(00:41):
are here, Mike Harmon and I can't get over how
excited I always am for zero week in college football
because it's one hundred and eighty degrees. How excited I
was for zero period in high school and college. Did
not like zero period at all? You zero week zero?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Okay, don't tell me you tried to schedule I had
I You sleeping at eleven am most days? Don't? Why?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Why do you think I sleep in now?

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Because I went through it when I was I'm not
doing it anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
I hate I hate doing it.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
When I was a senior in high school, I had
to take zero period because somehow we're along the lines.
I'm like, okay, you know, because me because I was
really smart and I'm in all the smart classes, all
the stuff, I got all kinds of credits everything else.
I was so smart, man, I mean, look, and then
they said, oh, yeah, you need one more PE credit.
What do you mean any of the PE credit? Well?
We I said, how do I not have one? Well,

(01:31):
football wasn't really a credit for PE this semester. We
changed it, so you need another semester of gym. I goo?
So you tell me my final year, my final semester.
I busted my ass for four years. So the when
I want to be in club met because I'm in college,
I'm going to Syracuse. I'm buying all the gear. You're
telling me I got to take zero period. Yeah, so

(01:51):
I had to take zero period PE, which meant, you know,
getting up and getting to school for like seven twenty
and I was so mad. I was so mad. But
at least a teacher took it easy on me and
said listen, just be my monitor. You don't have to
change for Jim. Just you know, do everybody's delayed at
large and everything like that too.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I thought that's what would have gotten you forced into
zero period, is they saw the results were lacking and
wanted to force you into the action. Instead, you get
to be a hall monitor. Come on, well, it wasn't
a hall monitor.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
It was just making sure people were prepared and and
you know, brought the right stuff for Jim and they
were able to change into what they were wearing. So no,
that was that was what it was. And I'm glad
he took I'm glad he took mercy on me because
I did not. I did not want any part of
that at all. But now I love zero week. Now
I love zero week because I don't have to get
up early. You'll have to get it early, so I
want to watch a game. That's the only time I
have to get up early. And that's the best part.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, it signals the right of passage. Obviously, depending on
where you are in the country, maybe your kids have
gone back to school, maybe you've had several brunch dates
to celebrate that you're not running around to camps or
anything anymore. A couple extra mimosas intaken along the way,
or maybe you just went back and took another nap
after they went back to back to school and got

(03:04):
out the door. But yeah, week zero, it launches us
into what is a frantic, chaotic tourly fall. And the
biggest thing is that we're not going to be talking
about all the nonsense of realignment and incompetent, ineffective leadership.
Northwestern pac twelve, you want to pick one, pick one

(03:26):
all all the way, I mean, go to the NC
double A and how they're just spinning around. Hey, let's negotiate.
Let's negotiate with you as to how much you're gonna
be suspended. No, forget about it. We actually will still
talk football games. That meant no, it's there. It gets
pushed to the wayside to not agree because we actually
get to talk about, you know, football players impacting our sensibilities,

(03:48):
our excitement, our wallets, and our fantasy football futures. So
it all comes together there.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
I like how you slip gambling in there, just like, hey,
remember now gambling really starting now? You just you just
slipped that right, and like no one would notice with
that gambling reference.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
No, no, one's gonna no, no, no. I was open and
transparent with it. I was standing here with the damn
sandwich board about it going. Betty begins week zero.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I'm gonna get gambling in here now. Okay, see you
want gambling, what Betty wants, I'll give you something right now.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
We have a nice slate on Saturday, right, that that's
to be not because we get Notre Dame and US Dame. Right,
we got Notre Dame. They're playing in Dublin. We have
USC playing San Jose State, We have a we have
a slew of other games, but those are the big ones, right,
I mean we have we there. Look at it this way,
there's no way you're not gonna turn on your television

(04:39):
on Saturday at any time in Nazie a college football game.
You're just not gonna see the normal amounts. You're gonna
be going crazy over UMass New Mexico State. But these
are your two games. Let me hit you with something
really big. You just heard the story. Nick Cokee brought
it to you in the updates. Caleb Williams the overwhelming
favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Overwhelming favorite and why
not right, best quarterback in college football. You're tak talking

