and what could happen in tomorrow night's game one again,
that comes up in twenty minutes. But right now, Chris Plank,

(00:58):
it is time for a staple on The Doug Gottlieb
Show Wednesday, four o'clock Eastern time one Pacific. Smack dab
in the middle of the show, it's time four.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
It's not getting.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
It's time for the midway.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Literally just throwing conversation around to each other like it. Yes,
Chris Plank, Manzi Blanios, Ryan Bershing or John Ramos, myself,
Dan Byer, we're talking NBA playoff runs. Doesn't have to
be the most memorable of what the what the nation
thinks the general consensus, just of your most memorable runs.

(01:39):
And I'll kind of start this off because was so
disappointed to hear that the seventy six ers are getting
their own documentary for their run of the two thousand
and one to the NBA Finals of winning the East,
because it came at the expense of the Milwaukee Bucks,
and I didn't think it was a great magical run
by Philadelphia. The Bucks took to a game seven, had

(02:01):
an opportunity to win the series didn't happen. But it
was in two thousand and one Plank that the Bucks
had gone to a spot that in my lifetime had
never gone before. And it was a fun team. It
wasn't just Glenn Robinson and Ray Allen. Tim Thomas was
a member of that team. Sam Cassell was a member

(02:22):
of that team. They were a fun, fun bunch and
they were really good. They had a great series against
Charlotte in the Eastern Semis. I went to Game one
at the Bradley Center. I still have my towel that
I have from that game. But when you look back,
like to be a part of it. I remember my
buddy and I are like, we got to go to
game one. Bucks beat the Magic in the first round,

(02:43):
or like we got to get tickets. So we were
at the Bradley Center in Game one of the Conference
Semis and for them to get to the Conference finals.
It's one of those things where cell phones weren't popular
at that time, but you were calling your buddies talking
about the game. So the two thousand and one run
to the Eastern Finals for the Milwaukee Bucks one of

(03:04):
my most memorable playoffs.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
So oh one who was the star of the Magic
was that?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
That was gosh that it may have been McGrady.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
I think you're right, yeah, Tracy McGrady, your apps, Tracy
McGrady and Grant Hill.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
That's right. Completely forgot about.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
That the Hornets had mash burn J Brown.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
They yeah, they were really good. They they were. That
series went seven and then the Bucks survived but then
ended up falling to Philadelphia. But that's that's one of
the one of the more memorable runs in my memory
of that was You know what else is memorable from
that in O one? That was Iverson stepping over Lou
Yes in the finals. That was that was the great

(03:47):
shot of Allan Iverson making the three in Tyron lou
just down on the court because he couldn't play freaking defense,
and Alan Iverson stood right. But of course, in fairness,
not many people could play defense against Allan Iverson.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
I like it. Dan, taking me back to two thousand
and one.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, where where do you use your mind? Going the
way show? You want to know what's wild?

Speaker 3 (04:07):
By the way, because now you've got me looking at
the two thousand and one playoffs. The Sixers were the
one seed that year with Ai. Yeah, the one versus
the two seed in the finals. Okay, Listen, I could
go back to I wrote down the nineteen eighty seven Lakers,
but listen, I want to at least get in a
timeframe where it was like within somewhat of the orbit
when Monsey was born, are the bushing or.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Could talk about?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
So, you know what was a really cool playoff run
for me? And I'm not even the biggest thunderfan on
the planet, but when they made the finals in twenty twelve,
whenever it was only their what fourth season in Oklahoma City,
I gotta be honest, that was really cool.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Now I was slow to I think, you know. I
did a radio show in Toulsen.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
We talked about the NBA for years Dan because my
co host, Jimmy Poplin and I were big NBA guys,
and people would call Ny Grinch and Moss like, why
are you guys talking about the NBA year old ball?
Nobody cares. Then all of a sudden, the Thunder come
to town. Everybody's an NBA expert. It's like they didn't
get the bird rides on that guy.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
You know. It's just everyone thinks they know everything.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
But I fell in love with his team in twenty
eleven and twelve because you had Kevin Durant, you had
James Harden, you had Russell Westbrook, you had Nick Collison,
and they really it was the It was four years right,
it's like college, and because we were still very much
in a college mindset, so you're like, oh, so all
these guys senior year, let's go, we got a team.

