from preseason games, you know, unless somebody's do you guys,
see Matt raised your hand if you knew Matt Barkley
was still in the league, Did you.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Know that kinda Do you remember what Matt?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
You remember Matt Barkley was gonna be the number one
overall pick in the NFL draft and then he went
back to USC and he came back and he was.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Not I remember it, well, Yeah, that was horrible.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Uh. Matt Barkley was seven of twelve on Saturday night,
ninety three yards, three interceptions, was sacked and uh was
sacked and he lost a fumble. Like that's a that's
a tough night. That's a tough night, especially when Kyle
(01:54):
Allen was like twelve of fifteen, one touchdown, played perfect
football comes out all right, here comes Matt. Let's see
be Actually Kyle Allen was Kyle Allen. They have two,
isn't that? Where they got Kyle and Josh Allen and
they got Matt Barkley. And the thing about Matt Barkley
is he's in that stage and he's been the stage
like the last five years in his career where you
(02:15):
don't really want him to play because he's so he's
got such a high football IQ. He's basically your assistant
quarterback coach and assistant offensive coordinator. On the other hand,
he's got to be able to play a little bit
in the meantime, and I think he can't play a
little bit anyway. Packers, of course, had their preseason game
(02:38):
against the Patriots, and you know that we're trying to
figure out what Jordan Love is. Meanwhile, you're watching the
Jets play. And the Jets have a preseason game coming
up next week and it'll be their final preseason game.
If we remember the preseason contracted right by one game.
Is I'm not thinking wrong on this? And the Yets
(03:00):
are supposedly gonna play Aaron Rodgers, and there's lots of
back and forth about should he plays there playing the Giants.
The Giants have a good pass rush, you know, do
they want do they do you really want to play
Aaron Rodgers because Aaron Rodgers didn't play in the preseason,
in the preseason yet, And my argument is, yeah, right,
(03:23):
if you can't survive one preseason game, how are you
gonna survive seventeen games? I understand that there is completely
understand they got offensive line issues and there's no real
win on the scoreboard for having him in. But he's
gonna play in live reps in a game without having
played live reps in a preseason game. I would never
(03:47):
stop guys from one to play, especially at a position
like quarterback where it doesn't feel like you can you
can avoid you can avoid any any sort of negative impact,
or you know, you see anything close, you throw it
away or just take a knee. What do you think, Jase,
do you think you should play?
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I just think that the the risk involved. If there's
one takeaway that we've had from the Jets training camp,
it's that the offensive line is still figuring stuff out.
And I think that the concern is that if the
offensive line is not figured itself out, then why would
you want to put your quarterback in any kind of jeopardy,
(04:28):
especially when they're starters all around the NFL who who
aren't playing in the preseason at all. So I think
that's the argument against it. But the Jets are going
to do it anyways, right.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, And then of course they canceled there. They didn't
show up for a dual practice last week. That one
that thing was real weird too. You know, they just
know showed for a practice because Robert Sala couldn't be there,
so they felt like they couldn't be there. That was
just so weird, so weird, robots. Where are you on
guys playing preseason games? And if it's a good idea.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
I think they should play at least some of the
preseason game. I saw Jimmy Garoppolo play. I think it
was like two sets of downs in the Rams Raiders
game on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I think they.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Should get in there at least get a fill, throw
the ball around a little bit. They don't play the
whole game and then they're good, but just to sit
out the entire game and watch, I mean, I don't know.
I agree with you about like we don't want to
get if that if the theory was we don't want
them to get hurt, I think that theory has been
thrown out with the bathwather.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
No.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
I mean, like, look, you don't want guys to get hurt.
But they play in the and I know some of
these are being canceled. They play in the closed scrimmages
right in the two team scrimmages. So I just I
don't really understand. I don't actually understand the logic there,
and like we're not going to have them play in
the games, but we'll have him played in the scrimmages.
(05:52):
I mean, look, I get it. You don't want your
quarterback getting hurt getting hit, and you can protect them
and put a jersey on them, but there still gonna
get popped and you still run the risk of of
non contact injuries in those in all of those workouts.