(05:00):
about him last year. Oh, by the way, I told
her he was gonna win it last year and he did. Uh.
There's nothing he can do wrong. Overwhelming favorite. I get it.
He's not winning the Heisman Trophy this year.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I'll tell you what, He's still five to one as
an overwhelming favorite.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
He's not doing it. He's not doing it. However, I
will say this, your Heisman Trophy winner, Say is playing tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
You're getting Sun.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Tomorrow once again. Hell Singer and Ramos are gonna laugh.
I'm telling Hertily, as is all of America. As soon
as Helen prop this up.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I'm telling you no, people, wait, Garrett Trader plays right. No,
Syracuse does not play tomorrow. Although Garrett Strader stop. Sam
Hartman is going to win the Heisman Trophy. You're following
me on this.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
You're a fetishist.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Follow me, lady.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
The guy's name is Sam Sam.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Sam Sam said, yeah, yeah, you know, being your me
named Sam at quarterback has not been a great name
in the last few years.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
But someone's got to break Sam. It might be that guy,
be Ravens. He might he might want to change his name.
I'm going from Sam. I'm I'm gonna be Joe Howell.
Now I'm gonna be I'm gonna be searched in Howel.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Now that would be something.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Uh. Yes, I understand the run of Sam. It's kind
of like being a quarterback out of Ohio State into
into the NFL hasn't worked out lately. Justin fields. Maybe
the one guy. Uh. First of all, I want to
tell you I watch a lot of Sam Hartman the
last year's at Wake Forest, and the guy just does
everything well. He's not someone that you look at and say, Okay,
he's got a bazuka, but he's got a pretty strong arm.

(06:34):
Oh my god, he's he's accurate like Caleb Williams. No,
but he's really accurate. He's one of He's a player
that does everything well and he is incredibly smart. He
always makes the right throw. I can't tell you how
many times I've watched him going, what what's what's gonna
happen on this drive? And he somehow finds a way.
He always gets the ball the right receiver. Look, the
guy's coming off two seasons with seventy seven touchdowns. Okay,

(06:56):
he's got seventy seven touchdowns last year's the guy's been
really good at Now you're talking about him on a
team with incredible talent and a team that is going
to go either undefeated or one loss. Nore Dame is loaded.
Sam Hartman is the missing piece. That's why he was
the number one guy they want in the transfer portal.
He was a number one guy through There's a reason

(07:18):
why they wanted him. I could see Notre Dame running
the table, but a one loss Notre Dame team is
still getting in the CFP because it's Notre Dame. He's
gonna have all the attention every week. They have a
lot of big games and some of the teams they're playing. Look,
they got a lot of games against ranked teams. But
I'm not gonna buy how good Clemson is until I
see Hi. I'm not gonna buy how good USC is

(07:38):
until they actually win a big game that means something
in a big moment. So I'm gonna take Notre Dame
and I will roll with Sam Hartman all the way
to the Heisman Trophy. As Notre Dame rolls to the
College Football Playoff with either zero or one loss. I'm
telling you this guy is legit. You've heard a lot
of stories already about what kind of leader he is
in Notre Dame and what he's done coming into the program.
I'm telling you he's gonna grab hold the Heisman race.

(08:00):
And when you're the starting quarterback at Notre Dame, you're
gonna get a lot of the attention over everybody else.
Like Caleb Williams is the one player everybody knows nationally.
By this time tomorrow, everybody's gonna be saying, Wow, Dublin
is a really cool place. And the second thing is
that's Sam Hartman. He's really something. Trust me.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Week five, a home game against the Ohio State buck
Eys quarterback. Yet no, it's like.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Ohio State is right to the top five just because
they're Ohio State. Didn't even know where their quarterback is
gonna be yet.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Michigan's gonna rotate coaches. We'll get
to that in a bit. And then you've got Hey.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
By the way, I don't I gotta tell you, I
don't know if I can make uh the the second
half of coach if we need to, can I sweech?
I know you're doing you and I can switch you're
doing first half of game three, I can't make second
half of game two?

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Can we switch and do that with you think? Ok,
all right, cool, we'll make that happen. A little bit
of cash considerations, maybe an extra cup of coffee because
we'll have to get up a little earlier that day,
but that's okay. Yeah. And then in October you got
that date against USC Clemson, as you said later on,
mixed there in Pitt and Louisville and Duke and everything else.

