Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Have you decided what you're going to be doing New
Year's Eve? Or you're just going to stay in or
is it a function of just not wanting to spend
all the money that usually comes with it, because invariably
places will jack up these prices and makes it difficult
for you to even get an uber for a reasonable price,
either going or coming.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
It doesn't matter whether you're going to a.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hotel or a smaller soiree costs a lot of money usually,
and that's saying nothing of dressing up and cost of alcohol. Well,
here we have some free or at least cheap things
you can do for New Year's Eve, doesn't require any thought.
There's First Night Fullerton, which is downtown Fullerton Plaza. It's free,
(00:58):
you can get the information at City of Fullerton dot com.
But it has live music, carnival rides, and a fireworks
show and it runs from seven pm to midnight. It's
free to attend, but tickets will be required for things
like the carnival rides, games and other activities. Of course food,
but it's still reasonably priced. Tickets start at one dollar
(01:19):
each for the carnival rides and the carnival rights usually
costs four to ten tickets and games up to five tickets.
There's the Grand Park, New York'sey celebration, which has been
coming along for the past decade or so. That's downtown
at two hundred North Grand Avenue. You can find out
all the information at Grand parkla dot org. And that
(01:43):
party is the city's largest celebration and it goes from
eight pm to twelve thirty am, and it'll be over
the course of several city blocks with musical performances on
two different stages, thirty food trucks, and a three D
light show projected onto City Hall at mid night. Again,
with the exception of food, it's free. And maybe you're
(02:09):
in the Marina del Rey area, Marina del Ray's New
Year's Eve fireworks and Glow Party. It's at Burton Chase Park,
which is one three, six five zero minute nile away,
cost free. You can get the information at La County
dot gov. The glow party will include glow sticks, of course,
(02:30):
as well as DJ's food trucks, a nine pm countdown
and a midnight countdown followed by a ten minute fireworks show.
I guess the nine pm countdown is for the to
get the kids put them in the bed. Yeah that's
the kid one.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yep, all right.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
There's the New Year's Eve party at Broken Shaker, which
is the Freehand Hotel four one six West eighth Street.
Cost is free. We're gonna have to change them out
in the new year. We gotta get some yeah, new
ladies cheering. You can get the information at Brokenshaker dot com.
(03:11):
You can dance the night away to house music and
a complimentary champagne toast at the Freehands Hotel rooftop bar.
The music lineup includes a bunch of people you've never
heard of. But the party starts at eight pm and
it goes on until two a am. Free to get in.
Free to get in, you have to pay for food
and drinks. There's a New Year's Eve skate party. This
(03:33):
is the last time you went to a skate party.
World on wheels.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Oh yeah, I want ice skating Christmas Eve? But oh
you did. I didn't skate, Okay, I paid for kids
to skate and watch them. Yeah, I can't afford to
bust my Assiy, no break a hip. It's at the
Fountain Valley Skating which is nine to one zero five
Recreation Circle. Now this isn't free, but it's reasonably priced
at twenty dollars admission. You can get not so enthusiastic
(04:05):
about that twenty dollars.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You get the information at f VSC dot com Fountain
Valley Skating dot com. Rolling to the New Year at
Fountain Valley Skating during a skate party. Two sessions available
in New Year's Eve from six to nine pm and
nine to midnight. The roller party will include DJ spinning music,
a countdown, and of course lots of skating. If you're
(04:27):
a skater, this one I think is the one to
go to. Yeah, I was a skater back in like
sixth seventh grade. There was this place called Shamrock Skating.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
It was like Shamrock Skating. It was in old Torrents.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I think it was like right off of Torrans Boulevard
about Western or something like that.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
And it was fun.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
We'd have these skate dances, if you will, for middle
school as a matter of fact, at Shamrock. So this
is like early eighties and if someone was from Torrents
or in and around Torrents, you probably remember Shamrock. It
was a good time, but that was forty five years ago.
There's the Noon Year's Eve party. Yes, Noon Year's Eve party,
(05:07):
and it's at the Pen Strips Restaurant and Bowling at
Westfield to Panga.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Ooh you know where that is, right? Yes, No, we
had our holiday party for the school there. This place
is shwinky, but it's for the kids, it seems. Restaurant
in Bowling celebrates Noon Year's Eve with an eleven am
to twelve thirty pm party for the kids.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
That's kind of cool, but it's not free. Ten dollars
per ticket. Nothing, No, it's nothing. And for ten dollars kids,
we'll get to see a balloon drop, get party favors,
free kids meals, plus mocktails to make it all more legit.
