Speaker 2 (00:24):
What's up? What's Up?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
The Doug Gotleib Show broadcast live every day from the
tyreight dot com studios tyright dot com. What we get
there on match selection, fast free shipping, Free road has
protection over ten thousand recommended dollars. Tywright dot COM's way
tire buying should be okay, I love this, I love
the We have these expressions we use all the time,

(00:50):
and many of us do not know where they come from,
or a lot of us misuse them like I'm big
on will say it's tough road to hoe. Like you
don't ho a road, you ho a row. It's a
tough row to hoe.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
It's also I couldn't care less. If you say I
could care less, that means you care. That's the opposite
of what you're trying to expression. So so I don't
like when people misused expressions, But I also know that
there's lots of expressions out there that you've got to
be fascinated. Where did they? Where did they come from?
So I want to talk about putting one's foot in

(01:31):
one's mouth. Ah, he ready put his foot in his
mouth there, But where does that come from? Jason Stewart,
You've done the research. What's the answer.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Let's see here. I One site says that it is
derived from the phrase to put one's foot in it,
an early expression that just means to do something embarrassing. Now,
a different variant is that it's a reference to foot
and mouth disease, which appeared in the mid was it

(02:01):
twentieth century, where foot mouth disease is a medical disease
affects animals were hooves and their hooves and their cows,
pigs and sheep deadly disease. So that's that's not a
very fun variant of it. But so whichever one you want,
foot in mouth disease or it's just a variation of
the phrase to put one's foot in it, like step

(02:25):
in it, you know, put your.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Foot in your mouth. That's kind of disappointing. It's got
to be foot in mouth disease, right, and that's kind
of feels like it's.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Probably, yeah, probably that's what's a very pleasant image, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
No, but what's your what's your favorite expression?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
You know what? I I just I just proposed one
or I introduced one to my hot girlfriend Christina.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Your own is the new one?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
No, I just said it out loud and she's like,
what what is that? And I'm like, so we were
trying to map out how to get to a place
and I just like kind of like said dismissed it
and said that's six one half dozen the other yeah
you go. And she's like what, I'm like, six one
half doesn't know? You never heard of that? No? Never?
And uh So, me being a smart ass, I I

(03:13):
googled how often it's used on the internet, and I
just I always send her links to when it's used
because she's, you know, she's fifty years old and she
didn't know the phrase. So I have to kind of
make fun of her.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
I have one, Doug, but I'm not is this a
You tell me if it's being used the right way?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Killing two birds with one stone.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Sure, okay, I like that.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
Sure, And the point of that would be, like you
get two things done with only having to do one thing?

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Is that the theory of that one?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yep? Okay?

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah. In Russia the expression is two.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Hairs with one rock.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I think that's okay, yes, so.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yeah, it's it's uh, that's emphasizing multitasking.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
I thought you were going for like a current events joke,
like two Ukrainians and one something. Oh no, But that
reminds me of another phrase that I kind of like it.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
It reminds me of another phrase like gohad.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Seriously, folks, one in the hand beats two in the bush.
That's that's another great phrase, like if you've got something secured,
take advantage of it and don't worry about the options
that aren't secured.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
You know, right, that's a hunting expression, isn't it. It
must be if they come from hunting, like right, like
if you get like a you get a small you
get a small one, you're you know it's or it's
like fish, like you throw back the little fish and
you go after big one in the hands better than
two in the bush.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Nick cope, do you have any expressions that you like
to use.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
You know, I got a fun one that that just
came to mind. Blank or get off the pot.

Speaker 7 (04:48):
I like that one. Get on with it already.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well that's just comes from people going in there and
they're just on there all day.

Speaker 8 (04:56):
Right.

Speaker 7 (04:57):
Also like cool as a cucumber.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Cools the cucumbers nice. That's a that's a good one.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
I don't know if cucumbers are actually cool or if
it's just alliteration. It just sounds.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
I think it's a literation, but cucumbers are generally cool.