(09:09):
And then well Stanford, if they're still fielding a team
to close out the year. I would be remiss if
I didn't close the loop with your Sam Howell stuff.
Before I get back to Hartman for a minute, is
that his Sam Holl's dad is a football coach named Duke.
Just to throw it out there, he's a head coach
of cut Person football. So maybe Sam should just go

(09:31):
by Duke. Okay, going forward?

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Do you know duke is Duke can be a good
or a bad name for foot for a football player
Because you think Duke and you think, okay, the Duke
is the name of the football and the Duke John
Wayne a great nickname. But then you think of like
Duke University and like, you know, Duke's not really that
good at football. I kind of Duke is one of
those days. It kind of gives and takes.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I thought it gave it a little bit of power there,
but uh, Hartman, here you go sixteen to one, as
high as eighteen to one looking at current odds as
you roll through again, Caleb Williams at either four or
five to one on most boards. But the schedule does
avail itself. We know the history of the pageantry and
obviously getting to start things off in Dublin, we had

(10:12):
a pretty big presence there for Fox Sports Radio between
two Pros and a Cup of Joe and the Dan
Patrick Show all week promoting the game and getting it
launched in which meant more promotion of the history. And
you've got a quarterback that that meets meets the mark
right talking about the statistics of the last couple of

(10:34):
years transferred portal and he becomes one of those all stars.
Right if you're saying, I where are guys of significance
that change, because that'll be the graphic on every to
lead every college broadcast in week zero, Week one, hell
into week four of here's the guys that moved in
case you don't have a scorecard in front of you,

(10:56):
we'll put one virtually up here in the way of graphics,
and and he's certainly gonna be there. And if they
go out and they get some style points, what the
spread is like twenty one or something like that, and
go up and put up a massive first half and
then he gets to do the Peyton Manning Queen's wave
and go and sit down because they're drubbing them. Yeah,

(11:16):
it becomes that launching pad into the discussion because we
know when it comes to the Heisman Trophy, no matter
what you do for the Encore, they don't like going
two years in a row. They just don't. They will
find another option in the voting because it's as we
talk about with awards, you and I for as long
as we've been together here on Fox Sports Radio, we

(11:39):
know it becomes the all right, who do we get
to push based on a breakthrough season? What was a
great story and a thread line through the year. I
mean rare that you see the NBA, right, Jokic doesn't
get a third MVP just because they didn't want to.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Give it to him.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Nah, you should probably should have want it more this year.
And then past years.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Nah, nah, we're gonna move on. Same thing here. Well,
it's gonna bean. We go back almost what almost fifty
years at this point. Yeah, to the two time winner
of Archie Griffin.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah. No, it's like in the Simpsons when they nominate
Flanders and Flanners says, well, I don't know if I
should and Homer Juck jumps in and goes someone else,
someone else, someone else.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
That's college football.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
That's college football. It's what they want. Today's show brought

Save at Progressive dot Com. Now the issue for Caleb Williams,
it's not suddenly that the guy's gonna fall off a cliff,
the guy's gonna stink. It's that he won last year

(12:38):
with an unbelievable season in which USC was in the
thick of the playoff chase all the way to the end.
You have to duplicate that and more. If you're gonna win,
if you put out the same exact season, it's gonna
be someone else, someone else, someone else. You need to
go even further beyond what you did a year ago,
and what are the odds he can do that? I
mean it's it's yes, it's part on any new toy,

(13:00):
but also it's while we've seen this, well, you should
be enough to win it again. No, it's not how
it works. I mean, Shack should have been the m
v P every year in the NBA, but it wasn't
He did the same thing every year when he's the MVP.
Well yeah, but no, he's not with someone else's more
valuable this year. How the Lakers are winning three championships
in a row, I don't understand. Yeah, No, it's someone
that's just how it goes. That's just how the voters go.
He's got to go above and beyond what he did

(13:23):
last year, or they're gonna give it to someone else
and it's gonna be Sam Hartman and I'll be able
to go.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam
and I don't we have an ex quarterback after they
depose Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Ooh okay, like three yeah, yeah, because because Zach Wilson,
they'll trade him for a first round pick. Uh yeah,
not Sam Sam Hartman comes in and he takes.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
A couple of years and it takes over Are you
able to will your position to someone because it sounds
like Aaron Rodgers wanted to put it in writing that
he would just hand it back to Zach Wilson when
he's ready to shed his football playing coil. Yeah, is
that possible? Like it's a will I bequeath you starting
role for the Jets. Otherwise Sam Hartman could be that

