Unmatch selection, fast free shipping, free road has protection over
ten thousand recommending sallars tyrect dot com. That's the way
tire buying should be. We got a great midway discussion
to get to. We'll do that in about fifteen minutes. Plus.

(00:47):
We got the press and we got the updates from
that Padres game that that of course, uh Danie Jeremiah
couldn't get enough of. But I've I've been on this,
I've been banging this drum, and I haven't always been right. Okay,
Like I do realize that I term it a hypothesis,
not a theory. These are not proven facts. I'm just

(01:09):
it feels like the sport has gone through a dramatic change,
and it feels like some of the reasons for some
of the failures of some of the teams in this
sport is because they have not been slow to change.
But you know, they were built for a different era.
So who undid those things the right way? Who won
the trade deadline? And what's the forecast looking like here

(01:32):
for the stretch run? Because and again I'm not trying
to be fake with all of you guys. You know,
when football kicks around, we're everybody becomes a football show.
But I don't know. The baseball thing is interesting this year,
especially with the Shoho Tani and the reported deals that
were offered for show. Hey for more on that. John

(01:54):
Paul Morosi joins us Fox Sports. Oh he hasn't joined
us yet. Okay, you know what, also, we got to
get to that. We haven't We were gonna go. I
don't know if we have time in the pod. Did
you guys see all these betting allegations against the starting
quarterback at Iowa State. I mean, that's nuts. We haven't

(02:16):
seen that since Arch Schleister at Ohio State. Buyer. When
Byer even hears the name arch Sleister, like I can
see like a sheepish grin. Because if you're old, if
you're if you're old enough to remember, uh, the the
arch Sleister thing. We'll get to that upcoming. John Palm

(02:37):
Morosi joins us here on the Doug Gotlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Again, things can change, players can improve,
a lot of things can happen. Just top of mind,
who do you think they did the best of the
trade deadline?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Good everydon? Doug? A great question, because I think a
lot of teams improved themselves, and I may give you
a bit of a non traditional land here. I like
the Angels. I like the Angels because they did right
by their fans. They found a way to strengthen their
club around Showy Otani and take one last one at
this thing with number seventeen on their team. I know

(03:15):
of is a pretty compelling argument that maybe they should
have just hit the reset button and could have gotten
for show Ay in that situation. But I think in general, Doug,
they did the right thing, So I love what they did.
The Dodgers might be an arm short. Obviously, they hoped
to get at Warda Rodriguez. They weren't able to make
that deal done there with the Tigers at the final buzzer.

(03:36):
So I do think the Angels improve themselves. I think
in the American League it's hard not to like what
the Astros did. You get Justin Verlander and you throw
a no hitter on the same day, that's a pretty
good day as far as I'm concerned. And I think
the Blue Jays as well. To look at the totality
of what they did, they needed to find a way
to fortify their infield with the injury to Bo Baschet

(03:57):
that bringing Paul de Young, they wanted to add one
more leave her to their bullpen. They did that with
Jordan Hicks. So those are a few teams that have
stent out to me as being winners of at the DEADLFE.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
What's your read into this story in the Athletic that
Max Schuers are asked the front office if next year
was next year they reload, and they said, no, it's
a transitional year. What's you're reading to that.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, there's a couple different ways to look at it,
and number one is that obviously the Mets they liked
the idea of I think having a bit of a
reboot here and buying back better prospects by being able
to pay down the salaries of both Max ers Or
and Justin Verlander. And I expect that was a very
authentic assessment of where the Mets are right now, and

(04:42):
then they're going to take a year to pivot and
gather themselves a bit after what's been a very disappointing year.
I think that Doug to me. We've always wondered what
it would look like if an owner was able to
potentially use his or her financial might to quicken the
pace of a rebuild or a reboot. The Mets are

(05:03):
doing this right now. How many times in sports have
we seen a team that clearly does not work from
a chemistry standpoint and they have to live with that
uncomfortability for a period of years. What the Mets are
doing here is hastening that process and getting themselves to
a younger, more athletic version. I think it would be
unrealistic to expect that after such a disappointing season with

