way that tire buying should be. Hey, welcome in Hope
you're outstanding. I do want to share with you a
tail of wings gone wrong. Wing's gone wrong. We'll start
(00:55):
talking about the Nuggets and the Lakers, a series that
gets in a way this weekend. We have two more
playing games tonight, So whoever loses is going home. Whoever
wins is taken on is going to be the eight seed.
Right So in the West, the winner of the Kings
and the Pels will take on the Thunder who's stuck
into the one seed and the winner of the Heat
(01:21):
and the Bulls takes on the Celtics takes on the Celtics,
which the only real interest in that is if the
Heat win and Jimmy Butler is healthy. Like, that's a
hell of a series for your the Boston Celtics to
open up with, because everything on the regular season tells
you that the Celtics should sweep the Heat, but there
(01:43):
is this Heat culture thing and playoff Jimmy Butler, et cetera,
et cetera. More on that to come. So we have
the full crew here. Dan Byer with a great look. Yeah,
good haircut, strong, strong haircut. I'm going I'm guessing that's
a two on the sides, blended in the top.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
One that's a one yes on the sides, Yeah, yep.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
That just shows you have thick hair because you had
thinner hair, right, the one would look you'd see more skin,
but you don't. So he's got one of the sides
blended into the top. Jay Stu who's arrogantly showing off
this iHeart hat, which everybody kind of wants. It feels
like one of the Janet Jackson what was that album
with the Rhythm Nation album. Remember in her videos she
(02:29):
had a hat on. It feels like a hat from
that only has the iHeart logo, not the Janet Jackson logo.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Yeah, that's my Friday uniform. iHeart, I'm all about work,
I'm a company.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Man, and Iowa sam who he's got. It is getting
not to the Greg Doyle level of uncomfortable, but his
level of Caitlin Clark fandom is getting.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
It's getting there.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
That's come on, that's not fair. He's just a true
Iowa fan.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
He know he's a hardcore Iowa fan.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
But he's starting to get defensive about how people tweet
about Kaylen Kloss.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
Don't be vulgar. I will point out one thing about
Jason's hat. It reminds me of Rob Low in the
NFL head in the crowd. Yeah, it's a very it's
just black and white. It's like it's like the government
issued iHeart hat. It's the government issued NFL hat. You said,
Rhythm Nation, Doug is the hat. Yeah, yeah, what was
the what was the name of that album? It's like
eighteen something.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Really, yeah, eighteen fourteen, eighteen fourteen helped me out. Does
anybody remember what that why was eighteen fourteen? There was
a reason behind it. I don't. Somebody told me once,
but I forgot, and I forgot forget very few things.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
We are Report of the Nation.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
I put my Janet Jackson shuffle in the vehicle a
couple of days ago. It was some some mix.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Oh Janet missus Jackson, if you're nasty nasty.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yeah, that was a little earlier, but yes, this there
was some pleasure principle on there.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Pleasure principle nice.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
The year that the Star Spangled Banner was written.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Boom, that's that very random, Like you're sitting around trying
to decide what to name this album. Rhythm Nation would
have been a great name. Why didn't they go with
Rhythm Nation? And it would have been before everybody had
their Sports Nation, which is we do a if you
haven't downloaded the Doug Gottlieb Show podcast, we have a
(04:20):
special one hour podcast only addition, and my favorite part
of it is something we call You're Annoying, where you
just get to vent about something that's annoying you. And
usually we go to Jason Stewart because everything annoys him
at a level at a heightened level, or maybe he
just says, what it's annoying the rest of us, only
he knows how to hone it and find the specific
people or person that's that's annoying us. Anyway, this is
(04:44):
annoying thing to me is that everybody has a nation,
you know, especially when these kids are are leaving their
they're leaving their school and putting themselves in the transfer portal.
They always think, you know, Trojan Nation, Bruin Nation, Sooner Nation,
Cowboy nation.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
There's not all.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
They don't all have nations. But that started that had
been Husker Nation, had been a real thing, a Nebraska
Cornhusker fandom, Husker Nation. And then when Howard Schnellenberger takeover,
took over Oklahoma, he tried he was only there for
a year. He wouldn't give guys water during preseason workouts.