(14:03):
guy for you. The other thing with USC, just real
quick though, is in theory they'll play a bit of
defense this year. And I say that in theory.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
See, I'm never falling for them. I will get into USC,
but I'm not you know, you.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Know what I'm saying though, Like we're not We're not
going to fifty five forty seven games again. Maybe maybe
they play a little bit of defense, which means in
the second half, I don't know, you can run the
ball and run the clock out and just get out
of town.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Twitter at out about a fresco or x at How
about a Fresca X at Swollen Dome? And I still
do the X with my arms When.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
I say that, I know you do.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
I mean I don't know how long that's gonna go.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
No, you've got degeneration X on the brain. There's no
question about it. You're you're channeling your inner Triple H.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Write it down, Sam Hartman, Hei's a trophy winner, Notre
Dame into the college football play You know, you know
what I wish. I wish I miss Beano Cook every day.
If that this is I would have him on. He
would go absolutely well, there's a reason why you're the
smartest man on the rad that's a pinocookie live miss
Pino every day. I just learned to Discover credit cards
do something pretty awesome. At the end of your first year.

that's right, everything you earned is double cash back from trips,
restaurants all doubled. Seriously though, see terms. Check it out
for yourself at discover dot com slash match. We'll have
more football on the way, but coming up next a
controversy that nobody saw coming that has now gone worldwide.

That's next. Jason Smith Mike Harmon in for Doug Gottlieb.

Fox Sports Radio, The Doug Gottlieb Show. Jason Smith Mike
Harmon in for Doug. Today. This hour of the show
brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy
and affordable. Get a multi policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat,
ATV and more all your protection of one plays Bundle
and Save at Progressive dot Com. Well, we have a

(16:08):
global controversy that shows no signs of slowing down. But
before we get to that, this comes out today, and boy,
I tell you, the hits just keep on coming. For
the women's national team in soccer, they have dropped to
their lowest ranking in twenty years. All right, United States,
For the first time in six years, they are not

(16:30):
the number one team in the United's in the world.
Sweden's not the United States out of the top of
the ranking. They have held the number one spot since
June twenty seventeen and now they have slipped out of
the top two for the first time since FIFA started
ranking teams worldwide in two thousand and three. Now there

(16:50):
is a there is I do have one little bit
of silver lining for the United States, but before we
get to that, this just shows you and all the
headline that you've seen in all the stories about the
drama about sweatsuits and interviews and commercials, and the United
States women's national team was just not good. They just
weren't good enough. That's all. It has nothing to do

(17:12):
with what happened offfield. You can you can get into
what the culture around the team was like and does
it need to be better. Sure, that's why they've got
rid of Adanofsky. But you don't sit here and tell me, oh,
had that just happen, Oh we had a couple of injuries.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
No.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Bottom line, this is a team that got knocked out
in the first game of the knockout round. They did
not look good in any of the four games they played.
They're just not good. They just all these players We've
talked about it on our show at night. Hey, fourteen
players playing in their first World Cup. There's a lot
of players playing in their last World Cup too, because
this is this is not a case of oh, we
have a lot of stars that we just need time.

(17:48):
Are Sophia Smith and Trinity Rodman gonna be great players
or are they just the best of what we have
right now? And Rodman's a name, so she's doing commercials.
I didn't see any of that in the World Cup.
I didn't see any breakthrough superstars, just waiting four years
of wait till the Olympics next year. The old guard
is too old. Alex Morgan is not the same player
and she showed it in the World Cup. She would

(18:09):
at the best that you could say about her as well.
She was spotty, but she's not the goal scorer she was.
The IaaS doesn't have people put the ball in the
back of the net and they lost. They need it.
They need a change, and that's why it's good there's
a coaching change, because they need to change from the
top down. This needs to go from coaches to how
they do things to different players and I expect to
see a lot of new players getting chances by the

(18:30):
time by the time this year rolls around we get
to the Olympics, because that's how they're gonna win. This
wasn't we got to the We got to the finals
and lost in penalties. This was we lost in the
We lost in the first knockout game we played, and
we had a chance. With two players, you would think
they're gonna they're gonna end this all right. Rappino's gonna
end it. Nope, Sophia Smith is gonna end it, Nope,
and we wind up going home. It's not anything about