(05:26):
the same veteran players that next year would be better.
When your rotation is fronted by forty year old right Anders,
it just would be a little bit of a tough ask.
The difficult thing for the Mets, though, is I'll make
two points here. Number One, all the money they've spent,
they still haven't signed Pete Alnzo, their own guy. He's

(05:46):
still not signed long term. The second part is, at
no point in time in the last seventy two hours
have I said to myself, Wow, the moves they've made
have improved the situation for them to sign showing Tani
this offseason. Nothing that I've seen here has made this
made this look like a more appealing place for him
to play. So the idea was pay down a lot

(06:10):
of the contract, bring back better prospects, and then sign
show A. That final step, to me, Doug does not
square with the reality of what show as likely to
be looking at this offseasons.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
the voice of John Morosi, our MLB inside. Of course,
you see him on the MLB Network as well as
covering the sidelines on Fox. Doug Gottlieb Show here on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. Okay, Verlander
back in Houston, what's the you know he's pitched well

(06:42):
here the last month and a half. What what are
their expectations for him down the stretch run.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Well, he's not missing quite as many baths as he
once did, and that is that is one thing that
the strikeout rate is maybe not what it was at
his peak. But to look at his last seven starts,
Doug and Era under two and the Astros are expecting
him in many ways to slide right back into the
role that he had for them in last year's postseason,

(07:10):
which which again he was an ace, number one type
pitcher last year, but he Hanson struggled in the playoffs
as well, and they still won the World Series. So
I look at him as someone that can soak up
a lot of innings in a playoff game, obviously has
done it many times in his career. And it's almost
the best of both worlds because while he's been gone,

(07:32):
the Astros' younger starters and specifically JP France, have become
more polished at the major league level. You've seen Farmer
Valdez take the next step and he pitched like an
ace last night. Christian Hobber. They still look to with
someone that can help them out a lot in the playoffs.
So it's almost as though by him being away for
half a year, the Astros did two things. Number One,

(07:55):
they got him at a much lower rate because the
Mets are paying down now is the stage amount of
the salary. And in the meantime, a lot of the
younger starters in that rotation have matured and become even
more capable of shouldering a significant load in the course
of the postseason. So the Astros have to like their chances. Obviously,
the very competitive American League West, You've got the Rangers

(08:17):
who brought in Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery, so they've
done their homework as well. The Angels have gotten better.
It's going to be a great race to the finish,
and I think the Astros have to like their chances
to be Baseball's first repeat champion in more than twenty years.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Lancelyn get slit up last night. What do we make
of what the Dodgers did and didn't do well?

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I think that Lynn is someone who is vulnerable to
outings like the one that we saw last night. He
is he is not a dominant pitcher. Sometimes with his
fastball he's able to overwhelm guys, and he had some
very high strikeout number games earlier on this season. But
he is He is not an ace pitcher. He is

(08:59):
not Clayton Kershaw on his prime. He is not even
what the Dodgers thought they were getting in Eduardo Rodriguez
is He's death. And this is the one part of
the Dodger rotation that gives me a little bit of pause.
Who in this group can you mark down and say
we're going to get seven innings from him in a
postseason game. We haven't really seen that from this current

(09:23):
cast of Dodger starters they have gone in the postseason.
You think about the way they've utilized Gonsolin and Dustin
May in recent years, or even Kenta Maaida before you
think about the injury history of Julio urrias the injury
history of Clayton Kershaw. This year, they've relied a lot
on some of the younger arms. San and Miller come

(09:43):
to mind. They're going to probably have to do the
same thing here going forward to where it's more of
a committee approach than relying on a couple of aces.
I think the Braves rotation right now is a little
bit ahead of where the Dodgers are. The Braves expect
to get Max Freed back they've got a reliable starter
and Charlie Morton. So I think if we're if we're

