You're listening to Later with Mo Kellyon demand from KFI AM six forty.
Now it's My Room Moment Tiffany Liveon Campile too. O Kelly, you
talk about this man Sushi Media withTiffany Hubbs six forty. It's Later with
(00:30):
Mo Kelly Live Everywhere on the iHeartRadioapp. Now let's toss it over to
Tiffany Hobbs with the viral. Looksgood evening, mister mo Kelly. Good
evening, Good evening. So firststory comes from TikTok and it involves famed
pizza restaurant and I use that inquotations because it's not really authentic Italian,
but it's beloved nonetheless, but famedpizza restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen, has
(00:54):
stepped in it recently. I've neverbeen a big fan of their food,
but go ahead, you're okay.Well, last week they made a huge
guffaw and it resulted in going viralon TikTok for all of the wrong reasons,
which they then tried to undo.So what happened is one TikTok user
ordered mac and cheese. They havemac and cheese on their menu, and
(01:15):
it's if you are a mac andcheese aficionado. This is very watered down,
very safe mac and cheese, noseasoning, no seasoning, not baked.
It's very bland. I've had it. Whatever the case, this person,
this woman wanted this mac and cheese, and she wanted it really badly
enough where that she would pay fordelivery for just a side of mac and
(01:37):
cheese. She ordered it. Shemade a mistake. There was some place
where you could select or de selectportions of this mac and cheese or aspects
of it, and somehow her selectionresulted in only only only the cheese being
delivered. Just no mac, Nomac. How do you have an option
(01:59):
where you could just have cheese whenordering mac and cheese? The conspiracy,
it's I don't know I and Idon't know how she was able to do
that. She also called the restaurantand was told, yeah, you actually
have to order these these ingredients separately. You have to order the macaroni and
the cheese. You have to orderthe macaroni and the cheese separately. So
(02:20):
she did as she was told, but she was surprised that she just got
the cheese. She looked in thebag, there was no mac. So
she takes two TikTok like that generationdoes, and she uploads the video complaining
about what happened. Her video,at this point has garnered almost four million
views and almost six hundred thousand likes, so it's completely viral as of this
week. Of course, it madeit too California Pizza Kitchens headquarters and one
(02:46):
of their head chefs, if notthe head chef, decided to upload his
own response video to CPK's TikTok account, and this is where the clip comes
in. Ordered mac and cheese fromCalifornia Pizza Kitchen and they just sent me
cheese. Hello everyone, Jeff Paulhere, I heard there's been a little
bit of confusion. I would probablymake our mammon cheese, so I thought
(03:07):
I'd send this video out nationwide tomake sure everybody knew the brock steps.
Step one, put the cheese, step two, put the back, step
three, add the map to thecheese. Very scientific, so good,
(03:28):
and so easy. A California PizzaKitchen, there's nothing more important to us
than the quality of our food andtaking care of our guests. Since recently
we gave one of our guests onlyhalf a mac and cheese, We're gonna
give all of our guests half offmac and cheese starting today through the rest
of the month. Cheese, Yeah, and follow us online the more details.
(03:49):
They're gonna give people the chance tospend money, make them money for
a mess up they did. They'regonna give me It's almost like you're gonna
sell me a car with no wheels. And they said, oh, we're
so sorry, mister o Kelly. What we're going to do is on your
next car, we're gonna give youhalf off. Now. No, no,
what about the car with no wheels. It's a marketing ploy. It
fell right into their lap and peopleare eating it up. No, don't
(04:15):
you dare Stefanie. No, no, I'm pulling rank. If you're interested
in the code for this fifty percentoff CPK's Mac and cheese, you can
go to California Pizza Kitchens website andyou'll find that. Next story is not
as joyful. Two fishermen are fortunatelysafe after a well capsized their boat.
(04:36):
I saw that video. I thinkthe well did it intentionally, but there's
some spin to this story. Sothis is what happened in New Hampshire this
previous Tuesday. So just yesterday neara State Park. Two men were thrown
into the water after their small fishingboat was hit by this huge well.