Speaker 7 (05:13):
I like it to keep him in the fridge.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I like a good cucumber.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
And Doug.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Don't a lot of these terms get used in sports
the time, right, Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yes, yes, Like Randy Johnson killed two birds with one.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Bird with one wrong when when stuff?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
You know, I I still think the Randy Johnson being
a photog is hilarious considering how he went crazy on
photogs and he.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Was pitching for the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
That's just great irony, the most ironic thing ever there.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'm just going for a walk here on Man.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
He had one of those gigantic voices, you know, like
this big guys had these big voices where it almost
feels like they've they had gigantism weird. I've been doing
radio long enough that I remember when that happened. I
do so I bring up two birds, not two birds,
I bring up putting you foot in your mouth, because
that's what Kelly Stafford did, right. She said her husband's

(06:14):
having trouble relating to his teammates, that he actually went
to the manager, the equipment manager, to try and get
like a printed out board so he knew who everybody was.
They're all on their phones all the time. Here's Kelly
Stafford kind of retracking on our podcast.

Speaker 8 (06:31):
On a topic that I think it's relatable to the
fact that it's hard to relate to someone who is
ten years younger.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
It was written actually about it was a very relatable thing.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
And.

Speaker 8 (06:43):
I do think that's entirely true. But I'm not in
an NFL lockerom. I'm not spending every day with these teammates.
Obviously there's relationships. He spends more time with them than
he does with me.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
During the season.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
That was tough.

Speaker 8 (06:56):
I say all the time, even my podcas as probably
not the best if your wife's names in the media
when it comes to if it's talking career out sports,
and I feel pretty bad last week, but I'm gonna
move forward, you know, hopefully those guys and I know
those guys know Matthew and don't read into it because

(07:19):
as we know, media can stir things up. But I
put my foot in my mouth pretty good.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
This is not the media stirring things up. You said it.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
The media consert things out like I don't know you
want to say like no one, no one made her
say that. We pinned her down and say say something
weird about your husband, Hey, he died. He can't get away,
he can't relate to the current players, like, oh, we
got it, we started up. Nothing's more obnoxious than the
if you have a podcast, on some level, you're in

(07:49):
the media. You don't have to be a true neutral
media member at some level. That that's media, that's new media.
So you're blaming everybody else like that's you, that's not
anybody else. And then the other part too, it is
nobody made you say it. So she's obviously carrying some
guilt because Matthew called her in. First of all, I've

(08:11):
never been I'd never been that keen on the why
are we calling Matthew Stafford, and we feel like we
call it Matthew because she calls him Matthew.

Speaker 9 (08:19):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Where are you on this? Jase too.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I think that there was a couple angles here. I
think we've all we've all put our foot in our
mouth that we know that's feeling. The fact that she
went on her podcast and said that without running it
by him is odd. It so her taking it back
almost admits that that she was just kind of riffing

(08:45):
and didn't think it would be a big deal. And
when she says the media takes things and runs with
it or whatever, Yeah, all the blogs picked it up
because it was it was so out of school. It
was such a you know, an ice ore for someone
to And then how about the other angle to this,
You put together a couple of things, right, Remember Michael

(09:06):
Lombardi came out with that report in July that the
Rams feverishly tried to trade Stafford. The Rams denied it,
and then there was that report where they went to
Stafford to take a pay cut for this this cap
or whatever, and he denied them. And then you're hearing
this scuttle butt from his wife how he's not relating

(09:28):
to players. Maybe he doesn't want to put in the
effort to relate to the players because he's not necessarily
happy being on a team that's going to lose fifteen games.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
No, I totally agree. Well, plus, he didn't.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Want to get hit anymore, exactly got a new offensive
line again to keep trying to rework the offensive line. Like, dude,
I don't think he wants to get hit anymore. I
think he's he's All of this stuff has clearly been said.
She just pull it out of her backside, right, Do
we really think she she did that?

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Not at all. No, I think he said that to
her over dinner or whatever or pillow.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
So he's like, man, I then just on their phones.
I don't know. I don't know who any of these
guys are. So she didn't really put her foot in
her mouth. She just spoke a little bit out of turn.
And she's like, well, I don't know, I wasn't. I'm
not in the locker room every day, but he is.
And then she she kind of did the victim thing.

(10:23):
Did you guys hear the victim the victim thing where
she's like, and you know, he spends more time with
them than he does with me, You're like, oh, oh,
oh man, that's so sad.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Are you okay?

