next week on June sixth. We'llbe giving away tickets for that. Next
week, in fact, will bejoined by the star Stokely Williams. Our
three of tonight's show will be sponsoredby Lamarada Theater. Disney's A Little Mermaid
(01:08):
is coming to Lamarada Theater. Actuallyit should be starting at about fifteen minutes
at Lamarada Theater opening night, andwe'll have tickets for that, not tonight
but next week. And we'll alsobe joined on the show by Leanna Weaver
who plays Ariel. And also nextweek, oh my goodness, I tell
(01:30):
you, we'll be joined by actressTamlin Tamita. You may remember her from
The Karate Kid Too. You mayremember her from the Joy Luck Club.
You may remember her from the DayAfter Tomorrow and Cobra Kai. Well,
she's gonna be joining us because sheis the star of Ultraman Rising, which
is coming to Netflix. That's all. That's all next week. I'm just
(01:53):
trying to let you know in advanceso you're not caught off card, so
you're not surprised, because if you'relistening now, you have the inside track
for all the people out there said, I don't know about that mo Kelly.
I don't know if I could listento him, I don't know.
He rubs me the wrong way.You just say mm hmm and go on
(02:13):
about your way and go win yourtickets, get your t shirt, get
your free rental movie codes, becausethis is our this is our thing.
Good evening, Mark Ronner, howare you doing, brother? I'm doing
well. That mo Kelly a littlesketchy, but maybe some free stuff,
so I'm in. You know, however it works. And on the ones
(02:35):
and tuesdanight, we'll be Robin.I'll say little Robin, because there are
two Robins here, and you haveto be very clear, and I said,
well, Robinson, we have toIt's like, which point are you
talking about Robin who's the technical director, or Robin bern Luchi, the program
director. We're talking about the technicaldirector who is flying the plane tonight,
Little Robin. It's radio center. But Stephan is still here. He he's
(03:00):
like he's usually piloting the plane, but tonight he's sitting back and coach with
us. And the plane goes down. It's because Robin messed up somewhere,
not Stepan. And also we gotproducer Kianna in the studio. Producer Kianna,
what are we eating tonight? BecauseFriday is food day. Pizza,
(03:23):
we're having pizza. Oh okay, you're having pizza and that means I'm buying
pizza. Tuala, What pizza arewe getting? Well, I mean I've
already purchased. The pizza's coming, gets in route. It should be here,
like I don't know, thirty minutes. All right, then that's how
we do it. We're good.Later on tonight we have to tell you
about, well, you know, another day, another metro story. We
(03:44):
have to tell you about that attemptedattack on a metro bus driver. And
thank goodness. The metro bus driverjust simply didn't open the door. No,
you're asked, cannot get on thisbus because I'm not trying to fight
you today. And here's the thing. They called the police. Well,
they told the metro bus driver thatthey had called the police. An LAPD
never responded. We have that storyfor you. You might have heard by
(04:06):
now. JL. Well, she'shaving an up and down, an up
and down year. I'm not talkingabout her personal family issues or marital issues,
although that might be part of theequation. Jlo just announced that she'd
canceled her summer tour. I didn'tknow that she even was doing music anymore.
I really did not know that.I thought she was all the way
(04:28):
in regarding movies and television. Hejust had her Netflix movie which just dropped.
Mark hated it. I didn't thinkit was too bad. I thought
it was fine and twilet did yousee it? Nah? No yet?
Yeah. I think if I wereher, I wouldn't want to show my
face for a while after that movie. Yeah. Have you ever heard any
of her music? None that Icould quote you. Okay, Well,
(04:49):
we'll talk about that. And Ithink that's part of the reason why maybe
ticket sales were not as as strongas somewhat hope, because when you canceled
a whole tour, ooh, alot of people took a bath on that.
You can't when you cancel those dates, when you have those arenas,
these large arenas, you have topay a certain money amount of money if
(05:11):
you cancel. I can tell youthat why, because the arena has saved
that date, and that means thatarena, that venue cannot make money.
