Bill Belichick on that ring cam video which I didn't

(01:22):
know existed until yesterday, which is amazing, similar sort of afterglow.
I also want to welcome in my son, Hayes Gottlieb
full full disclosure, Full disclosure.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
We're going to go to thunder Mavericks Game two tomorrow
night and we're having a little or he's having a
little and rightfully so, a little pre tornado activity anxiety.
I don't know if you guys have watched the weather.
You're in Los Angeles, Okay, Hayes has gotten here, We've
watched the weather. How would you describe what the tornadic

(01:59):
activity looks like to night in Oklahoma City?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Scary?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Honestly, yes, I'm pretty scary because I've never experienced a
tornado before. But yeah, I just I've never been in
a cellar or shelter or anything. Just being from California.
It's hard because I've never experienced anything like this, and
it looks like it might be pretty bad.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
No, And so for people who don't know about tornadoes
and never lived in Tornado Alley, it's that they do
a really good job of predicting when you're going to
have a rough night, and then when the tornadoes are forming,
and when they're on the ground, they'll tell you like
time wise, where in direction and all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
You've got to pay attention.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
But this is one of those everything is canceled locally
and they're shutting stuff down, batting down the hatches, and
after five thirty six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
At night supposed to get to be a rough night.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, so if you're listening to us in the Midwest,
be safe anyway. With that in mind, he wanted to
get in on a little love and ay can we
do that?

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Guys? You guys, everybody, everybody ready for this.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Let's do this every Monday on the show where you
know you got stuff to be pent up and you
can bring in Friday, Hayes. I might even let you
bring in Thursday because I know there's something you want
to get to. Let's do a little love and hate.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
What did you love?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
God? I love you?

Speaker 5 (03:15):
And what did you hate?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
These player? Hayes all right, I'm gonna start. I'm gonna start.
It is my show. It is the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
It is Fox Sports Radio, bailable on the iHeartRadio app
as well. You know, there's a lot of things I love.
I'm gonna give Hayes credit here. Okay, I'm gonna do
two things I love. One was Anthony Edwards his Game
one performance. You know, it's one thing to have a
great series against Phoenix and then everybody knows you're coming,
Everybody knows you're there, they're gunning for you. And to

(03:49):
go on the road against Denver and play that way,
and to be the first player since Kobe Bean Bryant
to have four party plus in consecutive playoff games at
twenty two years of age or younger. I mean, you've
were on the list with Kobe Bryant. Nobody else on
that list of twenty two and under. That's amazing. And

(04:13):
then I'll give Hayes credit. We're playing in a game
yesterday where we didn't have our full slate, full set
of players, but we're trying to maintain an undefeated record
in what's called made hoops in in pool play, and
Hayes gave an impassioned speech at halftime, which motivated.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
His teammate, Is that fair?

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, I guess did we have to.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Blank bleep out any of the words that we had
to do? Well, we did a little bit. And he
challenged his teammates to show him that you cared about
being undefeated, and they did they won the game.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yes, So that's what I love. All Right, let's get to.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I was, Sam, you love everything and everyone would you
love the that's weekend.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
So I we've already kind of covered this. I loved
Jeff Ross poking the bear getting Tom Brady all riled up,
because Tom Brady is a cool customer, but he loves
Robert Kraft has a lot of respect for him.

Speaker 7 (05:12):
So that was out of bounds. Talking about the massage.
I also, why was that of bounds?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I most thing ever funny that it was.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
It was out of bounds to Brady because he said
it went up there and was serious, and then Jeff
Ross was like, also he could tell he's a Brady poke.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Well, no, there had to be some sort of there
had to be something said previously, like hey, you know.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
Just he went he went on, you know, he went
against his word, So don't don't touch that. I won't, yes,
and he did.

Speaker 8 (05:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
It is a weird hill to die on, though, right,
Jay Stuke? Can you make heads or tails of that?
Like anything was I mean they talked about everything, his divorce,
Kim Kardashian is there, there was, there was, I mean
I heard it was like the eighties again when I
heard the three letter F word dropped as well. Nothing

(06:06):
was that about except Bob Kraft and you know, a
massage of that that seems so super weird.