(04:58):
They went on to say, orbystanders went on to say, they went
under, they disappeared for a fewminutes, and then this whale just appeared
out of nowhere. Right, sothe boat was capsized. The boat just
is on its side. The whalecomes from nowhere, blind sides, it
hits, it knocks them over. These two men, they are thrown out
of the boat. And there's thisexpert, a whale expert, or I
(05:21):
think she was hired by the whale. She's doing really good pr for the
whale in this sense, and shegoes on to say the whale probably did
not know the boat was there. If you look at the video really carefully,
you can see that the whale hasits mouth open and it looks like
it's lunge feeding and actually trying tocatch fish. Does it matter if the
(05:45):
whale was intentional with trying to destroythe boat, because the whale was where
it was supposed to be. Thewhale was doing what whales do. It
was whaling very well, and itdecided that it didn't like this boat perhaps
in its path. Who knows.I wasn't there with the whale, and
I don't think anyone's interviewed the whaleat this point, but so biased media.
(06:06):
It did what whales do. Itcame out of the water, it
came down, and that boat justhappened to be in its way. In
the spirit of Jaws, the fishermengoing to need a bigger boat. Fortunately,
both fishermen serve come on, comeon, come on. Mark's saying,
no, I'm with my if Ican't get one for what I said,
(06:26):
you don't get one, Yeah,it's still God. Thanks a lot,
Thanks a lot. So again,Fortunately the two men survived. Going
on to our next story, andif you've been listening, you may have
heard Moe and Twala talk about this. The KFI news team is all over
it. It involves la robbery suspectswho hit off knocked off a bunch of
(06:47):
seven eleven's in south central Los Angeles. And where this story takes a viral
turn is that the suspects were actuallycaught because they played stupid games and won
even stupider prizes. They took picturesof the money they saw the over seven
hundred thousand dollars. No wait, wait, wait, wait, they got
(07:09):
how much? Why are they overseven hundred thousand dollars over the course of
the two months of their robberies.Wow, that's a lot of seven eleven
us gett knocked there. I waslike, that must be at least seventy
They don't care that carry that muchcash. Yeah, well they took this
cash. They fanned it out acrosstheir arms. They held it in their
hands and fanned it out, justgrand displays of just you know, just
rubbing it in people's faces. Theyuploaded these pictures to Instagram. Oh my
(07:35):
goodness, So they just the cash. Did they say how they got it?
They said, in so many words, this is what we do.
We knock off these places. I'mparaphrasing, but they absolutely implicated themselves in
these robberies. I mean, you'repretty stupid to commit a robbery in the
(07:56):
first place, so I can't necessarilythink that you're some bastion of of super
intelligence by uploading something to Instagram. They did. They got caught, and
it gets worse or better if youare law enforcement or these seven elevens.
Not only did they upload the pictures, that wasn't bad enough. The main
account holder, one of these guystagged or linked the accounts of his accomplice
(08:22):
accomplishes in his post. That madeit real easy, real easy. So
of course law enforcement zeroed in foundthese guys and as you've heard from the
KFI News team and mister Mokelly, they have since been arrested and they're facing
because of the charges of robbery andhaving firearms and using these firearms is uh,
(08:43):
you know, in threatening ways upto life in prison. Yeh see,
knocking off seven elevens is not theflex that people want to think it
is. It's not something that youwould even brag about. Look, yeah,
congratulations, well done, well JohnBay stupid games. When we come
back, we'll have the second portionof the viral Load with Tiffany Hobbs as
(09:05):
it Later with Mo Kelly KFI AMsix forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
You're listening to Later with mo Kellyon demand from KFI AM six forty.
It's a Later with mo Kelly andit's the Viral Load with Tiffany Hobbs
Part two. There's a little differentangle to this next story in terms of
its virality. Didn't go viral onTikTok or Instagram or YouTube. It actually
(09:30):
went viral on the crowdfunding site gofund me. This is where the story
comes from. So this week ayoung man, a professional surfer, unfortunately,
had a really terrible interaction with ashark in of all places, Australia.
And you might be thinking, well, that's what happens in Australia.
(09:50):
That's certainly what I was thinking. And this is what he does. He
was surfing and he was bitten bya shark. The shark bit his board
and bit off his leg completely.Fortunately, in this hodgepodge of a strange
aspect story, the leg was ableto be recovered. And here's what happened.