Let's say it's gonna be Moe KellyLive in Concert on December twenty fifth,
and then I decided to cancel inOctober. It's like, wait a minute,
we held this day for you.Now we can't do anything. It's
a dead night. We don't haveto. We have to. We can't
(05:32):
find anyone else to occupy the nightand make money. So you have to
pass. I don't know a percentageof there's probably a non refundable portion of
it, but we'll get into thata little bit later on. And Disney
performers, we talked to you aboutthat. Well, their vote to unionize
has been certified by federal labor officials. This got so much. And Mark
Ronald, we know he has theModern Report, and there is a world
(05:55):
premiere of the Runner intro. Andif he hates it, it's too to
the bad. He's gonna be stuckwith it forever more. Ever, I'm
nervous yet excited. I'm so excitedbecause no one knows what it is like.
Literally, no one. You haven'tlistened to it. I haven't heard
it. And then to Walla saidhe hasn't heard it. He hasn't heard
it, and you haven't heard it, right, Mom, No, No
I haven't heard it. I justknew. Eric Lesardo, who did the
(06:16):
intro for uh named that movie calledClassic the part for the intro and he
did did he do sould? Andhe did Amy's on it for wake Up
of wake Up Call Yeah, andNick's and Nick Yes, Yeah. This
is the artist who managed to finda way to rhyme with Well. He's
(06:40):
gonna add one more to his repertoire, his library of contributions to later with
mo Kelly, Eric Lesardo, hehas a FOURK report one too. That's
right. Yes, he should bejust our you know, our resident in
house musician for all things KFI.He's brilliant, he's fantastic of what he
does, and he has another babythat he's going to birth to the world
(07:02):
tonight. Yeah. It could becute, it could be ugly. We
don't know. We haven't seen thebaby yet, but that's going to be
at eight thirty four pm when MarkRonner delivers anoral part. It's a good
thing. Pressure doesn't bother me.Well, it's not you. It's not
(07:23):
your pressure. No, true, this is exciting. You sound so exciting.
That's my range right there. That'swhy I didn't go into acting.
Wow, Well how about this,Mark, We need a word from you.
Oh, let me preface this, because there's no rain on the horizon,
(07:45):
but there's a heat wave coming ourway, it seems. Yeah,
that's exactly right. Starting I thinknext week it's supposed to be maybe ten
to fifteen degrees above normal until midJune. Can you handle that? Mo
I? Hope I can. Infact, I love the warmer weather for
me, and we can go aroundthe room on this. I believe the
first week of summer in my mind, is always the week right after Memorial
(08:07):
Day, as in right now.I know summer doesn't officially start until June
twentieth, almost a month away, but as far as I'm concerned, we're
in summer. Be damn what acalendar says? What's the rule on wearing
shorts to the office? Can wedo that? Let's ask Stephan because he
wears nothing but shorts. Yeah, that's right, that's ever. Now.
I will start wearing shorts, butit probably won't be until July to the
(08:28):
office. Well, most of usfollow your lead on the crew, but
Stephan marches to his own. Yeah, what I mean, it's it's every
single thing. It'll be on Christmas, it'll be raining. Yeah. No,
Actually, she's not wrong. Iyeah. Do you ever get cold?
That? See, that's the thingI don't This is not a difficult
(08:50):
question. No, no, no, no, it's a no no,
it's a no. But it's likeI'll wear I'll wear layers on top,
but I'll always have shorts on.So you have shorts and a parka?
Yeah, pretty much. Wow,it's a lot. It's Later with Kelly.
I don't like that. Who amI to Judge? Weird with Judge?
I won't do that. KIM sixforty We live everywherey iHeartRadio app.
(09:11):
You're listening to Later with Mo Kellyon demand from KFI AM six forty.
KIM six forty is later with MoKelly on this Friday, We're Live Everywhere
on the iHeartRadio app and another LaMetro bus driver was threatened, attacked if
you will, had some beer pouredon her and last week or may have
(09:35):
been the beginning of this week,I said, bus drivers and train operators
they have to have an affirmative conversationwith themselves every single morning and realize that
may be the day where they goingto get in a fight or two or
four with someone on their bus ortrain. They're going to have an incident.