I don't know that sounds. I don't know if I'm okay,
we're giving kids mocktails? No, no, no, no, this is
this is fine. This this just call it punch.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
What's wrong? Connext to be complaining about candy cigarettes? Oh,
if my mother's.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Listening, No, she wouldn't let me get the candy cigarettes.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
What are you talking about. You've met my mother, she's
she's very strict even to this day. What about those
bubblegum cigars? Especially had a problem with those too, Ah
gum cigars. I don't think I had those. Oh, you
were so deprived now I feel bad for you. No,
I know, I don't think she didn't.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't think she liked the visual of the candy cigarettes.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, would the powder out? Yeah? Yeah? Well you poor kids. Yeah,
but she let me have a cap gun. Who knew?
Who knew? A couple more.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
There's the New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade, which is up
at snow Summit Big Bear Lake. But here's a good part.
It's free, completely free. You get the information at Big
Bear Mountainresort dot com. More than two hundred skiers and
snowboarders will light up the snowy mountain on New Year's
Eve when they make their way down with torches during
(06:58):
the annual torch Light Parade.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
That sounds very cool. That sounds like death at night
with torches coming down the mountain. Oh, I wouldn't be
coming down the mountain. I watch.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
I'm not skiing or so. Look I've been skiing and
I've been snow tubing. I guess you call it snow tipping.
We go down on the inner two. Yeah, bust my
ass real badly and I was a kid then can't
do that again.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
But it was starting drinks, people getting a little something
to drink, then going up on the slope, coming out
with a torch. Let me on the skin with a
power right to the tree. Is that how Sunny Bono dyed?
That is he skied into a tree with his head? Yes, yeah, yes,
he did.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Sad story, great entertainer.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
His wife, his ex wife became very famous. That's ringing
a bell. Yeah did she know? Yeah she did.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
The event starts at six pm as the DJ spinning tunes,
followed by a performance from Woodland Hills rockers Bad Sons,
not familiar but they're probably very good, and the skiers
and snowboarders. Snowboarders will make their way down the hill
starting at nine pm too. Oh yes, skiing with a torch,
nothing bad can happen. There's the Redlands New Year's Eve
(08:03):
Orange Drop, which is Citrus Avenue between sixth and eighth
Streets in Redlands.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
The cost is free free.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
You can get information at Redlands Chamber dot org and
the orange will drop at nine pm and not midnight.
This year so more families can attend, they'll do a
nine pm drop. There's the Temecula Grape Drop, which is
forty one thousand Main Street in Temecula, cost Free. The
(08:33):
grape drops at nine pm this year for the annual celebration.
The overall event will be from six to ten pm
and will include the city's first ever drone show, live music,
food and kid activities. The drone show is at eight
point fifty pm, right before the grape drop. And lastly,
there is the y two K New Year's Eve Bash
(08:55):
at Angel City Brewery in La cost Say it with
me free and the peg You should get the party
like it's nineteen ninety nine all over again with the
free Throwback Party at Angel City Brewery, which runs from
four pm to two am.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
There'll be some drunk fools out there. That sounds that's
like something I would go to. Yeah, but four pm.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
If you start at four pm, you're done by eight
You got to be done by eight eighty. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
But also beer that fills me up real quick. But
they got some good beer I can't.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Drink anywhere over the course of like ten hours, twelve hours.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
This is a pace yourself event. What are you talking about.
Look if it.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Opens at four, it starts at four pm. I'm not
getting there before seven to eight pm. If I get
to too early, I want to feel the need to
start drinking early. Yeah, do that of course for twenty
one and over, and include DJ spinning throwback hits from
the late nineties and early two thousands, retro photos, and
people are encouraged to come dressed in their best nineties gear.