(10:03):
looking at the big picture here, the Braves right now,
I like their everyday players a little bitter than the Dodgers,
and I like their rotation better as well. It's going
to be quite a matchup in the NLCS if things
keep trending in that direction.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Okay, but what happened in the trade that never was.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
It's a great question and a very compelling one. I
think that so as you're as you're asking you at
Water Rodriguez, there was a trade agreement in principle, and
quite simply, the Tigers and Dodgers could not convince Edward
Rodriguez to waive his no trade cause he had protection
to ten teams, the Dodgers were one of them. He

(10:47):
had the right to turn down a deal and did.
Now at some point along in the process, I think
it's possible that the Tigers had, either directly or indirectly,
given the impression that the Dodgers were a place that
EDWARDO would at least consider going to, because you would
not have gone down the road, and that to that

(11:09):
extent and that detail of the negotiation three hours before
the deadline without at least having some confidence that he
would have accepted a deal, but in fact he didn't
and so on. Once that deal was rejected with a
couple hours before the deadline, there just wasn't enough time
for there to be an amount of re establishment of

(11:29):
the market, of there being more substantial trade conversations at
that point in time. And so in the end, Eduardo
stayed put in Detroit. I think, is it possible that
he'll eventually stay there and resign or not opt out?
Suppose as possible. But the Tigers right now are fearful
that they've lost a lot of their leverage because doug
one thing about Edroaralo Rodriguez is because he was already

(11:52):
given the qualifying offer by the Boston Red Sox, he
is ineligible for the qualifying offer now. And the reason
why the Tigers had such an effort towards towards trying
to trade him yesterday was that if you don't have
an extension in place, you risk losing him for nothing
this winter and right now, that is one of the
menu of choices for the Tigers. Unfortunately for Detroit fans.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Why doesn't why didn't want to go the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
So I think there are some family reasons there. Doug,
he had missed about two months of last year on
the restricted list, so we just gave up salary because
of a family situation that he wanted to attend to
for his personal family reasons. He makes his home in
South Florida, and I think he did not want to
be on the opposite side of the country from his family,

(12:38):
which obviously is his right collectively bargained. From a competitive standpoint,
a baseball fan might correctly say, Wow, it's a chance
to chase a ring with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and
who wouldn't want to do that? And that's a fair point.
But there are no trade clauses. Exists for a reason,
and we all can understand family reasons often supersede those

(12:59):
professional concerns, and that was the case for Edwater Rodriguez
and his family yesterday.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Let's circle back to the Angels. What are the expectations
on Mike Traut's return.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Well, they believe he's coming back at some point in
the next couple of weeks. The dates certain has not
been established, but they do believe he'll be back relatively soon,
and that's going to be a huge boost for the Angels.
They've played pretty good baseball, Doug in recent weeks. They're
maybe not going to challenge for a division title, but
they've got a chance now in the wild card, and notably,

(13:29):
as of yesterday, they had passed the New York Yankees
at least temporarily in the AL wildcard standings. While the
Yankees struggle to score runs, the Angels have moved up
steadily in the standings, and I'm pretty impressed by the
way they've played. And I do think that keeping Otani
sent a bunch of positive vibes to that clubhouse. Bringing
in Giolito and Lopez did the same, and then they

(13:51):
made the trade for Crone and Gritchik, and on Monday,
Crone and Gritchik were a key reason why they beat
the best team in the National League in the Atlanta Braves.
So it may not work. It may not work in
the end, Doug, that they make the playoffs, but I
do think there is something to be said for doing
something your fans want to see, and what the Angel
fans want to see is number seventeen playing on a

(14:13):
contending team at the very least and they hope a
playoff team, which I think at the very least you'll
be seeing the Angels playing for something in the final
ten days of the season, which they have not done
in quite a long time.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
That's John Paul Morosi, Fox Sports Radio, MLB insider and
of course a reporter for the MLB Network. John, You're
the best. Really appreciate you joining us.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Thanks Doug. My pleasure has been a fun few weeks,
and now we get to take our attention away from
the moves and back on the field of play, which
I'm excited about. So it sounds great.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Doug Gollip Show rolls on Fox Sports Radio. I found
this to be interesting. Get to the midway and one
second after we get to Dan Buyer's update. But you know,
Jordan Love obviously starting quarterback of the Packers, and we
saw Peyton Manning was at Packers practice. He was asked
after practice yesterday what the conversation was like between him
and Peyton on the field.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
To me, pretty much, if everybody was on the same
page in terms of me with the plays with guys,
if everybody's good communication. And I was pretty much telling me, yeah,
we have a really good communication around here. But I
was just kind of asking him how that was with him,
And he talked about that to the team in the
team reading room as well, just in that that's one
of the biggest things that he felt was what made

