Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, listen, this is the Doug Gottlie Show Years
in the Bonus with Doug Gottley.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Show, The Bonus and Fox Sports Radio, the iHeartRadio app. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome,
Welcome in. Just like we all thought, right, just like
we all thought. I mean, we all thought that the
(00:34):
Minnesota Timberwolves would take on the Dallas Mavericks and the
Boston Celtics would take on the Indiana Pacers. And we've
had this before with the Pacers, where not the Pacers themselves,
but you know the Hawks a couple of years ago.
I mean, you have one off, especially in the Eastern Conference,
teams get to the conference finals, and the Pacers are
a good story and they do have the chance to
(00:55):
compete in this series. But let's be honest. If the
Knicks we're healthy, this would be mood point and they
would be moving on. As for Dallas, I mean, they
survived Oklahoma City. They were down in the second half
and Kyrie of all people, gives a passionate speech and
they find a way to just figure it out. As
they still had the benefit of losing this game in
(01:16):
one other game before they rereade Game seven with their
backs against the wall. It's just kind of interesting that
we all say we want a diversity of teams, that
we want teams that haven't been there before. We're tired
of you talking about the same teams over and over again,
Like how many times have have have you heard complaints
(01:39):
or at least we heard complaints of why do you
talk about the same teams? Well, those are the popular
teams of the popular teams, not just because the big markets,
but mostly because they've.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Won and now we have the chance to talk about
a new champion.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think it's kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I think it's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
And for the Celtics, like, you're never going to get
a great opportunity in this if the Celtics closed this
thing out. It's just not a championship roster, very very simple.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
You know, it.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Doesn't really matter who the fourth team is in the
Champions Classic. It doesn't really matter what we do in
the regular season or in the preseason. It doesn't really
matter even what you do when they're in the a
CC tournament, they have the chance to do something. Say,
acc turn, why I say that it doesn't really matter
(02:28):
what you do in the regular season. It just matters
that you win. Like the Golden State Warriors. They won
a title their first time, and they had every team
they played was missing a point guard.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Have you heard anybody talk about that?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
No, the Toronto Raptors when they played the Golden State Warriors,
kd barely played comes back Terras's Achille Achilles tendon and
the Warriors still had a shot until Klay Thompson got hurt.
So you have, you know, you have all kinds of injuries,
all kinds of struggles, and if you get there and
(03:03):
you win, everybody gets paid, and maybe you get paid
and part of the players get paid as well. But
the difference to it is here that you look or
you if the Celtics can close this deal out, and
they should be, without any question, the favorite they close
(03:24):
this thing out, they'll always be a there. You're the
Toronto Raptors, you're the Golden State Warriors. The talent that
you played wasn't that great, and maybe you're right, but
all those teams are still champions and you can't take
that away.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
From Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
App let's get to what the Fox said, and now say,
here's Colin Cowherd talking aout the Nuggets and the Tea Wolves.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
We will have the sixth NBA champion in six years now.
I think the NBA has more talent than it's ever had,
especially European talent. A lot of good bigs, but it
spread out throughout the league. What you saw yesterday does
not happen much. A defending champ with the best player
in the world at home of evaporating in the second half,
(04:22):
it just doesn't happen. You got the best player, you
got a good staff, you're defending champs. Most of us
think you have the best team. And they just dried
up Denver multiple times in this series. Just got embarrassed.
The first two games of this series. They were pushed around.
They lost three or four at home. And let's be honest,
(04:42):
yesterday offense third quarter dried up. The t Wolves deserve
the credit. A lot of this is the construct, the
construction of the roster. It's really good two bigs, one
a defender, want to score, a dynamic emerging superstar on the.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, I think this team is well constructed, but it
was also constructed to beat the Denver Nuggets, and the
way in which they were able to do it is
matching that size of the Nuggets across the front line.
As we told you, the Nuggets are six nine, six
ten seven feet across my line, and you have to
(05:23):
be able to match up with that. And I thought
they did a great job with their roster construction. The
big flaw is the roster construction of the Denver Nuggets
where just nothing really off the bench this year. And
I get it, something's got to give when the salaries
get bumped up. But they left themselves in a place
where as good as their starters are.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
The bench just isn't.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
This is Paul Pierce talking about the Nuggets.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
I never thought that the Denver Nuggets, as good as
a home team as they've been over the last few years,
would lose three games, three games in one playoff series
at home.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Let's start right there.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Yeah, and then you have a Game seven where you're
up by at least twenty at some point in the game,
full control, crowd is into it. I'm like, oh, okay,
Denvers just gonna win and blow out fashion. They're up
fifteen at the half, and then after that the offense disappeared,
you know, and you say collapse by Denver, but a
(06:20):
lot of this is what Minnesota did, being that they
were or are the number one defense in the NBA
all year. They have the defensive player of the year,
so that played a factor. When you see Denver Nuggets
come out and score fourteen points in the third quarter, yep,
as hot as Jamal was in the first half. That's
how Cody was from three. He shot one for seven. Now,
(06:42):
the stars showed up to the party. But me, I
say this all the time. You expect your stars to
give you star performances in which they did, you know,
thirty five and thirty four.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I'll take that.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Again, I still think obviously the third quarter and the
energy that Minnesota brought and then their inability to go
to the bench for any sort of offense ultimately does
you it.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
It just does.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Here's Jonas Knox LeVar Arrington talking about the Knicks.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
The Dallas Cowboys of the NBA because they haven't won
a damn thing and a long ass time.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Yet for some reason, they never won, I mean the
last time they won.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
Like the way they were talking yesterday, Josh Hart and
Jalen Brunson were getting their jerseys retired and raised to
the rafters after that game, like they haven't won in
a long ass time. Yeah, and yet for some reason.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
And that winning that you're talking about when pat Rally
was there, they never was able to finish because MJ.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Was a Nick killer. They killed him. Yeah, you know
what I mean. So, I mean, I don't know. I
guess we would. I guess we could look it up.