Speaker 1 (10:40):
You know what? You're okay, You're good enough, you're smart enough,
and gosh darning to people like you. So I don't
think she needed a pass. I don't think what she
said was all that bad. But by bringing it up
and by acting like she has to apologize and walking
back and I didn't perform the duties up to my
expectations type of thing, You're.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Like, Wow, why was it so bad? Clearly didn't go
over well with Matthew.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
He was not happy, Like when I tell you this stuff,
this has to stay between us. On the other hand,
if she's not willing to share the details of what
it's really like to be married to an NFL quarterback,
then what is the actual point of her podcast? She's
between a rock and a hard place. There's a there's
an expression, rock and a hard place. What are you

(11:24):
gonna say?

Speaker 10 (11:24):
There?

Speaker 5 (11:25):
I said, what's the point of any podcast? When you
think about that, when it comes to what is your point?
What are you trying to accomplish?

Speaker 7 (11:31):
I mean, what is what John?

Speaker 9 (11:32):
Are you going? Like?

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Really philosophical? What's the point? Well, first of all, Look,
what is the point of podcast? I just look at
last year's schedules. The worst team had thirteen losses. I
was the Texans, and for some reason, Jason gave my
Rams fifteen losses this year.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
That's not gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
By the way, They're not gonna be worse than the Colts,
who had a who was one of the did two
things work last year? They hired somebody who never coached
before in professional football.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
And you're gonna give the Rams more in them? Are
you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
I mean, I use hyperbole just to get a reaction
on the job. But they're not gonna lose or win
any more than three or four games, right they will? Yes? Wow, Okay, you.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Think they're gonna win more than four games?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Cooper cups still out, Like, who are they beating them?
I guess they play Arizona twice? There you go, there's
two twice.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Take a look at the sketchule.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, but you know other people are looking at the
schedule going, we got the Rams there, we can win
the Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
I think four is if they had over under. I
don't know what the over under is, Doug, but if
it's four I'll take the over.

Speaker 9 (12:37):

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Let's get to the gambler. All right, So we got
some rules with this week's gambler. Okay, I want you to,
Jay Stu, you come up with the Jays two team parlay,
right that actually is trademarked. Did you guys see him
on Shark Tank? I thought that was impressedive he got
a Shark tank with that one. But we're all going

(13:12):
to have a parlay. Okay, it's got a combined NFL
Week one future lines of prop et cetera. Can't just
be a standalone bet for the gambler. We're a week
away from NFL season kicking off less than.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
A week away.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
I need your bet. Go ahead, jay Stu, you got
the Jay's two team parlay.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
You're ready?

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Okay, So the rules are it needs to be NFL
because I have two college football picks from way.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
You know what, do you want to save the NFL
for next week?

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah? We can do that. But so that's fine because
because my Jays two team parlay is a must for
this week. So uh, Colorado travels to TCU. I have
take TCU giving the points, Doug, I have no faith
in Deon Sanders, and I want you to Jay Stew
team parlay that with New Tennessee. Tennessee goes on the

(14:06):
road to play a really bad Virginia team and they're
giving twenty seven and a half. I think they're road.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
I think they're at home.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
I'm looking at that Virginia.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
It's it's it's in it's in Nashville.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
That's what I met. So it's a neutral site. But
just a memo to Virginia fans, Matt Schaub is not
walking through that door. Put Tennessee with TCU for my
j Stew team parlay this week.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
And the best.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
You can't hope for that, Nick Cope, you.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Get to get into this fun. Give us your pick
of the weekend.

Speaker 7 (14:45):
All right?

Speaker 6 (14:45):
So I need to do a parlay. Correct, That's that's
what I'm hearing.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
No, we're gonna do that next week. Okay, have a pick.
Just give us your pick.

Speaker 6 (14:52):
Okay, I got I got tonight eight o'clock eastern on
the Islands. Where you need to go to get right
here at the end of this Friday, see huh at Hawaii.
Stanford is favored by three. They've got a new coach
and Troy Taylor, who I like. He was great at
sax State, but they lost a ton of the transfer portal.
They very well could be the worst team in the

(15:12):
Pac twelve this year. Meanwhile, Hawaii year two under Timmy
Chang probably not gonna be a great year, but they
showed something last week against Vandy. They're at home game
under their belt. They're still playing in that makeshift stadium,
still renovating Aloha Stadium. I'll take the Rainbow Warriors plus
three over Stanford.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Could you go, Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
There you go, Hawaii, Hawaii. Pretty good, pretty good?