(18:52):
outside stuff. This is about we just aren't good enough,
and nobody wants to say it, but that's the truth.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yeah, I mean some of it. The outside noise is
fine because sometimes you start reading your own press clippings
and and maybe the focus, attention to detail and process
changes along the way. And that's certainly something Lindsay Iran
did in an interview talking to some of the former
members of the squad and you know, on a podcast

(19:22):
and and kind of intimated to that. You know, because
of the schedule you're coming from the NWSL season, basically, hey,
meet at that airport and then we're gonna fly across
across the globe. Okay. It's like they were handing out
tickets to become part of Ocean's eleven flying in. It's like,
here's your ticket, you need to get to Vegas. And

(19:42):
then on'd you guys get a group rate? I mean,
all of that stuff as you float through. And obviously
the coaching issue. They put in a guy that they liked,
and well, sometimes that doesn't work. Sometimes they still need
to push the buttons. And they fixed the glitch. His
contract was going to expire at the end of the year.
They went off a space, said see you later, and
off he goes into the sunset. Fourteen new players, aging players,

(20:07):
not a lot of time to work together. Haran kind
of talked about the training that they did do together
that maybe they weren't as you know, the optimization of
that time and getting things flowing didn't work. You're missing
five players that would have been playing significant minutes due
to injury. And then father time gets us all along

(20:30):
the way. And look, you know, Sophia Smith had the
breakout game against Vietnam. We got excited and then you
realize how bad Vietnam really was as as the tournament was.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
No.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I mean, look, look, someone's got to be last, right, right,
somebody's got to be the team that gets bludgeoned. Well, yeah,
you watched other teams put up a lot of goals
with ease. We had a lot of shots and they
played that I don't know the box and won or
the eight minute a box defense, whatever you want to
whichever other sport you want to bring it into to

(21:02):
where shots weren't necessarily quality shots. But in the end, yeah,
the fact that they only moved down to three is
actually kind of surprising. Sweden, Spain wins it all, England
behind the US, France behind the like, I'm a bit
surprised that the fall was only to the end of
the metal stand.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Well, and now here's where I can turn things a
little bit rosier and give you a what if you
ready for me?

Speaker 3 (21:29):
They got Perry positive.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Let's go now. The big winner of the World Cup,
the big United States star who was the big winner
of the World Cup because there was a big winner,
was Carly Lloyd. Any doubt she was the big winner.
All of a sudden, she became the voice of American soccer,
someone that everybody remembers. Her performance in winning the World
Cup in twenty fifteen was out of this world. She's

(21:50):
been a great player on the US women's team for
until she retired in twenty twenty one. She's got the cachet.
Everybody knows her. She spoke on TV. Everybody paid a
ten to what she had to say. Right Now, some
things I think she was probably a little off with,
Like I said, is it really about sweatsuits? Or is
it really about this? But she talked about the culture.
Nobody knows the culture of the US women's team more
than she does. She became the biggest new star in

(22:13):
United States soccer. Right. She's someone who when she speaks,
everybody's going to pay attention to what she says because
of the cachet that she has as a former women's
national team player. Now that's gonna serve her well. Because
she'd had to make a business decision, right, she had to say, Okay,
when I go on TV for Fox, am I just
gonna try to, you know, sunshine things up a little bit?
Or am I gonna talk how it is? And if

(22:35):
it's bad and people don't want to hear it, I'm
still gonna say it. And she made the correct business
decision because her comments cut through. It was Wow. It
seemed a little bit over the top, but it got
everybody's attention, right. Alexi Lawless is defending her and saying, yes, Carly,
what you said. What you said? She became the big
breakout Starr. Now she's gonna be the voice of soccer
and she can be. She's gonna be the number one

(22:56):
soccer analysts for the women's team. Which are which is
the latest dynasty that we have in sports? Like we
talk about the Yankees and the Lakers. Hey, women's national
team is there too. But I'll throw this out there
for you. Okay, throw this out there for you. She's
gonna be an incredible analyst and someone we listen to
for a long time doing podcasts talking about her experiences.