(15:52):
the cult so good when he played with them, was
just how well they communicated with each other, how well
they bonded as a team. How are you asking to
be coach? Like, are you guy that you know wants
to be coach really hard? Are you guys that kind
of just wants to be able to do your own
thing and it all matters. He said that when he
was a player, that was his biggest thing was he
wanted to be coach really hard. He always wanted to
be told what he was doing wrong.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah, I mean I do think, like, do you think
anybody's gonna sit there and tell Peyton Maanning like, no, man,
our communication is terrible. Well are you guys on the
same page? Yep? Or how about no, We're not on
the same page, not at all. I don't even know
what page they're on. This is like when I'm at
This is like when I'm at Temple and I have
no idea if they're talking in Hebrew, I don't know right,

(16:35):
or if you ever go to church, like I'm lost,
what page are We don't worry, justlip lip when we
start singing the hymns, just lips, lips, lips, thinking. I
love the He asked me if we are on the
same page. I told him we were. Well, there you go,
within your set. You're all good. Everybody's on the same page.
In July and August, talk to me in December. Let's
get to an update with Dan.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Byer doing on him Major League Baseball today, Brave scored
a lot against your Angels, unfortunately for you. Twelve five
was the final score. Alan of picks up the victory.
Lucas Giolito allowed nine in three and two thirds innings
in the loss for the Angels, Nationals scored twice in
the bottom of the ninth. They think top Milwaukee three

(17:16):
to two. Nats took two of three in that series.
Tigers won in Pittsburgh six to three. The Astros have
taken a three to two lead on the Guardians of
the seventh. Padres up three to one on the Rockies
in the fifth. Juan Soto a two run home run
for San Diego, while the Mariners in Red Sox are
scoreless right now in the second I just learned to
discover credit cards do something pretty awesome. At the end
of your first year. They automatically double all the cash

(17:38):
back you've earned. That's right, everything you earned it doubled.
The cash back from trips, restaurants all doubled. Seriously though,
see terms and check it out for yourself at discover
dot com, slash match, Yahoo sports is. The Big Ten
conferences started to talk about expansion that could include as
many as four additional schools, all of which would come
from the Pac twelve if that was the case. The

(17:59):
report says talks are early in the league is monitoring
what happens with the Back twelve and Big twelve The
schools mentioned were Oregon, Washington, cal and Stanford. Scene's running
back Galvin Kamara meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell today. That's
according to the NFL Network. It was last month that
Kamara pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of breach of
peace stemming from an electric fight in Las Vegas that

(18:20):
took place last year. Cooper Cup, You're gonna miss a
couple of weeks for the Rams, according to ESPN because
of his hamstring strain.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Doug back to you, all right, Thank you so much, Tan,
Doug Gott leave show, Fox Sports Radio. Let's get to
the midway, shall we a?

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Get It's time for the midway?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
There we go. What do you got? Midway topic? WHI
is there? Jays too?