Speaker 5 (15:40):
Ramos Well, I just told Nick, because he was walking
the hall, you're gonna love this one. I'm not gonna
love it, but I'm going for money. I'm not worried about.
The Giants are at San Diego tonight to take on
the Padres. The Giants are underdogs. Don't know why they
beat the Padres as I was a six to nothing.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Smoked him, smoked him.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
The Padres are are going down fast and tonight's no difference.
I'll take the Giants plus Oh, you can get him
at plus one fifteen plus one twenty. Take the Giants
tonight and quickly dug. I saw that the Rams they're
over and under for wins this year is six and
a half.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
That's a little high for me. I like the four.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
I don't like the six and a half. So I
would take the under on the Rams wins at six
and a half, just to let you know.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
I'm with you too. I mean, outside of those two
Arizona Cardinals games, tell me what you're counting on. Okay,
I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with the college footall picks.
We'll get. Chris Filika's opinion momentarily that gun Cal takes
on North Texas all right now as much as like

(16:50):
what I say so, Cal's new game run court, run
game coordinator, offensive line coach was the offensive coach offensive
coordinator under Sephalate Trail last year, all right, and they
got fired, so there's some familiarity there. North Texas new
head coach is Eric Morris. Eric Marrish was the offense

(17:10):
coordinator at Washington State. They beat col last year. Cow's
I think really well coached with Justin Wilcox, but they
got the same issue that Stanford does. Transfer Port has
been rough on them and it's hard to get kids
at times in the school. I like North Texas a
six point dog. I liked the to win straight up,

(17:30):
straight up. I'm gonna take North Texas over Cow. That's
my pick of the week. When he's sitting at the tab,
let me hear you, Nick Cope. I gotta hear Nick Cope.

Speaker 7 (17:41):
You don't want to hear it.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Come on, you got.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
What no when to food, no when to walk away, running.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Money, when sting at the game. Let's welcome in. It's
Doug outleb Show here on Fox Sports. Traded Life from
the tyrack dot com studios. Chris Lka was a head
researcher at ESPN, and of course you saw him as
the bear on College Game Day. He has departed that

(18:20):
place as so many of us have, and now he's
our colleague here at Fox. You'll see him on Big
Noon Kickoff. And of course he's got a new podcast. Chris,
thanks so much for joining us Flicks. Tell me about
your new podcast.

Speaker 11 (18:33):
No, it's great. We had the first episode this week.
Nara Betch with Jeff Schwartz, who obviously has played college
football in the NFL at highest level, Will Hill, who
is a contributor on v SAND and some other projects
as well. It's Sammy p who's written for Fox Sports
for a while and got a lot of in So, yeah,
we had a successful first show. I saw that the

(18:54):
The Apple Podcast had us at like number four for
the at some point yesterday, so that was good. It's popular.
We're going to have a college one out on Thursday.
We're going to have an NFL one out on Friday,
starting next week, so I'm really looking forward to it,
and show will continue to evolve every week, so I
appreciate people reaching out and commenting on things we can add,

(19:14):
things that could do better, and things that are hoping
to hear from the future. So it was a lot
of fun final to get back and do something. People
have been asking for months if we're going to be
doing another podcast, and I had to kind of lay
be a little KOI about the whole thing. But of
course it was going to be a podcast and we're
happy to get going.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Well, right, let's test what we have so far in
terms of data. How'd you do last night with your picks.

Speaker 11 (19:38):
The only thing I got involved in was Utah under
forty seven. I was holding that for a while because
all along I didn't believe that Cam Rising was going
to play in that game. So I got a good
number and then it closed I think at forty four,
and after you watch the game, there was never a
three that that game was going to go over the
forty seven. So that was the only thing that I

(20:00):
really got involved in last night. In the in the
college game, it was kind of an unspectacular type type slate.
I did hop in alive on the under in Nebraska Minnesota,
which which worked out as well. That was but it
really doesn't matter who the head coach is in Nebraska,
whether it's Mike Rowley, both Malini, Scott Croft, and now

(20:21):
it appears Matt Rule that it just appears to be
a snake fitting program. We will figured out ways to
uh to lose games that they very easily could have won.
So UH we're looking looking forward to a better slate
tomorrow and hopefully find some games to hop in on.
But yeah, for a small slate on a small sample
found on Thursday, a couple of things I was in

(20:42):
on went well.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Can we can we have the conversation I feel like
everyone's having in terms of betting in college football, the
new timing rules that seems, at least on the outside,
it's gonna affect the totals in your mind, give me
the totals you're looking at Week one.