So I just you gotta get some reps with the guys.
You got to get some down in distance reps, and
(06:14):
I know you get those in those scrimmages. But if
Aaron Rodgers feels like he needs it for rhythm and timing,
then he needs it for rhythm timing. Exactly has he
ever gotten hurt a preseason game? I think the answer
is no. So why suddenly we're so concerned that it'll
get hurt in the preseason games. That's my thing behind it.
(06:36):
I think it's fun, I think it's interesting. I also
think there is a little bit of it and I'm
sure this is what a lot of people are thinking.
This is a very Jets move, right, the Jets who
are trying to They always try and own New York
instead of just put a good football team out there,
like they're playing the Giants. They want to own new
York or we're gonna throw Aaron Rodgers out there where.
That's not what owns New York. Just win consistently and
(06:59):
you'll own the How every town likes a winner. It's
amazing how that happens. When you win, they show up.
That's exactly how it works. Is that works? I'm more
interested in this. Monsey went to Taylor Swift and then
reported back, is this the only show you've gone to
this summer?
Speaker 5 (07:19):
No?
Speaker 6 (07:19):
I saw Blink.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
Well, of Taylor Swift, I only saw one because I
had to take out a loan and give up a kidney.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
But I did also go see Blink one eighty two.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
How are they?
Speaker 6 (07:28):
They were wonderful? Oh it was so good. It was
so fun.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
So Travis Barker is an amazing, amazing drummer.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Did you think Travis Barker was an amazing drummer before
he was on the with the Kardashians.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
Yes, I just didn't really how good he was. I mean,
I've been listening to Blink since I was like in
third grade and In fact, I remember like there was
this particular song that my brother was I do not
listen to that song. We could talk about that off air,
but I've been a big fan, and I guess I
didn't know how how good he was. He had like
a solo, long segment by himself, just going at it
(08:06):
with the drums, and it was so awesome to watch.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
The drum, the old drum solo, and.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Then they lifted him up.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
They lifted his set by himself up above everybody else.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
It was so awesome.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Well, Tommy Lee, they used to a Spontley crew.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
They used to run him over the whole stadium, like
he would go up upside down and they would spin
him around.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
So I've just been done before already. Usually the drum
sol Travis.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
The name of the drum solo song is usually I'm
gonna go get a beer. What do you guys want?
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Anything? Not at all?
Speaker 6 (08:39):
It was so good, it was he was great. He
was great, and I was at the show.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
That there's no way he was was a it's because
the Kardashian's.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
Come on, man, I don't want him dating or being
married to a Kardashian.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
I don't want that. Why why he's like a great dude,
like because all of us.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
The minute he did that, everybody started criticizing him. So
I just was like, uh, the world because the Kardashians
are either loved or hated. There's no one between, there's
no in between. Unfortunately for those billionaires, you either love
them or you hate them.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
So what is the what does that have to do
with him that.
Speaker 7 (09:14):
He was kind of crucified a little bit by the
one by the ones who.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
Hate the Kardashians.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Pay attention, I don't, I don't. I'm going to disagree there.
You've clearly fallen for Travis Parker because of how nice
he is to Courtney in the show. And now you're
like the one person watching the drum stong that's the show.
Where's the rest of us? The rest of us are like, dude,
drum sello. Oh god, see.
Speaker 7 (09:40):
It's cute that you think I watched that show because
I don't.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Okay, so no, no, never.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
Oh you don't know when it came out? When it
came out?
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Oh yeah, how many seasons deep did you go into the.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
Kardasca I probably like watched the first five seasons religiously.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Okay, yeah, Jase dou Have you ever watched an entire
Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
I've watched entire episodes, but I can't say I have
tracked more than three total in my entire wife watch
the whole episode.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I have watched three quarters of a couple of them,
but I would I would tell you, like I watched
Jasete and I are locked in on We're both Bachelor.