(09:54):
I think I still got something in my in my
closet at home. Yep, I got some heavy mark you
got me nineties closed naturally?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Just you haven't thrown out oh underwear? Still all of it? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Oh damn, I don't throw stuff out. Jesus, simple yes
would have been sufficient.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I want you to. I want you to get a
good visual there, no.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
No, And when we come back, we'll tell you about
the best New Year's Eve celebrations outside of New York
City but around the country. Let's just say you're listening
via the iHeartRadio app. We got something for you as well.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI Am six forty.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Today after Christmas, first day of kwantson second day of Hanukkah.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
For some reason, we keep hearing the lie, the lie
that the place to be on New Year's Eve is
New York City. You could not pay me to be
out there on the street watching Ryan Seacrest from Afar,
waiting for a ball to drop in four degree weather.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I've been in New York in January.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
It is horrible, or, at least for a Californian's perspective,
you couldn't pay me. But that is supposedly the gold
standard which everything is judged against. But there are other
places in other cities which have traditions which depending on
where you are right now. Let's say you travel for
the holidays going to see family, and you're not in
(11:24):
southern California, there might be some other places you want
to check out, some other traditions you may want to experience,
but I'm not going to New York. Chicago transforms into
a winter wonderland with fireworks over Lake Michigan and events
showcasing the city's flair. You can watch the spectacle from
Navy Pier, cooz it up on a rooftop with a
(11:44):
view or an enchanting river cruise with champagne toast.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I'm not getting on a river cruise in Chicago. It's
all Chile. It's the two degrees. It's four degrees in
New York. It's two in Chicago. But that lake be
frozen probably it's cold.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Yeah, yes, if you've ever been in Chicago in the winter,
the breeze coming off Lake Michigan, they call it the Hawk.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
It is no it is no joke. It's nothing to
play with. But I would go to New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I would try that out Jackson Squares where culture meets celebration,
as they say, with crowds gathering for what is called
an electrifying night of live music, local cruising, and more.
When the clock strikes midnight, you can enjoy fireworks on
the Mississippi River or head to Bourbon Street for other stuff. Yeah,
I could see myself, you know, a long time ago
(12:33):
as a young man, you know, in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Dallas, Texas.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Dallas will utilize sky elements, drones and the iconic Reunion
Tower for a celebration that lights up the sky. And
it's becoming one of the things to do in Texas
when it comes to New Year's. Other cities Flagstaff, Arizona.
I've been through Flagstaff. It's in northern Arizona. Flagstaff combines
(12:58):
natural beauty with the small spirit of a Hallmark movie
not sociure.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Its signature event is the pine Cone Drop, held at
the historic Weatherford Hotel, draws locals and visitors. You can
also enjoy the cozy hospitality of flag Staff's bed and breakfast,
offering the perfect saverine treat for couples and families. Seems
very low maintenance and very low enjoyment. There's Beaufort, South Carolina,
(13:25):
known for its waterfront charm, picturesque coastal town rings in
the new year with fireworks over the harbor, live music,
and a menu rich with low country cuisine like crabcake
and gumbo. Okay, maybe Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa offers a variety
of family friendly New Year's Eve celebrations. One of the
(13:49):
one highlights is the Noon Year's Eve at Discovery Lab
from nine thirty am to noon. I can't go to
any New Year's Eve celebration, even for kids at ninth
thirty in the morning.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
That's a chore. When you have kids that little, you
will get up. I have done this at Discovery Cube
here in the valley. So what time do you go
to sleep then? For New Year's eight o'clock? I mean yeah,
typically when you have kids that are going to bed is
the first thing you want to do. You're not trying
to be of late. We have little kids at.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Least, all right, Toola, you might know something about this. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Bethlehem weaves holiday matchic into its New Year's Eve celebrations,
blending old world charm with modern festivities. You can stroll
through the beautiful streets, explore local artists in markets, and
enjoy a family friendly attract us to keep the holiday
spirit alive even after January.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
First driven through Bethlehem. Did not stop and take in
the sites, but have driven through. Yes, And of course
we have to talk about Las Vegas. Sin city knows
how to throw a party. I'm not so sure about that.
I'm not so sure. But New Year's Eve is a
big deal when it comes to Vegas.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
I've been to two different cities when it comes to
New Year's Eve, with exception of San Diego and I
told that story about the party bus and Las Vegas.
I've been on Las Vegas Wonder Year's Eve. I've always
spent New Year's Eve in the Los Angeles area. Outside
of that, Las Vegas was tremendously, tremendously underwhelming.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
It's just Las Vegas, just more drunk people. It wasn't anything.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Special as far as how Las Vegas put on a
quote unquote party. That was my impression of it. I
could have done without it. I can say I've done it,
but it was really really underwhelming. San Diego you explained
that that was different. It wasn't so much San Diego.