But when have the Knicks won it all?
Speaker 6 (07:51):
Nineteen seventy three? Dang, yeah, nineteen seventy three. Yeah, who
was on that team? Probably Mike Conley. I'm just stupid.
I have no idea. Maybe Phil Jackson was that the
Phil Jackson Knicks. Maybe I don't know, But nineteen seventy three,
(08:11):
and yet the way that they were celebrated and the
way everybody talked about him, and oh my god, what
a great team and a great story in this It's like, dude, like,
what are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
What exactly are we doing here? Nineteen sixty eight is
the last time they won. I completely disagree, as I
said in the radio show, about anyone anyone questioning why
ESPN is talking about the Knicks. Why the next the
Knicks aren't the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas Cowboys won three Super
(08:46):
Bowls in the nineties. The Knicks haven't won shit in
the nineties. Okay, they did get to the finals. That
was when Jordan wasn't playing. That was the oj Chase.
But in order for the if, I mean, it's really
kind of simple. If you want the NBA's number back, Okay,
get the Lakers back going, get the Celtics back going. Honestly,
get the Bulls back going. Like the things that we
(09:06):
grew up on, Knicks fans are amazing. Okay, yeah, they
can be total douchebags and yell out crazy stuff and whatever.
But the reason so many of the big name coaches
and players have gone to New York with the Knicks
is everyone knows whoever that guy is that conquers that
(09:26):
an unseen monster that is the Knicks in aptitude in
the playoffs is going to be a hero, going to
get a ticker tape parade will probably never work into
their life. So as somebody who's late father was a
Knicks fan and has watched this thing, I get why
there's so much discussion over the Knicks, even if they
(09:47):
haven't won, Like Look, they didn't win that because they
were bad. They want they didn't win that because they
were all banged up. That's what the Fox said.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Say.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb Show.
We he's at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. And now it's your Annoying.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Oh, it's everybody's favorite segment of the Doug Gotlib Show
here on Fox Sports Radio, where we find out who
and what is annoying Jason Stewart. Jason, You've had a
long weekend to stew which means you have a lot,
a lot of anger to get out. Get it all out,
flush it all out, Jasu.
Speaker 8 (10:33):
The SoundBite of the weekend Mike Malone.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
How hard is it just to absorb a loss like
this after going ahead by twenty?
Speaker 9 (10:41):
Next question, Man, the season's over. That's what's hard. Fuck
being up twenty season's over. You don't understand that the
season's over. It's hard, stupid ask questions.
Speaker 8 (10:53):
Now. We had this debate on the radio show, and
to me, it's like, if you're gonna have choked as
a as a word, a vernacular word in the vernacular
of Sports, then this was a choke. Not this series.
I'm saying this particular game, being up twenty third quarter,
(11:13):
having the best player in the world at home and
you don't win the game, I think that's a choke.
So for the reporter to key in on the twenty
point deficit, I think was a smart question. That's not
a bullshit question. I thought Mike Mullan was out of
out of line for a few reasons on this, and
he never addressed being down twenty points and losing it
(11:35):
because he basically said it was a dumb question. So
the press corps took lead from that and never asked
him about it.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Yeah, I think, I mean, I think there's a better
question there to be had. I don't think it was
an inappropriate question. And he's obviously his chili's run hot,
and he did not He came across sounding way way
way way to defend. But you gotta, you know, you
gotta ask yourself, like, okay, it's a legit question. How
(12:07):
should it have been asked? Would it have been better
if he said coach? I mean, why not to start
with the what happened when you're up to you know,
what happened when you're up twenty, and then you kind
of walk them to the The problem is you have
so few questions the chance to fall up. Does it
make it harder to accept knowing you're up twenty? I
(12:27):
actually think it's a valid question, you know. I think
it's a vaid question. And he did not give a
valid answer. But it's also his choice. It's one of
those things to where it was. It was not a
stupid question. Does it make it harder knowing you're up twenty?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
I think so? Doesn't it shouldn't it.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I don't think it was a choke though. I you know,
they were beaten on their own home floor three times
by the minnesot Tembles three times. You beat somebody on
their home floor in the playoffs three times, You're better
than they are, that's the answer.