(05:32):
So I loved that run. They ended it for the Lakers.
They beat the Spurs in six and got absolutely smoked
in Game one. I want to say, Surge even got hurt,
and yet they came back and found a way. So yeah,
I know that it's not it's not a run that
ended in a championship, but that was an incredible run.

(05:53):
And then I would I would throw the run that
they had a couple of years later when they got
knocked out by the Spurs and they beat sorry manse
the Clippers in fourteen. That was incredible that first round series.
Had a seven game series with Memphis in twenty fourteen
to Oklahoma City and Reggie Jackson had this incredible game.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
I mean, it was wild. So I can't.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Believe I'm using not the Lakers here and talking about
this in the Thunder, but the twenty twelve finals run
and the twenty fourteen Conference finals run was pretty incredible.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Now, Manzi does have the sixers jacket from two thousand
and one. I do do you have any Thunderjackets from
twenty twelve.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
I do not.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
I do not.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
So it's so crazy that Chris Plank brought up this
particular year because it wasn't great for the Clippers. But
right when you mentioned this to me, like think of
like a good playoff run. I thought of the Clippers
come back against the Grizzlies in Game one of that
playoff series where we were down twenty seven at one point,
but with eight minutes left we were down twenty four

(06:57):
points and the Clippers had the greatest comeback. It was
lob City twenty twelve, and we went all the way
to Game seven.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
You know, one time, Dan, you were.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
Like, you don't hate the Warriors.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
You don't think there's like.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
A you know, a rivalry, And I was like, no,
to me, the rivalry with.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
The Clippers is the Grizzlies. Like I hated the Grizzlies,
I was.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
Like, I can. Every single time they came or we
went to play them, it was always down to the wire.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
It was intense a fight.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
You were like, someone's gonna fight, It's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
That series.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
I will never forget it. And then we went on
to get swept by the Spurs. But whatever, that series,
twenty four points down, eight minutes left, and we ended
up winning, I believe by one.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
It was crazy.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
The cool thing of being a Clippers and Bucks fan
is like the ninety and two thousands, it's not much
to pick from, Like, yeah, problem, it's like that year
and then that year and everything else is just whatever.
All right, John Ramos, are you going to carry the
purple and gold card? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (07:58):
I love how Monsie said it wasn't a good year
for the Clippers. And I'm trying to think of which
one was it for.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
The Clippers violence this morning.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
I didn't know that, Montee.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
I'll give you a year where the team actually won
the NBA Finals, and that was in nineteen eighty five
when the Lakers, well, it doesn't matter if you were born,
it was the Lakers had never beaten the Boston Celtics
in the NBA Finals, and in that year, not only
did they beat the Celtics, but they beat them on
their home court. And after that was up to what
they call the Memorial Day massacre. The Lakers lost by

(08:31):
thirty five points in Game one. Yes, and after that,
Creme dul Jabbari said no more of that, and the
Lakers went on to win on Boston's home court in
their face. Nineteen eighty five. I was fifteen years old
and loved every minute of it.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
You know what's wild about that?

Speaker 3 (08:45):
You bring up to a Memorial Day massacre, the thirty
four point lost, the Lakers turned around and won Game
three by twenty five.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I mean, it's just the NBA playoffs.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Sometimes when you look back to the history of it, it
makes absolutely positively no sense. Now Ramos ref refreshed. My
memory was eighty five, the year where Magic hab the
sweet little hook shot when he was going through the lane?
Or was that eighty seven? I think it was eighty five.

Speaker 7 (09:09):
Believe I believe it was eighty five. Yeah, yeah, the
baby hook. They called it baby hook. Ryan Burschinger our
executive producer. So I'll go with a.

Speaker 8 (09:20):
Little bit more recent history here and the money.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
That game seven.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
In twenty three what was longer?

Speaker 5 (09:38):
No, So I was.

Speaker 8 (09:39):
I was employed by Fox Sports Radio, started my job
here in twenty fifteen, and I was editing in the
finals for twenty sixteen, for twenty seventeen, for twenty eighteen,
and of course those finals were all between the same
two teams as it was in twenty fifteen when it
was the Warriors Cabs every year, and for me as
a sports fan in general, like, of course, I respect

(10:02):
the dominance, I respect the dynasties, but it was getting
boring having the monotony of the same two teams. So
we go into the twenty nineteen season and it's just
to the point where you're like, you know who's gonna
be playing in this finals, you know who's gonna win,
And the Toronto Raptors come through and they make it
out of the East. It could have been the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, that was so awesome, but I thought it.