It was more like the party bus going to and
from San Diego, which was on hit.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
That was a great night. Disneyland on New Year's Eve,
did that before. That was amazing. Bringing in the New
Year Disneyland California amazing, amazing.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
What was special about other than the.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
The fireworks show is incredible. The vibe, the crowd, everything
about it. It was and it wasn't that crowded. So
it's like, if you're going to get a ticket to
go to that, lucky you, because it takes you know,
hell in high water to even get a ticket to
get into this event. And we were there, and I
think when we went Mason was was like maybe four,
(16:28):
and I think Miley was just born to it. It's like,
so we went when they were little, little and it
was a ball, like all of the accoutrement of Disneyland
on New Year's Eve, So no real drinks, but you know,
everyone there is having a good time. It was it
was just something magical about it. It was just being there
(16:48):
and the festivities and knowing I'm here and you're not.
Oh yeah, I'd never considered Disneyland on New Year's Eve.
You got to try it, Okay.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Stand at the hotel, right, No, no, I'm not trying
to go anywhere.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
No no, no, yeah, stayed at the home, trying to.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Drive home out, trying to deal with traffl I'm not
trying to deal with people. I'd rather enjoyed Disneyland that
experience and then walk up to my hotel and go
to sleep.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Yeah, and to all are all the rides open like normal? Yeah? Yeah,
Now they shut stuff down as it gets closer to midnight,
they start to shut stuff down because they want anyone
stuck on the ride while the you know, the countdown
is going on, becau they have a whole countdown, and
then the fireworks show is out of control and then
right after that the rides go back open.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
That's pretty cool. Yeah, any adult entertainment. No, I mean,
I mean back then we talked about how they were
slowly introducing alcohol.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Was there There might have been there, I'm sure. I'm
sure at that point. You know, some of the restaurants
in Adventureland were sor serving liquor. I think they at
that time. So it's like, yeah, they weren't like all
out there, but if you were an adult and you
knew you could get like a beer, I don't think
this still hurts. Serves really hard liquor. I don't know
if they're like Jack and Coke no Downtown Disney, you
(18:07):
can get whatever you want. Ye Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Back then, Yeah, Mark, have you decided what you're gonna
do for New Year's yet?
Speaker 3 (18:15):
I believe I have the honor of working again. I'll
be right here. Me and Mark will be celebrating here. Yep,
Stephan and I are. You're gonna be toasting and kissing. Yeah,
there's someone else in the building, so yeah, well just
because never mind, feel obligated. Gotta kiss somebody at midnight?
(18:35):
What are you gonna do? Are you getting off at midnight?
New Year's Eve. Yeah, that's when I usually get off here.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Okay, I don't know if you have special schedule because
we've been short staffed around here.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Oh yeah, some people have been enlisted to work a
little extra, and I've had to work some weekends. But
foodsh I had appreciate it if you shaved on New
Year's No, he'd appreciated with no tongue that as well.
Look at the time.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Ka if I am since forty OnLive every morning I
Heart Radio app No, no, no. If you can talk about
your draws, okay, I can talk about no tongue.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Oh yeah, get a good mental image of that, will you.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
You're listening to later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
What qualifies as the best porno mag If you have
a collection, what do you rank them?
Speaker 3 (19:18):
What? What does that mean? What is it trying to say?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
You have your semi favorite porno mag and then you
have your your favorite porno mag What is the hierarchy
with the structure? These are the existential questions of life
which need answering.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
You're on your own on this one. You just keep talking. Also,
who buys magazines in the year of Our Lord twenty
twenty four.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
It's strange that you asked that, because I was in
a roups the other day and also at Albertson, so
I saw it in two different locations.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
There are still magazine.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Sections in some grocery stores.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Oh yeah, for sure, somebody's buying them. Somebody is. I
don't know who. I think it's probably like the moms
and grandma's, you know.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
And that's not even counting the stuff they sell up
a checkout, like the Weekly, World News and National in
Choir that I can't believe it's still around in Touch weekly,
all of those people buy them.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
There's still a viable business.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
I don't have an explanation for you, Mark, I just don't, Okay,
you know, in the year of Our Lord twenty twenty four,
somebody's buying them. I can't communicate who is buying them.