(10:13):
The young man, Kai Mackenzie, twenty three year old, was taken
from the ocean. People saw whathappened. He was resuscitated on sand off
duty police officer was walking a dognearby, ran over, used the leash
as a tourniquet, was able tostrap the leg up keep him from bleeding
(10:33):
out. They airlifted him to alocal hospital where he still is and that
same day bystanders on the beach werein the water. They recovered his severed
leg oo ew, put it onice double ew and fortunately we're smart enough
to take it to the police station, where the police then let the hospital
(10:56):
know and they airlifted this leg tothe hospital and now they are playing build
a bear and putting him back togetherbecause they were able to do so in
time. So how many people needto lose appendages before people think twice about
surfing, especially in that region ofthe world. I don't think anything can
deter them from their dream. Ah, they're better than me. So the
(11:18):
family has taken to GoFundMe, popularcrowdfunding site, to raise money for Kai
mackenzie's hospital bills. Almost said vetbills. I'm thinking of sharks, but
for his hospital bills. And atthis time they have exceeded their request amount
by tens of thousand dollars and it'sonly continuing to grow because of its viral
(11:39):
aspect. There you go. Thenext story, the very last story we're
doing, has to deal with thisupcoming election, and I know we've been
covering it here on KFI at nauseum, but there's a viral side to it.
Of course, when any candidate speaks, things are going to go viral.
It's the nature of social media.People latch on, there are memes,
(12:01):
there are retweets, whatever it maybe, and these things go around
the world and are seen by millionsof people. Well, young voters are
keeping up with political news on socialmedia. That's their main way of getting
information and this has been proven. And the emergence of Vice President Kamala Harris
(12:22):
is as the likely presidential nominee,is also generating these viral memes and references
like tweets and other things that aregoing viral. So Kamala Harris, vice
President Harris is everywhere, of course, and she now is also trending after
a hugely successful pop artist, someoneI'm not familiar with, but millions of
(12:45):
young people are, by the nameof Charlie x c X. This huge
pop artist has called Kamala Harris theembodiment of quote brat spirit what here's what
that means. So Charlie XCX,this huge pop star, has a new
(13:07):
album and the album title is bratlike that you know that that precocious,
irritating little child that we don't wantto be around. Obnoxious little child you
may or person you may not wantto be around. But Charlie XCX aims
to reclaim the word and use itas the soundtrack for young feminists. So
(13:28):
it's a rallying cry, and shehas seemingly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris by
saying that President Vice President Kamala Harrisis the embodiment of the title of her
new album, Bratt. So CharlieXCX went on to get on x slash
Twitter and she tweeted, Kamala isBratt. That simple phrase, That simple
(13:54):
sentence was viewed over fifty million times. Whoo, and will under doubtedly reach
more young people than any conventional campaignadvertisement might hope to do. Yeah,
you can't buy a spot on atelevision station or a cable network which is
going to have that type of exponentialincreasing reach. You have the people who
(14:18):
see the ad and that's it.But we know with virality, it can
be retweeted and reposted and shared andre shared in perpetuity, in perpetuity,
and that's what's happening. So youconnect this huge pop star to this presidential
campaign and it is taking off toheights that no one could ever predict millions
and millions of times. And nextsegment, Mo will talk more about this,
(14:43):
this idea of brat Summer. Whenwe come back. It's later with
Moe Kelly caf I AM six forty. We are live everywhere on the iHeartRadio
app. And I look at Markand I think, yeah, he's definitely
brat. Oh, no question aboutit. I've got a tattoo of that
where somewhere you can't see because I'mnot going to stand up where the hair
(15:03):
meets j that's it. Time togo to the news. You're listening to
Later with Moe Kelly on demand fromKFI AM six forty. Charlie XCX not
my wheelhouse, not meant for me, not talking to me. But Charlie
XCX has touched a nerve and apositive sense here in America. Foreign artist,
(15:31):
but her most recent album, thisalbum and its themes of empowerment through
friendship, having fun, partying, has really connected with women, but not
in a traditional way. There's someunderlying messages where she's talking about brat and
it's an identity which is part counterculture. This is my way of describing it.