Speaker 6 (18:47):
I had a topic, but I wanted to bring this
to the forefront. Two Is there any It's it's more
of a like a Twitter or social media etiquette protocol topic.
So Dan alluded to this in the last segment of
Last Hour that John has a rivalry with RAMS reporter,

(19:12):
actually former RAMS reporter. I don't know what this person
does nowadays, but the rivalry is based I think on
a misunderstanding. So Doug if you run into somebody on
the street and you have a conversation with them and
then later on they DM you, you don't follow them,

(19:38):
your their DM goes into like a queue of dms
for you to accept. Are you familiar with this operation?
I'm guessing not having access to your direct messages, I'm
guessing there's hundreds of people in your queue because there's
a lot of bots. There's a lot You just don't
have time to go through all your dms, and and
if you're this particular RAMS reporter, I'm guessing they get

(19:59):
a lot of unsolicited dms. The source of John's bitterness
is that he had a delightful conversation with a reporter
and then DM them later to just follow up and say, hey,
that was a great conversation, I appreciate meeting you, and
they they did not respond to John. So my question

(20:23):
to you, Doug, is this a case of misunderstanding and
social media protocol and etiquette or was that reporter being
mean and didn't respond to John.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I'm gonna guess what was the first choice?

Speaker 6 (20:42):
That John's DM is in this person's queue and had
never been read.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Had John had there been any back and forth with
direct messages previous.

Speaker 7 (20:51):
Like no, yeah, that's all yeah, and again that's what.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
You don't follow him, then it can go into it
goes into a completely as you said, different cues. Oh yes,
Instagram DM, Instagram DM or Twitter DM.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
Yeah, which and I stand corrected if that was the case.
So I don't know.

Speaker 8 (21:10):
I don't know all the little personality stuff of Twitter,
and I just figures it was I think it was Twitter.

Speaker 7 (21:16):
Was the initial one?

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah, wait, there's more than one.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
Was the initial one I wrote? Was on Twitter?

Speaker 1 (21:23):
And then he did another one on Twitter?

Speaker 7 (21:26):
No, no, no, no, but I say initial, like that
was the one I sent the initial one?

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Was that the only one? The initial would be the first,
meaning there were many others.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
Yeah, because that's where I figured Twitter was more of
the generic place that you would write something like that
to someone.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
Okay, but don't you find it very amusing, Doug, that
that uh John has held a grudge against this person
for more than three years. This pre exists my appearance
on this show.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
I had no idea.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
Yeah, Dan, I'll bring it up every once in a
while on air, especially when Dan.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Hope that's the beauty to dand yeah, right, and just
once just gets Ramo.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
So that's exactly what this whole thing is. It's it's
a fun little thing that John is experienced, and it's
quirky and it's great, it's fun. But I just want
to let John know you don't have to be bitter
at this person anymore.

Speaker 8 (22:20):
Okay, And I stand corrected or I sit corrected, as
I'm doing now, and Dan.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
Can stop his three year rous of giving it to
John on the air.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Well, that's not gonna end. That's not gonna end. Oh,
it's so great. This is why Ramas is honestly the best,
because he he allows me to do it knowing that
it's it's in fun. But not a lot of people,
would you know, the.

Speaker 8 (22:52):
Right I do play along because I think it's it's
interesting and unique. But let me tell you, Doug, the
best one is our cat. And you may know this
Kiddie Boo passed away about four years ago. Now, Dan, Yeah, yeah,
the dog a dog got him, got her And and
Dan brings it up. And Suzanne Sas actually told me, hey,

(23:13):
we please don't bring up kitty Boo on the air.
And so like that said, it's a it's a sensitive thing.
And yet still Dan everyone, so I will throw the
kiddy boo in there, which I don't find I find
funny just because Dan keeps doing it. You know, I
tell Susan all the time, like I you know, it
just came up out of nowhere. But you know, yeah,
it's it's kind of a little bit of an interest.

Speaker 7 (23:34):
Yeah, oh man, r I P kitty boo.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
R I P kitty boo. No, we're making fun of
kiitty boo.

Speaker 7 (23:41):
Well that's not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Let's we just asked him?

Speaker 7 (23:44):
Yeah, yeah, I know, yes, two years ago. But we're
not making fun. We're just going back. We're going down
memory lane. That's memory. I like that memory lane.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yes, but these are not positive memories. Hey remember that
time your cat died.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
Didn't die? Yeah, I was malled and killed.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
I mean.

Speaker 8 (24:05):
It didn't say like so long Ramos family, and then
just like killed over it was he was eating basically.