(05:26):
Remember that's in August and Oklahoma, shocker. He only lasted
a year there, right, But he's like, hey, he wasn't
drinking water. Now, whatever he was drinking was not water
was stronger than that. But that's not the point. He
only last year anyway, he tried the Sooner nation thing,
and everybody's like, we don't have a sooner Nation. So
my point is not everybody has the Nation, but Rhythm
Nation would have predated all these other all this Nation talk,
(05:49):
and it would have still resonated today. It's a total
miss by Janet Jackson and whoever decided on eighteen fourteen
to be the name of what should have been the
Rhythm Nation album. We are repub Re the Nation Stug
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Do you guys
(06:11):
think Lebron's downplaying this series? They're taking on the Nuggets,
team that eliminated them last year, team that won the
NBA title last year, team that has a multi time MVP.
And in the last eight meetings, the Nuggets have beaten
the Lakers eight times. The Lakers have not won a game,
(06:32):
and it's by an average of eight and a half
points a game as well.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Here's Lebron James, thank.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
You play a little bit too much more emphasis on it.
This is our first round matchup and we look forward
to the postseason. But I haven't been like looking forward
to every the game is played. How has do we played?
And it's the matchup, so we look forward to that challenge.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
H look forward to that challenge.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
So my guess is, and it's an honest guess, that
Lebron thinks they have a good chance. I think this
is going to be a lot more competitive last year.
I don't think the Nuggets are as You take Bruce
Brown off the team and they're a very different matchup.
And Jamal Murray as incredible as he was last year
in the playoffs, and he looked like, you know, bubble
(07:23):
Jamal Murray, bubble Jamal Murray. The fact is that he
hasn't been healthy here late in the season, so we
don't know what it looks like when he cranks it
up to the playoff intensity. And this is a rare
space for Lebron James to be in where he's an
absolute underdog, absolute underdog in the series, so much so
(07:47):
that people actually believed they would have been better off
to lose the play in game to avoid the Nuggets.
So he's down playing, down playing, downplaying, and I think
it's just an effort to.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
For me.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
I again, this is purely speculation, This is no inside knowledge.
I think the downplaying is all part of the psychology.
You know, last year, if you remember, if you remember,
the Nuggets head coach talked even after the series and
into the offseason about how everyone talked about Lebron and
(08:29):
retirement and made the series about him and not about
the Nuggets, and they were the underdog despite the fact
they had the better record and anybody with the brain
would have seen them winning. And even now as the
defending champion, people are talking about the Nuggets being vulnerable
to a Laker team they've beaten eight times in a row.
So I think this is a you're going to get
the best shot from the Lakers, but it's an effort
(08:52):
to downplay the series in the psychological warfare game so
that they don't kind of that they feel like the
Nuggets aren't ready.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
I truly believe that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Last year, the series at the end became about Lebron,
would he retire? There was the leaked rumors, and that
became all of the post series discussion, not about how
great the Nuggets were. And I'm sure he felt like
there was a special level of energy, attention to detail,
and that the Nuggets used as motivation. And Lebron is
not an idiot. He's a very bright guy, and I
(09:27):
would guess that he's thinking to himself, why am I
gonna I'm not gonna poke the tiger. I'm not gonna
poke the bear. I'm gonna let the bear walk into
this thing and we're ready. Does it mean it works?
I don't think it changes anything. But I also haven't
won the four titles Lebron has won. I haven't been
down this road for twenty plus years. And he's seen
(09:49):
the other side. He's seen them try and rattle and
the two times, maybe actually three times, the three times
Lebron James has been part of a trash talking motive, Like, Okay,
it was Dallas in the finals in his first year
with Miami. Remember they made fun of Dirk Noviski saying
he was sick for Game one? How'd that work out?