(09:58):
They have to mentally prep pair themselvesfor that when honestly, that's not
part of the job. It shouldnot be a daily occurrence where they have
to consider, hmm, someone maytry to assault me this time. It's
clear that this bus operator and theyoung woman, clearly she was ready and
(10:20):
prepared. She was aware of everythinggoing on around her and made the conscious
decision to not let an idiot geton the bus and thereby relinquished control of
the situation. But what's worse isshe called it in her superior said that's
(10:41):
okay, we're sending LAPD and accordingto her, they never even showed up
a Metro bus driver says a manwanted to board her bus and she didn't
open the doors because they weren't ata bus stop. He didn't take no
for an answer. He became aggressive. He stood in front of the bus.
He didn't let me proceed. Hethen proceeds to throw beer on my
(11:05):
windshield and proceeds to come to myleft side, where my window is at.
The driver, who didn't want touse her name or face, says
the man opened her window, pouredbeer on her seat, and continue to
make a scene outside the bus.Meanwhile, the driver was waiting towards the
back of the bus with about twentypassengers. After having called her supervisor.
(11:28):
He's like, don't worry, ELIPDis on their way. Just hold the
bus there. Nearly an hour later, she says her Metro supervisor arrived without
police. He's like, oh yeah, I got a message saying that they
have other priorities. I'm like,so, my life is not a priority.
The life of these people is nota priority. The driver tells us
(11:52):
she's sharing the video reflecting some ofwhat she and her colleagues deal with every
day. When we see each other, we hug each other and We're like,
God, bless you. You know, I hope you make it safe
today, you make it work backhome safe, because we know that there's
every day we're dealing with these typeof crazy people. Every day we're dealing
with this type of crazy people. They affirmatively had the discussion with themselves and
(12:20):
their colleagues that they're probably going tohave to deal with some crazy people and
be put in harm's way every daywere dealing with these type of crazy people.
I want to see action, notjust words. I want to see
action. I want to feel safedriving a bus, and I want all
my coworkers to feel safe as well. If you notice, she said that
(12:43):
she did not want her face shown. This was a television report. She
did not give her name. Itsounds to me there's a complaint coming.
It sounds to me she has issueswith her employer. She sat and waited
for an hour and LAPD. I'mnot blaming LAPD. As far as I
(13:03):
know, Metro didn't even pass onthe request. It probably made a call,
made the decision, Okay, sheis physically not in danger, so
we're not going to bring in thepolice. That's what I think probably happened.
Well, she only had some beerpoured on her from the operator side
(13:24):
window. They didn't actually get onthe bus and stab her, So it's
not that big a deal. Butit's going to happen again. And this
is why I said, hey,you have to have some sort of figure,
like you know what you get ona plane. They have the air
marshals. You may not know whothey are, but you know that they're
there. That's what probably needs tohappen here. If you're not going to
(13:46):
have someone on each bus and theysay they can't do that, well,
there has to be some system inplace where there's at least a rapid response
when there is an issue. Youhave a bus driver who clearly is getting
attacked and if not for the door, she would have been physically attacked because
(14:09):
I guess the person will not takeno for an answer. And you know
who came to help her out,Absolutely nobody except someone from Metro an hour
later, and the police did notshow up. That says to me there's
a failure. There is a failurein this system. If you can't protect
(14:30):
passengers, that's a problem. Ifyou can't protect operators and employees, that's
a problem. If you can't protectanybody, then what are we talking about?
What are we doing? It doesn'tmake sense to have this motion put
forward where you're gonna increase the surgeprotection of law enforcement officials, officers.
They're gonna be on buses, they'regonna be on trains, they're gonna be
(14:52):
on platforms, and then when abus operator calls for you, nobody shows
up. They had other priorities, they had higher priorities. Did they go
to a stabbing instead of that?Is that why they were called away?
Or or are they saying that theyare not enough officers to facilitate any level
(15:16):
of safety. I'm not expecting lawenforcement to be in two places at once.