Speaker 8 (06:16):
I will say this, if the Bob Craft thing was
on a list of things that that shouldn't have been
talked about, I think that list also covered Brady's kids.
And I'll say that. I'll say I was waiting for
the first joke about Tom Brady having kids at the
same time he had two kids in the same year.
That seemed to be good fodder, uh for for jokes,

(06:37):
and it was never brought up. I'm thinking that was
on a do not play well.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
No, there was something on us kids. There's some of
his kids. What what's the uh, she's the black comedian.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
She's.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
She's lesbian black comedian. I'll send you the clip. And
and yet it was there was absolutely a joke about
his kids, about him raising it him raising his kids
or not, you know whatever, I'll send it to you.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
But yeah, that's a weird one to have on a list,
isn't it.

Speaker 7 (07:09):
Hello Miiter, Hello Fodder?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Okay, what about you, Jay Stew would you love him
this weekend?

Speaker 8 (07:14):
Okay? So, the Dodgers swat the Braves, as we've been
talking about. They are five and a half games in
front of first place, in first place in the NL West.
Shoheil Tani now has ten home runs, twenty five of RBI.
He's batting three sixty four. The crazy thing about the
Dodgers being in the first place right now and sweeping
one of the best teams in baseball is that there's

(07:37):
a lot about this team that isn't working. Like their
bullpen isn't great, They're starting pitching hasn't been phenomenal. They
get Walker Bueller back tonight, we'll see what happens. But
the fact that they are playing this well, this soon,
and Freddie Freeman really hasn't gotten hot, so it's like,
it's scary how good this team could still potentially be

(07:59):
and there are ready dominated Uh So I love that.

Speaker 7 (08:02):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I low.

Speaker 9 (08:06):
I absolutely loved all aspects of the Tom Brady roast,
and in lieu of hating something this weekend, I'm going
to open this up to the crew and that includes
you today, Hayes. Who is the next athlete or sports
personality that you want to see roasted?

Speaker 8 (08:26):
Me?

Speaker 2 (08:28):
M roasted?

Speaker 9 (08:31):
How about your dad? How about your dad?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:33):
No, no, no no no no no no you go for
his dad? No no, he said, being roasting me. That's
what he means.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Oh, somebody roasting my dad?

Speaker 1 (08:41):
No?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Who would you? What athlete would you want to see roasted?

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Hmmm? Rudy Gobert not going his game because his wife
is supposedly giving birth.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
If I was in his position, I would.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Okay, So, like, listen, this is a real thing. Fifteen
years ago, you were born at seven in the morning.
Are you mad at me at all for going and
working on ESPN that night?

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Nah?

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Because you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean
it depends. Like if it's like the NBA like playoffs,
then I'll.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Never never, never see like skip a game because this
is something you always dream for.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
You know that?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
That would be my thought anymore?

Speaker 9 (09:28):
Ilo, Yeah, No, I just if you guys thought, my
my guests, who would I had loved? Is he roasted Aaron Roger?

Speaker 7 (09:38):
Be good?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
And you know the thing about Aaron Rodgers, and obviously
I know him a little bit, is he actually has
a really good sense of humor. And I he needs
to follow some of the Tom Brady path I think
he has in leaving. But you know it hasn't. And
and before he played and got hurt, he was turning
the tide on public opinion.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
But obviously, see there's been some there's been some setbacks there, and.

Speaker 9 (10:02):
That has Alex Rodriguez actually turned the tide on an opinion?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Would okay, no, no, okay, anybody likes Alex Rodrigo okay.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
But I would like to see him roasted. That'd be great.

Speaker 9 (10:11):
Yeah, Barry Bonds, Oh, Barry Bond's roast, good Lord.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Would be amazing. That's a good one, the amazing one.
All right, let's get to what we hated.

Speaker 9 (10:22):
Oh no, that was in lieu of what I hated.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Oh that was in louve what you hated?