(10:11):
The Phoenix Suns a couple years ago when they were
up two games to one and Lebron was backing somebody
down and the whole team was like miming it and
laughing as they had the Sons, and then Ad got hurt.
The Sons came back and beat it and sent them home.
And then last year with the Nuggets where they made
the series about them and about Lebron and not about
(10:34):
the Nuggets, and all three of those ended poorly, So
to me, this signifies Lebron James knowingly, willfully trying to
play the psychological game, psychological game.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
And downplay the series.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
And it doesn't mean that the Nuggets aren't going to
be a beast to try and beat four times in seven,
But why make it any harder than yourself? That's what
I's That's the best I can do from that, because
this is a rare spot where Lebron is the underdog
and can be playing up being the underdog, can play
up the fact that they've beat in the brains and
(11:14):
he's just down playing.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Hey, it's just a first round series. We're just gonna
try and compete.
Speaker 8 (11:17):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Doug gotlib Show, Fox Sports Radio. We're really doing a
Jan Jackson Friday. Is that we're doing, by the way,
Primus at the Hollywood Bowl. Primus at the Hollywood Bowl
tomorrow night. I'm less Claypool if you ever say it
like you don't even have to be into the bass guitar.
You know, my daughter accomplished bassist, and I went to
(11:51):
one of his concerts be for I was like, oh
my god, this is the most amazing. I've never seen
a dude like one instrument. So take over a concert.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Great bass player, and I want to like Primis, but
some of their music is very weird. Yeah, that's definitely weird,
and I love he is a great bass player, but
I think I'd rather see JJ over Primis.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
I'm not gonna lie chan Jackson.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Really, I've actually never heard the song before, and I
like it already off the bat.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
I want to tell the story. You never heard the
song before.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
I've never heard the pleasure principle. Oh, what is the
pleasure principal? Dan Byer, what is the actual principle of pleasure?
Speaker 4 (12:28):
I think we know what it is.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know that.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
She's to be very subtle and then uh then if
came out and yeah, then there was no more subtlety.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
By the way, we had a really weird thing happen, Well,
two weird things. One offered to buy lunch. That's weird, right,
usually very cheap. Secondly, so where I where you can
park for our studio. There's a there's A B Dubs
there Buffalo Wild Wings, which I'm as anybody who knows
they're not a sponsor to the show, although we end
up getting wing stopped just to where so anybody who's
(13:10):
a wing place wants to sponsor us.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
We're in.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
There's also a great pizza place here, so I just
asked the guy's pizza wings, and then all of a sudden,
the wings order like what do we want to order?
So I couldn't order off my app so I had
to go into the store and They're like, sorry, we're
not taking order.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
So I'm like, what do you mean?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Like, yeah, the gas doesn't work here, you know. So
then the inner fourteen year old boys like gas, I
got some gas for you, lady.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Yes, how to help the lead on it? I got gas? Right?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
So anyway, but apparently this major shopping center, which is
Caddy Corner from US. Don't you love the term, that's
a great word. Caddy Corner. Caddy Corner from US doesn't
have natural gas, so they can't they use natural gas
heaters for the fryars for the wings, so we don't
have so we had to mobile order the wings. But
(14:02):
I do think and then like today I'm driving to
work and I'm listening to Best of Both Worlds van Halen,
and I'm thinking to myself, there are so many little
things that we determine as people who we are and
what we're about, right, Like, are you David Lee Roth
or Sammy Hagar van Halen?
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Are you blue cheese or ranch? Are you carrots or celery?
Both or none?
Speaker 4 (14:30):
You know?
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Do you like dry or wet?
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Like?
Speaker 2 (14:32):
You can tell a lot about a person from the
wings that they order.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Can you know? I should go around the room?
Speaker 2 (14:37):
That was part of the plan? Thanks?
Speaker 6 (14:38):
Sam, I'm sorry so read your mind.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I guess buyer. Do you like both?
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Or do you really just like boneless wings and you're
willing to eat traditional?