He has the Bachelor podcast.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
Yes, just very good. By the way, is the new
one with the old guy is Brian Old? No, No,
they haven't done the Golden Bachelor. They're just doing The
Bachelor right now.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
And by the way, yeah, my official take on the
the Elderly Bachelor.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Yeah, yeah, the Elderly Bachelor, Golden Bachelor.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
No, that's what the elderly.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, I only watched the show.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Awesome if you like hurt, he had to get like surgery.
My goodness. He comes out of the fantasy suite, He's like, my,
that's not off the table right time.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
But the only reason I watched The Bachelor, and the
reason why I do a podcast about it, and I do.
I love the show. It's a great formula, is because
it's it's really fun watching young people trying so hard
to be famous and be humiliated on camera. I take
joining that. I don't need to see my grandmother getting
(11:20):
humiliated on camera. I just didn't. I don't want to
see old people because the format of the show is
to embarrass and humiliate you for TV, and I don't
need to see old people getting used like that. I
want to see twenty somethings getting used like that.
Speaker 7 (11:36):
You don't think this is their goal of making you think, oh,
this is going to be a real season, like we're
actually going to help this guy find love.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
I feel like they're trying to.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
They'll tell you that, Yeah, they'll tell you that, But
that's what you think.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
The real job of the show is to humiliate people.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Oh absolutely, yes, yeah yeah, finding love. Finding love is
about the tenth priority on.
Speaker 7 (11:57):
This for realidos that you know are lime, green and
pink playing dodgeball.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yeah no, that's so embarrassing.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
That's right, by the way. I don't think it's to
embarrass you. I think it's I think it's it plays
into all these parts of people's brains which they think,
you know, It's like there's a bunch I do believe
that the finding love thing is like tenth. Yeah, in
the piloty of this, I would agree with that, But
I don't think I think people humiliate themselves on their
(12:25):
own I just.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Did because of the structure of the show. That's the
brilliance of the show is that they have these humans
fall into typical traps even though they know they're coming,
they fall under them and they embarrass themselves on national TV.
And that's that's what's fun about the show.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
My question would be, he's seventy right out the Yeah,
the golden mkay. My question is if any it would
be one person would be seventy another women. The majority
of the other women, I'm guessing will be between the
ages of forty five to fifty.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Oh, they'll be some in the thirties. Okay, you think thirty.
I'm not going to go that low.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
But if yeah, I doubt there'll be anybody between sixty
five to seventy in that group.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
If maybe one just to make it look good. There'll
definitely be some like like Grandma who's like got it together.
You're like, she's how old? In no way, but they'll
also be there's gonna be a she's how young? Yeah,
I agree with that.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
No, they can't do that?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Oh they can? Why if they can? If you're what's
the difference if you're in your thirties or in your
forties and you're single, you're like an older guy and
he's like, you know, he's like a Benjamin Button type, Like,
what's the difference?
Speaker 7 (13:36):
Because I think I think if you were to put somebody,
let's just say, thirty five half his age, I feel
that that's going to open the door automatically. Of obviously
this woman is just trying to take him for whatever
he's worth.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That he's not right again, that's like a great storyline,
like are you in it for the real reason? For
the right reasons? This is like every have you watched
the Best Service?
Speaker 6 (13:59):
Say you can't so like what the show should do?
Speaker 7 (14:01):
It's like no, no, no, nobody below forty five like it should.
It should not be I think anybody who's in the
thirty year range. And now you're right, I guess you're right,
jayse Dow, what.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Do you think the youngest uh, what do you think
the youngest female will be on the show?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I'm thinking late thirties. But here's what the show typically
has everyone Why about the rage? Right? Sa you'll see
a guy on this. You'll see a guy that's like
forty three on a's like second plastic surgery, and it'll
be like Ted is twenty eight, Like, no, he's not.
I think they're gonna lie the opposite. I think they're
gonna be like Marge is sixty two, Marge, and she's
(14:43):
actually thirty.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Nine, but he's really seventy right, Wow?