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Okay, uh, but we have to get to the sound
part that says what we hate.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
I'll give you what I hated in a second our
resident hater, heyes, just you understand it is Jason Stewart.
He hates everything and everyone. So there's a long laundry
list of it. Matter of fact, we do a segment
on the pod called You're Annoying? It's basically whoever annoys
Jay stew On a day? And again he has so
many to choose from. What'd you hate for the weekend?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Jase?

Speaker 8 (10:55):
Do you know? I don't know if it's a hate
or I found most fast on it was, did you
guys see? Cheryl Swoops was on the broadcast team for
Kaitlin Clark's first game and their producer made her do
a postgame interview.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
On Twitter.

Speaker 8 (11:13):
This weekend, I posted everything that Cheryl Swoops got wrong
about Caitlin Clark. She did a podcast I think in February,
and Cheryl Swoops said that quote Caitlin is beating up
on a bunch of young kids, and she's twenty five
years old, and Caitlin was actually twenty two. She says.

(11:34):
Clark takes about forty shots a game and she averaged
twenty two point three. Clark's scoring record isn't legitimate, she says,
because she has a fifth year of eligibility due to COVID.

Speaker 7 (11:46):
That's wrong.

Speaker 8 (11:47):
She set the record in four years and left college.
So they have her interviewing Caitlin Clark at the end
of the game, and she just did like a straightforward interview,
as if she hadn't said all these besmirching things. Is
that a word besmirching? And I just thought that Cheryl

(12:07):
should have been forced to tell her she was wrong
about all those things on National TV before she did
the interview.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
That would have been, well, she probably did, my guess
probably did, and there could have just been a simple hey,
just again, I want to apologize for you for some
stuff I said long time ago. And I'm sure Caitlyn
would have been fine, you know. Uh, but yeah, it was.
It was definitely awkward. It was definitely awkward. And but

(12:36):
what happens is it makes and I'm I haven't seen
Cheryl Shoops do interviews before, but it wasn't particularly good either. No,
these postgame questions aren't hard, but I thought Kaylen handled
like a champ. Like a champ, hey's gottlie, give me
something you hated from this weekend? Nothing, okay, that's fine.

(12:59):
I was saying anything you from the weekend.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
Yeah, this was I mean, this video came out before
the weekend, but it's been going more viral. It's been
picking up steam. You actually posted it, Doug. Listen, there
this person makes Pat Bev Pat Bev's ball hucking ANTIC's
look benign.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
Listen.

Speaker 6 (13:19):
There's a couple of things that you should just never
use as a weapon, one of which would be a
bowling ball. You should never throw a bowling ball at somebody.
It weighs anywhere from six to sixteen pounds, and a
typical adult he's eating one that's ten to sixteen pounds.
There's a viral video of a woman throwing a bowling
ball at another woman's head and a what was likely
a very petty brawl in a bowling alley. It hits
the woman in the head. She goes straight to the ground.

(13:41):
Who knows of her condition. Hopefully she's okay. But this
makes me think of when guys take their helmets off
on the football field and swing them at each other.
You should never use a helmet or a bowling ball
as a weapon. That's just off limits to me. That
was discussing behavior from this woman, and yeah, I hate
that because what was she thinking this was probably just

(14:01):
some petty, stupid little.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
So again, you didn't you ever describe it's a bowling
ball and it's all women. I think there's one guy
in the video and a woman has a bowling ball.
She throws the bowling ball at this other woman that
she's arguing with. It hits their friend, who is like
the peacemaker in the middle.

Speaker 7 (14:18):
So he goesn't even the target that was the worse.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Have you seen the video is I'll show I'll show
the video. What do you talk about?

Speaker 3 (14:29):
That's just crazy? Sad?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
People said violent? There's not I know we are a
sad in violent society.

Speaker 7 (14:36):
I know, but that that that's what.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Pat throw basketball at somebody?

Speaker 6 (14:41):
That's that makes that makes Pat BEV look like he's
just you know, shooting spitballs.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
No, I actually I still think Pat bells.

Speaker 7 (14:49):
Because he's but this is horrible.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Also, those are people who paid to see him play.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Yeah, but I listened. Don't do this as a weapon
ever you think ever you'd want your revenge, but you
could end up killing somebody. Gross behavior.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Ja Stu, have you have you ever seen that? Have
you seen the video? Jay? Did I send that?