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I'm I do like both. I just side with boneless,
easier with the whole deal. I actually think it's more
filling because I don't gnaw on as much of the
bone in wings as some Okay, so interesting philosophy.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
And then we're all ranch guys, right, does anybody a
blue cheese guy?
Speaker 4 (15:09):
I'm neither.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
I love ranch, but I also love blue cheese.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
It's got to be weird to be Dan Byron not
be into ranch. Being from Wisconsin. I feel like Midwest.
It's kind of like that's like it's like, you know,
they say Irish people put whiskey in baby bottles. I
feel like they put ranch in baby bottles in the Midwest.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Yeah, what do you dip your what do you dip
your curds in?
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Dan? Nothing?
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Nothing.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
They've never needed them. I don't know. In my little
forty seven years, have never needed to dip anything.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Yeah, we're gonna have this conversation again. Dan doesn't do condiments.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Go no, he has no condiments, doesn't like movies. Basic
diet of a eight to twelve year old. Yeah, yeah,
that's that's that's that's what we and Loves Mountain Dew Loves.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Jay Stew.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Where are you on the on the on the first?
And I didn't ask you? Buyer Hagar Roth David Lee
Roth on?
Speaker 4 (16:04):
I think it's Yeah, that's not that I don't I think.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
They're more known for David Lee Roth. I think Sammy
Hagar the songs were better or more.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Yeah. I don't agree with that. And it's not that
I don't like Hagar's songs. I just think that the
best Van Halen songs are with David Lee Roth.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Okay, uh Jay stew Uh Hagar or David ly Roth.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
Definitely David Lee Roth, And I think that, I think it.
It definitely shows me the level of sophistication of the
person I'm dealing with if they do choose Hagar, because
Hagar is more just more pop. And there's nothing wrong
with being a fan of pop. I just think that's
less sophisticated, that's all.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I agree with that, And that's actually why I like
the Hagar songs more. Even at the Roth was that
was what van Halen's more known for, right the jump video,
be hot for teacher video, That's that's what That's how
they became part of my world. Okay, wings wet or dry,
boneless or bone in? Do I get a van Halen,
(17:07):
I will get I will get to you, Sam, if
you have any patience at all. I really said hot
takes on it in my ear.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
You said go around the room, and I said, I'm planning.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I think you're doing it a little bit here and there.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
So no, no, no. I started to my left is
Dan Bayer. Then I worked to Jason Stewart and now
I'll work to you. But I have to and now
Jason has to answer the phone. So now it becomes
Hagar or Roth. My spirit animal is more Sammy Hagar.
But I'm gonna go David Lee Roth. But Sammy Hagar
great businessman and he loves him some. Kaitlyn Clark Okay, okay,
(17:41):
it always comes around a Kaitlyn Clark. Well, I just
I do love that to become that guy. It's like
Boston people bring everything back to Boston.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
One of my teachers used to call me rock and
Sammy Hagar in class because I had these red sunglasses
and shaggy curly hair. Sure, so I kind of just
s it's like kind of my spirit animal. So okay,
nice guy too. He's a little more like than David
Lee Roth. David's not likable, but he's a love David
Lee Roth as in van Halen, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Sure, Let's get to Mark Dominick. You spent over twenty
years in NFL front offices and scouting. Former gentle manager
of the Tampay Buccaneers. David Lee Roth van Halen or
Sammy Hagar van Halen.
Speaker 9 (18:14):
So I'm gonna have to I can't drive fifty five
was one of my you know, was your kid? Heres
love that? But I'm going David ly Roth. I thought
that was a different vibe, a different feel, a different
ninety four was just too strong, too good.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Okay, Wings, are you a boneless wing guy or traditional
wing guy?
Speaker 9 (18:32):
Traditional? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (18:34):
All day flats or flats, flats or drumsticks? What that
flats or drumsticks or doesn't matter?
Speaker 9 (18:40):
Does I mean? I prefer the drumsticks, but it doesn't matter,
but I prefer drumsticks.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
We should go on a date because I'm a flat guy.
We we we match up quite quite well, quite quite well.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
And then if you do have wings, what is the sauce? Like,
what's your sauce order?