(15:56):
Where you have women not wearing makeI've seen her talk about it in
interviews where you'd have that BedHead, you just wake up, no makeup,
you look like you just started yourday. You're not trying to appeal to
the classic Instagram insta model perfectly sculptedand called scenery, where it looks like,
(16:18):
you know, you have the perfectlyscripted and cultivated and curated life.
It's anti to all of that andthe way she's presented it. It is
really caught on with women and alsothe LGBTQ IA plus community. And as
we talked about last segment, ithas caught on in the political sphere.
(16:44):
It didn't do it. It didn'thappen from politics and political features reaching out
to her or reaching out to theyoung people. They decided to attach themselves
to Vice President Kamala Harris and hercampaign. They did all their own.
It was something which was completely organicand it's if anything, each generation has
(17:07):
their moment. I call it.Before we would call this yolo. You
only live once. It's very verysimilar to that, where you don't care
about things that people prior to youand generations previous to you had cared about.
You live fancy free. Within acertain amount of years of your life,
you're not caring about tomorrow. Thistakes it one step further where you're
(17:30):
you're not really caring about what societyhas to say about beauty. About presentation,
about how a woman is supposed tolook, how a woman is supposed
to act, And that's why it'smore closely aligned to feminism, where women
get to control their identity and howthey want to present themselves, not how
(17:52):
society dictates that they should act, they should move, they should dress,
they how they should even perform. And there's a connection here when we talk
about the political issues of the dayas it relates to women's reproductive rights and
abortion. So you can see wherethe connection comes in. But it was
something that was completely organicated. Nowit's turned into what has been described as
(18:17):
brat Summer, where the whole summerhas been dedicated to that or will be
dedicated to that. And you'll seethis recurring meme where you have this lime
green static photo with aerial black texton it. It's supposed to look uncute,
it's supposed to look unsexy. Youlook at it and say, why
(18:41):
would they choose that color, whywould they choose that font? Because it's
counter to everything that is stylized andcurated that we see today. And I
know it's not meant for me.They're not talking about me, but they're
definitely talking to me. They wantme to listen. They want you to
listen, they want want you topay attention, because they're saying, old
(19:03):
folks, the stuff you find important, we don't find important. The stuff
that you say is cool, thestuff that you say is the standard of
beauty. We're pushing back against that. And I wonder, you know how
long it's going to last. Iwonder what type of impact it's going to
have politically, because that's where itdoes cross into my world and what I
(19:26):
do. It came on my radarbecause of how it attached itself to Kamala
Harris, and I saw the like, what the hell is Brat? What
the hell is the Summer of Bratt? And then I realized, ooh,
okay, these are millions and millionsof young people and they may not politically
be all that sophisticated. They maynot be a wide voting block, but
(19:48):
they are loud, they are beingheard, and they're making an impact as
far as how people are talking aboutthis election in a short amount of time.
That much I do know, andI got to give that credit.
And when I looked at it again, it seemed a lot like Yolo.
Just in twenty twenty four, youonly live once, this care free,
counterculture, anti establishment attitude when itcomes to fashion, when it comes to
(20:14):
behavior, when it comes to presentation, because it used to be people will
sit down. Well they still do, but you know, when you get
on someone's Instagram feed, it's alwaysthe perfect shot with the filter taking,
with the perfect lighting, and they'lltake pictures of their food and their hair
is perfect, the clothes are perfect, and Brad is saying no, no,
no, no, we're anti allof that. And for me it's
(20:37):
kind of refreshing because I don't feelso bad about my Instagram because I don't
do filters. I don't often takepictures of my food. My hair is
whatever my hair is. If it'snot shaved, well, you know,
but you know, don't rub itin, rub it in. When people
describe me that way, it's usuallyjust with the words slovenly. So if
(20:57):
are you sure as not lovingly? No, no, no, it's definitely
slovenly. It sounds like what you'redescribing my interpretation as a former young person
is it's sort of a combination ofkeeping it real and IDGAF. Yes,
thank you, No, I actuallythink that's accurate. Not it's nonconformist,
(21:18):
which is the part of every generation. There's always a nonconformist portion of the
young people of the day. Butthese young people have far more tools to
express it, and they're pretty savvyin how they go about it, and
they are increasingly realizing the power ofsocial media and using it for something other
(21:41):
than personal self aggrandizement. You canget this stuff translated on those newer Android
phones that bend in half the folds. Yeah, yeah, like, please
translate, Bratt and it'll come rightup with what I just said. Oh
it will Yeah, Okay, Imean I don't have one here, but
I'm just telling you that's the functionthey prefer got it. Has Kamala Harris
actually adopted this? Has she spokenno? No, no. I know
(22:07):
she's acknowledged it. I don't knowif she's adopted it. I know it
was I think it was said duringone of her rallies or something. She
made mention of it, But it'snot like she's embracing it. I know
the campaign is going to use itas best they can. It's free advertisement.