Speaker 8 (15:11):
I saw you post it, and I'm in that category
you always you always talk about this. I'm in the
category that doesn't even want to see anything once. I'm
like that a lot the description and I said, I'm good,
thank you.

Speaker 6 (15:26):
Just chips away your soul one little bit at a
time when you watch those videos I love.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Have you seen the video?

Speaker 9 (15:31):
Oh, I've seen the video.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Part was she threw one and it hit her friend,
not the intended target. Then she picked up and threw
another one.

Speaker 6 (15:42):
Yeah, yeah, not thinking there is Well, yeah.

Speaker 9 (15:47):
I honestly, I know bowling balls have different weights, but
I think I would be hard pressed to be able
to pick up a bowling ball and throw it overhand. Personally.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
The kids balls are like six to eight pounds. The
usual ball that arms uses between ten and sixteen.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
I mean, I love the lover, not a not a fighter.

Speaker 9 (16:03):
Damn right, damn right.

Speaker 8 (16:07):
Bowling and he.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Honest, honest question, honest question. Do any of you guys
own your own bowling ball?

Speaker 9 (16:12):
No?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
No, just asking there are people.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Okay, when you go bowling, what sized ball do you use?

Speaker 9 (16:21):
I don't go bowling. You've never bowled twice when I
was a kid twice.

Speaker 7 (16:28):
Okay, Well it's fine.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
You know the conversation.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
That's fine, okay, uh Jase do when you go bowling,
because like you know, you have the you have to think, Okay,
can I do I get the smallest one where I
feel like I can control it?

Speaker 2 (16:41):
But your fingers like barely fit in.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
You're worried about your finger popping off, you know with
it when you throw the ball, do you get like
as much as your fingers or do you get a
big ball? Just with the idea in mind of like,
I'm just gonna try and get it as straight as
I can. And the bigger the ball, the more pins
it takes down.

Speaker 8 (16:57):
I get the sixteen pounder, Yeah, and I'm going to
be rolling it as hard as I can and get that.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I don't, by the way, I don't.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
I think you're lying right now, by the way, because
you get tired on hikes that some of my basketball
players go on hikes and they're like, why was he tired?

Speaker 8 (17:11):
I know, but my bicops are better than my Cardio
Bascobas system.

Speaker 9 (17:15):
Well, you guys have gone on hikes together.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
He went on a hike up Half Dome last year birthday.

Speaker 8 (17:22):
Hardest thing I've ever done my wife.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yeah, and then I have I had two like fourteen
fifteen year old players who went on the same hike,
like a couple of weeks later, and they're like, yeah,
went like Jason act like he needed to have oxygen,
Like you need a condition for a year.

Speaker 6 (17:42):
Yeah, I've done that climb too. And you're at a
high elevation.

Speaker 7 (17:45):
It's tough. It's tough man elevation.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Sam, you're from Iowall. There's no doubt you bowled, Yes,
of course. Okay, what size bowling ball do you use?

Speaker 7 (17:56):
Well?

Speaker 6 (17:57):
For me, it can be on the heavier side. It
just to have a nice smooth release with the finger holes.
If it's too crowded in there, you're not going to
get a good You're not gonna get a good throw
in there. So to me, it can be on the
heavier end, but need to be able to grip it right.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Okay, all right, I'll give you something I I hated
over the weekend, and this is this is a very
just to me kind of personally. I can not stand.
I cannot stand the way in which we discuss so

(18:34):
many parts of the drama to the NBA. Right, It's
like we go way over the top on the drama,
and we lose sight of the actual games, and we
spend and we're just as guilty of it here. But
I get I get a little bit much with the
like the Darvin Ham. We've had so many people go
on TV and act like Darvin Ham was done wrong,

(18:55):
Like there hasn't been one one player on the Lakers
say Vernham shouldn't been fired. Right, most people watch the
Lakers don't think Darvnham shouldn't have been fired.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
So there's like a.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Sometimes it's not the right fit, Sometimes the guy's not
good enough, or sometimes the guy's style doesn't match with it,
and in this case that was Darvin Ham. I just
I don't like the fact that we make everything out
to be dramatic. And look, I've been somebody who's held
Lebron James accountable before, but this his style doesn't work
with Lebron plaint blank, anybody else they miss anybody on

(19:32):
the Hate.