(23:18):
Maybe the best choice for the new head coach women's
national team is Carly Lloyd. Maybe she's the one rather
than bring in somebody completely from the outside that has
to figure out a way to do through what's the
best way evaluate the players that you're not that familiar with.
Carly Lloyd is coming in a little bit from the
outside and knows Okay, I know what the standards are,

(23:40):
I know what it has to be. The pressure is
not too much. I'm gonna be more unflinching than other
coaches are. Because she went on TV and and and
ripped a lot of people for their effort and what
went on. So you know she's not gonna walk in
there suddenly, Oh, our old friend is our coach. She
walks in there with a little bit of the Hey,
if I don't snap to it, I'm not gonna be
on this team. Maybe Carly Lloyd is the best choice

(24:01):
fred coach, and maybe that's part of the plan. Hey,
I know this isn't working. I might be the one
to be able to solve this. Now she's out there
in the national conscious and she becomes a dark horse
candidate for this job. And suddenly, when it's all done,
Carly Lloyd is your new women's national team head coach.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Look at that. I know a lot of folks were
lobbying for the English coach Serena Weigman potentially to come
and assume the throne. I say, you just go back
to Jill Ellis. You don't like me, I don't you.
Most of you are aging out. You're not gonna be
here your age, we're not gonna I'm not worried about
whether you like me or not. Because you're going off

(24:38):
into your post playing career.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
You know you're in Yeah, I mean sorry, I don't
mean Look, I'm going Carly Lloyd here.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
I'm just gonna be direct with brass tacks about where
we're at in the timeline of these women's career. And
it says nothing about their at them as people and
as players. It is just the natural life cycle of
a playing career, and we watched it on display in
this World Cup. Does it mean that you can't tinker
some things? And some of these players move forward with

(25:08):
reduced roles in minutes like you had with Megan Rapino
this time around? Sure, but are they going to be
effective in those minutes unlike Rapino was in this World Cup?
We'll see who's going to be able to give you
the swift kick. Jill ellis coming back. Some thing's old
are new once again, because if you haven't experienced it,

(25:29):
it's new to you, right the old NBC line when
they showed reruns after the seasons, it d Hey, if
you didn't watch it in the fall, guess what it's
plate being new to you.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
I'm sorry, Megan, you've been in thirty eight you for
a while now, but now you've aged out. Its Morgan,
you're in thirty four you you've aged out as well,
Sophia Smith, you're in twenty two. To you, I'm sorry,
you're all aging You're all aging out in the program.
So yeah, maybe Carly Lloyd. Right, just think about Carly
Lloyd for a second. Now, that's the big story that
comes to us courtesy the United States. Look the the fall,

(26:00):
the fall they have. But what's happening right now worldwide?
The number one topic, the number one story right now.
The players, the Spain players, the Spanish players are now
boycotting because the president of the football of Spain football,
Spanish football, won't quit after he was shown kissing a

(26:21):
player unsolicited following Spain winning the World Cup. Right, you've
seen the video by now. Luis Ruby Albis, who is
the president of the Spanish football Federation, was caught kissing
a player, just grabbed a player, kiss her on the
lips during the celebration, and that's gone viral. We've seen it,
and we heard reports a day ago that he was
going to wind up quitting. Well, guess what he says,

(26:44):
He's not quitting. And now Spain has to push him
out and the players have said they are going to
boycott because he refuses to quit. And what I can't
get over Mike. Is that not that this guy won't
quit because I understan Dan, Hey, I don't want to
lose my job. But what he has said about defending

(27:05):
his actions because you can't just grab somebody and kiss
him on the lips, that that is one hundred percent
not okay. I get that. Maybe, and I'm willing to
give him the benefit of the doubt that he got
caught up in the moment and he was excited and
he kissed the player on the lips. I I I
get I get that. Maybe he was caught up in
the moment, sitting on the on the stand there the
victory of the medals. I get that. But boy, when

(27:27):
you do that, sorry, you have to deal with the
ramifications to come. And the number one thing you should
say is, hey, I am really sorry. I I did
not know. I got I got carried away. I should
not have done that. That's my fault, right. But instead
the guys doubled down and said, quote, we live in
a country of laws. Is a consensual kiss enough to
remove me? I didn't see a lot of consensual stuff there.