It's a freeway to reach a demographicthey wanted to reach. These are
Remember we were talking about the voterwhat this was before you got here tifty
(22:30):
but voter dot org. Voter dotorg said that they've had the most single
day registrations new registrations in twenty fourhours in history, some thirty eight thousand
new voter registrations in the past twodays each day, averaging, which means
(22:52):
people are more engaged, which meanspeople are paying attention to what the candidates
are saying. How informed they are. I don't know how committed they are
to actually voting on election day orgetting their baalid in early because of early
balloting and absentee validing. I don'tknow. I don't know. But the
(23:14):
point is if the younger generation everrealized how much power they actually had and
voted relative to the numbers of peoplethey had, they could easily swing elections.
And that's why politicians have been beggingfor these new voters, these emerging
voting bases for a century, becauseif they ever voted en Moss, if
(23:37):
they ever voted consistent with the numbersof eligible voters, they wouldn't be stopped.
But they just haven't figured out.And that's a part of youth being
wasted on the young. I amseeing more that I just looked up because
this is fleshing out for me inreal time too, that Vice President Harris
actually is running an ad where shehas Brat kind of emblazoned or periodically appearing
(24:00):
on the screen like a strobe thatbright green and black lettering you were saying
on the forefront. But she's usingit in her newest campaign ad, the
main one that's running right now.Well, she's only been a candidate for
like two and a half days, five minutes, and all this has been
moving so quickly. Yes, I'mnot surprised that they're taking advantage of the
(24:22):
moment. They're seizing the moment, and obviously they're making these inroads to voters
eighteen to twenty four. And I'mquite sure Charlie XCX, she's not an
American citizen, but she will probablyattach herself in some way to the Harris
campaign. Can I say one littlething that shirks me? I wish and
I know she's not an American citizen, Charlie XCX, but I really wish
(24:44):
the teacher in me wishes that itwas you know, Kamala or Kamala is
a bratt versus Kamala is Brat.I just it's so hard for me to
get behind that. Well one yearteacher too, is not meant for us.
I know I'm part of them, and I look at as part of
the messages. Yeah, you oldfolks, you probably would not like the
message. They're going to give itto us as they want to give it
(25:08):
to us. They're going to addressthe way they want, They're going to
speak the way they want to carewhat we think. That's the whole point
of Bratt. It's a brat summer. It's not meant for you old people.
I didn't realize I was on thisside of things. I still feel
on that side. Well reminded everyday. I'm special because I can still
relate to the young people have thisgift where I can turn it on and
(25:30):
off. They see kinship in me. Same My inner young person just still
just it seeps out. I thinkyou're brad, But when I say that,
I'm thinking more in terms of aBroadwurst. Bratt and Brot are not
the same. It was a valianteffort, Tomato, I get that one.
(25:59):
Well, catch up with George Norywhen we come back. I don't
know if he's brat. He mightlet us know. Yeah, ask him.
Be sure to ask him. He'llprobably come with Brot before Brack.
Yeah, I am six forty. It's later with Mo Kelly Live everywhere on
(26:21):
the iHeartRadio app. Be sure tocheck out the podcast later tonight if you
miss any portion of the show. It's always a good time to listen back
to how funny I was and howfunny Mark Ronner was not. He didn't
get any room shots tonight, none, not a one. I hope you
know how you sound right now, arrogant, narcissistic, keep going, Okay,
coming up in just a few minutes, we'll be Coast to Coast am
(26:42):
with George Norri, who joins meright now with the preview. Good evening,
sir mister Kelly. We've got agreat show on science, and then
later on we're going to the otherside on Coast to Coast. I love
it when you go to the otherside and somehow you manage to come back.