I've never seen it. It's almost like Santa Claus.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
I just assume it's the people who need to use
the restroom at the store and they take the magazines
in with them.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
I would never, in all my life attempt at number
two at a grocery store.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Well, sometimes people can't help it, you know. No, I
get that I get that when nature calls, you must answer.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
That doesn't sound like nature, That sounds like an ibs
or something.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Sometimes nature calls urgently. I better pick up.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Okay, question, real question though, for you guys, since you're
gonna be working New Year's Eve all the way up
to the ball drop.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Yes, we'd love it if you sent food. That is
so generous of you. I was actually going to ask that.
I really was serious. I was actually going to ask that.
That's awesome, that's the truth. That was like, yeah, I
guess you're psychic. Noap, because I.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Really was going to ask you, but I was gonna
give you adequate time to think about what you would want.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
It was funny because on Christmas Eve, Mark comes in.
He's like, all right, thanks for getting me food, and
I'm like, you're the one in zag after that doesn't
mean anything. Well, hopefully someone will bring his food. He's
hopefully someone will bring us food, and then within thirty
minutes we get the text from to Wallas. That's why
I answered so fast.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I was like, whoa, Okay, have you thought about what
you might want?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Cuisine not Italian? Though? Will you be joining us? No?
Speaker 2 (21:51):
No, I will not be joining you, but I will
be paying for you, okay from afar Wow.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
I was just making a wisecrack and I willed this
into existence. This is fantastic. I gotta do this more
off the second time he's done that. There are limitations
to your powers. No, No, let's test it. Let's test it. Okay,
go ahead.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
I need a new car. You should have stopped it.
I need.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I don't do needs. I'm providing just a service for
a convenience. I'm not sure what the parameters are here.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Let me see. I'd like a subscription to the Criterion channel.
Noone else. What's your birthday? It's not till June. But
Early's fine. Early's good. We don't mind. I could use
some new clothes. Replace all my old Cosby sweaters with
something you have Cosby sweaters, tons, tons of them, tons,
with all those weird patterns and prints and lots of pastels,
(22:45):
lots of primary colors. How did you go from that
to all black all the time? I don't know. I
watched the season of Californication and thought I was David
Dukeling or something. I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Did this make you feel like you were more like
Bill Cosby?
Speaker 3 (23:01):
It was before we knew what we call about it. Now,
did you just walk around saying I have five children?
I want to three four? Five children? Just walked around
offering people putting the boss. I just can't stop thinking
of him walking out of David the Company's apartment in
that show.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
There are a lot of things I can't imagine with Mark,
and I don't want to imagine or No.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Now, some of us are more easily suggestible than others.
That's all. See something on TV you think, hey, okay,
I'll do that. Well, let me know what type of
cuisine or food that you want. I can't believe this food?
Can you believe this? It's true. I'm giving you adequate
time to PA. That's pretty cool. Yeah, your spending limit
is twelve dollars. Okay, that's not gonna work unless it's McDonald's.
(23:45):
Even though it may not work. That's these days, that's true.
That's twelve dollars for the both of you. So that's
like four dollars each, not including tax. All right, I'm
gonna have to work on my mental abilities here because
I have not manipulated you sufficiently enough. What you think
you want? Restaurant food? What do you want. I don't
know what our options are here. There's a there's a
(24:07):
pretty good soul food place down the street that we've
had food from before. What's the name of that place?
You talking about Ribs USA? Oh? Yeah, that's good. Yeah, okay, yeah,
they might be open.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
That they might be Okay, tried to go there on
Christmas and they weren't open. So you better check in
with toilet because he goes. They're often enough to know.
And isn't it a tradition that you got to have
black eyed peas on New Year's Eve? That is actually
a true story, And as far as African Americans, that's
a long held tradition that having black eyed peas, at
(24:37):
least on New Year's Day brings you good luck for
the year.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Oh right, Okay, So I'm going to need you to
school me on what as a half black American I
need to be doing. We told you need to have
some chitlins, but you refuse okay, everything apart from the chitlins. Okay,
stop trying to make chitlin's hap. I just answer your questions.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Black eyed peas, okay, black eyed peas for the New Year.