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Do you?
Speaker 3 (18:55):
And you don't have to go Buffalo? You can go
Levin pepper, you can go garlic, palm, whatever you want.
Speaker 9 (18:59):
Oh no, I like heat. I like the heat. And
then I'm a blue cheese guy over ranch, so yeah,
that's where I live.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
But I like the I just I feel like I
don't even know you all this time?
Speaker 9 (19:10):
Time to break up on radio.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
We well, listen, we'll just we'll let the blue cheese
thing go and figure out a way if we can
make amends and keep this relationship going through it. Mark
Dominic joins us in the Doug Outleabs show on Fox
Sports Radio. Okay, so we're a week out, a little
lesson a week out when you're in front offices, like
how set is your board and your plan six days
(19:31):
from the draft?
Speaker 9 (19:33):
Yeah, I think right now it should be really set.
There's still a little tinkering you're gonna do, Doug, because
there's little bits of information you're going to gather over
the last couple of days where it's got to be verified.
You've got to, you know, make sure that the information
you're getting this in the smoke screen or boloney. But
if you can get some information, whether it's hey, I'm
hearing a player might be slipping, or hearing guys six
(19:53):
sar and up the board, grabbing your area scout, maybe
grabbing a coach and calling that school, talking to somebody
they know, just to kind of get a better sense
of who that guy is. Could be something you could do.
But for the most part, you're you should only be
making adjustments where a guy maybe moves up one or
two spots, are down a spot, that kind of thing.
It shouldn't be meteoric jumps from like I thought, here's
a third round or not. I think he's a second,
(20:14):
then you got problems.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
Okay, that's where we are kind of with Michael Pennix, right,
and and maybe a couple other quarterbacks. Dan Patrick said
earlier today, like he's got a source said expect six
quarterbacks go in the first round. That means Bo Nicks,
Michael Pennock's uh skyrocketing up draft boards. What's your evail
on Pennis.
Speaker 9 (20:33):
I like Michael Pennix. I like I like his throwing mechanics.
I like that he's got to see with the ball,
but he's got good placement. Look, he's a natural pocket passer, right,
He's not going to be one of these quarterbacks that
are going to beat you with his legs. He's going
to sit in the pocket, read his progression, deliver the football,
and he throws a really good football with a simplocity.
I think Pennix does go in the first I think
(20:54):
it's towards the mid to bottom of the first round.
You know, as I still am staying with five quarterbacks
in the first round, not six. We'll see what happens there.
But certainly I like Michael Pennix, and I think he's
worthy of a chance to see can he be a
franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Interesting and it's also interesting how he's developed into being
a Podcat past considering when he was in Indiana he
was a lot more of a runner. Of course, had
the knee injury, and he has unbelievable stats in terms
of his speed and athleticism. Mark Dominic joins us on
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. The draft
is going to kind of take a path based upon
who goes at two and then who goes at three.
(21:31):
Best guess what happens with Washington too.
Speaker 9 (21:34):
Jade Daniels is my best guess. I think Cliff Kingsbury
will want the athleticism that you can have with him,
even though Drake may certainly an athlete two. But no
one's ever done what Jane Daniel's done in the SEC
or throwing to thwarted forty touchdowns, running for ten touchdowns,
and so I think that to me, it's Jane Daniels
(21:55):
goes too. Drake may goes three.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Still, Okay, would you take a Brock Bowers ahead of
a Marvin Harrison junior? And and the logic behind it was,
and you tell me if I'm wrong, if you say
Jayden data is the best player in the SEC. I
would say, okay, if you say Brock Bowers is one
B because he's not a quarterback, but a dominant college
(22:16):
player at a position that is far more impactful than
it's ever been. Like, right, we watch we just watch
Can Save Chiefs when two Super Bowls a role and
it feels like the only guy he has to throw
to is Travis Kelcey. And there's a litany of talented
wide receivers, maybe not as good as Marvin Harrison junior,
but there's not as big a drop off, and there's
a volume of other potential picks. I let's say the
(22:38):
Chargers stick at five. They could use either a tight
end or a wide receiver. What say you, Mark Domick?