You have to come back. It'snot worth it every single time.
You got it. Talk later beforewe get out of here. That look,
(27:03):
we had a very very full showtonight. I came in expecting to
only talk about one dead body atthe Metro, and then we ended up
with a stabbing at a different metrostop. There was an assault rifle used
at a robbery at a seven eleven. It's almost like la crime is happening
in real time just for the benefitof me, just to prove once again
(27:29):
I'm right. I keep trying totell you. Don't go to a seven
eleven. Definitely, don't go toa seven eleven at night. Don't ride
the metro unless you're open to beingstabbed. I mean some people are,
I'm not. But if you're opento being stabbed, yes, go ahead
and ride the metro. You mighteven happen across a corpse on your way
to work on a given morning. If someone happened to open a seven eleven
inside a metro, would that bethe most dangerous place in the universe.
(27:52):
Oh, that's a great question. That's a great question. Philosophical philosophy on
one question. Yeah, are youmore likely to get stabbed on the way
to the seven eleven inside the metro? Or might you get robbed inside the
seven eleven and then they'll stab someoneon the way out as they get on
the metro trying to get away.Yeah, it's like the old immovable object
(28:15):
and irresistible force thing which one's worse, Well, they can be equally bad.
You can always end up dead witheither of them. Let me ask
you, tiffing very quickly, haveyou ever written LA's public transportation? Absolutely?
When I was in high school andprior to that, learning to navigate
the city, I rode from theSouth Bay all the way to Westchester High
School and from Guardina to Torrance toDelamel Mall and South Bay Galleria. I
(28:40):
was all over the place. AndI've written the subways, but Guardina bus
lines because I've written those, thoseare decent, or word decent. Back
of the day, they were decent. There was neil. There's still some
things to watch out for. Youneeded to keep your head on a swivel.
But I've done South Bay Transit,I've done La La Transit, I've
done the metro trains, and Iam that I don't have to do them
(29:00):
anymore. I am a photographer,so sometimes I would ride the trains just
so I could get photos of,you know, the ambiance and everything.
But as the last few years haveshown us, it's not always the safest
thing to do. Yeah, Iwould love, and I mean this sincerely.
I would love to be able toride public transit every single day.
I would. It would obviously beless expensive, it would be less wear
(29:23):
and tear on my car. Itwould be and I've done it before so
I know it's about the same amountof time. But it would allow me
to do other things as opposed tojust sitting in the car for an hour
hour and a half. But I'mnot going to get on a train now
with a laptop or something. No, I'm not going to allow my attention
to to I'm not gonna allow myselfto be distracted on my computer while things
(29:47):
are going on around me, whichmay you know, end up with me
getting a knife to the chest. And you're a man with a black belt,
I see, don't even say that. I don't. I don't use
that. I don't even think aboutthat in the sense of being able to
fight. No, I'm just itgives me a degree of awareness of situation.
Self defense always starts with being awareof your sur creating a separation between
(30:08):
our delineation between you and I.I am not a person who holds any
sort of martial arts training. Ijust know street fighting, and only some
of that. And I don't wantto get on the train. As a
woman, I just or the bus, and I live near so much public
transit and I see people doing itall the time. But you hear the
stories, you see the apps, you read the crime statistics, and I
(30:29):
just feel like I would be testingkind of what's playing with testing inevitability,
playing with fire. Absolutely, yeah, And look, we make jokes about
it, but it's very serious becauseit is impacting people's lives. People are
dying in around on public transportation. If you can't make public transportation safe,
then rest of society is not safebecause far too many people have to depend
(30:55):
on public transportation. They said thatridership is actually up in the city of
Los Angeles. So I think thereare people who are writing just to see
if they still got it, ifsomebody should test them, if they you
know, if they want to usethat opportunity. I feel like it's almost
like voyeurism or tourism now, justto see if you'll encounter someone who might
try to stab you. Look, there's already been a time like this in
(31:18):
America, and that was in thelate nineteen seventies, especially New York subway