Speaker 7 (19:33):
I think we're good. That was a good one.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Well, love and hate for the weekend.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I when my dad
turned seven years old, my late father turned seven years.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Old, he won to have a roast. One to have
a roast. He's like, ah, you guys, I can take it.
You guys should make fun of me. Whatever.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
So r CI is this tennis club. That's Racket Club
of Irvine. I am still a member to this day.
Shout out to r CI. Anyway, he for his birthday,
we rented out the little clubhouse and had a bunch
of his friends and we roasted him. And it was

(20:28):
pretty easy because he was a horrific driver. He was
a very much a one track mind, loved loved, hooped
above all else. And he was a quirky, quirky dude.
But it was it was a lot of fun. There
was one friend who was a bit over the top

(20:48):
in his level of honesty and roasting him, and it
just it was not crazy funny. Nothing he said was
wrong and it wasn't. I mean, all of it's a
little bit mean, but it.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Just it was. It didn't go over great.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
And I remember thinking at that moment, like man, like
I can take it, but man, you can Whooh, You're
gonna be roasted. Now we've had these, You've had these
celebrity roasts a million times over now with Comedy Central.
This was a Netflix one, and Tom Brady's greatest roast
of all time is completed. Here's uh, let's start with

(21:29):
Bill Belichick, because Belichick did have some good lines. He
was made fun of a ton and he was somebody
that most everyone who went and of the roasters, even
that went after the athletes went after Belichick. Here's Belichick's
I thought this was his best line.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Ron.

Speaker 10 (21:47):
I've been watching on Fox NFL Sunday and I'm begging
you please stop doing your job.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Here's here's Bill Belichick, which feels like a clap back
at the Patriots Dynasty documentary.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Seriously, I'm I'm.

Speaker 6 (22:04):
So honored to hear the roast of Tom Brady on Netflix.

Speaker 8 (22:09):
It's not to be confused. It's not to be confused
with the roasta Bill.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Dolichick was part.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Series.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Right here, by the way, is Tom Brady on deflate Gate.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
This was a good one.

Speaker 10 (22:24):
Remember deflate Gate. The NFL spent twenty million dollars and
found that it was more probable than not that I
was generally aware that someone may have deflated my footballs.
You could have just given me the twenty million and
I would just told you I did it.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
It was so good.

Speaker 8 (22:48):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
I have zero sympathy for Aaron Hernandez's I guess is
that the widow just a mon ex fiance. Yeah, but
you think have a there's not like it usually do
widow or widower. But because they weren't married, you're not
a widow or widower.

Speaker 9 (23:07):
Oh maybe they're still engoged, they're still engaged.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
You never know that that that the date could be
made somewhere else. But there were there were a lot
of hanging jokes and uh ring jokes as well. With
Aeron Hernandez. There's there was a bunch those are not
too soon, by the way, there's not hashtag too soon.
Those were good. Big Mike who runs our studio, Uh,

(23:32):
he was there. He attended it. We'll have him on
the podcast. You can hear him talk about it. Quite
an enjoyable experience. Anytime somebody makes fun of Kevin Hart,
I'm all in for it. The roasters going after the
roasters is usually the best part. But there was no
I sent you that one. Jay stew I don't know
if you saw it, but listen, but there was. There

(23:54):
were some mentions of Tom Brady's parenting or or plenty
of mentions of his divorce as well.