(27:49):
I just saw him grabbing the grabbing the player and
kissing her. That that's all I saw. Yeah, I'm gonna
fight statement. I'm gonna fight until the end. I hope
the laws followed and that there's no reason to remove me.
It won't happen. Wow, are you kidding? Are you? That's
that's the direction you want to go and say it
was consent? What are you gonna do? What are you
gonna do to me? Right? What are you gonna do

(28:09):
to me? What would the laws don't apply to me
because I can do whatever I want to. Wow, You've
got to be kidding me with that, man.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Come on, Yeah, Jenny Hermoso was the player in question quote.
I want to clarify, as you can see in the
images that in no time did I consent to the
kiss that he gave me. I won't tolerate that my
word is called into question, and even less so that
words are invented, which I did not say. Ruby Aalis
said it was part of a quote social assassination by

(28:39):
false feminists when he was making a speech. Twenty three players,
all twenty three players of the squad that just won,
said they will not play for their country again so
long as Ruby Aalis isn't in charge. Remember they also
had twelve players who told them to pound sand and
wouldn't play for Jorge Vilda. Right, there were fifteen players
that had issued statements long before the World Cup. Only

(29:03):
three of those followed through and didn't actually play for
the World Cup winning squad. But now you have this,
the statement signed by their entire squad, and fifty eight
former players added that none of them will return to
play for the national team while he remains in his position.
All now, you got all of the condemnation from Alex

(29:27):
Morgan and so many other players globally rising up against
this and claims of culture or whatever. Now there's no
way different circumstances.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Yes, in no way, shape or form was what he did. Okay, Now,
if he apologized for it and they accepted the apology, okay,
I'm with whatever that. But the fact that he goes
down and you know the worst part of this is
that you can tell what he thinks about women, like
how he thinks about women that I'm just going to
blow it off and say this was consensual. Well she

(29:59):
said it was, No, it was consensual, And then you
just read this statement he made there about false feminists.
This tells you how he feels about women, like rayriarfet
that they are not equal to men, and I'm going
to use that because that's what I've always felt, and
that's kind of hubris that, you know. In this case,
I'm glad it's going to take him down because this
guy should not be in position of being in charge
of anything after this is his response to it. I

(30:22):
was willing to give them the benefit to day you
say you're sorry, you apologize, because actually need to do Hey,
well I lost my head there for a second. If
they accept the apology and she accepts the apology, okay,
but this is how you go down and say, basically,
I can grab a girl and and I can grab
someone and kiss him and just call it consensual. What
are you doing? Man? What do you do with the
world has gone insane?

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Here's the next step? Jason the Spain and Sports Council.
So the Secretary of State for Sport, a guy now
named Victor Francos. He's confirmed that the council is looking
to remove him, but they've got to bring a complaint
to get this. The country's administrative sports court. Wow, there's
a sports courch which is abbreviated TAD, which is tad's

(31:06):
a really good band.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
By the way, if you ever want to go down
a rabbit hole. But you're not telling me. Ruby Albis
is the head of this, right like they got to
bring this in front of it. He's the guy that's
the judge, right, No, no, no, they just bring it
to the Sport court. And here's Franco's quote. This assembly,
far from resolving the situation, increase the controversy. The explanations
aren't sufficient that Ruby al has brought.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Today, they begin to procedure to suspend from his rf
EF presidency and as the person responsible for Spanish sport,
I have to apologize to the players.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
They didn't deserve this.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Neither the CSD again, the Sports Council nor its president
can remove him, and he actually says flat out, I
can't sack anybody, but we can take the case to
TAD if we believe a serious offense has been committed,
and TAD can approve it or not. So this now
goes to their globe, their their country's court. I hope

(32:02):
we get to watch the proceedings. I'd love to watch
this play.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Out Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike gets swollen dome.
I hope it ends with him out after his react.
The reaction just makes me sick. It just makes my
stomach turn that he's would say that he's just that
kind of attitude that yeah, I didn't do anything wrong.
I can do whatever I want to.

Boy, Johnny Ramos was itching to play this song. You
could tell he was itching to play under pressure. Oh
that ramp up was beautiful. That was let you call
a tease in the radio business. Hey, where did your appetite?
Fox Sports Radio? Jason Smith, Mike Harmon in for Doug

You look at the big clock on the wall that
tells you it is time to play a game.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
This is gay time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
All right, Nick cope, what are we playing today? All right? Guys?

Speaker 6 (34:08):
Today's game is where we ask Jason and Mike to
lend us there clairvoyant ways and tell us the future.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Let's start in baseteen and three year trying to a question.
There nicely dog.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
They win the first fourteen games, clinch home field and
rest the star on they last three, they lose three.