Speaker 8 (10:27):
Was It was extra for me. It was fun to
finally see somebody else get a turn. And of course, yes,
the Warriors had plenty of injuries in the postseason and
that kind of muddied the dialogue around the series as
it was going. But in hindsight, I mean, history will
always have the Raptors winning that finals, and so for me,

(10:50):
I think it was nice to see somebody new and
it was a nice reminder for me as a sports fan,
They're like, hey, anything can happen. We don't have to
have the same two teams every season, and since then,
it's been very different outside of you know, of course
the Warriors winning last year, but it's it was a
nice way to break up that dominance.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Bucks were up to all in that series of the
Eastern Finals and then Toronto ended up winning four straight.
I'll give you a guys, a personal story and another
Laker fans here will not appreciate the outcome of this.
But whenever I get asked and Plank, you've been in
the business for a long time, I'm sure all of

(11:31):
us like, what's your favorite memory or you know, what
was the best part about your job. In two thousand
and eight, I was covering the NBA Finals, which was
Lakers Celtics, and because we're based in southern California, it
was also going on the same week as the US
Open at Torrey Pines, and the I was in Boston

(11:52):
for a couple for Games one and two, and then
games three and four were the Tuesday Thursday in LA
and the Celtics and Lakers ended up splitting. So it's
it's three to one Boston and it comes down to
game five, and there's now the question you have to
realize this is final around to the US Open is

(12:12):
on the Sunday and also Game five. So what happens
on the Sunday? Tiger makes the putt to force the
playoff with rock O Media. I then have to watch
the game that night to find out if I'm going
to Boston after the playoff on Monday or I'm just
driving home. Ends up Lakers win, forcing a Game six.
So in about a thirty six to forty eight hour

(12:35):
period on one coast, I saw Tiger Woods win the
US Open in a nineteen hole playoff hopped on. Actually
I drove up to my place, emptied out my suitcase
from staying in San Diego, loaded it up, hop the
overnight red eye flight to Boston, and then watched the
Celtics beat the Lakers the next night. So in like
thirty six hours, you see Tiger win what he did,

(12:56):
and not only not only it wasn't a Raptor's Warrior
final or sorry, Nuggets final, it was a Celtics Lakers final.
That is the highlight of my broadcasting career. When you're
talking about, you know, seeing greatness. Yeah, it's crazy, so
so fortunate.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Did you lose any luggage in this process or any
clothing items?

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Were you smooth? Because that's a pretty rapid pucking packing
up there.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Truly just dumped it out, grabbed clean clothes from the
drawer because I had a flight to catch, and I
had a flat a Long Beach, which I know nobody
really cares about, but like, I lived up in West
La Santa Monica, and so I had not just go
to lax And and I had to go to Long Beach.
And then you know, I remember I landed at like
six am in Boston and I'm like, what am I

(13:40):
doing here? And then that game six that night was
just a party because it was an absolute blowout. But
I still say it fueled the Lakers to their back
to back having Kobe sit there and watch Boston celebrate.
Moncey has got a little uh you wanna you want
to jump in? Oh, nope, she's done. Monty is done. First,
she's done. Clank you done, I'm done.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
I'm good.

Speaker 9 (14:03):
It was very little.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Lebron talk in that, you know, except you know, Plank
bringing up the thunder and then burst. I'm sick of
seeing Lebron face the warriors of that.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
I would though, you know, it was kind of funny
whenever you guys brought up this idea. Earlier in the day,
I started doing this wild thing called research, and I
think I might fight that the twenty sixteen playoffs in
general were just some of the most exciting playoffs that
we've had. Right, So if you don't just say a

(14:36):
team like you bringing up the Bucks and oh one,
I'm bringing up the two thunder runs Moncey bringing up
the Clippers the Raptors, I just I would say in
twenty sixteen, if we stepped back, and I know it's
pretty recent, but you know, every game, every series seemed
to have so much drama. You had the the a