Speaker 9 (22:45):
Yeah, so I think Marvin Harrison over Brock Powers. I
think Brock Bowers the next player off the board. You know,
I think he's just five United. I actually think Brock
Bowers is the best player in the SEC. So I'm
that high on him. And again I think people look
at it and like, well, the good tight ends are
Kittle and Kelsey and second rounders and fifth rounders. Well
(23:07):
I can create that argument for quarterbacks, right, I mean
I can find quarterbacks in the second, third, fourth, undrafted,
Tony Romo's, Tom Brady's, you know, Russell Wilson's, and we
could do that. You can make an argument for anything
tight ends. There's only eleven that I have ever been
in the Hall of Fame. Brock Bowers to me is
as good a football player as you could ask for
at that position, because he's not only physical enough to
(23:29):
hang into the run game or be a pass protection guy,
but what it separates him his run after the catch.
He is so good and so strong and accelerates so fast,
and he's got such soft hands. He to me is
the number two overall offensive talent in this draft class,
or maybe number three, depending on how much you love
Caleb Williams. But Marvin Harrison to me, should go number four.
(23:50):
I wouldn't trade out of it. And if I'm the Chargers,
I take Brock Bowers. I know that they could use
an offensive tackle. I know I've talked about that being
the dark horse for them as taking an offensive tackle.
But if it's not, I don't think they take wide receiver.
I think they take the tight end, and then they
come back in the second round and they take the
tackle of their wide receivers, and those two positions are
deeper clearly than than tight ended.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Mark Dominic joined us on the Doug Otlib Show on
Fox Sports Radio. We bring up the SEC and him
being the best, and I agree with you. Actually, I
think he's the best player in the SEC. But do
we have to change how we view a player in
that league because that league, while still super talented one,
(24:31):
the talent is more spread out. It's not as much
at just Bama and Georgia because of the NIL and
everybody pays and then to both those programs, especially Georgia
had really really been depleted by the NFL draft, right,
Like the SEC felt a little bit down last year.
Does that change your eval at all? Because it's hard
to see, like what am I seeing this guy against?
(24:52):
Does that change an EVL at all when the league
that we normally revere as far and away the most
talented is down.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
No, it doesn't. I mean, I agree that the SEC
might have been down.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
A little bit.
Speaker 9 (25:02):
I think it'll boister the bolster herself back up. We
didn't see as many young kids into the into the draft. Declare,
I think it's partially NIL driven. The SEC is gonna
be SEC. It's going to hold up.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (25:14):
There's been a lot of talent that's coming through Georgia
obviously over the last few years. I mean, so many
picks on the defensive side of the ball. You can
just look at the Phildelphia Eagles and see it all.
But I'm not concerned. It doesn't bother me a bit
in terms of like SEC talent and like I think
if you take that same mindset and go, well, you know,
Big ten packed, you know, all the different conferences, Uh,
(25:34):
you know, still the SEC has the best athletes and
the best competition across the board.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
You know, we saw Daniel Jones talk to media this week. Uh,
the Seahawks with Gino Smith. He's under contract, but it
it feels like they're going to need a new guy.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Right.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
We'll see what happens with Minnesota. Are they somebody in
the JJ McCarthy sweepstakes. I feel like those three teams
are teams that technically have quarterbacks but are trying to
find you know, a brock Purty. Grant, You're not going
to find Brock Purdy as mister irrelevant, but a brock Purty.
What are your thoughts on and even Pittsburgh, Right, Pittsburgh's
(26:14):
got they.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Go ahead and get two guys.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
But I don't think anybody thinks that Russell Wilson is
the long term solution there. And you know, you're kind
of taking a flyer on Justin Fields and he's even
going to be a backup. I give you four teams,
what do you think they're in the market. When do
you think they're in the market for a quarterback?
Speaker 9 (26:32):
I think they all are. I think the Giants are
in the market. As you said, they've got to decide
whether the quarterback still is on the board that they
like enough, or do they make a move in surprise everybody.