Speaker 7 (14:48):
Yeah, I mean I think so he looks I last
week when they showed him, he looked let's see old bachelor.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
He did. He looked, he looked older.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
You looked older than seventy Yeah, no, wow, he did
not like like, yes, well he's old.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
Seventy one is what he is listed as.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Uh moncy, would you date a seventy on your own?
Speaker 6 (15:11):
Absolutely not?
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Not even there's nothing in common, that's right, you have
nothing in common with him.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
It's like, puppy, can you have five shots of tequila
and survive?
Speaker 1 (15:20):
What if he can have five shots tequila.
Speaker 6 (15:22):
And no, we'll go have a happy hour.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
But we's going to have a happy hour and he can.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
I couldn't date it. No, I could not.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
I couldnot physically be attracted to somebody.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
What if you are and you're like, you're how old
you Michael seventy one? Like?
Speaker 7 (15:36):
No, well, of course, what if you're giving me a
situation where I have to like put myself in in
something I don't see myself ever, I I don't think
I could get there.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
How old is the rock?
Speaker 6 (15:48):
I don't know? Fifty let's find out.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Okay, y.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Guys, I'm on it.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I mean, like, what is what is the what is
the limit?
Speaker 6 (15:58):
There's fifty one? Yeah, that's he's not even twenty years
older than me.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
He's not even twenty years old. Yeah, okay, let's see
who's like that. Who's give me a good looking sixty
year old jas due?
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Okay, how about this? I can't date somebody older than
my parents? How about that? That's I think that's fair.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
That makes sense.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
That makes sense. There you go, What about your parents age?
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Can Yeah? If my parents is.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Him and your dad are cracking beers.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
My dad can crack beers with my current boyfriend who's
exactly my age, So no, I can't. I think it's
that like I can't have them be around my parents' age.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Okay, that's that. There's the Moncy Bolagos rules.
Speaker 4 (16:36):

Doug Gotleib show Rosanni on Fox Sports Radio. I gotta
tell you, guys, we've shown some serious versatility and kind
of showed dexterity today. We've talked hurricanes. Did you guys
feel the earthquake? How big an earthquake was that?
Speaker 2 (17:12):
It was a five point oh that's an one up
there where I live.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah, yeah, that's a mustang, right, it's a five point oh.
Five is usually the number that you feel, isn't it.
Speaker 6 (17:21):
Yes, I was here working.
Speaker 7 (17:23):
We were on air, and we were it was a
Calvin Washington, George Reister, and we were I think I
was like about to do my updates.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
So I was talking to them and.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
I was like, hold on, are we Oh, we're having
an earthquake. And it lasted so long We're like, we're
still shaking. No, we're still in an earthquake. Oh. While
we were on air, and then later in the show,
you know, get in the backdrop that is in the
studio where you sit, Doug, it fell on Kelvin.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
That's workman's comp Yeah, he was talking drop falls because
we can change it so that the sponsor is different.
I think that's by design. Actually it's that's what the
engineer said. That's what the engineer said. That's the like, No,
that's by design, but by design anyway. That Actually it's
(18:13):
interesting because you know people always like to say this, hurk,
there's there's weather, right, that there's earthquake, weather right, hot
and dry as that's a bunch of crap that doesn't
actually make sense. Dog Gollic show on Fox Sports Trading
get you, that's baseball and Monty Blangia's upcoming. But let's
welcome in Mike Jones, national football writer for the Athletic
As we're creeping up in the last preseason games and
(18:37):
I think some of the news of lateies. You have
a lot of cancelations of these dual practices, Mike, I
get that the Saints had kind of a tumultuous trip
with the Jimmy Graham thing. You got the Jets and
Robert Sala couldn't be there the Patriots and they had
a devastating injury. That looks like he'll be a bold
(18:59):
and'll be okay, But why do you think we're canceling
these dual practices which coming into the year, every coach
I talked to said, those are the practices they get
more out of than the actual preseason games.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
Yeah, you know, it is a delicate balance that these
teams are trying to strike between wanting to make sure
they get enough work and getting the opportunity to see
their guys against uncommon opponents. But at the same time,
these things do tend to get a little chippy, and
as you're going against it, especially when you have two days,
(19:33):
there might be a couple of cheap shots one day
and then it kind of boils over to the next day.