Speaker 6 (34:27):
All right, can't wait. Gotta be a lot of fun
there for the Jets. Let's start with the biggest story
in baseball the past couple of days. Show Hey Otani,
that ucl tair getting a second opinion, he'll continue to dage.
What I want to know, guys, is will we ever
see a season like this year again? From show Heyo Tani?

Speaker 3 (34:44):
No, No, because you can't.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
He's not gonna pitch again. This is two serious arm
injuries five years apart, and you don't suddenly get your
arm healthier as you get older. He'll still be a
big superstar, but we've lost the unicorn. And maybe he
can come back and close. I could see that. Potentially,
Hey comes into the ninth inning and pitch and closes
a game. I could see that, But being the player

(35:08):
he was, coming back and pitching not happening. He'll be
a big star, he'll be a big hitter, and he'll
get a big Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge type contract in
the offseason. But he's a hitter now, he's positioned player.
I can't see him coming back.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
To pitch four hundred million plus to be a DH
and occasional outfielder slash first baseman. But you stole my
thunder with the closure thing because Johnny Ramos teased it
by playing under Pressure. That was gonna be a Setrix
music man.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
He started playing that song like three minutes before we
started talking.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I got it here on Great Show Friday. No, no, no,
you got the baseline and you just started bounces like
all right, here we go, here we go club time
on a Friday.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
All right, all right, guys. N L MVP race. Ronald
Acunya Junior has been the favorite for a while, still is,
But look at what Mookie Betts has done in August,
hitting four sixty three, seven homers, twenty one driven in.
Will Mookie be able to continue this pace and win
his second MVP award?

Speaker 2 (36:03):
No, I think the MVP is right there on the
Dodgers and it's Freddy Freeman. A Mookie is having a
great season. Freddie Freeman has I think every hit he
has as a double, and I get that there's gonna
be a big push to give it to one of
the Braves. But between Acuna and Olsen, yeah, they're both great,
But the Braves have eight All Stars. Right, It's like, like,

(36:24):
how do you pick? They have eight all stars. The
Dodgers really are doing it with their top two guys
and Bets and Freeman, And between the two of them,
if I had to pick between the two, I'll go
a little bit more towards Freddy Freeman than I will
towards Mookie Bets.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
I keep waiting for a good tag team match and
you throw Olsen in there and they just get in
the squared circle and settle it there. Friend will turn
on friend, foe on foe. You know, I hate the Cubs,
but he's Cody Bellinger worth a Looksie, even though he's
twenty home runs.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Oh just hitting that, just hitting the Dodger fans right
in the heart with that dag legitimately.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Though, right, I mean, look at the season he's having
his post Dodger world. Normally they go when they flounder,
and he's flourishing. You fly, young Cody by the day,
fly like you need to have the attention over a
long period of time. And those are the four players
we just talked about, and the guys getting all the attention.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Yeah, and Bellinger might be a little bit too little,
too little, too late, and the stats are not gonna
add up. Look in the end, I think the voters
are gonna go for Acuna because they're gonna go he's
the very first thirty five eighty player we've ever had. Admit, Yes, yes,
I get it, I get it, I get so I
think in the end it's gonna wind up going to Acunya.
But Dodger, MVP and Mookie Betts has been great. But yeah,
give me Freddy Freeman. Guy's at in three forty.

Speaker 6 (37:38):
All right, guys, let's squeeze in one more here, let's
go to fantasy football.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Here.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
Rams receiver Cooper Cup says he feels like he'll be
ready for Week one. Will culp finish as a top
five receiver in fantasy this year?

Speaker 2 (37:51):
I will say no, but I'm gonna give you a
silver lining to two at well, remember that name. He's
a bee.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
I love.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
I love him as a sleeper this year, A couple
of wide receivers I like he's one of them.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
And if you draft him as a sleeper, you'll be
dancing perhaps in it too too. Yeah, Cup, outside the
top five, I just don't think the offense is gonna click.
And he has a safety valve. Maybe PPR you'll have
some of those big days where he's got eight for
forty five to give you some points, and maybe his score.
I just don't think it churns the same way.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Oh so there it is the psychic Jason Smith Mike
Harmon in for Doug Gottlie today. Coming up next, we
have a couple of big quarterback stories on the way