Speaker 6 (24:11):
But there is something in this business about having a
what is it called in in comedy a foil. Somebody
who knows and can take jokes and doesn't doesn't allow
it to affect their day. I once worked with a
host one of the most insecure people I've ever met,
my wife. He would he would make fun of he

(24:35):
would make fun of the other personal he's on the show,
so he would, you know, he would call me out
for all my weaknesses and my quirks and stuff. And
then you make fun of our the technical producer and
our sales guys. But whenever we would volley back this
these jokes to this host, he would get all pissed.
And then he went to our boss and he's like, hey,

(24:57):
you know how the Danettes, the Danettes always differential, deferential
to Dan. You know they don't they don't they don't
really criticize him. I need Jason and the crew to
be that way to me. And what was your reaction, Well, thankfully,
our boss's reaction was well, if you can't take it,
don't dish it out.

Speaker 7 (25:21):
Man.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
I'd love to be applying that wall the next couple
of shows.

Speaker 6 (25:26):
We need to be deferential to this personality.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
That's what he wanted you to do. That's what the host,
Yeah want you He wanted you to kiss the ring.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Oh yeah, everything we said needed to be like, you
know what, you're the best, and here here's why you're
right and just boring.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Razis lady or gentleman still in the business.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
Yeah, yeah, unfortunately, but unlike Kitty Boo, Yeah, Kitty is
no longer in the business.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
But no what now the business on this but maybe
eight other lives somewhere in one of those data of
the lives in the in the in the business.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
But to your credit, Doug, you allow us to give
you crap on the air. You even allow us to
disagree with you on the air, not allow you just
you don't you like encourage, you like the give and
take because you have a security about yourself.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
I don't think I have a security about myself. I
just don't necessarily know. I just I know the other
way sounds. I'm like, look, I'm as insecure as anybody
you know, but I don't I don't know if it's
security about myself. I just know that that what you
describe sounds like the least fun day at work. Ever.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
Yeah, you know for a couple of years.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
That that corporate America is a little bit like that.
Like I've when I was at CBS, I had not
my radio side, the TV side I had. I had
a one boss who was and like when I dealt
with him, he was great. But the way people treated him.
I was like, dude, you're never gonna get like a
he's never gonna respect you because you just fall all

(27:07):
over yourself with this person. Like, Oh my goodness, that's
an interesting one, you know. I think the throne that
Dan Byer sits on is a lot. I just I
think I understood he wanted his own chair, but the
fact that it is five feet off the ground and
he actually has a cape at his chair, I think

(27:27):
that's so much just a just a tinge much just
a ting.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
So that that's the midway being able to take punches,
roll with punches. That's part of the charm of a
successful broadcast.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
He also had to be I mean, anybody, it's not
just that, like you got to be self deprecating. You
know you can't. I don't know. I mean, do you
want in any relationship for somebody to only talk about
the perfect things?

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Now?

Speaker 1 (27:57):
You don't want somebody to beat you up and constantly
talk negative you. He's got to be balanced. But isn't
that in life, not just in radio or television?

Speaker 7 (28:06):
Of course?

Speaker 6 (28:06):
Of course, who likes a guy who likes a person
that doesn't takes himself too serious? You know, who likes
that have.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
I told you you guys about the time I got
schooled at a Super Bowl press conference by a player.

Speaker 7 (28:24):
So embarrassing.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
This was Super Bowl forty Steeler Seahawks, and if you
remember that week, Joey Porter and Jeremy Stevens were going
at it through the media.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
And Porter kept it up.

Speaker 5 (28:38):
It kept the spotlight off of Ben Roethlisberger, and all
the media members were around Joey Porter Senior. Now we
can say, but at that time he and Jeremy Stevens
were going back and forth. And this had gone on
for a couple of days, and so at one of
the media availabilities, I was there with other reporters in
front of Joey Porter, and I asked him, like what

(29:03):
he thought of, you know, Jeremy Stevens game. And then
I said, you know, what do you think of his numbers?
He goes, I don't know his numbers. He goes, that's
your job. What are his numbers? And I'm a Seahawks
fan and I couldn't even recite the numbers on the spot.
He goes, see, that's your job, And then all of

(29:23):
the other reporters around just started to laugh at me
like it was it was like.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
He turned it around on me, which he rightly did.