I don't eat black eyed peas, so don't feel obligated.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Even if they're not leftovers, even if they're fresh black eyedeaa.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
I've never liked black eyed peas. I wond there's certain
stuff I just don't eat.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
That's also funny that you have the twelve thing because
my ex she's Colombian and her thing is their thing
is twelve grapes. Twelve grapes. Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
So that's funny that you guys have one too. Yeah,
we all do. Yeah, I'll do, but you gotta let
me know sooner than later. We'll make these arrangements so
you guys can be fed going into the new year.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
That'd be nice. This is magnificent, except for the twelve
dollars limit. I'm gonna I'm gonna pretend I'm Professor X
and work on you for the rest of the night.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
You're gonna have to actually be nicer than me in
the New Year. Well, I didn't know there were conditions.
Attack food is conditional. Foosh, Come on, it's Later with
mo Keli can't I Am six forty live everywhere on
the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from
KFI AM six fortyfi bo Kelly.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Squid Game Season two dropped today. The good news is
it dropped today. The bad news is it's only seven episodes.
It's really short now. The episodes are an hour. Some
of them are a little bit more than an hour.
So you're getting enough content. They didn't cheat us in
(26:25):
a way. They could have given us twelve, let's say,
thirty five minute episodes, and you probably would have thought like, Okay,
they're not giving us enough.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
I'm on episode five. Wow, you're working fast. I am,
I am. I was sitting at home and binging. I
just saw it when I woke up, and I'm like, well,
I know what I'm watching tonight. Let me just say
this if you this is something they did wrong.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
You know how you start a new season and then
there's usually like a previous season recap.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
There's none of that. So it took me a while.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Three member, Oh, that's so and so, or that's that
thread that they're following up on, or that's that storyline
that they're trying to continue.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
It was disconcerting. You must have skipped it, because I
watched the first episode late last night and there was
a yeah short I watched just a couple of seconds
and it had the like last time.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
All I can say is it didn't. It didn't come
up for me. Maybe you go back and see if
like it's too late now fair enough, I'm saying, because
it was noticed amost like I started playing it and
it's just the episode. I don't know why. But if
there is a recaptain, wonderful because you need it. Otherwise,
you really do need it one because there have been
(27:38):
years now good three and a half years in between,
and you may remember how it turned out. But the
intricacy of the storylines in season two, they are direct
references to season one. They're picking up the story directly
from season one. There is a three year time jump,
(27:59):
but they do give you updates on those who survived
or were tangentially connected to the story.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
I don't want to give away anything. So it in
the so is it chronologically like takes place three years
later or they pick it up right where it left off. No,
it takes place three years later. Oh that's cool.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Yeah, you do have that time jump, but they do
let you know what has been happening in the intervening
three years. You're not just you're not just flailing around.
I will say this. It answers the question of if
you knew then what you now know, how would you
(28:38):
apply it to the game. Would you try to help
someone else? Would you be selfish? Would you employ a
different strategy? And if you haven't seen squid Game, you
have to watch it without any help from me. I
don't want to tell you anything about it. If you
were one of the four people who haven't seen any
(29:00):
the world, just go watch it. What's it about? You'll
just have to see. I don't want to I don't
want to give away anything. And I was talking about
this with Wayne Resnink, who was in for Bill Handle
earlier today. Going in, I wasn't sure whether it was
going to have the same type of allure because you
lose all the the secrets and the surprise, or so
(29:25):
I thought. In the first season, you're saying, what is
going on here? What's happening? Oh, this is happening. Oh
it is like that, but it throws some curveballs at you.
You get to see some things that you thought were
going to happen, and it's like no, no, no, no, they're
not They're not going to go down that road this time.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
It's gonna take you down a different road. It's not
just the same old thing over and over again. You've
seen more than I have. But I was impressed with
the first hour long episode, right, so you know what
I mean.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
It's like you think it's going to go one way
and then they give you there's some exposition, you get
to learn more backstory about some characters. But once it
gets into this gallop, I would say it's even more
tense than season one, when everybody knew absolutely nothing what
was going to happen, and the.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Characters have evolved as well. So the main character is
the protagonist of the last season who won last season,
which you know it's been a while, so I think
we can at least spoil that much, yeap, But both
he and the cop who is investigating last season have
undergone some transformations and now they're tirelessly and obsessively trying
(30:34):
to get to the bottom of the secrets involving the game.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Here we go, I would like to extend a heartfelt
welcome to you all. Do you may choose to stay
and continue playing to increase your potential winnings, or choose
to stop the games now and leave the decision He's
entirely up to you.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Whether you're killing innocent people in there, we're praying on
them out here. You know, it doesn't change the damn.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Player four fifty six. What do you want from me?