Speaker 11 (20:59):
Yeah, that's a conversation obviously, I said everyone has had.
At the same time, I think obviously it's baked into
a lot of the numbers where odds makers are expecting
these games to be lower scoring, and I'm curious to
see how the numbers stack up after a full week
of games, because I think in the small sample size
we have seen lower scoring games, we have seen more unders.

(21:23):
Will numbers continue to fall, and again, it is that
a by product of good defense bat offense. I think
we saw a lot of both in some of these
games in the Week zero and then the Thursday game
as well. But I'm curious to see because I think
ultimately what we're going to see are, yes, we're going

(21:43):
to see fewer plays, but I think we're going to
see as many fewer plays as people think. I think
I think what we're going to see is like the
time being shortened as well of the game, But overall,
I'm still kind of holding out to see if this
is kind of real or if this is just noise.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Okay, before we go to full Week one schedule, in
your Picks of the weekend, got a good slate tonight.
Michigan State's getting ready to play. They have obviously had
disappointing season last year as opposed to Kansas, who had
another worldly good season last year. We already have an
early season ACC matchup Louisville and Georgia Tech Stanford. I
guess we talked about this, so they're going to the ACC.

(22:24):
They're taking on Hawaii out on Oahu. Hawaii is already
owned one this year.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Any Leans tonight.

Speaker 11 (22:32):
The one thing that I would play tonight would be
Louisville laying seven and a half against Georgia Tech. I
think Georgia Tech last year snuck up on some people.
They won some games and some spots where I think
a lot of opponents didn't really respect Georgia Tech. I
didn't think they were very good, so I think maybe
they slipt walk through some games and beat the teams

(22:54):
that they probably shouldn't have. Haines King the Texas A
and M quarterback is transferred to in there. But at
the same time, I think there's a lot of excitement
about this Louisville program with Jeff Brom coming in, bringing
in the quarterback that he's familiar with, that that's been
in his system. I think Louisville, yes, they did lose
a lot defensively, but I'm not sure Georgia Tech is

(23:16):
the team that's going to be able to expose that
Louisville as a team that I think could be sneaky
good this year. So of the four games tonight, I
would be behind Louisville but most and then the other
game I would look at if I had to play
something else is I would consider taking Miami of Ohio
plus the points against Miama Mater Miami of Florida. Miami

(23:39):
of Florida the last year against FBS teams as a
favorite went zero to six and lost three times outright,
including twice as a double digit favorite. So the Byron
Crystaball is kind of reshape that roster and they get
Tyler Van Dyke back at quarterback, but we will see
how much that has an impact. They're still kind of
lacking at the skill positions in terms of breakaway type

(24:00):
game breakers a wide receiver. So again, will it matter
will come into play against Miami Ohio? I don't know,
but they have struggled in this role mightily. Whether the
coach has been Manny Diaz, whether the coach has been
more grit, whether the coach has been marri Chus Fault.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
I was looking at this number. Obviously, Iowa's offense was
kind of like the laughing stock of well college football,
but especially the Big.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Ten last year.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
So they are twenty three and a half point favorite
against Utah State. You know there's this expression, right anything
in time something's too good to be true? It probably is.
Doesn't that feel too good to be true? Like you
have to take Utah st?

Speaker 11 (24:34):
Eight?

Speaker 2 (24:34):
I mean, is that too big a number?

Speaker 11 (24:37):
I actually would lay it with Iowa in that game.
I certainly would have looked at the under Utah State.
I don't think it's going to be very good this year.
While came back to Mars, I've heard both things. I
have heard people expect him to play, and I have
heard people that don't expect him to play. The people
who who I trust say they don't expect him to play.

(25:00):
Same time, I don't think that's going to matter against
Utah State. Iowa's defense I think is still too good
in this situation. I think they'll go out and beat
Utah State pretty convincently.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Okay, the big noon game, you'll be there. I know
Colorado TCU. A lot of people laying that number because
not just they like TCU, but in Colorado's guys just
they met in the locker.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Room before they walk out there.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Right, obviously everyone's going to be there. It's coach Prime's
first game. What's your lean TCU Colorado?