And so they're trying to be smart with this. They're
trying to make sure they get work but don't put
their guys in harms away. And I think that some
of these teams, like the Patriots, they've had that scary
situation there and they feel like, you know what, let's
let's be smart here. Why do we need to go
(19:54):
out here and get extra work when you know it
is important control of the environment. We're going to play
this team here at Belichick basically taking the folksiness team,
I think, and you know, some of these teams are
beat up and so they're not at full force, and
so the coaches are looking at it like, hey, this
is the long run here, we need to take care
of our bodies. And some of them might go back
(20:15):
to do some walkthroughs instead of full on practices so
guys can get healed. So I think that's why we're
seeing that, they're just trying to be smart, look at
the long haul and in different It's a change, you know,
you know years ago when we were coming up, you know,
there were two days and everything like that. Now you know,
you're seeing teams scale back and try to take care
of the bodies and look at for the long run.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
But there is this sense from a lot of people
football people I talk to that the more they scale back,
they still have the same injury rate once the season begins.
And some people think it's because they're not playing enough football,
enough tackle contact football during the preseason to kind of
build up, you know, build up some football antibodies, if
(20:57):
you will, Like you said, there's a healthy eles. How
do you find that?
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Yeah, you know, I agree, Yeah, And I talked to
a number of guys yesterday around the league asking and
there were a number of coaches who brought up, hey, look,
we're I don't think these guys are as game conditioned
as what they were in the past. And some of
these guys former players as well, who agreed with that
because they weren't getting those those hits and so then
they're getting to these preseason games and they're getting hurt.
(21:23):
And if you eliminate the preseason, then these injuries are
going to drag into the regular season. And some of
these guys are gonna get hit early early in the
regular season anyway because they didn't play in the preseason.
You know, it's it's it's challenging because you know, you
don't want to send your franchise quarterback out there for
a game that doesn't count in your standing, you know,
(21:45):
and subject them to the risk of being sacked and
injured very seriously and lose them for the season. But
you do have to get your guys ready. I don't know,
it's a tough call. And there's no speed like game
speed from an evaluation standpoint. For the younger guys, they
most definitely need those reps. Veterans you can kind of
(22:06):
rely on them to make sure they're ready. And I
think that's what these coaches are trying to do, and
that's why they're holding their veterans out and trying to
play their young guys.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
All right, let's let's talk about a couple of these teams.
They'll have some new looks. Baltimore's got some new players,
most notably Odell Beckham junior, but they also have a
new look offensively. What's the word out of Baltimore on
how that new offense is coming along?
Speaker 5 (22:25):
I think good about how it's come along. Lamar Jackson
has talked about how he has more freedom to make
changes at the line, like you feel like he's got
all the keys to the car now in running this offense.
I think that one of the things with Roman was that,
you know, the offense both when he was in you know,
Baltimore and Buffalo in San Francisco, the offense looks good
(22:49):
and eventually, you know, there's not that evolution, it doesn't
go to the next level and teams start catching up
to it. And that's why they felt like it was
time for a change. And I think that they are
encouraged by what they're seeing with Mankan and running his system.
The main things the Ravens need though, is they need help.
Lamar Jackson's got to stay healthy, but also as importantly,
(23:12):
his wide receivers and his running backs have to stay
healthy because the last three years he's had a lot
of injuries at those skill position players and that makes
that load on him even heavier. And so if they
can all stay healthy, if they offensive line, which has
been retooled a little bit, can you know, protect him,
they should be right there in the thickest things as
we come down the stretch of the season. But they
(23:35):
feel like this offense is going to allow Lamar Jackson
to be a playmaker with his arm, not have to
have as heavy a load, but still use his legs
when he needs to.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
I saw Tevin Jenkins is gonna be out for a
while with a leg injury. Bears have had a They've
had offensive line issues over the past couple of years.