But Metro clearly has a problem thatis not being addressed. We're all
aware of it. We've had LaCounty Supervisor meetings, We've had Metro Board
of Director meetings, We've had allthese discussions on radio and television, but
(15:39):
we're not getting to the heart ofthe issue. You had a young lady
who's a bus operator, clearly intelligent, clearly aware of the danger because she
says that she talks to her fellowcolleagues and they give each other a hug
each day. They pray for oneanother because they knew that they were dealing
with crazy people every single day, every sin day, and since she was
(16:03):
proactive and aware of her surroundings.Like I say all the time, the
first requirement of safety is to beaware of your surroundings. She was aware
that this person was not in hisright mind. So I'm not going to
open up the doors. Yes,I'm not at a bus stop, but
you've seen bus drivers. They're onoccasion they will open up the doors even
though they're not at the bus stop. Maybe you're running to catch up to
(16:26):
the bus, and out of thegoodness of their heart, they will open
up the doors. Maybe they're notsupposed to, but she made sure that
she was not going to open thedoor because that person was obviously dangerous.
If he had a weapon, thenwhat then what are you saying that you
wouldn't have shown up? What ifhe had come back? She waited for
an hour. Crazy dude, I'mquite sure was somewhere near, and no
(16:48):
one came to her. Aid,it can't continue like this. It just
can't be like this every single daywhere every single day I'm on the air
and I can pull a metro storywhere either a passenger, an operator,
or someone else connected to Metro isbeing harmed. It's being assaulted, it's
(17:11):
being accosted. You're listening to Laterwith Moe Kelly on demand from KFI AM
six forty. Jennifer Lopez at theheight, if you will of her musical
career. She had a music careeronce upon a time, and it kind
of led into her acting career. She blew up dating Puffy back then,
(17:36):
and she became a worldwide recognizable star. I don't think she's the greatest actor
in the world. I don't thinkshe's the greatest singer in the world.
But she is a celebrity. Shehas star power. She's able to have
people be interested in her. That'sthe only way I can describe it.
People always want to know what she'sdoing, who she's dating, and the
status of her relationship, what's goingon in her life. But I didn't
(18:00):
know that she had come out withthe album relatively recently. I didn't know
that she was going on tour, and the news of the tour broke Back
in February, she was celebrating herlatest album called This Is Me Now,
which was the sequel to her twothousand and two album This Is Me then,
(18:22):
and that album famously chronicled her relationshipwith then fiance Ben AFFLECKX. I
guess she became she went full circlein all of this. Is that the
one with Jenny from the Block onit? I have no idea that is
one of the greatest unintentional comedy songsof all time. Yeah, Mark this
is Me. No, it's aserious question as a as a music I
(18:44):
honestly don't know which album that songis from. I don't know producer Kean
is looking it up. I couldtell no pressure, yes, yes,
it is nice. Okay, sobut it could sing it now, that'd
be great. That's not happening now, it's not gonna happen. No,
but we do know. After ticketswent on sale for this concert tour,
a lot of people noticed that aboutfive concert dates between August twenty second and
(19:07):
the thirtieth were marked as canceled onTicketmaster, and Ticketmaster marked the shows in
Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, and New Orleans is canceled. She
was going to open up her tourat the Kia Forum in Englewood on July
eleventh, which happens to be thesame day in which Donald Trump is being
sentenced, and then at Anaheim's HondaCenter on July thirteenth. But that's not
(19:33):
going to happen. Now. Thisis something that I have a little bit
of knowledge around because we would doconcert tours in the industry, and I
know Touolla knows about this. Ilook at this and I would bet everything
I have dollars to donuts that theyhad to cancel this because no one was
buying the tickets. The reason Isay that, whenever you book these venues
(19:57):
as an artist, a non refundabledeposit for them to hold the date.
Okay, the last thing you everwant to do is cancel it. But
you also know by the ticket saleswhether you will be able to get your
money back, whether you will beable to pay for the venue. And
(20:18):
there's a cancel by date. Ifyou are going to cancel, you have
to cancel by a certain date oryou not only lose your deposit, well
you deposit, you lose no matterwhat, but you incur a penalty because
they've held the date, and dependingon when you cancel, you've not given
that venue enough time to book someoneelse. In other words, you've taken
(20:41):
the opportunity away from let's say KiaForum to book someone else and make money
that night because they held that date. Who are they going to get to
go to the Kia form on Julyeleventh? You know, we're talking about
less than a month and a halffrom now. So there's money involved,
a penalty which be involved. There'sno way they would cancel the whole tour.