(14:56):
three to one comeback by the by the Cavaliers with
Lebron and Kyrie. He had some wild conference finals, so base,
I mean, the Warriors came back from three to one
in the Conference finals. So I was kind of thinking,
not just a team, but Dan I might be willing
to fight and die.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
On the hill. The twenty sixteen as a whole were
the best NBA.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Playoffs, soh yeah, I don't remember a more anticipated game
than that Game seven the oh.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
My gosh, yes.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
And then lived up to its billing and no one
scored except Kyrie. You know, like in the last five minutes.
It's just trading defense and defense and then Lebron's block, which,
by the way, still you asked, what's the what's the
signature moment of Lebron's career? Yeah, I think it is.
He's Chris Plank. I'm Dan Byer Blank on Twitter at

We know the success that the Broncos have had in
the past. How is the city of Denver embracing this
Nuggets run well? Head to the Mile High City next
here on Fox Sports Radio. Thanks for listening to The

Doug Gotlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan Byer.
He's Chris Plank sitting in for Doug. Today's We're live
from the Tirak dot com studios. We're going to take
our swings coming up in about twelve minutes or so.
But now we head on over to the Mile High City.
Friend of the show, who you can hear in Denver
on KOA fifty am and ninety four point one FM
in Denver, and you can heck you can see him here.

(17:02):
You can hear Charles Barkley talk about him on Inside
the NBA. The one and Only Brandon Christal joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. BK, how's it going.

Speaker 9 (17:10):
It's going good. This is actually perfect timing because the
Heat are just wrapping up their media day availability the
Nuggets practiced, then talked, then the heat talked, and are
now practicing. And during this open part of the practice,
I'm sitting high at top Ball Arena in the hockey
box and chat with you guys until they kick me
out of here in exactly twenty minutes. I doubt we'll

(17:31):
go that long, of course, but literally perfect timing. As
I'm watching, I can see Tyler Zeller's bald spot from
all the way Cody Seller, whichever's Eller brother, that is,
from all the way out in the rafters here, I
can see Cody Zeller's bald spot. I'm sitting very close
to the Danissel, David Thompson Alex English jersey numbers that
hang in the rafters as well, so and I can

(17:54):
see the Avalanche ones off in the distance. Real questions, Well,
the Nuggets get to add a first ever championship banner
to these rafters.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
How has the city We know, the Broncos, I mean,
we know what they mean to that town, but on
the heels of what the Avalanche did last year, I'm
not even gonna bring the Rockies up, but how have
they embraced this Nuggets team and where do they sit
kind of in the in the city power rankings of
teams they love as.

Speaker 9 (18:21):
Good as the Avalanche are in their championship window. As
Eric Johnson, who may not be back but a Vet
who's been around forever, said, as long as Nathan McKinnon
and cal McCarry here their championship windows wide open. Well,
this is still a Nuggets town first, right. The Avs
got here in ninety six from Quebec, won a championship
right away with Joe sak At Competer Forsberg and company.
And so there are hockey fans, and just like all

(18:41):
of us no hockey fans, hockey fans, first of all,
are very territorial. Basketball one is a little more welcoming too.
We've all played it and it's in some ways easier
to fix. Right. So, while the Broncos certainly sit highest
atop the mountain in terms of sports fanship rankings, and
there's a good gap, the Nuggets are still second. And
then I guess you put the Apps because they're so

(19:03):
much better, so much more relevant than the Rockies. But
they're still gonna draw a big crowded course field every
year to watch the Rockies and whoever they might be playing,
especially with now the Yankees or Red Sox coming in
every year, plus Dodgers, Cubs, Cards, everybody else, but the
Nuggets have always been second in the I've been here
seventeen eighteen years now, and the Nuggets have firmly been
second in the hearts and minds of the average Denver

(19:25):
sports fan. And so we've seen some good runs the
OH nine team with Mellow and Chauncey where they kept
handing the ball to Trevor ariz On inbounds plays and
lost to the Western Conference Finals.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
There.

Speaker 9 (19:35):
We saw him in twenty twenty lose to the Lakers
again in the bubble in the Western Conference Finals, going
back to the eighties, losing to the Lakers with Alex
English and Isssel like I mentioned in eighty five, and
so they slayed that dragon of getting past the Lakers,
and then with a nine day build up to the championship.
There are pop up stands on every corner. It seems
like at every gas station plus all of your normal

(19:56):
retail outlets, there is Nuggets gear everywhere in this town.
Is at a fever pitch in the t ticket prices
are reflecting that because it's their first ever trip to
the finals. So this town is ready to explode, ready
to have another parade, and I can't wait to see
how electric it is in this building tomorrow night, Brandon.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Does it frustrate you or do you think it's kind
of become almost gimmicky how people act like they're surprised
that Yokitch is good. I'm just it's not like this
is your one or two of him being good. He's
back to back MVP winner, probably should have won it
this year. It's not his first year in the league.
But yeah, people are like, oh my gosh, this guy's incredible.