You've got a young quarterback trying to prove himself and
a depleted offensive line that wasn't good to begin with.
Your thoughts on the Bears offensive outlook with this banged.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Up group, I lost you said for the Bears, Yes, yes,
you know, a lot of it's going to have to
be They've put really good skill position players around around
their quarterback. But a lot of it's going to be okay,
how does Justin Field do taking that next step? We've
seen him, you know, as a runner, but and he
(24:24):
make that jump as a passer, and yes, they need
help in front of him, but it does look like, hey,
he's not going to have a shortage of weapons. If
he can take that step forward, then you know, they've
invested heavily on both sides of the ball. Their divisions
wide open. They got to catch the vikings and you know,
and we'll see what they do another year and that
(24:46):
system with their young head coach. But justin Field, I
think we should see and a lot of people I
talk to thinking he's going to take a step forward,
But again, health is you know, the big question mark
for the guys in front of.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Stug Ot Leab Show here on Fox Sports Radio, uh
we are. We're discussing things all all across the league
with Mike Jones, national football writer for The Athletic. He
joins us in the Doug Outlet Show here on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. Any idea, Jimmy Graham,
I that was a really, really scary story. Are we
(25:23):
buying that he had a seizure and that's what what
caused that weird, weird story this weekend in Los Angeles.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
Yes, very you know, and it's it's not something that
I mean, I don't recall scaring or seeing how this
happen with with somebody in the past. But I mean,
the good thing is it sounds like that he's okay.
I think, you know, didn't sounds that he's a little
shicken up, which is you know, understandable. You hope for him.
(25:53):
You know, he's trying to I know that there were
some guy that was down in New Orleans for early
in training camps that Matthew was saying, Man, I didn't
even know he was still playing. But it's great to
have him back here in the block room. It's great that,
you know, and you hope that he can, you know,
you know, have a productive enough preseason to be able
to solidify a roster spot and then you have this
(26:15):
type of thing happened right here. That's very scary. But
you just hope that he's going to be okay and
you know that that you know, there's no lingering effects
of this, and that he can find a role in.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
That offense stuck out. I'm shureing Fox Sports, Forge, Mike
Jones and the Athletic joining us. What team do you
think we're not discussing enough in terms of how good
they actually are? Right like that? The team that's gonna
sneak up on us as who.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
You know, we we hear about teams like you know,
everybody thinks the Lions are going to take a lead
this year. But I still think that in that division,
I'm still looking at the Vikings. They have what they need.
They they've beat up their defense. They've got Brian Floryer
is running that defense. Now, Kirk Cousins had a very
(27:03):
good year with Kevin O'Connell and now it's the second
year and that system there. Stustin Jefferson, I think that
the Vikings might be a team that could really do
some damage. When you look at the NFC, there's not
a lot of teams you feel like are lots to
uh to dominate that conference. It's like all the heavyweight
(27:23):
hitters are there in the AFC, and so I'm really
going to be interested to see what the Vikings can do.
I'm also still very intrigued by Tampa. I think that
Baker Mayfield and Todd Bowles, both of them, you know,
they are kind of in a situation where they need
each other. They both have a lot to prove. But
their division is there, it's wide open because you've got uh,
(27:46):
you know, Desmond Ritter taking over in Atlanta, You've got
Bryce Young in Carolina. There are I think it'll come
down to the Saints and the Bucks there. And you
know a lot of people think, oh, the Bucks aren't
going to be any good anymore because I'm boy gone.
But they found a way to add young talent and
hang on to ve trends. I think that they still
(28:06):
have a chance to win that division. It's going to
be intriguing.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Cowboys a lot of time about Dak Prescott. Some pressure
on him, you now calling the plays. You know, like
three teams from the division made the playoffs last year.
Eagles still look like they're loaded. What becomes of the
Cowboys this season?