Speaker 8 (23:58):
I think that ya, going out his parenting is different
than going after his kids. He's got two kids or
that are the exact same age, and he doesn't get
enough grief for it. So they never touched that part.
But I went in to last night saying, I'm not
gonna watch it because it'll be like a jock roast,
like because a lot of people in sports think they're

(24:19):
funny and they're not funny, and it'll be a lot
of sports humor and that's not typically that funny. But
of all the clips that I kept seeing, I was
shocked one after the other of how raunchy and how
negative and how often mean spirited a lot of these
jokes were. It was like a regular roast. I really

(24:41):
thought it was going to be kind of like a
roast light but it was. It was like really edgy
and vulgar.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
It was. It was pretty incredible.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
Uh, It It really was, which I thought made for
a better watch, and of course it it. You know,
oftentimes I I think a lot of these athletes they want,
you know, they want to make you perceive them post
career as having been angels and not cursing and not

(25:13):
being real dudes. Tom Brady, who has had kind of
a plastic sort of image, felt like a real dude
last night, felt like a real dude. Doug gotlib show
here on Fox Sports Radio. But okay, so tell me
if you think this takeaway when I'm taking too much.
I don't want to take everything from the roast and say,
you know, this is the new history of these guys.

(25:36):
Look at Brady and Belichick and Robert Kraft and Craft
toasting them both and it's all good. All that stuff
was made up in the media. I don't believe that
to be the case. But I do think you can
take some things from it, can you not?

Speaker 9 (25:52):
Absolutely? Yes, I absolutely can.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
Yes, Okay, so tell me something you took from it.

Speaker 9 (25:56):
I love the fact that they were all together in person,
They were able to laugh at themselves. Belichick and Craft
actually took a shot together on stage. Belichick revealed a personality. Absolutely,
I don't think it's unreasonable to extrapolate that that was
a step last night.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
I think so too.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
I mean, they were one, Belichick putting himself in harms way,
Brady putting himself in harms way. Those two guys, I
do think it shows who they are and what their
relationship is, and like, look, there may have been at
some point. I think the relationship is better than people

(26:38):
have perceived it. But I also think that there has
to at some point between the two of them, whether
it was a conversation or out like, hey, look, we're
forever tied at the hip regardless, so we might as
well make nice.

Speaker 9 (26:51):
And also something else to consider is it's not like
this roast took place in Boston. I mean, I know
it was all expense paid in first class or whatever,
but these guys did have to go all the way
across the country, Uh, to the form in Los Angeles.
I didn't even know that you could publicly get tickets
for this thing. Darn it.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I thought, Uh do we think
Dana Dana's joke his entire thing was written Dana White.
Did you guys see Dana White only had sixty seconds that.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Whole that that line about about what.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
My name is, my name is hey, you liberals, my
name is yeah, my name is DANAE.

Speaker 8 (27:32):
That pretty organic to me. That sounded like something that
Dana would definitely.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Say it did. It did?

Speaker 1 (27:39):
I would also tell you that, like, look, I like
I personally know Dana. I like him a lot. I
think he's made himself into a superstar in a unique way.
But I also think, like, did he really fit that
roast anyway?

Speaker 2 (27:55):
But why so?

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Why did they fly him out if they were only
gonna give him sixty seconds?

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I guess to have his face in the audience.

Speaker 8 (28:02):
Yeah, who knows? Who knows what went behind the booking
of that? Because Ben fuck showed up and I think
he was generally regarded the worst contribution of the entire night.

Speaker 9 (28:12):
I didn't even see any of his clips on social media.

Speaker 8 (28:15):
There's one quip I saw, and he's just kind of unhinched.
But he wasn't entertaining or funny or anything.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Yeah, the only thing he looked like was he looked
like he's gotten either a ton of botox or he's
gotten at little snipstep or something, because he does look younger.
But yes, he did not, there was I saw the
entire clip. There was nothing special about it all. But
and now, in fairness, he's not a comedian, but neither

(28:46):
of the football players and the coaches so who wrote?

Speaker 2 (28:50):
Did they write their own jokes? Did he write his
own jokes?

Speaker 9 (28:53):
True?

Speaker 8 (28:53):
Busso said today that even though that they had writers
give him ideas, that most of the material he went
with he came up with on his own, which included
a line about I just did something that Tom Brady
will never do, and that's I just celebrated.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
A wedding anniversary.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
That's that's rough right there. It's rough.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
On the other hand, you do get the sense that
Brady wouldn't let that many people have that much fun
with his divorce unless he's crossed over a bridge and
he's skilled with it.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Right. I don't know that.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Those are some singers, but you look, you can't extrapolate
who said the word extrapolate?