Speaker 11 (25:33):
Considering the numbers, Yeah, I like the TCU team total
over forty one and a half in this game. I
think it's a weird spot because typically teams that aren't
expected to be very good a lot of times, like
you'll look ahead, you'll kind of look past, and baby,
they'll kind of sleep walk through a game. But Colorado

(25:54):
is going to be a team that's expected to be bad.
And because of Deion Sanders and because of all the
offseason reshaping the roster in the program, they're the list
of coaches that want to be Colorado and be Colorado
badly is very very long. So they're going to take
everybody's bet shot. Remember, last year, Chamion Wallis actually started
the season I starting quarterback for TCU before we actually

(26:19):
got you got hurt in that Colorado game, and then
Max duggan Leon into the national title game. I think
CaCu feels good about their wide receiver room. I think
they're going to put up a bunch of points. Now,
look at this, you were a point guard. You in
putting play basketball at a very high level. Part of
the success of the team was knowing kind of where

(26:40):
your other players on the court were going to be,
Knowing you could make that pass and know someone was
going to going to be there but before you even
before you even thought about doing it. On the defensive
side of the ball. For Colorado, you've got a bunch
of new players who were brought in after the spring.
They haven't had any time to acclimate and kind of
build trust in each I think they're going to be

(27:01):
a lot of blown assignments, and I think TCU is
going to put up a big number.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
So arow stug Gottliebchell here on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio A.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Chris Felika is our guest.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
He's been the lead researcher for college football four years,
going back to College Game Day now part of Big
newon Kickoff and our college football coverage here at Fox.
He's got his own podcast out where he picks all
these games. He's going to join us every Friday. All right,
give me a couple of other games you're looking at
this Saturday.

Speaker 11 (27:29):
Two other games that I'm looking at. Washington laying fourteen
against Boise State. I don't think this matchup is very
good for Boise. I don't think they'll be able to
control the line of scrimmage and run Hallani like they are,
like they're able to against a bunch of teams. I
don't think they have the game breakers at wide receiver
that they have had in the past. And I think

(27:50):
you double get off to a really nice start. Remember too,
this is a Boise team. If you go back over
the last seven years against Power five teams, they're just
two and seven, and five of those losses have been
by at least seventeen points of I like you, dub
and I like South Alabama getting the six and a
half against Tulane. Tulane is kind of in the role

(28:11):
now we're South Alabama, but say the other way around.
Tulane last year was an underdog, pulled it up said
early in the year against Kanasas State unappreciated. Now South
Alabama is in that position and to Lane has lost
Tige Spears on offense and a couple of their linebackers
who were the heart and soul of their team on
especially on defense. If you look at South Alabama, you've

(28:34):
got about eighteen returning starters, a really good young up
and coming coach in Kave Walmack, an offensive coordinator in
Major Apple White who has had success, is going to
give them a bunch of different looks. South Alabama last
year lost twice in the regular season. They lost it
by you still lay by a point in the game
that it really should have won, and then lost at

(28:55):
Troy in like a four point ten sixth game where
they had a bunch of opportunity. You can truly wind
up winning that league. This is a very dangerous game
for Chulane. I'm taking the Jacks buff the points. And
by the way, your Alma maters better be careful. In
a couple of weeks with South Alabama goes to Stillwater.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Ooh yeah, well, listen, I just that can't happen for
Oklau mistate. Of course, they get Central Arkansas, then they
go to Arizona State next week before they get that.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
South Alabama games.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Let's let's hope that's not again Oklahoma State to me,
Let's hope that's not that close. Listen. Uh, can't wait
to see on the TV side. Love the new podcast
and love that you're part of my show. Felix, thanks
so much for joining us. Chris FeliCa, thanks for joining
us here on the Doug gotlib Show.

That's our progressive play of the day.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Progressions making things even easier.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
They help you under your home and car insurance together,
you can say I'm both there more progressive dot com
I call one eight hundred progressive. Let's get to Nick
Cope with the press. The press, what do you got, Nick?

Speaker 7 (30:38):
All right?