Speaker 4 (31:20):
I want you to send me in there again.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
I don't want to give anything away, but there's a
lot of action. I don't want to say what type
of action, but there's plenty action. Now, towall, I'm glad
you came in here for this, because how you will
experience Squid Game season two is dependent largely on whether
you're a fan of English or do you want the
(31:58):
dub version or do you want the original Korean?
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Because I'm tripping because it sounds like you just played
in English trail and I'm like, there, I did not
know there was an English language version of the show.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Yes, Yes, I watched all of season one in English?
Speaker 3 (32:12):
What really? Yes? And my Korean is not that good?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
And the reason I did was because but I I
it's distracting to me when I am solely dependent on subtitles.
On the subtitles, yeah, really well done.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Though It's not like those horrible martial arts movies. I
just can't. I just know it's good. I can't go back.
If I've started something and I've started it with English
language subtitle in watching its original Korean die, I can't
go back. It's impossible for me to do so. I
(32:51):
can't look at these characters and hear English. Like I'm
listening to this trailer, I'm like, what is he playing?
I thought they were talking about squid Game? Oh shock
them outside editing and I'm like, what is this? And
to Walt tell me because sincerely like that? For me.
What bothers me more is if I put it the
English dub and their mouths don't match the audio that
(33:11):
you're hearing now, the or the character voices don't match
up what I think they should see. That's the problem.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
If you start like season one in Korean, you've already
then I'll say, internalized their actual voices for you. Then
to start season two with the English voices would probably
be distracting. And also because to Mark's point, as far
as matching up the movement of the mouths to the dialogue,
(33:40):
some things are changed to accommodate that. Yeah, I can't
get too deep into Hangoul in Korean, but the syllables
are not going to match up they're just not going
to match up if you have a strict translation, so
they have to change some of the dialogue in English
(34:02):
to have the mouths and the lips match up. I
also get worried that because they have to what you
just said, or they have to kind of just change
it just slightly, that maybe I'm going to miss something
that I wouldn't have if it was just in the
original language with subtitles.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
Yeah, I don't have that much time, so I mean,
but fosh, oftentimes it's like that. Oftentimes what's being said
in the original language is so much more powerful and
when you even sometimes when you see the subtitles, you're like,
all that that he just said was way more powerful
(34:41):
than what we're reading. So yeah, I couldn't imagine, you know,
watch out for that trap. That's not right, this is wrong?
What is this?
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Well?
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Is this a squad game or something?
Speaker 2 (34:53):
There are some moments of dialogues like well, that was
kind of hokey, kind of over simplistic ways, like we
wouldn't talk that way in English, And that's what.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
I get worried about. But you see season one, right, yes, Okay,
did you watch it in English or Korean? Korean.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Then stick with Korean. I'm being honest, Yes, stick with Korean.
And Mark, did you do season one in Korean or English?
I don't even remember. But the point is reading is hard.
It is what a you're trying to watch, and this
is a show there's a lot going on on screen,
and there's a lot of Easter eggs and clues on screen,
and I'm not trying to read.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Yeah, I hate having to rewind because I've been busy
reading the subtitles, especially when there's a lot of dialogue
and you miss something, And it's true, you guys are
right that you do miss things from the original language,
but you still get the gist of it. I don't
think anything's been changed to such a degree that you
know you're shrown way off.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Let me just say this as we go to break
highly recommend it fifth episode of seven. It's already been
clear for season three. They've already said it is going
to be a third and final season. That for me,
it's a drawback because it limits the amount of steaks
here because there's a season three, so nothing's going to
be completely resolved this season. But I don't think it's
(36:10):
a precipitous drop off from season one, and I was surprised.
I thought it was going to be like, Okay, they're
just mailing it in. Oh, they've run out a story
to tell. No, it's damn good and I don't know
how it's going to turn out. Yes, So let me
know what you guys think. Sometime next week. I am
one hundred in KFI AM six forty. We're live everywhere