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Was that you Jay Stewer? Is that you? I low?
It's a hell of a word.

Speaker 9 (29:40):
Oh I'm not smart enough to use a word like that.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
It was just you can definitely extrapolate that, Yes, all
those guys, relationship is way better. I do think there's
something to the confidence of a Tom Brady to have
that roast, like you know you're going to walk in
and they don't always kill the roast, the roast tea
as much as each other. But you have to know

(30:07):
what you're getting into there, and it speaks to him
and then the guys that he the people he has
up there are the people he's closest with, right, Like,
you don't invite somebody to a roast if you're not
tight with them. You know, it's like, do you make
the list of people that you invite for you know,

(30:28):
your like my favorite kind of birthday dinners are you know,
you get like your six favorite people to have dinner
with and maybe six, maybe three or four favorite couples
if you're going to do it, if you're with somebody
and you just, hey, I haven't seen you a long time, Like,
let's just go have a great dinner at a really
cool place. Insider around to talk like that to me
is and and on a roast, you're only going to
invite people up there. Granted Netflix controlled some of it,

(30:51):
and we know how how close he is with Edelman,
close he is with Gronk, closer to the Randy Moss
and you have to Belichick, but there was no one
else there, So again you can extrapolate that those other
guys don't reach that level of importance.

Speaker 9 (31:08):
I wonder if Peyton Manning was ever a possibility or
not a possibility. He was there, Oh he did well,
there you go ahead on social media. Okay, yes, it
wasn't that memorable.

Speaker 8 (31:21):
Eli said that he passed up on it. But he
said that he's too busy. He's too he's sick and
tired of burning tomb.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Yes, well, there was that other line somebody had about
the Giants. He's scared of the giants. That's why Kevin
Mart's hosting.

Speaker 9 (31:35):
That was good.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Yeah, that was a fantastic line. Fantastic line.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
You know, guys, we've talked about the pat Riley comments
about Jimmy Butler. I'm not sure we talked about him enough, right, Like, man,
that is crazy z if you're not playing against New
York or playing it's the Celtics, he shouldn't be talking. Wow,
and he was talking directly about Jimmy Butler. Crazy stuff. Uh,

(32:14):
this is this is the sound that everyone in sports
is talking.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
About, you know, for him to say that, you know,
I thought, is that Jimmy trolling or is that Jimmy serious?

Speaker 2 (32:25):
You know, if you're not on the court plane.

Speaker 8 (32:29):
Against Boston or on the court playing against the New
York Knicks, you should keep.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Your mouth shut.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I mean, and remember this is in a Hey, would
Jimmy come back to the heat? Will you not come
back to the heat? And the I think that that
answers your question, you know. And it's also very un
NBA like because even the coaches that are critical of
NBA players, they're not openly critical of NBA players. The

(32:58):
criticism occurs behind closed door. And yes, pat Riley is
old school, but a quite obviously was.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Not happy about it. Let's get to the press, the press.
I love Isaac Lowin Kron Let's repress to day my.

Speaker 9 (33:16):
Friend, Okay, Doug. We begin with an interesting tidbit from
the National Football League regarding Kirk cousins departure from Minnesota.
A'll give it to me, Albert Breer reporting today, quote,
the Vikings were very upfront with Cousins about the possibility that,
even in the case he stayed, they'd take a quarterback
of the future high in the draft. Cousins appreciated how

(33:39):
open the Vikings were about their draft strategy, even if
it meant him leaving unquote turned out to be a
quite ironic tidbit.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Yes, especially because then Atlanta turned around and drafted their
quarterback of the future.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
You know, Uh, that's amazing, It's amazing.

Speaker 8 (33:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Also, it's also fair to say that part of this
is that, you know, the the NFL's opposite of the NBA.
The NBA you have the draft, then you have free agency.
In the NFL, you have free agency, then you have
the draft. So at that point in time, it would
have been fair to say, hey, they weren't maybe that
into Michael Pennix. The problem is, you wouldn't have gone
to the links you went to to go and evaluate

(34:21):
Pennix if you weren't into them to begin with.