Speaker 5 (29:30):
I was not prepared as a reporter, but the over
the top chair to the back were all the other
reporters who then were like, h right, Joey oh Man.
It was the worst embarrassing first Super Bowl ever covered.

Speaker 6 (29:44):
And this doesn't exist on audio or video anywhere.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Probably not, but I don't even think at that time
the NFL network was broadcasting every player and it had
been a couple of days that this was going on,
but it may have been.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
But completely put me in my place?

Speaker 8 (30:04):
Is it because he felt the reporters should have had
your back, like they shouldn't have laughed at you.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
They could have laughed. It was just that they just
chose to pile on and side with the player.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
I think it's actually a super interesting story in that
we do see that a lot when you go to
those press coaches, where you know, just some people want
to suck up to the player. That's it was. That
was the worst officiated super Bowl by the way I could.

(30:33):
I'm not a Seahawks fan, but like, what did the
Seahawks do to deserve that? That was? That was crazy?

Speaker 7 (30:40):
Rings the Steelers did they?

Speaker 1 (30:42):
I thought. I thought the fact that they were up
there in the victory parade float, I thought that was
just like I got the rings thing, but back there
in the victory I thought that was that was a
bit much. I just don't like people who can't make it,
dish it out and take it a little bit. I
just not not a becoming. It's like one of the

(31:04):
most unbecoming things about somebody is when they it's more
unbecoming to dish it out and can't take it. But
some people can't do either, you know, Johns, John Ramos
couldn't take a condition out. Katie Boo could not take it.

Speaker 7 (31:20):
That is correct.

Speaker 5 (31:21):
Unfortunately, give me a minute because I got to send
Jason Stewart a quick email.

Speaker 6 (31:27):
No, No, we're good.

Speaker 7 (31:28):
Oh we're a good. Way, We're good. Okay.

Speaker 1 (31:31):

we can from the world of sports. Call it the press,

(32:54):
the press, dan Irawo's up in the press.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
Doug to a payoff the tease. One Soto run number
twenty three on the season. Padres leading the Rockies three
to one in the sixth the munch of day Baseball today.
That one is going on right now in Colorado.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
So there is some life there for the Padres. And
I know Rambos doesn't want to hear it, neither of
these Jaysuo, but there are definitely definitely a lot of
life there.

Speaker 7 (33:18):
We should play a game, Juan Soto or Han Solo?
Who did what? Figure that out? At some point?

Speaker 5 (33:24):
Han Solo, it's apparently lunchtime at the Apollo at Fox
Sports Radio. Let's move on the Doug. A report from
ya Who's sports is the Big Ten conference started talking
about expansion that could include as many as four additional schools,
all of which would come from the PAC twelve. Those

(33:45):
schools Oregon, Washington, and then the next level would be
cal and Stanford.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Well, that makes it makes sense, and it's a little
bit like what we talked about I think Monday, which
is it feels like the Big Ten is waiting for
the Big twelve to deliver the kill shot to the
Pac twelve. Then they go in and get at least
two more like why. I mean, that's a lot of teams,
but obviously that would give them like a West Coast contingent.
I just wonder though, I think there's value there TV wise,

(34:12):
and it's much better for your Olympic sports. Now you
got Wazoo, Oregon State, they don't want them, cal Stanford, Arizona,
Arizona State, along with the Mountain West schools. That's gonna
be interesting. But more than anything, would that actually increase attendance?
Like if UCLA is still basically playing in some form
of the pack and added to call Big ten ten teams,
does it actually make sense? I don't know if they

(34:34):
that makes the best league possible.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
Florida State Board of Trustees meeting today and there is
a lot going on on social media, especially for those
that followed college sports, about the tone of this meeting,
and the tone is pretty much unhappy Florida State wanting
more from the accre one saying that the ACC, which
I completely agree with. One trustee said that the ACC

(35:00):
would be a death by a thousand cuts. I don't
think you'll see the ACC in fifteen years.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
I don't think you see the ACC in five years
and five.