Speaker 8 (13:00):
Else, something is off about this, and I'm wondering if
you also feel this way. Reggie Miller, on I think
his Instagram, he put out a picture of Jalen Brunson
telling him that the crowd is saying fuck you, Reggie Miller,
and Reggie's caption is when the series changed exclamation point.
(13:24):
Jalen Brunson, You're a baller, been the best player in
these playoffs, but you and your boys could all heal
up together on some beautiful beaches in Cancun. Please enjoy
hashtag Pacers Nick's rivalry lives hashtag God don't like ugly.
I don't know what that means. But there's just something
about TNT's like lead commentator or second lead commentator or whatever,
(13:49):
being this one sided in his coverage. It's just a
strange one there. You kind of expect objectivity from the
national guys. If this was a local commentator, that's it's
totally imploy and makes a lot of sense. There's just
something that strikes me a little wrong about TNT's guy
doing this to the next.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I would agree. On the other hand, I do think
it's on brand for Reggie. Reggie is seen as a
trash talker and this is they did they were yelling at,
so generally I would say, hey, TNT, do you need
to On the other hand, one of the great things
about Turner is they do let their guys be their guys,
(14:29):
let them be themselves, So I kind of like it.
I don't think it had anything to do with the
series changing. I mean, the only reason the Pacers won
the series with Nick Suer's so badly injured, they couldn't
really compete. But considering what you know, chanting, you know,
fuck you, Reggie, and they end up losing the series.
(14:49):
I do think that he's allowed to gloat and talk
a little shit.
Speaker 8 (14:53):
So it's become a trent. I don't know what they're
saying is one time might be a a coincidence, two
times it's the trend. So I don't know. If you
call Bill Marraw late night talk show hosts, I think
you do. Jimmy Kimmel definitely is. So remember on May first,
Jimmy Kimmel had this in his opening, madelap.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
April is behind us.
Speaker 7 (15:19):
Today is the first day of May, and once again
our nation's newscasters were caught flat footed.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
May first. Can you believe it? Yeah? No, easy. I
really can't believe May is here. I can't believe it's
May already. You can't believe it's May first? Already? It
is May first.
Speaker 8 (15:35):
So that was Jimmy Kimmel and his crack producing staff
getting all the examples of these newscasters being shocked that
time has gone so fast that it's May first. Now
that's my bid that I wrote that sure, I've been doing.
I've been tweeting it for at least twelve years every
single month on the first of the month, and know
and Jimmy did not give me credit. So Bill Maher,
(15:57):
as I'm watching the show on Friday night, which I
typically do, he started off his big editorial this way and.
Speaker 7 (16:04):
Finally new all someone, maybe AI has to figure out
a way to slow down time, because what everyone has
been saying to me lately is I can't believe it's May.
Oh Americans, we do nothing but bitch about everything under
the sun. But damn it, life goes by too fast.
It's Memorial Day in a week. Crazy, I might as
(16:24):
well start my Christmas shopping.
Speaker 8 (16:28):
So again, I watched the entire show, and then I
looked at the credits and I didn't see any credit
to my joke. So Jimmy Kimmel and Bill Maher both
used my joke this month, and neither gave me credit.
At the very least, it's annoying. I'm flattered that they're
using my material. I just I need a little bit
of credit.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Fair enough, with exception the fact that it's kind of
a common joke and I actually think they pull it
off pretty well.
Speaker 8 (16:57):
So both executed very well. That they both executed my
joke very well. And the only reason it's become common
is because I've been doing it for so.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Long, right, right, right, right? What else?
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Who else annoying?
Speaker 8 (17:12):
No, that's it late night talk show hosts that don't
give me credit for my joke, Reggie Miller for stepping
outside his I think his boundaries. And then Mike Malone
saying something is a stupid question that seemed to be
a very well within the balance question.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
I think the Mike Malone thing, you know, because because
Mike Malone last year bitched and complained about everyone focusing
on Lebron when they when they swept the Lakers, and
now when people are focusing on you after you lost,
you can't even answer a legit question. Mike Malone, don't.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Know, why are we doing this? Because we can?
Speaker 8 (18:00):
So the ant Man and Cat were they were kind
of yucking it up last night in the press conference,
you know, they they just started talking ship and they
became a musty TV. So here's a little bit of
an example of it. And these were on live microphones
over the Earth, and.
Speaker 10 (18:20):
Usually in NBA history says you have to lose and
lose big before you win. What is it about this
team that says we lost last year. Yeah, that's different.
You have to lose at a bigger stage, usually teams.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
It's the playoffs. We lost last year, we lost the
last two years. God damn that much more.
Speaker 8 (18:37):
We got to lose.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
How much you want us to lose? Lose it for
twenty years? I mean, that's just the truth.
Speaker 11 (18:44):
God damn for me being here nine years, I've seen
everything and seen it all and and.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Just damn fuck right.
Speaker 11 (18:54):
But this year to being here and this year, these guys,
this team, after all all that, it's just it's super special.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
So good. I mean, how good was that? So stinkin good?
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Why could we play it for you?
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I mean, this is a podcast. We can say and
play just about anything we want. That's the real shit,
because we can. That's it for the end the Modus podcast.