(20:30):
Does it ever get frustrating how overlooked It seems like
he's been consistently by NBA fans and to a certain degree,
the NBA media.

Speaker 9 (20:38):
Well, Chris, I think it's more the NBA media than
the NBA fans. The NBA fans are at the mercy
of whatever highlight show they might be watching or the
internet right and whatever you know, highlight they might see
on an Instagram page or Twitter or whatever it may be.
But it's when people and I'm not trying to pick
on Lisa Salters, who's great at her job, but she
was on rich Eyson. A couple of weeks ago and said, man,
this is the first time I've really watched Nicole Yo

(20:58):
Kitch play and you're wait a second. I understand she's
busy in the fall, but the fact that she's never
really watched a Joker play in some ways isn't her fault.
Although they are on NBA TV and certainly TNT enough, right,
We've seen enough clips of Joker goofing around with Shaq
and Chuck and Kenny that you can watch them if
you want to watch them. At the same time, it's

(21:19):
it's a highlight driven league and certainly medium, right. So
John Morant doing what he does, or even the Warriors,
who maybe play differently but knocking down threes from you know,
eight feet behind the line like Steph Curry's done and
reshaped the game in so many ways, Joker just plays
the right way. And there it's funny because Michael Malone
compared him to Tim Duncan, and Joker doesn't mind that comparison.
He's really funny, really sarcastic and and loves basketball. But

(21:43):
he's not out there on commercials. He at the All
Star Game, he says, this game is not for me, right,
because he's supposed to play basketball the right way. But
when you hear the way Kevin Durant talks about him,
in the way Lebron James talks about him, and how
great they see his game, his all around game, and
then you watch him playing, you're like, oh, I get it.
He's got an easy twenty five thirty points. Oh, he

(22:03):
also has twelve assists, and because he's seven foot and
understandable where the ball comes off for how to block out,
he'll go with, you know, easily twelve fourteen, sixteen rebounds
on a given night. That's why he's averaging a triple
double in these playoffs. So it's less surprising about fans,
more surprising that media, whether they're saying this isn't an
exciting team, and that's fine, I get it. There's not
a lot of drama like there might be with other teams,
and he's not a flashy star. But he is a

(22:25):
hell of a basketball player and for not just my money,
but a lot of people's money, the best player playing
basketball right now. And then on the other side, Jimmy
Butler might be second on that list. So it's going
to be a heck of a heck of a series
in that regard to see the two best playoff players
going at it for you know, four or five, six
or seven games.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Brandon Christahl joining us here on the Doug Gottliebs Show.
He's live in Denver. He's Chris Plank. I'm Dan Byer,
sitting in for Doug today live fromthetirec dot Com studios.
You said you just heard from the heat. Is there
any lingering effects from this quick turnaround after playing Monday
night and now heading to Denver? Was that an issue
at all?

Speaker 9 (23:02):
When Eric Spolstra didn't want to entertain that one bit,
and then he's like, look, they start to come to
Miami too, and we're happy to turn the air off
in the building which is now just referred to as
I believe Miami Dade Arena after Tom brady in Check's
crypto investment didn't go great apparently so I've read. But

(23:22):
I don't know if they'll actually do that, because the
fans are paying their money. They not love it, but
if they do it, they do it. At the same time, Look,
the elevation can be a real deal playing a mile
above sea level, but these guys to their advantage, assuming
that they aren't overly banged up, and you know, Jimmy
Butler's dealing with whatever ankle thing he's dealing with, and
he didn't even really want to get into that when
he was asked about it, he downplayed it. And same

(23:44):
with their expulsives. Like, you know, these guys are in
phenomenal shape and they've been playing a lot of basketball.
The Nuggets have been all since last Monday, so there's
that worry about rust. But at the same time, in
Game one against the tee Wolves in the opening round,
they ran them out of the building. They ran the
Suns out of the building, and they had the Lakers
on the ropes. So we know that Lebron and Ad
gave it a go, but they still squeaked out.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
We game won. And then when they came back.