(21:03):
The whole tour, all that money, and yes, these tours are
insured, so it's not coming outof her pocket. But to cancel the
whole tour, it says to methat it was a losing proposition every step
of the way. The tour promoterdefinitely looked at ticket sales and attendance and
actually reviews of tours, that ofthe tour as it's been and said,
(21:26):
you know what, it's way tooexpensive to come into La alone and do
that. Now I know it isexpensive. I have done multiple concerts in
Los Angeles. It is beyond experse. You think rent is expensive, try
put insurance right, concert insurance isinsane, insane and this by cancer like
(21:47):
this, the concert promoter is ableto he's still taking the l he or
she is still taking a l right, but it is a lot less than
day of or week of. Youcancel out front like this and it's just,
hey, you may not get yoursecurity deposit back, you may have
to forfeit the security of deposit. But there are union fees involved, There
(22:07):
are so much involved in booking andputting on the concert. Yeah, I
I'd rather take that. And Isay that because if I didn't know that
she was going on tour, thatmeant not that I needed to know everything
about everything. I know everything abouteverything in music. It just says that
there was no buzz around her.None. We knew about Atlas, her
movie on Netflix. We were talkingabout that, and I understand while they
(22:30):
thought one would help promote the other. Yes, not a day goes by
in which Jennifer Lopez is not inthe news, usually having something to do
with gossip around her marriage with BenAffleck, whether it's on the rocks at
all that celebrity stuff. They're backtogether, or they're you know, they're
spitting the week in apart, orj Lo showed up to the premiere Batlass
(22:52):
and she wasn't wearing her wedding ring. That kind of bs. But it's
all a part of a machine tokeep you thinking and talking about Jennifer Lopez
and everything that she's doing. ButI don't remember any mentions of her tour.
I really didn't know that. Ihad no idea she was going on
on tour, and I suspect thata lot of other people didn't know and
did not care. She's I mean, okay, well, I'm just killing
(23:17):
any chance of getting an interview withher, so let's just go there.
It's not like she's Beyonce. It'snot like she's Taylor Swift, even though
she is a star in her ownright. When it comes to buying let's
say, three or four hundred dollarstickets at the Kia Forum or some other
large venue of more than ten totwelve thousand people, we're talking about the
(23:40):
Forum. We're not talking about theconger room. These are large venues,
these are stadiums, these are arenas. You have to be able to drive
tens of thousands of tickets, anywherebetween ten and fifteen thousand tickets. Now,
some of her cheapest tickets were sellingat the lowest. They were selling
under one hundred dollar, so shewas not even commanding that level of ticket
(24:04):
pricing. She just wasn't, Sorry, you know. I look, I
have in my garage. I havea j Loo plaque because of what I've
done. I have a gold jLoo plaque, gold record for my contribution
in helping her sell albums. WhenI was playing her record at the time,
my station was the station responsible forplaying her I'm Real record her and
(24:29):
Ja Ru and we blew that recordup. And so because of my efforts
with that, I received a goldplaque. I have a giant j Loo
signed autograph poster from her, allthose things that you give to programmers to
say thank you for supporting my record. So I have supported Jalo's music career.
And I didn't know she was ontour. I didn't know that.
I knew she was going back andsupported this new album and another tour.
(24:52):
News. Yeah, we just fedoff that whole j Lo interviews that ain't
never going to happen now. Popguye con Madonna was his with a lawsuit
this week over her celebration tour aftera SoCal man followed the complaint, saying
the massive stadium show he attended inLa forced him to view what he called
sexually explicit content and caused him emotionaldistress. It's Madonna. She's always half
(25:18):
naked, even at sixty nine yearsold, She's half naked everything in her
catalog like a virgin touched for thevery first time. Did you not know
who you were attending? Did younot know who you were going to see?
Madonna? Well, maybe he wastaking his daughter. Did he think
it was like Madonna from the CatholicChurch or something. We're talking about Madonna.
(25:44):
It's Madonna with the bullet bra,Madonna. That's kind of her thing.