Speaker 7 (35:09):
Anybody give me four? Can anybody give me about three?
About right?

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Three?

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Hire two?

Speaker 7 (35:17):
Hire two too too too too, too too Oh, I
got a one.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
We got one.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Old johns Uh.

Speaker 7 (35:25):
That's that's the vibe people are. Uh they are mad.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
State goes like, Hey, we love the ACC, but we
need a bigger cut. I don't need a bigger cut.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
I also think that, in addition to Dan Wetzel's Yahoo
story about the Big Ten looking at the Pack twelve schools,
I do think that they are also in the waiting
game because you want to see what's there from the ACC.
Because North Carolina and Virginia and those schools would be

(35:56):
great additions to the Big Ten. I just don't know
how they get out of their current deal at the
conference and make a move. And then if one school goes,
then they all would end up going, or a majority
of them would end up going. Sure, all right, Doug,
you got some numbers here. The NFL Players Association releasing
the top twenty players who sold the most officially licensed

(36:20):
product in the National Football League and this offseason, the
leader is Patrick Mahomes, number one in the rankings for
the most sold gear this offseason, Aaron Rodgers number two.
Joe Burrow of the Bengals is number three.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
So Aaron Rodgers too, Is that what you said?

Speaker 7 (36:41):
Yes, number two in this which is.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
I'm making a new new team, and is Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
Yeah, I'm actually surprised he's not number one, but Mahomes
is coming off the super Bowl and such a big
brand that maybe that's that's why Travis Kelsey is fifth,
Micah Parsons of the Cowboys is fourth.

Speaker 7 (37:00):
He's actually higher than Dak. Dak is seventh on this list.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Kyler Murray twelfth, which was interesting, and a couple of
other normal names can he Pickett thirteenth, Jimmy Garoppolo fifteenth,
and Jordan Love eighteenth, So ahead of Justin Herbert For
off season sales for officially licensed.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Product, well, I mean pretty obvious. Pretty obviously quarterbacks sell jerseys, right,
I mean that's crazy that, but I do. I also
think a portion of the Aaron Rochester thing is being
an anti vax guy. I think works for him as well,
Like there's a definitely an anti vax crowd. Like he's

(37:43):
got some he's been able to core to the market.

Speaker 6 (37:45):
Oh absolutely, yes, he's got all the Joe Rogan listeners.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Yeah, a lot, yes, so, and I think he's got
Pat McAfee listeners as well, because he's on that show.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yeah, so that online sent out this information. A semi
scientific Twitter study is how they characterized it over the
past month. Ranked NFL teams on whose teams or whose
fans are more optimistic about the upcoming season than others.
The Chiefs had the most optimistic fans, followed by the Eagles, Cowboys, Lions,

(38:19):
and Bengals. What's interesting is the I guess least optimistic
if you will, about their chances. Panthers were the worst.
Then the Texans, Titans and Commanders. After that the New
England Patriots.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Wow, oh, how the mighty have fallen very much so yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
And speaking of fallen, seventy six Ers forward Mantres Harrel
apparently Torres Acla Meniscus this soft season, according to the Athletic,
appeared in fifty seven games for the Sixers this past season.
So Mantres Harrel an off season.

Speaker 7 (38:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
I did write it out. I just write it out
as usual with Noel at the end. It's easier for me.
And that would be the press.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
They get out there and pressed.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
That was the press, all right. Well, still no clarity
on the Jonathan Taylor thing. We still haven't gotten to
the state of Iowa. Betting scandal, but that one's going
to be I think as that story unfolds, we'll get
more and more out of it. And look, we talked
about this going back to last year, when you know
players get suspended in the in the NFL, gambling being

(39:36):
legalized in most of the country and the access to
it from your phone, there's a reason that there are
limitations on it, and we're going to see some of
these athletes exposed and probably ruin their careers over it.
Talk about that tomorrow. She got the podcast in the