Speaker 5 (28:26):
You know, it's going to be interesting to see how
Mike McCarthy runs this offense. You know, it's it's interesting
that Kellen Moore became the scapegoat, and you know it
was his fault that the offense wasn't as effective, and
now McCarthy talks about how he's going to run the
football more and things like that. We do know that
the recipe for success traditionally for Dak Prescott has been,
(28:49):
you know, when they have a strong run game, it
seems like he's more effective than when he has a
drop back and throw the ball forty times game. But
you know, we do remember back in Green Bay late
years there, McCarthy's offense was pretty boring. It was predictable,
There wasn't a lot of motion, and so you know,
has he learned a few new wrinkles and new tricks
(29:11):
that he's been back in the NFL. That's what I
really want to see. We know that their defense is
going to be really good, really effective, and that'll keep
them in games. Is Tony Pollard ready to have that
whole workload? You know, they did lose twelve rushing touchdowns
from Ezekiel Elliott being gone there, but again, all eyes,
(29:31):
all the pressure is going to be on Dak Prescott,
but hopefully for his sake, they can have a strong
run game to try to use that pressure.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Kind of hard to figure out the NFC West outside
of well even San Francisco with quarterback play. But Seattle
is a team that stuck up on us parvo as
the Rams were just depleted by injury last year the
Cardinals losing Cala Murray and they weren't particularly good. But
now they bring back Gino, make a lot more money.
Defense is pretty young and solid. What's the ceiling for
(29:58):
the Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
I think that they can be in the thickest things
there again, because they added to their defense, they've added
on offense. They seem like they are balanced. You know.
Good for them for figuring out, okay, when to cut
the cord with Russell Wilson, and we thought that they
were going to take a step backwards, and instead they
had the pieces around, you know, Smith and Gino. Smith
(30:22):
played really well. I don't see why that they couldn't
still contend in that division there. Obviously, San Francisco is
a scene that we think is still going to be
leading the pack there, but Seattle should be right up there.
I'm really curious to see how quickly the Rams are
able to bounce back. They didn't have the resources to
do a lot in free agency, didn't have a whole
(30:44):
lot of draft picks. But if they have health, you know,
some people have talked to like, look, they have a
healthy Matthew Stafford, Cooper Cup and Aaron Donald, so they
in Sean McVay, so they should have a chance. But
I'm definitely not counting out Seattle think that they still
have a chance to build on what they had last year.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
My great stuff, man, We're getting closer and closer. You
always provide the insight that we need. Appreciate you being
our guest on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Oh hey, thanks for having me.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug

Doug Gottleib Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to human Tyright

Play of the day. Progressive is making things even easier
to help you bundle your home and car insurance together
so you can say I'm both on more progressive dot
COMMA called one eight hundred progressive. They call in the

(32:12):
Suzuki a home run to end up winning the game
for to three. Speaking of baseball, let's play a little.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
That's baseball, it's time for that's baseball.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Yeah, we say that's baseball. The things that only makes
sense because it's baseball, but they don't really make sense, right,
Like Mariners star Julio Rodriguez. Right, So, in a four
game stretch, we had seventeen hits. He hit seven seventy
three over that span. The seventeen hits are the most
in any four game span in Major League history. In fact,
(32:49):
it was more hits over that four game span than
the Yankees had as a team in the same period.
How do you explain one player having more hits than
the New Year York Yankees in a four game stretch.
Only way when we explain it that my friends' is baseball,
that's baseball, Okay. So Dallas Kickel like man, I haven't
(33:18):
heard Dallas Kaikel in a long time. As a veteran,
He's been there a long time. Thirty five years old,
he carried a perfect game into the seventh inning against
the Pirates yesterday. The thirty five year old had no
offers this past offseason. He signed a minor league contract
with the Twins in June. This was his third start
in the season. How does a guy who's out of
baseball doesn't get to the major leagues with only one
(33:40):
offer until June? Pitching six innings of perfect ball? That's baseball.