That's like, it's like being offendedgoing to a porn convention. So
you knew what you were walking into, right, It's a porn convention.
You signed up this, you paidmoney for this. I'm thinking, you
know what you're paying for and andI know, I know. You don't
(26:08):
need to have a good reason tosue. Anybody can sue anyone for any
reason. It'll probably get thrown out. But Justin Lepeles is his name.
He filed a class action complaint againstMadonna, Live Nation and other entities involved
with the Celebration tour on Wednesday afterhe attended her March seventh concert at the
(26:29):
Kia Form And the show is basedentirely on her back catalog and forty year
career. Everything about Madonna is connectedwith sexualized movements and energy and music.
It's just it's just that's her.So she's known for It's Madonna. How
do you not know that? Didyou think that she was going to sing
(26:52):
borderline fifteen times in a row andcall the night Papa, don't preach?
Maybe he was going for best.He was going for that. He accuses
the pop star and organizers involved ofnegligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress,
false advertising, and breach of writtencontract. Quote pornography without warning,
topless women on stage simulating sex acts. I feel like suing Madonna. Hello,
(27:19):
Madonna, I actually want to suehim for ignorance? Can I sue
him? You can't? I wantto sue him for ignorance. I don't
know whether it won't get tossed out, but yes, you can. You
can. Kind of makes me wantto see the show now. Actually,
But what's worse is he's going tolose. The lawsuit's gonna get tossed and
he'll probably have to end up payingher legal fees for malicious, you know,
(27:45):
frivolous lawsuit. Ya gotta blah blahblah. There's your updated concert news.
It's later with Mo Kelly ca ifI am six forty, we are
allowed everywhere in the iHeartRadio app.Remo Kelly on We're live everywhere on the
(28:06):
iHeartRadio app. And I opened upthe show tonight telling you that next week
you really want to be listening inbecause we're going to be giving way a
lot of great tickets to two showsin particular. One is this one,
super Freak The Rick James Story Broadwayin Hollywood. The Pantagious Theater and Jacarius
(28:26):
Entertainment are pleased to announce that theHollywood Pantagous Theater in LA will host the
La premiere of super Freak, TheRick James Story about the charismatic, flamboyant,
provocative musician who dominated the airways withhis infectious song super Freak. Rick
James's fusion of funk, groove androck made the unruly pioneer the trendsetter of
(28:48):
the nineteen eighties. Super Freak willplay the Hollywood Pantagous Theater June sixth through
eighth for only four performances, andwe will be giving out tickets on Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday of next week foropening night, which will be Thursday.
But also tickets for Super Freak areavailable for purchase at Broadway Inhollywood dot
(29:12):
com or in person at the HollywoodPantag's box office, or you can win
them here when we give them awaynext week. So be on the lookout
and listen out for that and somethingelse in the world of entertainment. We
talked about this some time ago, about the Disneyland performers and their vote to
(29:33):
unionize, and I was making thepoint it was interesting how this performers union
was already in place at disney Worldback in the nineteen eighties, and how
it somehow it escaped not also happeningat Disneyland, the original Disneyland, after
all those years. It was juststrange to be. But now it is
(29:56):
happening, and the performers vote tounionize has been a f certified by federal
labor officials. And we often talkabout labor strive for unions and how they
may help or sometimes hinder groups ofemployees or different segments of labor. But
Disneyland performers, this is one Ithink we should all be able to get
(30:21):
behind, if only because they arevery talented. The work is very demanding.
If you've ever been to Disneyland andwatched the parade or the characters in
costumes, they are performing all day, all night. And it would make
sense if only because in every otherfacet of performance in entertainment, all of
(30:41):
those performers are unionized. It didn'tmake sense for performance at Disneyland, of
all places, not to be unionized. And Actors' Equity Association will be representing
this roughly seventeen hundred performers and assistantswho help bring Disney's pot popular characters to
life at not only Disneyland but alsoCalifornia Disney California Adventure. And this union
(31:07):
is the union which represents the theatricalperformers at the Disney Florida parks like Disney
World, which I was talking aboutat the very beginning. Most of Disneyland's
