. It's like this industry in particular,
it's not one where you constantly get praise internally, it's

(06:17):
just not It can be very lonely, it can be
very demoralizing, it can kick the absolute ish out of you.
So for me, it's always been the feedback from the audience,
from you from senior shows or senior in person or
just I guess some of my nice dms recently that
that is where it's like, Okay, you know this, this

(06:37):
makes it, this makes it good, this makes it worth it.
And so here I sit on this Friday was still
the number one and number two comedy albums in the world.
And I said this in a work meeting yesterday. I
was like, you know, this is not because of me.

(06:59):
This is not because I'm the greatest comedian of all time.
That's not why this is happening. I'm not ahead of
John mulaney and Nate Bargatsi on the charts because I'm hilarious.
It's because the listeners like. It's because our listeners care
so much and follow the show and we'll do you know,

(07:22):
follow us to the end of the earth. That's why
I'm able to do this. So I just want to
say thank you. It's been a crazy year for me
career wise. I mean, winning you know, Baltimore's Radio Host
of the Year, Podcast of the Year, DJ of the Year,
to having uh win the Hockey, win the Championship, now

(07:42):
having number one, number number two comedy album. I'm very
grateful And if you get a chance to listen this weekend.
I appreciate helping out the Warrior Canine Connection Internshoncomedy dot Com.
That's Internsjohncomedy dot Com from one great full Minnesota boy,