You can't test trust Daniel Jones to be out there
on the field anymore, let alone was he still suspect
in terms of what he's going to be, but then
the injuries last year. You've got to think as an
organization keep swinging at that position. You may still like
(26:55):
Daniel Jones and you may still think he has potential,
but to be their team you got to be You've
got to keep swinging the position, find somebody better, something
can take it to another level. So I think the
Giants are absolutely played for a quarterback at six I
agree with you. The Minnesota Vikings are sitting there. It
makes so much sense with their picks that they've got
to go do something. They can't go through the season
and just say, hey, look we're surrendering saying what I
(27:16):
think the Denver Broncos. I think the Raiders might have
a little bit more confidence in their quarterback situation. I
don't think it's a great idea, but Gardner minshew A O'Connell,
they're hoping that they are going to be good enough.
I think it's going to be a long season for
Raiders fans and that's how it ends up. And then
you got to I think the sleeper team is the
Seattle Seahawks, who I think are sitting back in the
wings trying to take a look at these quarterbacks and
say who do we want or who might fall through
(27:38):
here to us at sixteen as the teams that are
really looking at the quarterbacks in the first round. But
I do think that the Giants are in play. Do
I think they've taken JJ McCarthy, I don't know, But
I don't think the Giants are done when they sit
there and make their selection, because I still think they
could go do something with that second round pick that
they have around pick forty seven and say, hey, can
we go move that thing up if one of these quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Steut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, you know,
the Cowboys have made decision to Stan Pat as of
now on Dak Prescott going to be a huge cap hit,
but that gives them at least the opportunity if they
want to walk away from Dak at the end of
next year. Also gives Dak the opportunity to potentially walk
away as well. What do you think of of the
(28:21):
philosophy they're trying to employ.
Speaker 9 (28:24):
I think they're kind of in it. I think Jerry Jones,
his son Steven Jones, who's basically running the team, I
think they're saying, hey, look, we're all in for this
year to see who can get it done. So when
they fit all in, I don't know if they meant players.
I think they meant staff and quarterback, and they're saying, hey, look,
if we can't get to the next step, then we're
going to change everything out next year. But let's give
it one more run. Let's eat the salary cap the
(28:46):
way it is, because if it all works out next year,
we'll figure out Dak Prescott. We're going to get these
deals done with Ceedee Lamb, Michaeh Parsons, and I still
think they'll get deals done with those guys before we
get to camp. But if you know the Cowboys, sometimes
they wait all the way to the last second. So
I don't think you're unless something breaks, I don't think
you're going to see those two guys get signed. But
that's the future of the team of those two players,
(29:07):
and then depending on how Dak plays, will decide whether
the Cowboys move forward with Dak Prescott. But I think
they're waiting.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Last thing.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
And we asked you kind of interesting draft questions every year.
Here's what I want from it. I love the guys
behind the scenes that football people know, but the rest
of us don't. Okay, I need a scout that you had, Like, man,
this guy, colorful personality. Everybody in football knows him. But
he was my guy in this area or with this
(29:36):
type of player, and this time of year, you know,
he was on my style. He and my staff or
somebody and I always called him and I always respected
his view and he's just a colorful If you know football,
you know this guy, but the mainstream does not.
Speaker 9 (29:49):
Well, there was a guy that I had. His name
is Mike Yworski, who was really a Southern guy, so
he kind of had that belly of a laugh when
he was like the things are going on. Ad was
Walt Yorski, who was instrumental in the building the Cowboys
and part of the huge, huge in what's of talent
under Jimmy Johnson. Mike was his son. Was a great
(30:10):
scout for the meet in the Southeast, but always had
a very strong opinion and certainly stayed on it. I
love to have it. And Mike worked in the national
foot play for gosh, I bet thirty five forty years
and so you know, I think he's finally retired now.
He lives in Cleveland, Tennessee, a small town. But that
guy worked so hard and did so much good stuff.