Speaker 9 (24:05):
Here from two days two games in Phoenix, they ran
the Suns out of the gym again in Game five
of that second round series. So it'll be interesting to
see is fatigue a factor and or is the layoff
a factor. You know, we joked about the Rockies, but
a lot of people blame the Rockies having a full
week off all the way back in O seven when
they swept the Phillies and I think it went back

(24:26):
to backs for the Phillies and the Diamondbacks and had
so much time off before they played the Red Sox.
Now I don't think they were as good a team,
So there's that. But I don't know if the altitude
will come into play a lot, but it likely will
early and by Sunday they'll be adjusted. At the same time,
I do think that you can't just ignore it, or
you could do what my favorite coach in basketball, Bill
Self told the Morris Twins when KU came into play

(24:48):
in Boulder. He said, don't worry. The doors are closed,
so the altitude won't affect you, and K you won
that game, So I guess it worked.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
Hey, real quick before I let you go?

Speaker 9 (24:58):
All right?

Speaker 3 (24:58):
At least a final thought for MEBK. I love the
X Factor conversation, right, X Factor surprise player is Contavious
Caldwell Pope potentially the X factor in this series.

Speaker 9 (25:09):
He could be It's hard to really identify one X factor, right,
And I thought Jimmy Butler had a good good comment
following Game seven when they talked about role players, and
he said, I don't call him role players. I call
them teammates. So we can call them whatever we want.
Where the Nuggets have been able to succeed is it's CACP.
One game, it's Bruce Brown. Another it might be Jeff

(25:30):
Green hitting a big shot. It's Michael Porter Junior maybe
going above not what his salary says he should score,
but what his averages are to some degree, or Aaron
Gordon with a big outburst in Game four offensively, and
so I think depending on how they can slow Jimmy
Butler down and how many different looks they'll throw at him,
beyond just Aaron Gordon, and that certainly will be KCP

(25:51):
and Bruce Brown at times. I think CACP can be
an X factor, but the Nuggets quality depth of their
top seven guys, and when they play Jayhawk legend Christian
Brown in.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
The limited minutes, he always goes back to Kansas.

Speaker 9 (26:03):
But certainly they're not gonna go much deeper than that,
even though they've got not only vets like Is Schmid
and DeAndre Jordan, but younger guys that might expect to
play to you know, Reggie Jackson and they traded for
Thomas Bryant. Those guys just haven't played in the playoffs
much other than you know in mop up time, and
so I don't want to sit here Chris and say, yeah,
kcp'll be an X factor or Max Struce will be
an X factor. I think that both teams, you know,

(26:25):
they have their top guys, and I guess, you know,
BAM and Caleb Martin maybe alternate that a little bit,
certainly with how Caleb Martin played. But to just say, Okay,
it's gonna be KCP, I guess it's probably worth throwing
a couple of nickels down if you want to go
long shot on MVP odds. But looking at that today,
even if you just drop down to Jamal Murray, he's
plus fourteen hundred, so that might be worth worth looking at.

(26:46):
So CASEYP certainly could be. But I'll be hard pressed
to think that you'll say anyone beyond Joke or Jamal
Murray and Jimmy but are the real reason either of
these teams win this series?

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Does Danny Manning vacation in Denver? You want to get that, Jay,
You've got a Bill salf we gotta.

Speaker 9 (27:02):
I don't know, and maybe we'll see COACHLLL. Maybe we'll
see him here. I don't know if'll see Danny Manning.
Hopefully we'll see some nuggets legends, you know, like I said,
mentioned David Thompson, danisl their names are in the rafters.
It'll be interested to see. With their first trip to
the finals, are they inviting people back? Obviously Chelsey has
a job in Portland, but he spends a part of
the summer here. Will Will Carmelo who just retired, Will
Carmelo be here? Will they have any plans to bring

(27:22):
some of these guys back and honor them. I know
tickets are hard to come by, but I'm sure they
can find spots for some of those guys, like they
brought George carl back in the Lakers series and featured
featured him a little bit. So it's gonna be a
fun certainly, a fun series, a fun few weeks, and
folks around here like my kids. I hope they have
another parade to go to.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Brandon, good stuff, enjoy the Finals. We love having you on.
Have a good time. We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 9 (27:47):

Yeah You're not the R. Brandon was the only one
that's in a booth doing this show right now. You
are in a booth in Oklahoma City.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
That's right? Can you tell?