Speaker 9 (34:24):
M hm, very good point.

Speaker 10 (34:25):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (34:25):
The athletic in the NBA reporting that there is mutual
interest between the Orlando Magic and impending unrestricted free agent
to be Clay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
The problem with reports like this are, Okay, would Orlando
want Klay Thompson to play, you know, alongside Paula Boncaro,
of course, But what's the price? You know, Klay Thompson,
do you want to play for the Orlando Magic?

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Sure? Because Clay's like, well they're interested.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
They must be interested at like a Max deal, right,
They're like, well, we'd love to have him, would you
like that?

Speaker 2 (35:02):
Maxfield? The hell no.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
So there's there's a lot of steps to get to
and I still think Clay can play, but it has
to be at a role where he's the fourth or
fifth best player. I don't think it has to be
off the bench just yet. There has to be a
reasonable evaluation of where.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
He is now.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
He can no longer be the second best player. You
can't count on him for twenty a night to win
an NBA championship. But I do think he can be
in the starting lineup because he still does defend and
obviously can really stretch the floor well.

Speaker 9 (35:33):
Speaking of the price, the Miami Grand Prix Auto race
took place over the weekend, and among the most notable
attributes was the prices of the concession menu in the
race's VIP Hard Rock Club. Okay, the chilled prawn platter

(35:55):
two hundred and ninety dollars, the fruit refresher platter fruit
one hundred and ninety dollars, the carne asada nacho platter
one hundred and eighty dollars, and you could add one
ounce of caviar to any item for a mere four
hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Caviars not the terrible buy. The nachos for one hundred
dollars is a terrible buy.

Speaker 9 (36:20):
I couldn't believe it. And a fruit refresher platter for
one hundred and ninety dollars.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
I'm honestly, I'm that guy that if I go to
event like that and there's like a whole platter of fruit,
like I gravitate towards that and like, man, I'm gonna
take my drink, my calories.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
I'll just eat the fruit, all right.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
But I'm not I'm not paying I'm not paying a
hundred forty bucks for a platter.

Speaker 8 (36:40):
There's cocaine sprinkled on that fruit.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
That's that is Miami.

Speaker 9 (36:44):
That's the best lighter, refresher, that's the best lighter.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
I feel refreshed.

Speaker 9 (36:52):
Jason Stewart for the win. We have a new title sponsor.
During the college bowl season, the bowl, formerly known as
the eras Zona Bowl, will now be known as the
Snoop Dog Arizona Bull. Could the Gottlieb Bowl be far behind?

Speaker 2 (37:09):
There's a Snoop dogg Bull.

Speaker 5 (37:10):
There is now baby really.

Speaker 9 (37:13):
Rolling down the field with my.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
Eye with no drug testing in the Snoop.

Speaker 9 (37:18):
Doggle with my mind on my nil and nil.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Yeah in my mind. That's that's an That's a pretty
good line. I'm not sure it's as good as Jason
Sewart sign.

Speaker 9 (37:30):
Okay, And finally, more of an item, but less of
an item, but more of a tidbit you were talking about,
pat Riley, Doug You might know this, but there was
a nineteen eighty eight movie starring Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfiffer
and Kurt Russell called Tequila Sunrise. Sure that the role
that eventually went to Kurt Russell in that movie was
at first offered to and turned down by pat Riley.

(37:55):
The producer said his look was right for the film
because he was arrogantly confident but not offensive. It's very
tough to do that. And that's the press bag it
out there and pressed.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
That was the press to NBA games tonight. Doesn't look
like Rudy Gobert is gonna play. We talked about that.
If you missed it, check it out in the podcast
as well, and we'll see if the ant Man can
once again bring the Timberwolves to a gigantic win. Oh yeah,
and then we have the New York Knicks in a
series tonight, so we'll recap it all. Plus, you got

(38:27):
the podcast download or of a download podcast, and I
got my Picks of the Day. It includes both of
these games. You may be surprised with my pick in
the Indian New York game. This Doug Gotlieb Show