Speaker 6 (30:39):
Doug the news of the day, the ACC going coast
to coast, satting, Cal Stanford and SMU in all sports
for next fall.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
I mean it's a weird one. I mean it's just
Callen Stanford trying to survive. I think SMU ends up
making the most out of this thing, right they just
SMU goes from a well, a group of five to
a power five or a group of six, whatever it
was called. So I definitely think that there's a win there.
There's a win there for SMU. And but you know, again,

(31:12):
it's like what are you willing? What are you willing
to sacrifice? You know, what are you willing sacrifice to
get there? And they're willing to give up their TV
money for ten years. Now.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Here's what's interesting.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
We all think of, well, SMU, you're not gonna be
making the thirty million, that thirty something million.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
That the ACC schools are making.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
That's true, but they were only making about eight nine
million dollars a year from the American Athletic Conference anyway,
So though it feels like they're thirty million in the whole.
First of all, that school swims in money. They've wanted
to be on a legitimate stage for years, and it's
really only an eight nine million dollars shortfall as opposed
to a thirty million dollars short fall.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
What do you think of Dallas apparently being considered as
a sort of neutral site for Olympic sports to meet
and play each other.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
It seems really weird. Yeah, just does you know? And
it's like, well, what do we have these on campus
facilities for? Who's gonna go to those games? I mean
the whole thing. And I know nobody goes to Stanford games.
Somebody go to Cal games. But like, I just that
does not seem like college sports to me.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
That's bad.

Speaker 6 (32:24):
I agreed, Let's go to the NFL. Chris Jones, Mike Evans.
They both want new contracts, both holding out. You gotta
feel for how you think these two are going to
play out.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
I think, I mean, like I think everybody ends up playing. Yeah,
I just I that's really I would be more surprised
if anybody's sitting at week one of the season. That
would if everybody's playing m.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
H, let's go to basketball.

Speaker 7 (32:53):
He had tem Usa.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
They were threatened by Montenegro in the early morning hours.
They trailed by halftime before pulling away late. They won
by twelve. But any concern for Team USA or was
that just a little speedbump?

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Definitely concerned Montenegro. Now Montenegro is Serbia Montenegro, right, so
it's a part of the country, a part of the
world that you know, for by Yugoslavia that always gave
us trouble. But yep, yeah, I mean this is not
a great squad, and it's a difference style of basketball,
and we're just not just gonna walk in and show

(33:26):
up and beat people, all right, go ahead, No, that's
not happening, you know.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
All right, We're gonna have a little fun with this
one because next week the IOC is set to vote
on whether to add nine sports for the twenty twenty
eight Olympics, set to go in Los Angeles. Here we go, yeah, lacrosse,
flag football, baseball and softball, karate, kickboxing, break dancing, squash, cricket,

(33:55):
and then motorsport, which we don't exactly know what form
of motor sport that is yet.

Speaker 7 (34:01):
But those are the nine the.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Two break dancing.

Speaker 6 (34:05):
Really yeah, that's kind of like your artistic gymnastics.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Yeah, what was the other one? There was another one?
The baseball. The lacrosse makes total sense. That's a gold
medal for US, right, flag football? Flag football? Like, really,
we're gonna do flag football?

Speaker 7 (34:24):
Seems silly?

Speaker 2 (34:25):
So are these proposed? Are these gonna happen?

Speaker 6 (34:27):
These are proposed and then they're gonna vote on them
next week about adding them for the twenty twenty eight Olympics.

Speaker 7 (34:34):
They're up for consideration.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
I mean, do you think an NFL player would play
in the flag football thing?

Speaker 11 (34:40):
Well?

Speaker 6 (34:40):
I would assume it's maybe just some mix of ex
college guys or I.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Agree, But do you think like an NFL guy be like, yeah,
I'll do that. Maybe a quarterback might.

Speaker 7 (34:50):
Maybe that's about it.

Speaker 6 (34:53):
No, no squash or cricket, don't care kickboxing.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
I mean, cricket is super popular internationally, super popular, just
not that popular here. But yeah, do they have a
they have a limit how many they can how many
new ones they can have.

Speaker 6 (35:08):
I don't think I didn't see that. I made it
sound like all I mean, surely they're not going to
add all of them, but we'll see. Kickboxing could be fun.
I played squash. Squash is fun, but I don't know. Yeah, squat,
you know, you just hit the crap out of this
a little rubber ball. I'm not sure it really translates
well to TV, but it's fun to play.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
I gotta work on my pickleball game. That's that's my
that's my time.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
You get out there and pressed.

Speaker 7 (35:34):
That was the press.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Whys and pickleball? The Olympics? What's up with that?

Speaker 7 (35:38):
Yeah? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Olympics. It's a great question.

Speaker 7 (35:40):
Seems like it'd be the perfect time.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
It really, it really is.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