That's baseball. Okay, show hey Otani a grand slam Friday
night for the Angels and pulled into a tie for
the major league lead in home runs. You know the story, right,
(34:03):
Despite old Taani's grand slam, the Angels found a way
to lose the game to the Rays. How to explain
a team with the greatest player on the planet now
below five hundred, Well, that is Angels baseball. That's baseball.
Let's get the Monty Belana to the press.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
The press.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Lots of what he.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Got, all right, Doug? Does this mean anything?
Speaker 7 (34:32):
The Baltimore Ravens tonight, taking on the Commanders. The Ravens
have won an NFL record twenty four straight preseason games.
The last time they lost the preseason game September third,
twenty fifteen.
Speaker 6 (34:46):
Does it mean.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Anything, No, No, But I mean it's a thing to them,
but it's not really, you know, I think it's for
those guys that aren't going to make the team. You know,
they compete because they know it's kind of a thing
for him.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
Nah, Okay.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
I threw together a couple of things that were happening
when the Ravens last loss a preseason game.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Oh geez, you didn't do that, did you. Gee? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
We never thought a guy named Donald Trump could ever
be president. We never knew what a coronavirus was unless
you were a uneologist. The Force Awakens had just come out,
arguably the best Star Wars movie.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Ryan'sitting there next year because he's going to try and
smack you.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
The former Bruce Jennerer came out as Caitlin. The Warriors
ended a thirty year championship drought, the first of what
how many four first of their dynasty, and remember Doug
Kentucky fell after a thirty eight and no record. They
fell to one of the greatest college basketball games of
all time fell to Wisconsin. Willie coley Stein was on
(35:47):
that team. Carl Anthony was on that team. Karl Anthony
town was on that team. So that's what happened last time.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Wow, thanks really puts it in perspective.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
No, it doesn't. He's messing with us because he knows
how much he knows how much we all hate that.
There's the sports in history, this dian sports history. You
know what that happened. I was just an elementary skill.
And anyway you.
Speaker 6 (36:09):
Salted a guy from the Simpsons.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
That's the idea. What do you got? What else you got?
What else are you saying?
Speaker 7 (36:14):
Bengals running back Joe Mixon declined to speak to reporters
in his first practice, which was yesterday after he was
found not guilty in an aggravated menaceine case. Then he
announced that he was going to be boycotting questions from
specific reporters who represent Sports Illustrated, the Cincinnati Inquirer, Pro
Football Network, and ESPN.
Speaker 6 (36:33):
When he was asked why, he said, you know why.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
You know why? No, I really don't know why. No,
you know why. It's because of the reporting on this story,
which he feels like is one sided or whatever. You know.
It's really simple though for Joe. Like Joe, you can
just go no comment, right, I can answering football. It's
depending legal matter, no comment right?
Speaker 6 (36:55):
Why are you we complicating the situation? Makes nuse?
Speaker 1 (36:57):
But also are those news outlet's not supposed to write
about his story?
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Right?
Speaker 7 (37:04):
It's like the biggest ones. I know, I mean, what
are we doing? What do we just say?
Speaker 6 (37:09):
No comment? I agree? I agree?
Speaker 7 (37:11):
Uh so the Orioles. I love this story. Apparently the
Orioles loved the A's ground keeper's dog, Rebu, during their
three game series this weekend. So now the A's are
trying to get a dog in their clubhouse, and they're
gonna name it Camden, regardless of whether it's a boy
or a girl.
Speaker 6 (37:30):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Yeah, except it has to be with the A's, right,
get huh?
Speaker 7 (37:36):
They want the They fell in love with the A's dogs,
and now the Orioles want them.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Oh dog, Okay, that's clearly the dog brings the A's
good luck. Yea, Now they're in pressed. That was the press.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
I just accurate.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Worst team in the worst team in the sports, not
really close. Hell, but we have a dog. But do
we mention we have a dog. We have a dog,
all right, Little Ravens Commanders game today, we'll recap tomorrow.
It's the Dog Gottlieb Show. Check out the podcast in
the bonus. It's live now Fox Sports Radio.