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Can you? Can you let us all in on why
Chris Plank is in a booth today for The Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Show Because Dan Byer, I wanted to not only celebrate
my school, the University of Oklahoma, but Doug's school. Are
our tribals, the Oklahoma State Cowboys and in this case
of cow Girls and their participation in the Women's College
World Series for softball eight teams.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
It's going to be a wild day.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Tomorrow starts at eleven am, the final game's first p
which is at eight. I've been the play by play
voice for the Sooners since twenty sixteen. In fact, I
see home run Queen Jocelyn Allo walking around the concourse here.
So yeah, it's been a fun ride, dude. Ever since
I took over, they started winning championships. Not trying to
say I'm the reason, but four in the last seven years,

(29:19):
looking to make it three straight. Maybe there's some secret
sauce here. I don't know for the Oklahoma Sooners. But
it's a great event, man, You'll love watching it. It's
high energy and it's a fast moving game.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
A lot of people love watching it. And that's the thing.
And John Romins and I were even talking the other
day about this, and John's a softball coach and so
he loves the sport. It's just how crazy, how organically
this is. John's a softball coach. Yes, yes, just wrapped
up John. You want to tell him the record on
the past.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
Two six Chris, Okay, we don't have forty eight games
in college.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
It's a start. It's a start.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Yeah, we get about twenty games in high school.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
So yeah. Julie South Pass JV.

Speaker 7 (29:59):
Was this correct, like the JV program there, and we
had a great time and I totally watch all the
College World Series. Loved DeBie Minott saw that big game
against Oklahoma UCLA well was it was pitted as a
big game and it was a blowout by Oklahoma. But yeah,
Oklahoma is everything and more for this season. I can
it's there to lose, right, Chris, I've been pretty much.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
I mean that's when you have a team that comes
in has been number one all year long, you know,
the maybe their biggest threat is on the other side
of the bracket.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Yeah, it's it's theirs when.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
But there's good teams here, Dan, the Tennessee Volunteers, the
Lady Balls are good. Florida State, Oklahoma State really good.
Oh you open tomorrow morning. It's Stanford who as the
freshman of the year in the circles.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
So this fun. What's fun.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
What I think is interesting though is even though Oklahoma
is this juggernaut, I don't believe that that is well known.
What ends up happening, though, is because the event is
so intriguing. And I think you get this with the
College World Series on the baseball side, little League World Series.
You know, in late August, people tune in and then

(31:07):
you end up finding out what are the stories? So
then so you're sucked in for whatever reason and that's
it's so organic that that's why I find it great.
And then you attach yourself to the Oklahoma story, whether
you want the Sooners to prevail or you want to
see someone you know have that upset, and it's just
it's great to see when things happen organically because a

(31:29):
lot of times you try to push things. Heck, even
in the NBA and trying to push this finals onto
people in trying to get them a reason to watch.
This stuff happens organically, and I feel that it's done
that with women's softball.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
And anything can happen.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
You've got the eight best teams in college softball, you
have one pitcher get hot, as John Ralmas can tell you,
you get one pitture hot, next thing you know, your
shut out and the game's over because it moves so quick.
So the organic side of it is so true. I
know there's probably a very small percentage of our audience
who has even.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Watched a full game this year, But I'd give you
the challenge.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Give it a give it a watch, give it an eye,
give it a listen this week, and however you would
would consume it, I think you'll be at least intrigued
by it, and it sets a table for a fun
diamond sports month. In college sports, Women's College World Series.
You know, next week is super regional playing in college
baseball into the College World Series in Omaha. So it's

(32:26):
a fun couple of weeks for diamond sports. And it
starts right here in the softball capital of the world.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
The four oh five. Let's go there it is. Plank's
going to be on the call, so you will, you

Flank by your team? I'm gonna say, correct, yeah, correct?

Speaker 5 (35:28):
Okay? What is longer? The height of the pictures mound
or a medium pizza? Okay, height of.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
What the height of a pictures mound is ten inches.
The average medium pizza size is twelve inches.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Thinking the height, Sorry.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
But I said, I said high have you have?

Speaker 1 (35:58):

Speaker 4 (36:00):
It's like three feet tall?

Speaker 1 (36:02):
So good?

Speaker 5 (36:03):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (36:04):
What is longer?

Speaker 6 (36:06):

Dodgers put at the coliseum when they first moved to
La good question.

Oh she's a plank and buy our team. You don't

Baby Days Were Alive is still on and so is
General Hospital.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