He was one of those sleeper guys behind the scenes.
(30:31):
But everybody in the league knew the Yorskees. His dad
and then certainly his son, and they both had most
respect throughout the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Awesome stuff. That's the kind of stuff I love. Hey,
enjoy the week. We'll talk to you next week as
we get ready for the Draft.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Thanks much for joining us, Mark my pleasure man.
Speaker 9 (30:47):
Talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (30:48):

you want to go. It's an awesome show. Well no,
it's tomorrow night, Tomorrow night, Tomorrow night at the Pirate Ship.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
All right, Dan Byer, what's the game game today is?
Speaker 8 (32:01):
I got dips?
Speaker 4 (32:02):
All right, let's just combine this. It was gonna be
Eastern NBA Finals rep and then Western NBA Finals Representatives
in separate categories. But we're tight on time.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
DIBs on Celtics.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
There you got. You got DIBs on Celtics. I was
gonna say, let's just do NBA title.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
I got DIBs on Celtics.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
Dibbs on Celtics. I'll take it. Was a homer Manzi's
gonna be putting out our social media video of all
of our picks. We don't know if Jannis is even
gonna play in the series against the Pacers. Not expected
in game one. Despite what Doc Rivers said today, give
me the Bucks. Okay, just to being a homer.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
I got DIBs on the Nuggets. Nuggets are really good
and they have a huge white center that upsets a
lot of people. Because he's so good and he wins MVPs.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
I like Jason's love of Jokic because I do believe
I know that he just was talking about making people upset,
but in the times where he's talked about where he
sat down and watched Nuggets games, he truly does seem
to love everything about Yok's game. Yeah, I do. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
I like people that don't draw attention to themselves.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Okay, what what do you got there?
Speaker 4 (33:18):
Uh? Sam, do you want any DIBs on any of these?
Speaker 6 (33:21):
I'll take DIBs on the seventy six ers. A little
Philly bias?
Speaker 4 (33:24):
All right, all right?
Speaker 6 (33:25):
How about NFL draft quarterbacks? I got DIBs on Bo Nicks.
I love his passion. His passion is very competitive. I
got DIBs on Bo Nicks.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Hey DIBs and Kayleb Williams.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
It's probably pretty smart.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
Chalk You got chalk?
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Huh?
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (33:41):
I mean like we've we've seen him in college for
two years or actually three years, and everybody says he's
the deal. So like, why am I gonna out smart
all these people? Like, just go with the guy who's
the most likely to be good. I got DIBs on
Jayden Daniels. Sorry, Jason, I don't think that is Heisman
campaign was. I mean, I thought that there's a lot
of stat patting. But I'll take Daniels, I.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
Get, I have DIBs on trick make guys. Uh, he's
fallen in this whole process. But you know, Josh Allen
also felt because he had a bad supporting cast at Wyoming,
that might sound like a good point and that I
made it up. But no, that's exactly what DJ Jeremiah
Daniel Jeremiah said on Wednesdays.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
All right, what about wing flavors, guys variety, barbecue, Terioki, Nashville, Buffalo, lemon, pepper,
saltan viners.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
I got DIBs on burning hot, salt, vinegar, DIBs.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Jerk chicken, caribbean jerk.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
I got DIBs on Buffalo, just give it to me
straight medium Buffalo I got.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
I got DIBs on barbecue. But man, if Sam would
have jumped in there, I would have been fine with
a garlic or a garlic Parky guy, palms.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Kid, I'm gonna take the DIBs on the garlic parm.
I was gonna say Buffalo, but Jason took that so.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
By the way, because some of the moisture from the
lid that they put on the wings. What were the
flavors that you ordered of the bone in occasion? Okay,
I had a honey.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Barbecue that was a dry honey barbecue, and then a
lemon pepper.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Gotcha, okayon pepper, and then.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
We had the because I knew I don't really love
the buffalo sauce and I knew you guys all want
a medium, I did those as the boneless, boneless perfect.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
And that's game time.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Game.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show. It's here on Fox Sports Radio.
